It had been roughly two years since Kudo Shinichi, or rather Shinichi Kudo (in America, anyway) had been invited to such a divine gala. Well, not because the police needed help or someone wanted to use her as a pawn in some sort of way.
This was the first time that she also attended one in Gotham. Well, one that she would remember. She knew that she was brought to some galas as a baby with her parents. Winning awards and having fun were their reasons to be there. Or so it would seem. She did not know, however, that that is where they had met the person that was now her current legal guardian.
She was not thrilled when she realised who it was. But she still had no real clue as to why she was in their care. She had the idea of why they would need someone like her in their care and would take the burden of someone like her on.
So, here she was in Gotham, staring down from the alleged highest building in Gotham and looking down to the ground. She was bored out of her mind and could see that there was nothing to do but gossip and gloat. That was what other people were doing here and they were clamouring to be the centre of all attention. She remembered she was similar to people like this, driven to prove that she was the smartest person in the room. And many times, she had proven this correct by solving the murder and putting the murderer in their place.
But she was not like that anymore and she really did not like the spotlight. In fact, she preferred to be a wallflower and just blend into the crowd.
But being one of the youngest did not in fact make her blend in, and she was starting to regret agreeing to come to this stupid party. She would rather be back at the manor reading a good book right now. The only reason she agreed to go was because she needed some ideas to finish off her Dad's book, which she was almost finished.
The clanging of glasses, people celebrating a building about to be built. a building that would be bigger than the building that she and others were currently standing in.
Leaning over the balcony, she knew that not too far from here in Metropolis, there would be a show for the whole world to see.
She laughed internally just thinking about it.
Kaitou Kid was going to challenge Superman.
The thought of it was hilarious, and she could see the crowd of people from here, all gathering together, and it was the largest crowd she had ever seen. There were millions of people gathering to see what was happening. Many fans of Superman and other fans of Kaitou Kid And most of the fans were fans of both of them and were rooting for both of them.
Kuroba should be locked up right now. But somehow he managed to escape from Juvie and still be there at the same time and steal another jewel.
People were already laughing at the Green Lantern. Kaitou Kid had been taken down by an unknown thief here in America and now, a couple of supeheroes later, Kaitou Kid was well known across the planet. She had to admit the trick he played on Flash was hilarious and had even the hero himself amused.
And then she heard a familiar voice.
A smug, boasting voice that belonged to Teiji Moriya.
Clearly, he had not seen her yet or knew that she was here. She was frustrated and annoyed with this turn of events. Now that she was thinking about it, she realised that she was supposed to go to court and give evidence against him. But she was in a coma, so that was impossible, and the evidence must not have been enough for everyone to find him guilty.
He was centre stage in the crowd of people, circled by them, and all their attention was on him and he was demanding it. soaking in the attention of everything that was herded around him, listening to his every word as if it was gold.
If he saw her or even got a glance at her, she knew that this would draw attention to her and she would have to say something. She knew that she would have to find out what he was doing and what he was up to. She knew there might be something that she may need to do if he was up to something illegitimate or illegal.
And then there was a bit of a surprise in the air.
BANG
