Paper cuts in Wonderland; Ava's Take: A Friendship at the Tip of the World

/

As the day droned on, the night in the frosty wastes was picking up into the dusk – hour. When the winds blew and become their coldest. As if this was an archaic world that contained the memory of a previous ice age.

The people of the towns and villages that surrounded this barren realm of snow and simpler days, had gone to bed with the sun. The only to rise at this hour were the owls, the wolves, and the Raven – Winged's remaining overseer.

The clan of the Raven – Winged was an old one. They had lived up in the world of snow and pine for many an era. Their role was to see with an eagle's eye perspective the entirety of the Barrens, and to govern the beings or creatures that existed to protect the home of the old ones' ways.

The many woodland and mystic clans were connected by the fat northern scope. The wolf protectors were at the highest mark. Lady Aneiu was a white wolf that saw to the sacred Aurora never going dark. The Crow clan saw to the dead and those who were to pass onto the next world in peace.

The wolverine were meant to guard the sacred growth before it was left to ice and snow.

The Hare clan watched and waited for intruders. They had a great set of ear to do so.

The Lynx clan was a mysterious breed that was not often witnessed. The intel of the clans.

The raven? She was very important.

She kept a peace between the sacred void and the other realms that these creatures governed.

The wolf and Raven clans were very close, yet Ava Maria, or Anya Wolfsmund at one time, had questions to ask these elder beings…

"I'm sorry, my dear….We cannot explain any further than we are willing to. Your duty is to sign and address each document to the Council of the Small."

A winged and blue bell themed character was speaking to a silver haired princess as her eyes seemed to wander out past the blue - bell being's shoulder.

"Ava? Anya, child! Are you listening to me?"

She blinked into the fae's charming face. "May -Bell….How is your prince these days?"

The Blue haired and eyed fairy looked awkwardly at the princess of the Raven Winged.

"I'm not sure how to tell you how my pumkin -dumplin' is, but I can certainly say that our days have been enjoyable. She grinned and held her soft cheeks in hand as May dreamed of seeing her beloved again.

"I'm happy to know that he's treated you so well…" Smiled Ava. Her love life had been, less than entertaining.

In fact, it had been dangerous.

Chris's soul had been corrupted by Hati still, so he'd stayed to claim Ava for himself by the shadow – wolf's curse.

(New gen arcs. Chris was Ava's friend who'd sworn to Aneiu that he'd protect her in another form upon his passing. The god Fenrir's or Loki's (I get this one mixed up) child Hati, was able to corrupt Chris who'd been appointed a protector to Ava in the Barrens. He'd even captured Ava to force her to join him unwillingly, and Aiden with his team had to rescue her. However, Anya and Lilu were involved (Anya Wolsmund at the time was a dopple created to capture Ava and her team) and Lilu rose up by Ava's dopple's dark nature – as if summoned through her ill will.) Chris was supposedly freed, but he'd not told her about the affliction left behind by Hati's craft. Hati was a wolf that was an eclipse or sun and moon entity in the old Edda. He was akin to Manu, the moon and chased it across the sky every night. He believed Ava was an incarnate of Manu or Freya, but we were yet to imagine this. She's actually a child imbued with the memories and magic of Lady Reia (Freya) of the Raven Winged. So, she could be a modern day Valkyrie. Or, Reia's reincarnation. This is a hard maybe, won't say yet.

So, in a way, love had never been for Ava. As she saw it, she'd be stuck with a sword and shield for all eternity in the snowy place of legend she called a home.

As if her old life meant nothing, she had detached herself from her adoptive family to protect herself. A selfish move, she knew it….But an honest one to her kingdom.

Her studies were of politics, geography, and meta – physics for her magic to exist in harmony with her warrior's pride. She had very few but May Bell and Tellervo the Swedish bear goddess, or Kawrah the crow clan's daughter to speak to. All business, and so her heart grew to yearn for someone she could share her secrets with – just as she had with her childhood crush….

Chris was never coming back, she knew this. If she left those walls to find an answer, then her heart would fail and the council would –

"Ava! Your magic!" May shrieked as the young twenty one year old's emotions had manifested into flurries and ice about their heads.

"You must learn to understand your powers –

"I feel a need to be free of that for now…Please, May – Bell?" Ava's magic was capped with a blink of her silver and lavender eyes. "I'd like to be alone for a while. The day is tiring. I'd like to rest, for a time…"

/

She did, yet not as one could perceive of a child raised by demi – mortal adults on the Earthen Plane of existence. She snuck away and to the wood she fled. Her heart was telling her to seek out a friend, even as a blizzard was ready to rage on across her imperfect paradise.

Ava had the blood of the old ones in her veins. The snow and cold could not harm her as before. Right now, the moon was still there, until clouds covered it as she scrambled to find shelter within an abandoned cave. She waited out the worst, and before long could walk in her snow shoes and lined boots to where her heart was telling her to go.

To the realm of the Aurora.

The Land of the White Wolf clan.

/

She squinted through the bleary world and saw ice wherever she walked. Arctic foxes pranced about after their dinner, and snow owls were on the move this late into the night.

Maybe it was evening, but she had refused to be guided by such things. She wanted to seek those who could clear her mind of such ideas as "friendship." She had a role to play; she was to be the Barrens' sole protector, and Reia's…

Her, successor…

~ I wish to be at the side of one who feels as I do..~ She spoke to the cold wind inside this frigid void of endless frost.

~ I wish to be at peace with my emotions….I do not –

She heard a snarl and looked to her left. A blur of tawny brown was headed towards her! A polar bear on its heels, as the blur looked to be …

Hybrid!?

~ I did not bother you!! Brother ice – bear! Stay away from my tail! Raaa! ~

The creature was running, tan and about a year apart from Ava by the look of it. She was short for her age, as Ava had just taken to Reia's height nearly or would, should her fae heritage allow such a change.

~ I….will aid you! ~ Ava took in a breath and came before the bear with her magic at the ready.

~ Snow – wind…..turn this creature from our path! ~ She watched as a swirling flake – fall came and redirected the bear to run in the other direction. It was dazed and could not see very well, but for a moment, it transformed into a stout character with a belt to its back and a set of dark brows all knotted together.

~ That fish was our catch and you tried to intervene! Spit out the rest…or better yet, go to the White Wolf and tell her of your ways. You are careful of being caught, yet your actions speak –

~ Why do you always act so hungry? ~ The wolf hybrid girl groaned and eyed the burly bear as if she'd fight him or flee. Given the option to do so.

~ Why can you not both share the bounty? ~ Ava asked the bear.

~ It was not a lot of fish. The many were to go to the clan and to my young siblings. I was…supposed to catch enough for our feast tonight –

~ Bears have no such things! You eat and digest. ~ Snorted the wolf.

~ Clan head daughter, here; Small Paw, is taking advantage of what she was given. The Great Spirit is in distress and I find your lack of mindfulness to be very troubling. ~

~ Wait, Small Paw? ~ Ava looked to the girl and saw how feral she really was. ~ Why do you not stay with your family? Aneius and –

~They are tiresome.~ The wolf child was more a teen by how she acted. Even Ava found it to be rather disrespectful.

~Well, you cannot bully the other clans in this world –

The bear sprit huffed. ~She is nothing but an outcast! Her trials will one day run deeper than the mother river can –

~I'm just hungry. You can share. ~ Frowned Small Paw as she sniffed and decided to leave, right away.

Maybe the Deer god could speak to her like an actual equal.

She was not one to allow such joys into her little world. Her father was a hard teacher. Aneiu was a bit detached from being a mother. No, she was a mother to all. As such, Small Paw was already grown.

She'd left the pack to seek a reason to go on. As Ava had come to this world to see out the answer to her troubles.

Little would the two gather, there was a reason that the three were here now. That only fate and the turning wheel would reveal such a magical outcome.

Now, Ava was going to have to sooth the soul of only her own inner loneliness, but another's.
