The third time the "glitch" happened, it was a lot less painful. It kinda felt like Adora had been electrocuted by a plug or something. She'd done it before, numerous times, in trying to fix some household appliances that Catra, or Violet for that matter, had broken in a temper. Despite Violet not being biologically related to Catra, she sure as hell had her temper and stubbornness. The pregnancy test still sat in the cupboard, unused and unopened. Truthfully, Adora had forgotten about it since the glitch incident. After the second, Catra had forced her to go to Mystacor to try and work out what the fuck was going on.
And for the first time in her life, Adora did so willingly.
After days and days of tests, it was decided that her body simply had too much magic and would get out of control sometimes. "But how can I stop glitching?" She asked. Castaspella hummed. "You could donate some of your magic to the other princesses runestones… though that is a lengthy process, and isn't exactly the most painless of options," Adora wrinkled her nose slightly. "The glitches aren't exactly painless either, Castaspella," She said. The head sorceress hummed lightly. "Even so. There's a reason it's not done unless crucial, Adora," She said. "Next to that, however, I would recommend keeping your emotions under control for the time being," Adora furrowed her brows. "But I'm pretty good at that already," She gnawed on her lip softly. "She-Ra's already tied to my emotions,"
Castaspella hummed again. "To be fair, magic of this proportion, whilst strong and wild, is currently being held by She-Ra. Only when you really lose control does the gate open and the magic overcharges your body, causing the glitches," She paused. "The magic in She-Ra alone is enough to kill a mortal. Never mind every other ounce of magic on top. That is why you glitch. If you die, She-Ra dies," Adora's heart did something funny, and she didn't like it. "There is no physical manifestation of the sword anymore. The soul of She-Ra cannot be placed into the Sword of Protection anymore. So you die, she dies. And she is an entity unto herself, and will do whatever she can to survive. Therefore, by keeping her host alive," Castaspella flicked her wrist and began scanning a book. "But what about when I die anyway? Of old age?" Adora asked. Castaspella looked up briefly. "Oh, chances are the soul will pass down to one of your magically enhanced daughters. I would say Violet at the moment, unless you have another biological daughter,"
Adora began to shake her head. "Not happening," Castaspella chuckled lightly. "Oh, Adora. Do you really think she's magic free? Come on, don't be a fool," Adora sputtered. "Well, her other mom, Rey, was a mage!" Castaspella shrugged. "Even so. Her power is greater than that of a five year old demi-mage, Adora. She has some of She-Ra's magic," Adora sighed heavily, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Look, Catra and I are trying to have a baby," She began. "Seeing as I'm gonna be the one to carry them and pop 'em out, I'll need the stupid extra magic gone," She chuckled hysterically. "You can't get more emotional than in labour! Believe me, I know!" Castaspella watched with cautious eyes. "So, I don't care how much it hurts, we need to arrange some kind of runestone magic donation thing,"
Adora rubbed her arms. "I've already made her wait 'till Vi was at school. It's not fair to make her wait longer," Castaspella hummed softly, reaching out to take Adora's hand within her own. "If it is what you want, I will arrange the ceremony," Adora nodded slowly. "Thank you," She said. Castaspella pulled back with a soft smile. "You know, even if you fall pregnant before the ceremony, we can absolutely keep the magic in check. You would just have to move here temporarily, until the baby was born," In her eyes hid something Adora couldn't quite place her finger on. "But I will warn you now, the ceremony will take at least three months to set up, possibly even five. We have to wait for the moon alignment, and that's only four times a year," Adora slumped. "I will let you know as soon as we are ready for the ceremony. Just try not to be too emotional before then,"
Easier said than done… Adora thought to herself in the bathroom, staring at the damned positive pregnancy test. She should be happy, and inside she was happy. But she had to be careful. Maybe Castaspella knew she was pregnant. Adora groaned as she rubbed her face harshly, dropping the test into the bin and reaching for another one from under the cabinet. Sometimes you could get a false positive, right? She took the second test, and used their only expensive third one as well.
As she paced in the bathroom, Adora reached for a fourth test, dipping it into the sample tube she'd peed in. It was rare, but she might've gotten a second fall positive. Four? No. If she had four positives, then she was one hundred percent pregnant.
The more she thought on it, the worse she felt. She should be over the moon right now. Violet was potentially getting a baby brother or sister, just like Adora had wanted, and just like she'd asked for numerous times. Catra was getting the baby she wanted. Sure, she'd raised Vi since she was two and a half months old, but she'd not seen the newborn stage. Or held a baby, fresh outta the womb and cuddled it until it went to sleep.
Well.
Adora didn't do that either, but the point still stands.
Plus, she didn't really enjoy the pregnancy with Vi, thanks to the war. She was always worried that something would happen, and she'd lose her. Why form an attachment with something that was gonna die? Adora shook her head harshly. Nope. No thoughts like that. After the designated five minutes passed, Adora looked at all four tests.
And each one said yes.
