Xander had always been a touchy feely kind of guy. It was probably because he didn't get that kind of affection from his parents. All through school whenever Xander saw a friend he would rush up to them and hug them. He would play with Willow's hair and then Buffy's when she moved to town. Losing Jesse had been hard because he had no problem with Xander always jumping on him. The girls got sick of it and when Willow told him that she hadn't really enjoyed all the touching for years but didn't want to hurt his feelings it didn't only hurt Xander's feelings but it made him feel like a bad a friend for not realizing.
When he finally started dating Xander thought things would be different. It was to an extent. Cordelia only liked touching when they were making out besides that she had a no touching rule. And then there was Anya. Xander had been so sure he had hit the jackpot with her. With her addiction to sex you'd think she that she would like to cuddle at least. But nope it was wham bam thank you Xan just like Faith only more frequently. He finally had to end that relationship because he wanted more than just sex.
It wasn't until Spike got transferred into Xander's guardianship that he had found someone who enjoyed Xander's touches. It's not like Spike moved in and the very next day Xander had the urge to stroke his hair or give him a hug that would be crazy. It was three weeks later when Xander came home early from the Double Meat Palace to find Spike in the middle of staking himself. Everything moved in slow motion as Xander leapt over the couch and knocked Spike to the ground, both of their weight breaking the coffee table.
Instead of being mad at Xander for foiling his plans Spike begged him to just end it all. It broke Xander's heart to see one of the biggest big bad's they had ever dealt with wishing for death. He rolled off of Spike but rather than getting up Xander pulled Spike into a tight embrace. Spike had been thrown from the reaction and originally fought the hug. But when Xander wouldn't let go and then started to pet his hair, Spike relax and accepted the comfort.
After that whenever Xander walked by Spike he'd play with his hair or a hug and Spike loved it. If he didn't Xander would have known instantly.
Six months later they started dating and Spike realized how much he had been missing out. Now there were cuddles and hand holding (something Spike had not done in all his years as a vampire). Basically if Xander was near Spike some part of his body was touching Spike's.
Xander was already at the Magic Box helping Giles with shelving when Spike walked in. He didn't have a chance to say a word before Xander was out from the back and making his way towards Spike. He pulled Spike into a hug before kissing him. "Hey."
There was not a single time that when Spike walked into a building Xander was in that he did not drop everything he was doing to give Spike a kiss. Conversations, dancing, playing pool didn't matter. "Hello, pet."
Xander rested his chin on Spike's shoulder, not ready to lose contact. His hands running up and down Spike's back in a comforting manner. "How'd you sleep?"
His poor boy was in need in of a little extra touching. This would happen if Xander was feeling stressed which living in Sunnydale that was basically a perpetual state. If Spike had to guess Giles was driving him crazy. Spike started stroking Xander's hair. "It was okay but I always sleep better when your there."
Xander loved when Spike said that. It made him feel special. With a sigh he pulled back. "I should finish talking to Giles. There's a blood pack in the fridge for you." Xander than kissed Spike on the nose before disappearing into the back.
Once Buffy heard Xander talking to Giles she turned to look at Spike. "You're really okay with that?"
"With what, slayer?" Spike asked honestly confused. Sure he wasn't a huge fan of Giles's but Xander liked him enough for the both of them.
"You know with the constant..." Willow started wiggling her fingers around as if that explained anything.
"Do you speak... whatever that is?" Spike asked Buffy.
Willow huffed in annoyance. "The constant touching. Like all the time."
Spike was still confused. "Why would I?"
"Because it's A LOT!" Buffy explained. Don't get her wrong she loves hugs as much as the next person but it was too much for her.
"I love it. Drusilla wasn't one for showing affection that didn't involve broken bones and blood." He ignored the disgusted and pitiful looks from them. "Xander's... comfort." It was the only way Spike knew how to describe him. "Even when he's sleeping a part of him is always touching me. I think it would actually kill me if one day he just stopped."
Simultaneously Buffy and Willow awed at the same time much to Spike's distaste. "This is why I don't bloody share with you lot. Always got to go and make things weird."
"What do they make weird?" Xander asked coming out with Giles. He was looking a lot less stressed so whatever it was Giles had done it had been resolved.
Spike opened his arms when Xander kept walking towards him. Xander was a magnet while Spike was metal. "Nothing, pet." Once Xander was in his arms he shot a look at both Buffy and Willow promising that if they ever told Xander, he would find a way to kill them even if it meant hiring someone to do it for him.
Not taking him seriously Buffy whispered in Willow's ear, "he's a teddy bear."
Willow giggled and Spike snarled.
