TIMESKIP: 6 MONTHS LATER, FEBRUARY 26, 23XX

LOCATION: MIDORIYA RESIDENCE

"Do you have your pencils and pens? What about your handkerchief? Oh! Did you-"

"Mom!" Izuku cut her off before she could start muttering. He had gotten the habit from her, which is a bit odd in his opinion. His mother was quiet most of the time and they didn't need to speak much to know what the other was trying to say.

He continues, "I made sure I had everything, I even double-checked. I'll be meeting Inasa at the station, so I'll be fine." He willed a bit of his light to the surface, the warmth radiating off him soothing her frayed nerves. He'd figured out that the light he created had a calming effect if he channeled a small amount, which led to the discovery that it burned. Burn meaning absolutely scorched anything he wanted it to and was only warm to things and people, like it was reading his thoughts.

"Izu!" Eri shouted before barreling into his leg, she looked up at him, "You're gonna be awesome". Izuku smiled at the little girl, ruffling her hair slightly.

"Thank you Eri, that means a lot". Eri beamed.

"Ok, just make sure to do your best, I'll be rooting for you Izuku." The boy smiled widely at his mother before toeing on his shoes and letting the strap for his satchel to rest on his shoulder. He turned one last time, waving to his mother and going out the door.

"IZUKU!" Inasa was his usual loud self, maybe if not more than normal. His tall friend decided to opt out of the recommendation exam. When Izuku had asked why, Inasa much of an answer, saying that it was quote-on-quote "not important" and that he'd "rather take the normal exam with his best friend". 'I'm gonna have to push a bit more later, but for now, I need to focus'.

"Hey Inasa, how are you?"

"I'm doing well, thank you for asking. How is your morning so far?" Inasa asked, exuberant nature not faltering in the slightest. Izuku smiled broadly, falling into step with his friend as they made their way to the platform, going through the routine of swiping their passes easily enough.

The familiar feeling of the train rumbling to a stop jostles the teens who were previously conversing animatedly. The call for their stop is heard and the pair rush out the doors and out of the station they arrived in.

The sight of the four skyscraper-size buildings with bridges connected to them in the distance sets off quite the reaction from the two. Inasa shouts his feelings to the wind and Izuku looks as if he was phasing through reality because of how fast he vibrated. But who could blame them, the day they'd been waiting for.

The two calmed themselves before walking towards the school in a slightly tense silence. Other applicants in varying uniforms headed the same way. There were few people Izuku had taken note of was a six-armed boy that was especially tall, nearly reaching Inasa's height. A pink skinned girl with a lighter shade of pink for her hair was chatting with a boy with shark-like teeth and spiky, bright red hair.

Finally getting to the reception desk, Izuku's eyes roved over his application form, they then moved over to Inasa's sheet, realizing they had different exam rooms. He mentioned this to his friend before they could walk any further, wishing each other luck and going their separate ways to take the written part of the entrance exam.

"Hello applicants, for those of you who don't know me, I am the pro hero Ectoplasm." A tall man wearing a tan cloak said.

Izuku tried his best not to fanboy, only managing to vibrate a little in his seat, his feathers puffed out a bit more than usual; even with his nerves, he had an ironclad grip on his muttering.

The clone hero walked down the rows of ansty teens, passing each one a horrifyingly thick booklet and what looked to be a paper for them to work on for the math and science sections for the exams. After passing out the booklets the man walked back to the front of the room and stood behind the podium before speaking.

"The test will last 3 hours, my clones will be walking through the aisles, so don't cheat. You may open your booklets. NOW!"

The shuffling of papers had been heard throughout the room for the last two hours, Izuku had finished a mere twenty minutes ago. He'd checked over his answers as soon as he finished, the test had five parts to it. Mathematics, Science, English, History, and Hero Ethics. Three of those parts had an essay and the other two short response questions that weren't easy by any definition, but Izuku managed.

The reason he hadn't handed his test in yet was due to his anxiety. While Ectoplasm had said they could if they finished early, his tone heavily implied that they shouldn't unless they were absolutely sure. Izuku didn't doubt his smarts, but the hidden warning still gave him pause. Coming to a decision, the greenette stood from his seat, test paper in hand, and walked to the proctor with a confident smirk. With his business in the room finished, he exited. As soon as the door shut, the boy let out a weary sigh. There wasn't a snowball's chance in hell that he wouldn't be pegged by the other applicants or even the teachers.

'I guess I'll just have to deal with it later, I should probably head to the cafeteria now'.

TIMESKIP: AFTER WRITTEN PORTION

LOCATION: AUDITORIUM

'Lunch Rush's food was better than I thought it would be, his katsudon is amazing'. Izuku and Inasa, after meeting in the cafeteria, headed to the auditorium where the plethora of hero hopefuls that had surprisingly filled the space to capacity despite its large size.

As there wasn't a specified seating chart, which Izuku thanked god for, pun intended, the two friends sat next to each other. They watched amusedly as when students complained about how the written portion went. The white noise of chatter abruptly died out when the light dimmed and the recognizable figure of Present Mic walked onto the stage down below.

Those who weren't in their seats, took them. "HELLO LITTLE LISTENERS, AND WELCOME TO THE PRACTICAL BRIEFING OF THE UA ENTRANCE EXAMS. CAN I GET A YEAH?!" Without hesitation, Inasa and Izuku let out twin shouts. Unfortunately, it didn't seem like the others shared their enthusiasm.

"THANK YOU APPLICANTS 4325 AND 4326." The voice hero said, sending a thumbs up in the pair's direction. After that little bout of excitement, the winged teen went back to studying the pamphlet that was given to them. Even though it was just a habit that'd been picked up, he learned that while it was good to take an expert's advice at times, one also needed to draw their own conclusions.

Through his investigation of the paper, he found out there were four types of robots that would be available to them to earn points. Although, that wasn't really the case for the fourth silhouette. Just as the observation, a rigid hand shot into the air. Pointing to the teen that the respective arm was attached to, the hero in charge of the debrief spoke his acknowledgement of the teen.

"It is clearly shown on the pamphlet allotted to us that there are four robot types, yet you have only stated three! If this is an error, then it is shameful for a prestigious school such as UA!" Alongside the rant were what could only be categorized as karate chops and horrible robotic imitations which the teens free arms moved through.

With a dismissive wave, Present Mic stated that he hadn't gotten to explain the fourth robot yet and it was to be saved for the last few minutes of the briefing. A firm nod later, and the robotic boy sat.

'Either he's a bit wound up or that's how he always is, maybe both?' Izuku thought, an eyebrow raised.

Shortly after the little moment the presentation was done with, the hero prospects moved to the changing rooms to get into proper attire for the practical portion of the exam

Izuku spread his wings to lightly stretch them in preparation to take flight as soon as the test began. He was wearing a light blue tank top and grey sweatpants. A few people gave looks of confusion but it didn't seem to extend past that. In return, he observed more of the people in his testing group. His mismatched eyes landed on an auburn haired girl, who appeared to be a bit jittery. Figuring he had loosened himself up enough, he made to walk over. Before he could reach her, a large hand landed a firm grip on his shoulder, stopping him in place.

"What do you think you're doing?! That girl is clearly trying to concentrate, are you hoping to distract her to lessen her chances of succeeding?!" The taller teen said, much louder than necessary. Izuku, dumbfounded by the boy's ability to jump to conclusions, was about to respond when a shout rang through all the test sites.

"GOOOOOO!" The boisterous voice of Present Mic ordered, and without a second thought, Izuku teleported into the air above the grounds. He let himself free fall for a moment to gather speed. His wings snapped out at the last second to let himself become parallel to the street of the mock city below.

"WHY ARE YOU STILL STANDING THERE, APPLICANT 4325 HAS THE RIGHT IDEA!"

Coming out of their stupors, the rest of the examinees rushed into the testing grounds, now aware that they were already behind.

Izuku let a ray of light escape his palm, turning the 3-pointer he was aiming at to slag. Creating a volley of light orbs, he sent them toward a group of 1-pointers. They only had 4 minutes left and he was at 67 points already. 'Although I probably could've done better if I hadn't helped those people who were way in over their heads, the purple haired guy was okay at least', he thought absentmindedly.

Spotting some more robots a few blocks away, he teleported to the center of them. Making what looked to be a rope of light, he swung it in a circle around himself, bisecting the unsuspecting machines like they were wet paper. 'That brings it up to 74'.

"We seem to have an exceptional crop this year", a squeaky voice said. A grunt of agreement came from a wide-set man, a visible scar in the shape of an "x" on his left cheek.

"True, but can they pass the actual test?" Tired eyes watched the potential students' displays. Out of all of them, only 2 had found out the robots had an off switch. While the buttons weren't directly in line of sight when first seeing a robot, if you observed them from a different angle, it was quite easy to locate them. The eyes belonged to a scruffy looking man who would look more at home in a homeless shelter than a hero school.

"That's what we want to know Aizawa", the squeaky voice piped up once more, the paw of what would most likely be a cross between a mouse, dog, and bear pushed a bright red button.

Throughout all the test sites, the grounds rumbled, signifying the awakening of the 0-pointers. The examinees, quickly noting the danger, promptly fled in the opposing direction. Despite this, a select trio was actually headed toward the impending doom. One, a blonde with an explosive personality, whose anger was much like an erupting volcano. Another, a wild card, and a passionate one at that. The final figure was winged, a golden halo atop their head. Although the first was approaching the behemoth of a machine for the sole purpose of testing his combat prowess, the last two had much different ideas in mind.

"HELP!"

Izuku quickened his pace, flapping his wings almost constantly in an effort to go faster. Landing in a crouch beside the girl who was trying to get all five of her fingers on the rubble that pinned her down. Not missing a beat, Izuku ran up to her, quickly surveying the situation.

"Give me your hand!" He winced internally at his tone. The stress was getting to him. The girl, probably realizing he could help her, grabbed the outstretched limb. In a flash, the two found themselves close to the rest of the examinees that had fled from the threatening machine.

"THAT'S TIME, LITTLE LISTENERS!"

As soon as the words were uttered, all robots, including the 0-pointers shut down. Izuku breathed a sigh of relief, promptly falling on his butt.

Inasa was scowling slightly, occasionally moving participants away from stray debris caused by Bakugo's explosions. Over the months that Izuku and him had been friends, the smaller boy had opened up to him. While Inasa hadn't been told everything, there was still enough information to come to the conclusion that his best friend was deeply scarred, both physically and mentally by the experiences. He'd come to loathe the explosive blonde, and would've loved to make him fly into the sun if it wasn't for his broccoli friend.

Another explosion made itself known, ripping Inasa from his thoughts. He'd realized, in slight horror and awe that teen firecracker had blown off a decent chunk of the 0-pointer's head, effectively disabling it.

'That's overkill, even for me'. It may have been brutal, but he would begrudgingly admit that Izuku's childhood friend turned bully had some serious firepower.

Inasa found his friend conversing with a boy with indigo hair, sending a pang of slight jealousy through him. Moving the feeling to the back of his mind, he happily called out.

"Hey Inasa, how'd you do?"

"I GOT 63 POINTS!" Izuku had an uncharacteristic shit-eating grin on his face. Shinso, suddenly felt his respect for the winged boy grow slightly. Inasa, bless his soul, didn't notice Izuku's change in expression.

"What about you?"

Izuku replied slowly, "I got 74 points". Inasa quietly sobbed the rest of the way to the train station.
