Note: Last chapter was a bit of a doozy, wasn't it? If you haven't read it, go ahead and do so as a way of getting caught up. If you have already read it, then you'll be ready for this chapter. This is a no spoiler zone, so none of the events of the previous chapters will be relayed to you if you were unable to read them. If a plot line is accidentally revealed, then it was on pure accident. Sorry about that.

Now that I've said that, it's time for chapter fifteen.

Chapter 15: A Test (Part One)

A day after the recent mission, the weekend had arrived. This meant that Tina, Gene and Louise had a day off from school. However, they weren't free from work, as the weekend also meant that they had to help out at the restaurant. But the kids were happy to do so, thinking that it was a nice break from the occasional mission to Lyoko and the frequent X.A.N.A attacks. Even if the Lyoko Warriors visited the restaurant, they didn't mind. As long as there wasn't a Tower activated on Lyoko, the day would go smoothly.

Behind the grill, Bob got the burgers ready for cooking. He had gotten out the ingredients he needed for the Burger of the Day, so that he could assemble it whenever a customer ordered it. The fry oil was not hot yet, as the fries took less time to cook than everything else. Once Bob had all the beef patties on the grill, he would put the potatoes in the deep fryer, unless Linda would be the one to do so. Either one of them could do it, though it depended on whoever got the potatoes first. Bob almost wanted to let the kids do it, but he chose to have Linda and himself make the fries.

Linda waited behind the register, intent on gathering the money from customers and putting it in the machine. Of course, she would have to give some money to a customer if they pay more than what they owe for their food. Despite her duty, the brunette hoped to converse with the customers, finding it fun to socialize with others. If possible, she wanted to befriend some new people and see if they wanted to hang out. While Teddy wouldn't have liked it, he would have to deal with it. After all, the Belcher family could have more than one friend.

The moment he put the fries in the deep fryer, Bob had Tina come to work the grill. Gene and Louise were in charge of putting menus, napkins and condiments on each table, so that the customers would have enough. If they ran out, then the condiment bottles and napkin dispensers would be refilled as quickly as possible. Linda would have to collect each tip, as not every customer was going to sit at the bar. As the other three worked in the dining area, Bob and Tina continued to work in the kitchen, intent on getting the food ready before anyone came in. Of course, they would have to take orders before serving the food.

Once customers began to pour in, the Belcher family worked to serve them. For each person, a burger, side of fries and drink were sold. As they served every meal they could, the family watched the income grow with the satisfied customers. They continued to sell their food until the evening, when Bob decided to close the restaurant for the night so that his family could have dinner and relax until bed. When night rolled around, the Belchers went to bed, deciding to recharge their batteries for the next day. Tomorrow was a Sunday, so it was still the weekend.

As he lie in bed, Bob couldn't stop thinking about what the spirit of his mother, Lily, had told him. Not only did he have a distant, unknown relative, but it was also one of the Lyoko Warriors. The restauranteur figured that there was something off about them given how well they tutored Tina, Gene and Louise, but he never expected to be related to one of them. Whoever it was, he needed to figure it out. But how could the brunette do that when they were likely busy at Wagstaff, getting stuff together for the week? Even if they were able to leave the school every now and then, that didn't mean coming to the restaurant was their main priority.

Deciding to head to sleep, Bob was intent on finding out which Lyoko Warrior was his relative tomorrow. He would have to call the group over to the Belcher residence, given how strange it would seem to have an urgent meeting with school tutors in the restaurant. While it wouldn't seem like a bad idea to involve Linda and the kids in the meeting, the restauranteur preferred to let it be a surprise. It didn't seem likely that the meeting would take long, but he trusted his family enough to run the restaurant in his absence. Granted, one occasion where he left the kids alone resulted in them going from a failed attempt to run the restaurant to running an illegal underground casino (or at least a kid-friendly one), but that was in the past. Besides, it's not like Linda would let something like that happen again.

On Sunday, Bob had Linda, Tina, Gene and Louise head to the restaurant. He told them that they could run it for the day, on the occasion that they wouldn't do something crazy and/or potentially illegal. Louise was especially told to fulfill her end of the promise, considering her scheming tactics in the past. The nine-year-old reluctantly did so, telling Bob that she would just do her job as directed. With that out of the way, the family split up for the time being, Bob staying in the house while everyone else went to the restaurant. He didn't want to miss work, but he had bigger fish to fry.

After a few minutes, Bob heard a knock on the door. Going down to it, he opened the door and decided to greet his guests. On the other end on the entrance stood the Lyoko Warriors, all of whom looked curious as to why they had been called. Bob understood why they had those expressions, as he hadn't been clear on what he needed them for, but he couldn't tell them over the phone. After all, this was a Belcher family/team thing, so Wagstaff didn't need to be involved. It would be weird for them to join in on a conversation in a situation like this.

"Hey everyone." Bob greeted.

"Hello." Aelita spoke.

"Shouldn't you be working in your restaurant?" Sissi asked.

"I'm letting Linda and the kids run it today." Bob said. "Would you like to come in?"

The Lyoko Warriors entered the Belcher residence, following Bob upstairs to the living room. Once they were in the room, the group took a seat, intent on having their conversation.

"You're probably all wondering why I asked you to come here." Bob spoke.

"Why, yes we are." Jeremy spoke. "There aren't any Towers activated on Lyoko, so there's no X.A.N.A attack today."

"And your kids are doing well in school." Aelita stated.

"I didn't call you guys over because I wanted to know how the kids were doing." Bob said.

"Then what did you want to speak to us for?" Ulrich asked.

"Remember how my mom's spirit told me that one of you is my distant relative?" He said. "Well, I kinda want to know which of you is the relative she mentioned."

"That rules me out." Yumi spoke. "Looks like the rest of them could be your relative, Mr. Belcher."

"Yeah, but who is it exactly?" The restaurateur asked.

"It IS hard to determine." Jeremy said. "On the surface, none of us look like we could be your relatives. If you want my opinion, it's a good idea to do a DNA test to see which of us you're related to."

"And when the tests come back, you'll see the results for yourself!" Odd spoke.

"To do those tests, I need some DNA from each of you." Bob said. "Can each of you give me a hair?"

The Lyoko Warriors (sans Yumi) obliged, using tweezers to take a hair out of their heads. Bob got some reusable bags, so that he could separate each hair and not get them mixed up. With that out of the way, he had the group head back to Wagstaff, so that they could get stuff ready for the week. As they left, the Belcher father got ready to head into town. He was intent on going to a medical geneticist to see if they could determine which of the Lyoko Warriors was related to the Belcher family. If the results came out immediately, then Bob would bring them home to Linda and the kids, so that they can hear the newfound information.

Before leaving the Belcher residence, Bob told the rest of the family that he was going on a ride through town. Getting in the car, he drove to the hospital, so that he could do a DNA test. Once he got there, however, the restauranteur was informed that the machine used for the test wasn't working right, meaning that it would take a while until the results got printed. Bob was disappointed to hear about it, but he gave the geneticist his address so that she could deliver the results. With that out of the way, he went home to Linda and the kids.

Once he had gotten home, Bob saw that Linda, Tina, Gene and Louise were still running the restaurant in his absence. Seeing that they were doing okay, he decided to leave them be. By the time the restaurant closed, the Belcher family had dinner and had a conversation about how the day went. While Bob wanted to discuss what he was up to, he didn't, wanting it to be a surprise. Even as he went to bed, he did not talk about the DNA test or how long it would take for him to get the results. He promised himself that he would be quick enough to get the envelope before anyone else did.

As the week went by, the Belchers resumed their lives as normal. The kids were going to school while Bob and Linda worked the restaurant. Aside from the occasional new customer, the regulars at Bob's Burgers were still Teddy and Mort. Business wasn't all that different, as each usual had been sold to the customers. However, every so often, someone would order a Burger of the Day, with Bob being happy to make it for them. By the end of the day, the family closed shop and got the money from each customer.

There had been no attack from X.A.N.A the entire week, not even something that could've been influenced by him. During the week, the Lyoko Warriors did not call the Belchers, nor did they come to the restaurant to hang out. Granted, they were tutors and they couldn't take a day off to come to the restaurant, but it would have been nice to see them. With no missions on Lyoko, the Belchers felt somewhat empty. They never thought that a simple virtual world would become a part of their life, which made it all the more dull when there was no mission. However, the family understood that not everyday could be an exciting adventure, so they resumed their normal lives.

Bob expected to get a call about the DNA test all throughout the week. On Monday, the phone did not ring, the Belchers not even getting a call from relatives or businesses. Tuesday and Wednesday were the same, though the only call they got was a simple telemarketer. When Thursday rolled around, Gene answered the phone, then handed it to Bob. The call turned out to be from Gayle, who asked if the family was willing to come to a show she had planned next month. Linda agreed to go, though the rest of the family decided to stay home.

On Friday, Bob received a call from the geneticist, who told him that the results from the DNA test would be shipped to the Belcher residence on Saturday. After the call ended, he was happy, knowing that the question that had been on his mind would be answered. The restauranteur wanted to tell Linda and the kids, but he decided to keep it a surprise. He only went down to the restaurant, intent on getting some work done. It was only a few minutes until the restaurant opened, but that didn't mean that he couldn't start cooking. Placing beef patties on the grill and potatoes in the deep fryer, Bob was ready to serve some customers.

By the time the kids came home, Bob and Linda greeted them. The kids were ready to start the weekend, even though it would've meant that they had to work in the restaurant. Of course, that could change if something interesting happened during the weekend. Given the people around town, anything could happen, whether it was exciting or boring. Aside from the lack of X.A.N.A attacks, the week had gone by smoothly. It seemed like there would have to be something to add some spice to what was going on.

The phone rang, causing Bob to answer it. He had already gotten a phone call from the geneticist, so he wondered who else could have been calling him. The restaurant phone did not have caller ID, but the house phone did not have it either. Whoever was calling did not have Bob's cellphone number, so it was clear that they were not on his list of contacts. Curiosity eating away at him, the restauranteur spoke into the phone.

"Hello?" Bob spoke. "Hey, I never thought that you would call the restaurant! What do you mean? Oh, okay. I'll get off of here, so that you can get back to work. Bye!"

Hanging up the phone, Bob was met with the curious gazes of Linda and the kids.

"Who was on the phone, Dad?" Tina asked.

"Was it Dumbledore?" Gene spoke. "I've always wanted to be a wizard."

"Let us in on it, Bobby!" Linda said.

"That was my cousin, Vanessa." Bob spoke. "She's gonna be in town the next two weeks, and she's coming to visit the restaurant tomorrow!"

Note: And that concludes part one. Looks like we're about to meet Bob's unseen cousin, Vanessa. Why is she really in town? Could she be tied to the mystery of which Lyoko Warrior is related to Bob? Is she the mother of one of them? Who is she really and why did she pick a time like this to visit her distant relatives? Will we ever learn which of the Lyoko Warriors is Bob's distant relatives?

Until next time, guys, this is Newcomer24, signing off. Peace!
