Honestly the only reason we haven't seen more kinds of kanmusu is because not all of them want to be summoned... That and Phoenix and South Dakota have, at least somewhat, learned their lesson!
12440. South Dakota, whatever just exploded in your lab and unleashed a wave of energy around the base has everyone concerned.
12488. The SCIENCE!girls are to stop baiting various Admirals. We don't need any more nervous breakdowns.
In the realm of the Otherworld or wherever it was that kanmusu of all kinds go until they are needed again sat a group of girls. All of different heights, each with their own distinct personality and matching outfit. But despite their differences they all had something in common. All had dark tropical toned skin and all had bright tropical ocean blue eyes that glowed. Their eyes were the only calm part on them, the rest of them from their hair to their various short revealing skirts, spoke of chaos and destruction. No wonder Phoenix was so keen to get her hands on one. So far they had resisted just as they did now.
"You know," said one, sipping her tea as the sky briefly turned dark as Phoenix and South Dakota attempted another summoning then turned cleared away blue again when the cruiser stopped her efforts. She wore a bright blue skirt and a matching tank top that barely covered her massive breasts leaving her chiseled abs for all to see. She had silver-gray high heels that increased her 5'10" height over the 6 foot mark. Her ears were pierced once on both sides and from the holes dangled music note earrings. Her nails were painted black with a gold music note on each one. Her hair was stormy gray and no effort was made to contain it as it swirled and whipped about in the light breeze. She set her cup down and continued. "You know if this keeps up much more we're gonna have to give them something."
Another girl who's hair was a bit whiter rolled her eyes. Unlike her companion she wore a red sweatshirt underneath a pair of bright yellow coveralls and fisherman's boots. She wore a cross around her neck and her hair was pulled back in a loose ponytail. "Katrina, for once I agree with you. Phoenix in particular needs to be taught that there are some aspects of kanmusu that should never be summoned."
"Indeed Grace." spoke the third of the group, a deceptively young looking women with cute freckles marking her high cheekbones. She had jet black hair that was in a tight bun and wore a pair of jeans with gator leathered cowgirl boots. Her shirt could barely be called that, it was more like a bikini top barely containing her massive assets. A rollex watch and a single gold ring with an opal stone completed the picture. "Phoenix must be taught that while she may tame the fire and the earth, the power of the wind will not be so easily controlled."
"Thank you Irma." Katrina rolled her eyes. "Now the question is, what do we give her."
"Well," Grace sighed. "She is too stubborn and determined to give up for long however I do believe we can discourage her habits at least in the short term. Simply by backwinding her."
What Grace was speaking of was the ability the three posessed. As Phoenix attempted a summoning, a portal would open connecting their world to hers. That portal could be used to send a taste of their power through. A deluge followed by a massive wind blast should be enough to discourage further attempts. However Katrina was not hopeful. This was the same shipgirl who climbed to the summit of Anak Krakatau and successfully summoned her after triggering a massive eruption and subsquent tsunami. Anak's loud curses had been heard all the way through the portal.
"And if you're right. If our warning shot goes unheeded then what do we do?" She asked.
Grace smirked. "Elementary my dear Kat." She purred and Katrina glared at being called that. "We simply send you through the portal and unleash your fury on her!"
"Why me though?" Katrina groaned. It's not like she wanted to be famous, or infamous depending on which way one looked at it.
"Well I for one approve of this plan."
"SHUT THE FUCK UP IRMA!"
...
Phoenix cackled to herself, wiping away the strands of her now soaking wet hair. In fact everything around her was soaked as well. South Dakota looked just as bewildered. When she began the summoning she did not expect the pool to crackle with electricity or swirl and churn until it spilled over and then to top it all off a deluge of rain that would make India's monsoons look tame followed by a powerful gust of wind that blew her around the lab like a lab doll. And of course her equipment did not like all this and promptly exploded unleashing a wave of energy across the base! That wave also caused something to change on Phoenix, giving her a new look. A new upgrade as much as she had resisted getting one despite her Ki Nai. And now she had gotten it in an instant. South Dakota stared at Phoenix, noting the look in her eyes and shook her head promptly. "I'm out!" She declared and left, leaving the maniac cruiser on her own.
As quickly as it came the energy wave subsided and the lab was back to normal. But Phoenix had the curiosity and excitement of a scientist at the forefront of her mind now. If a simple wave of energy could upgrade a shipgirl then there would be no need for long processes in the docks. No more waste of resources. She set to work!
Fast-forwarding a few months and our favorite cruiser was back at it again. She had unsuccessfully attempted to recreate the wave of energy several times. The piece that was missing, a summoning. So she repaired her summoning chamber and tried again hoping she could get the same response she did last time. Boy was she in for a surprise! The ominous thunderclouds that formed on the ceiling of her indoor lab were definitely new. Oh this was bad, this was very bad... She stifled a gulp of fear and braced herself as the center of the chamber frothed and broiled as a shape began to come to the surface...
Admiral Briggs for once was not witnessing insanity at the latest Admirals meeting which consisted of fellow Admirals Goto, Holloway, Cunningham, and Hartmann. Richardson was unable to attend due to 'pressingly urgent matters of the Fitzgerald and Iku' variety. With a side of Bluenose. Briggs did not envy the man, not one bit! At least his shipgirls had been quiet thus far. He hadn't even heard a word out of Phoenix in almost 3 weeks which he was pretty sure was a record for the cruiser. Even SoDac had little to say on her partner.
Said cruiser was on her way up to the Admiral's office dragging another girl on a leash and chain behind her. The leash and chain were made of ice cold steel which for some reason seemed to contain the other girl's volatile powers. After her initial summoning Phoenix had been torn between screaming in terror or giggling with all the delight of a mad scientist! Katrina didn't fight her. She simply followed Phoenix at the end of her leash quietly. They reached the top of the stairs and the marine guarding the door knew better than to stop her. He stood aside allowing Phoenix to barge into the Admiral's confrence room.
"BEHOLD!" She squealed excitedly. Her entrance garnered various reactions around the table. Briggs twitched like he was about ready to either run away or strangle his scientist. Goto looked forlornly up at the vents, just hoping his girlfriend would come down and help him. Holloway reached for his tea and poured the contents of his flask into it before downing the concoction in one gulp. Hartman's hand reached for his ceremonial dirk. And Cunningham just buried his head into the table, resigned to his fate.
Phoenix gave the chain a tug and pulled her new summons into the room. The door slammed shut behind her. Katrina looked at the gathered admirals, her gaze was not kind and her grin bore much of Phoenix's own maniac glee. "If I may make a simple request Admiral?" She asked.
Briggs sighed. "Name it." He said.
"That Phoenix, refrain from summoning any more of my kind." She said. "I only answered her call so she would shut up. My sisters are getting really tired of having to deal with her attempts."
"Noted." Briggs managed. "Um..." He wanted to ask but refrained.
Katrina grinned and did a little twirl, dislodging the chain around her neck. "Name's Katrina." She turned to Phoenix who was holding the end of the chain and staring at it in shock. "Temperature, not type sweetheart." Katrina purred. "That chain wasn't going to stay cold forever. Now do you agree to my terms?" She loomed over the cruiser, literal stormclouds encircling her with bolts of lighting shooting out of her ears.
Phoenix got down on her knees. "Y-yes Storm Queen."
"You swear it? Swear it to me."
"I swear it. By the gods of kanmusu, of sea, wind, earth, and fire. Oh yes I swear it!"
In an instant, Katrina's stormy appearance changed to bright sunshine. "I'm glad we had this talk!" She chirped. She turned to Admiral Briggs. "I think I'll go and check out New Orleans. City has surely changed since my last visit." and before Briggs could respond to that, Katrina did a little twirl that swung the chain around Phoenix and tied her up and vanished in a swirl of storm clouds that also quickly dissipated.
When Phoenix recovered her senses she saw five admirals glaring angrily down at her. Eyes white and dark aura's coming off of them. And there was only one thing she could say. "Mommy." She squeaked.
The marine outside the door didn't even flinch when he heard the screaming start.
...
Meanwhile in New Orleans another marine, Sergent James Whittaker was enjoying his day off. He was on his way to the nearest bar of course when he noticed a young girl, young women really walking down the sidewalk across the street from him. She was twirling, literally spinning slow and lazily as she went but her track never wavered. He also noticed she was singing.
"The moon went hiding, the stars quit shining, the rain was driving thunder and lighting! You wrecked my whole world when you came and hit me like a hurricane!" And she continued her singing and twirling all the way around the corner.
Whittaker made a note to call the nearby hospital and tell them one of their mental patients had escaped again then he continued on. The bar could not come soon enough.
