Buck arrived at the restaurant just a little before 7:00pm. Now that he was there, his nerves started to ger the best of him. He wanted to have a drink beforehand to help calm him down. He needed a minute alone with his thoughts.
As he was mentally going through what he was going to say, Tommy entered the restaurant and approached the table. Buck saw him, smiled at him. Now it was time for Buck to get butterflies.
"Hey, thanks for coming." Buck said as gestured towards the empty chair across from him.
"Thanks for the invite." Tommy said with a smile as he pulled out the chair and sat down. This was one of the rare times since they've met that they were alone together. Normally they were in groups or with Eddie, but Tommy always made the affect to talk to him and give him his undivided attention.
The server came over and placed a drink in front of Tommy and gave Buck a new one.
"I didn't know what you liked so I just got you a beer." Buck told him as the server walked away.
"The beer's great, thanks." Tommy said as he grabbed the beer and took a sip. He placed it back on the table and grabbed the menu to take a look at what they had. "So, what's good here?" He asked.
"What are you into?" Buck told asked him. "I thought pizza would be the safest thing to get."
Tommy looked at him with a small smile. "I'm good with anything, but your right, you can't go wrong with pizza."
After a few minutes of looking over the menu, the server comes over to take their order. She grabs the menus, says thank you and walks away. There is some silence as Buck is working up the nerve to tell Tommy how his feels. He was for sure ready to come forward, but now that he was sitting in front of him, he forgot everything he wanted to day.
"Buck, you look like your brain's going to overheat." Tommy said to break the silence.
"Umm." Buck said while trying not to fidget with the label on his beer. "There was a reason why I asked you if you were free tonight."
"Ok. You can tell me anything. Whatever it is, you know I'll be here for you." Tommy said hoping that it wasn't going to be anything serious.
"This is about you." Buck blurted out without thinking about. "Well, it's about you and me."
"Is this about what I told you last week?"
The last time that they hung out, Tommy admitted that he felt that there was something going between them, but Buck wasn't ready to admit that he felt the same way. He felt it was too soon. Things had been awkward between them since and he felt bad for not responding, but Tommy knew Buck needed space to figure things out.
"Yeah. I've had some time to think about you and what you said, and I feel like that what you said is something that we both can't deny. " Now that Buck was talking, he couldn't stop. He needed to get it all out. "There is something between us."
Tommy smiled at him. "What do you think is going on between us?" He knew the answer, but he wanted Buck to say it.
"I believe that we are more the friends." Buck said. "I didn't think that these feelings I had for you was something I would ever experience."
"What changed your mind?"
"I've always went into something at full speed without thinking about what happens if it doesn't work out. I was scared that if I admitted my feelings towards you were real, I would lead with my heart and rush into something only for it to not end in the way I hoped it would." Buck was being honest with Tommy. He wanted him to understand that he does things without thinking and he wanted to make sure that this was real.
"I understand that this can be a difficult thing to face and admitting your feelings and coming to terms with it is hard on anyone." Tommy told him. "I tend to do the same thing, but I know what I want, and I go for it."
Buck was starting to feel relieved not just about being honest, but for how Tommy was handling it. "This is all new for me, but I do know that this is something that I want."
"Well, if you are willing to be open to new experiences, I'll be honored to be the one you do them with." Tommy told him with a smile.
"Just be patient with me." Buck said.
"I promise to take this one step at a time."
Buck was worried for nothing. This went better then he thought. He was more than happy. He could finally be true to who he is.
