"The First Order will run out of Stormtroopers at this rate," chuckled Maz, a petite orange-skinned alien. We accepted our fake identity cards from her with overflowing gratitude.

Our journey to Takodana had not been easy. Vegas' pilot friend ferried us to the Titan, a nearby First Order supply cruiser. He returned to Finalizer, vowing to bring others to freedom as well. There, we hid in an empty fuel container waiting to be restocked at the next port of call. Once they were dropped off at a fueling station on Takodana, we escaped into the night. The local villagers pointed us toward Maz's cantina, which happened to be a bastion of hatred for the First Order.

"Be careful," she also warned, pointing to holoscreens that flashed images of a white-and-orange droid. "They have their eyes peeled."

I pulled my hood lower as I followed Vegas through the crowded cantina. I was not accustomed to such a grimy and boisterous environment, but he radiated confidence. We stood in line at a busy dealership counter, waiting our turn to be scammed by a smooth-talking salesman. Whether or not I had enough credits in my account to buy a ship remained to be seen.

"This crazy trip is almost over," he sighed.

I gave him a tired smile. "I haven't even thought that far ahead."

"I'm thinking Tatooine," he said, giving me a cocky wink. "Moisture farming."

I laughed as I pictured him standing in the desert wearing tattered clothing. "Sounds boring."

He shrugged. "Honestly, I'm ready for 'boring.'"

The meandering line seemed to last forever. When Vegas got into a conversation about ship manufacturers with a friendly human, I pulled out my datapad and brought it to life. The last screen I had used on Finalizer was still open. It was the note I had left on a datacube.

When I had sat down to write it, all my fear and anger had melted away. I had thought back on the last few months, and only the best moments had come to mind. His gentle moments. The moments that enthralled me. The moments that made me fall in love with him.

I read the note one last time before I deleted it forever.

"In spite of everything, I have never felt so attuned with another soul in my life. I fear that I will search the Galaxy for your likeness and never find it. I will never forget you. I'm sorry.—L"
