Profile

Description:

A curious researcher from Sumeru, Esmeralda currently resides in Mondstat, exploring the ruins of Old Mondstat. She has an almost fanatical devotion and unparalleled understanding of the automatons that roam the wilds and had somehow managed to bring one under her control.

Appearance:

Esmeralda uses the teen female body model. She has short orange hair with a straight fringe. She has a pair of fox ears and a tail covered in orange fur. She is heterochromatic, with a green left eye and an orange right eye. Her usual attire consists of an overall green dress that reaches to her knees, lightly armored with silver plating at her chest and hips. She wears a leather strap across her lower chest, which carries her smaller tools. She uses a pair of brown boots.

Esmeralda is accompanied by her automaton Daisy. Daisy is a floating mech of Khaenri'ah design. Originally a Ruin Guard, it had since undergone extensive modifications. It now consists of a floating core, a large and heavy pair of arms, and a secondary pair of small, blade-like arms. It is reminiscent of a Ruin Hunter, albeit much more heavily armored and with a significantly improved elemental core to power its systems.

Outfit: Scholar's Fancy (basic outfit)

Combat

Normal Attack: Ruination

Daisy launches up to 4 consecutive strikes. The first 3 strikes deal Phy DMG and the final strike deals Geo DMG in a line.

Charged Attack:

Drains Stamina over time to have Daisy perform continuous spinning attacks against all nearby opponents, dealing Phy DMG.

Plunging Attack:

Gathering the might of Geo, Esmeralda plunges towards the ground from mid-air, damaging all opponents in her path. Deals AoE Geo DMG upon impact with the ground. Daisy slams down after her, dealing AoE Physical DMG.

Elemental Skill: Missile Flurry

Tap: Daisy launches six missiles that fly at nearby enemies, dealing AoE Geo DMG upon impact.

Hold: Allows the target direction of the missiles to be controlled.

Elemental Burst: Power Surge

Unleash Daisy's core, which hovers above the active character, firing a continuous laser at the nearest enemy, dealing Phy DMG. This attack targets the enemy's weak spot, if possible. Daisy enters an inactive state, granting the active character gains 30% PHY RES, 30% Def, and increased resistance to interruption, but disabling Esmeralda's normal and charged attacks, and weakening her plunging attacks. However, if the active character is knocked back, frozen, or defeated, the core is disabled and cannot attack for 3s.

Combat Talent 1: Target Acquired

The missiles created by Missile Flurry (tap) home in on nearby enemies.

Combat Talent 2: Remnant Energy

Whenever the active character takes damage while Power Surge is active, a Geo shield that lasts 4s is generated with its Hp based on Esmeralda's Def. This can be triggered every 4s.

Passive Talent: Mechanical Insight

When an automation-type enemy is defeated while Esmeralda is in the party, the drop rate of materials is increased. Boss materials are not included.

Constellations

1: Overcharge

While Power Surge is active, all nearby party members gain 15% ATK.

2: Focused Beam

The DMG of Power Surge increases by 5% per second, up to 30%. This bonus is reset when the target is changed.

3: Core Overcharge

Increases the Level of Power Surge by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15.

4: Fire Support

While Power Surge is active, normal and charged attacks by the active character release a missile to the target. This can occur once every 1s.

5: Explosive Payload

Increases the Level of Missile Flurry by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15.

6: Living Companion

When the active character takes lethal damage, the damage is prevented. Daisy deals Phy DMG in a large AoE and grants the character a Geo shield and 50% resistance to all damage for 10s but enters an inactive state for 20s. This can be triggered once every 300s.

Special ascension stat: Crit Rate

Ascension Costs: Mora, Prithiva Topaz, Cor Lapis, Chaos Device, Basalt Pillar

Stories

Character details:

Since she was young, Esmeralda has had an interest in machinery. Her passion and dedication eventually culminated in her greatest accomplishment - the successful reprogramming and subsequent control of a Ruin Guard, as well as eventual improvements.

Generally shy and cordial, Esmeralda is friendly to those that she meets in the wilderness. She does, however, travel alone most of the time, as her search for the relics of the past brings her to unexplored lands and dangerous automatons. The fact that Daisy, the modified Ruin Guard, is always by her side makes it no easier for her to find a traveling partner, for most fear these deadly machines.

As for those who see her guardian as easy money, Esmeralda does not hesitate to teach them a lesson. To the Treasure Hoarders, or any others, who dare attack her, Esmeralda bares her fangs, chasing them away with armored blasts.

Nevertheless, Esmeralda presses on, seeking answers and secrets that may one day allow her to achieve her true goal - the creation of artificial life. Not through alchemy, like Albedo is capable of, but through robotics. One day, she would crack the code, and true artificial intelligence shall be born. Capable of thinking and feeling, with its own desires and choices.

Capable of being her friend.

Character story 1:

It is nearly impossible to bring a Ruin Guard under control. Not only does one need an intricate understanding of the ancient circuitry that they run on, but knowledge of their programming is necessary as well.

Few know how the chaos circuits within these machines function, and fewer still can claim to be able to utilize them. Esmeralda, however, is one of these few. She knows the pathways between connections and can create complex designs like how a chef creates a mouth-watering dish.

All it took was an entire lifetime of non-stop study and research. From the basics of technology to the advanced power sources that Ruin Machines utilize, each piece of knowledge, discovered over weeks, needs to be put together and understood thoroughly in order to manipulate the inner workings of these automatons.

Yes, Esmeralda managed to control a Ruin Guard. But while others sees her ultimate success, they fail to realize the effort it took, or the hundreds of failures that came before.

So, no, she can't teach you or make one for you. Stop asking.

Character story 2:

While people see ancient devices, mysterious and best left alone, this researcher sees the truth behind the machines.

Humanity was never the strongest, the fastest, or the toughest. But what past humans could not do, they created robots to do for them. To toil the land, they created massive robotic beasts of burden. To explore the world, they created arrays of biomimetic machines. To wage war...

The men of the ancient nation of Khaenri'ah unleashed the greatest war machines the world had ever seen.

But with such a powerful force, how did this ancient kingdom fall? How did the mighty automaton armies of old become reduced to mere monsters, wandering aimlessly in the wilds?

Esmeralda's knowledge only gave her more questions. And so she keeps on the trails of the machines, hoping to one day uncover the full truth of things.

Character story 3:

"Hmm, your vision seems to be getting glitchy, so the Chaos Oculus needs to be replaced soon. Or maybe it's the Circuits that have worn out. Well, I'll probably need both eventually. Let's see, the Ruin Guards over there should have some spare Circuits, but Oculi are hard to come by. I guess I need to pay the Adventurer's Guild a visit."

Maintaining a Ruin Machine, in an era where the knowledge of creating and repairing them has been lost to time, is extremely difficult. The only ways to find parts are to scavenge them from any Ruin Guards or Hunters that she encounters, which is unreliable at best, or to commission the Adventurer's Guild for them.

Every so often, Esmeralda visits Katheryne to post a commission for the parts that she needs. However, the automatons are dangerous, and retrieving their parts is nearly impossible for all but the most experienced adventurers. Sometimes, her commissions go unanswered for weeks.

This problem plagues Esmeralda to no end, but until she can craft up these parts herself, she'll have to make do. Someday, she will master the technique of their creation.

Character story 4:

What does it mean to be alive?

The ancient automatons that wander Teyvat are equipped with basic intelligence, capable of limited decision-making. Esmeralda's Ruin Guard, Daisy, is capable of more. Her modifications allow it to recognize voice commands, and automatically react to and carry out orders.

But still, Esmeralda works, seeking to improve this intelligence. Yes, Daisy can block a strike meant for a man, using its heavy armor to shrug off the blow. But it has to be ordered to do so, and in a fast-paced battle, sometimes there simply isn't enough time.

Esmeralda aims for Daisy to be fully autonomous. Capable of identifying and assessing a situation, deciding on a course of action, and carrying out its chosen path, all without external input. Capable of emotion, of making its own choices, of having its own desires.

In the back of her mind, Esmeralda wonders if Daisy would end up rejecting her. She hopes not, but even if it did... that would be its choice.

Character story 5:

Now she knows the truth.

Khaenri'ah, the mighty nation of man, was brought to ruin by the gods. The same ones that now ruled over the sevens nations. The fall of Khaenri'ah had been stricken from history, and deliberately lost to time. The gods choose to hide this slaughter.

Despite all that, it was these very gods who gave her her Vision, who allowed her to make that final breakthrough in placing a Ruin Guard under her command.

Esmeralda had thought that finally succeeding would give her answers. Now she has more than ever before. If the gods had destroyed Khaenri'ah because of their technological progress, why would they give her a Vision to recreate such machines? Was it simply because they felt that a single person could not challenge them, or do they have other plans?

It matters little, in the end. Esmeralda will continue her research until she has perfected her craft. Someday, when machines live and act with their own will, she shall have her answers. And then, if the gods descend to erase them from existence once more, she will rise to the challenge.

Vision:

One day, somewhere in the wilds of Mondstadt, after weeks of searching, Esmeralda came across an undamaged, unpowered Ruin Guard. She immediately disabled its weaponry and began taking advantage of this golden opportunity to try to activate it.

She was just on the verge of a breakthrough when a group of Treasure Hoarders stumbled across her camp. They laughed at their luck and demanded that she hand them her treasure.

To disturb her research at such a critical juncture, after so much hard work... Esmeralda felt the flare of determination as a Vision appeared. She faced the hoarders defiantly, as the Ruin Guard stood up behind her, its eye blazing with elemental energy.

She eventually rebuilt that Ruin Guard and named it Daisy. Like an obedient pet, it follows her, protecting her while she does her research.

As for those Treasure Hoarders, well, best not to ask. Just make sure not to disturb Esmeralda while she's working.

Living automatons:

To the majority of the people in Teyvat, the origin of the strange and powerful automatons that wander the wilderness is a mystery. Which of the seven nations could have possibly been capable of creating such advanced machines? What could have been their purpose?

Esmeralda knew the truth. The fallen nation of Khaenri'ah had constructed these Ruin Guards as mighty war machines, to engage in battles instead of risking human lives.

So why does Esmeralda feel the urge to give life to such a robot, designed to die? Would it not result in an arms race and the deaths of thousands? If you'd ask her, she says that there is no purpose beyond science. If it can be done, she would do it, and whatever consequences arise are irrelevant.

But perhaps there is a reason after all. Wandering the lands, alone, in the name of research must be lonely. Perhaps she just wishes for a companion.

Story Quotes

Hello: Hi, I'm Esmeralda, and - Oh, the Ruin Machine? That's Daisy. Don't worry, she won't bite. Hehe. Promise.

Chat - Daisy: Why is she called that? Well, if you had a giant murder robot, what else would you call it?

When It Rains: Good thing Daisy is waterproof.

When Thunder Strikes: Get to shelter!

When It Snows: Come close to Daisy, she has a heater.

When the Sun Is Out: It's a sunny day. Nice.

Good Morning: Hello. Give me a few minutes to check on Daisy, then we can go.

Good Afternoon: The sun is high, and it's hot out. Come here, Daisy can block the sun for us.

Good Evening: Time for dinner! Having trouble with the fire? Hmm... Maybe a missile could light it up. Kidding, I'm kidding! I know that's dangerous. Although...

Good Night: Well, time to get some sleep. No need to worry about keeping watch; Daisy can be our lookout all night. Sleep well!

About Albedo: The genius alchemist? Our goals are actually very similar - to create life, him from alchemy, and me from machinery. He's got some great ideas, and I've learned quite a bit from him. He's one of the few I can entrust Daisy to.

About Amber: I met her while she was on patrol. She's nice and she even helped me out with evading bandits. I learned quite a lot from her.

About Klee: I like her. She's cute and fun to be with. Not to mention surprisingly good with explosives. You know, she actually managed to improve my missile payload by 12% while maintaining its stability. We did quite a few tests that day. It was glorious. Those poor fish, though...

About Eula: She's with the Knights of Favonious, right? I met her out in the wilds that one time, and somehow she ended up swearing vengeance on me. Will she actually hunt me down, or... well, not?

About Fischl: What was that she called herself? The Prinzessin something something, the creator of universes? I'm not buying any of that, but she sure seems invested in that story. It's interesting, but practically. she's not that powerful.

About Bennett: He's a walking bad luck charm, alright. I'm keeping Daisy far away from him. I'm sure he's a nice person, but I refuse to let a freak accident undo my life's work.

About Rosaria: When I visit cities, I tend to leave Daisy outside, so that I don't spook anyone. That time, I was just returning from Mondstst when I saw her inspecting Daisy. Turns out she was checking on threats near the city. I convinced her that Daisy posed no threat to the citizens, and she let me go, although I'm sure she still keeps an eye on me whenever I'm in town. What? She's a sister of the church? No way.

About Jean: Acting Grandmaster, if I recall correctly. I talked to her once while I was looking for someone. She seems very busy, so I tried to to disturb her too much.

About Ariel: She saves my life once, so I made her a weapon similar to a Ruin Hunter's. I'm still waiting on her feedback so that I can create some proper weapon systems for Daisy.

About Qiqi: When I was passing through Liyue, I saw a child climbing the cliffs, picking what looked like herbs. I was curious, so I talked to her, and it turns out that she's a zombie because of some Adeptus. I didn't think that was possible. The Adepti must be powerful indeed.

About Shenhe: I met her out in the wilds. I'm not entirely sure if she's human or Adeptus. She's skilled in combat, although she seemed kind of awkward at talking to people.

About Hu Tao: The director of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, right? Saw her conducting some kind of funeral once in the woods, in the dead of night. It was odd, but I didn't dare disturb her.

About Esmeralda - Consequence: My goal is to create a fully sentient machine capable of manipulating elemental energy. Hmm? The consequences of making such a powerful machine? Well... I don't know. I'm sure someone else will handle it. I just want to create a true marvel of technology.

About Esmeralda - Purpose: Why am I so dedicated to creating artificial intelligence? Well... science doesn't need a reason. Progress for the sake of knowledge is enough. Although, having a companion would be nice. Hey, don't tell anyone else I said that, ok?

More about Esmeralda - I: I'm from Sumeru, yes. I was originally studying under the Academia, but I left some time ago.

More about Esmeralda - II: People seem scared of Daisy. I mean, I understand why they're sacred, but they don't need to be. That's why I can't bring her with me to any city.

More about Esmeralda - III: While I'm out in the wild doing my research, I occasionally visit nearby towns to restock on food and resources. I'm not very good at hunting.

More about Esmeralda - IV: Ah, Daisy's arm needs maintenance again. It really is a pain sometimes. I've tried to make a self-healing material, but I never quite managed it.

More about Esmeralda - V: I kind of miss the Akasha. It was quite useful for getting the knowledge that I needed. ...What do you mean it's shut down?

About the vision: It's very helpful, actually. Somehow, it helps me figure out how these Ruin machines work. Without it, I'm not sure if I could have repurposed Daisy. What? I mean, sure, it helps with combat, but Daisy can handle most of it without my help anyway.

Hobbies: You mean, apart from picking Ruin Guards apart? Well... I'm not really sure. Hmm. I need a hobby. I've thought about taking up gardening, but I never stay in the same place long enough for anything to grow.

Troubles: Everywhere I go, those stupid Treasure Hoarders keep attacking me and trying to steal Daisy. I mean, seriously, they're everywhere. I can't escape them, and they keep coming no matter how many times I beat them up. It's so annoying!

Favorite food: I like berries. You know, those that grow like, everywhere? Mmm... They're sweet and refreshing. Like me, hehe.

Least favorite food: Pickled food is disgusting. That smell, that texture... ugh. I prefer food fresh, thank you.

Receiving a gift I: Delicious! Ah, a pity I can't pack this for the road.

Receiving a gift II: I don't get much food like this out in the wilds. Thanks.

Receiving a gift III: That's... unique. Maybe Daisy will like it?

Feelings About Ascension - Intro: All components are in working order, and systems are functioning properly. We're ready.

Feelings About Ascension - Building Up: Improved targeting systems and enhanced mobility systems. Smarter and faster.

Feelings About Ascension - Climax: A breakthrough! If I apply these principles to the power core... Ooh, upgrade time!

Feelings About Ascension - Conclusion: The secrets of mechanical life is within my reach! One day, traveler, when Daisy lives and thinks, I'll have to introduce her to you. Or maybe, she can introduce herself. That... would be nice.
