Chapter 2

The next night Jimmy met up outside of the Marvels pavilion with Vi. His hand was stuck in the pockets of the army uniform that he hated.

Vi looked over at her brother as she wore her SSR uniform. "Quite busy this evening." She said as she looked around at the bustling crowd that was around them.

"Too many people for my taste honestly," Jimmy said as he looked at his sister. "But I'm not going to complain, pup." He knew that his sister didn't like the idea of him complaining. It was something that gritted her teeth in annoyance and the last thing he wanted to do was annoy her before he left for overseas.

Vi looked over at her brother, her lips quirking into a smile. "I would surely hope not. Besides, it's your last night here and it would be best if you were able to at least enjoy your last night of freedom with your sister."

Jimmy put his heavy arm around her shoulder making sure that no guy would look at her twice.

"Jimmy, you're doing it again," Vi said softly, looking up at him.

"So…" Jimmy questioned looking down at his younger sister his voice rather gruff. He didn't care that he was doing it again. He wanted to make sure that no single male would even lay eyes on her and thinking that they were going to flirt with her and get a chance to date her. It was something that he thought that they shouldn't do.

"Jimmy, you can't keep on doing this." She said softly, shaking her head. "You can't keep trying to intimidate men that want to talk to me."

"No, man is good for you, pup."

"Only you would say that Jimmy and that's not fair. Just because you don't want someone in your life doesn't mean that I don't. I truly do want someone in my life that will love me for who I am." She said looking up at her brother letting out a soft huff as she walked with him.

"And if they find out the things that you and I did during World War I then what, pup?"

Vi rolled her eyes as she looked at her brother. "James Howlett Jr you take that back right now. We know that nothing would ever be believed of us being that old now. We look like we're in our early 20's so quit making it such a big deal."

"Violet, you know that on the path that we're on no one should ever know how old we truly are."

"Don't you think I know that Jimmy? We were born in the early 1800s don't you think that I am wise enough to not say that we're over 100 years old?" She snapped her eyes narrowing into slits of frustration. She let out a breath as a dashing young man came out onto the stage smartly dressed with a 1942 Cadillac next to him.

"Ladies, you know how hard it can be putting on makeup in a car that's bouncing like a kangaroo on a trampoline. What if I told you that in just a few short years, your automobile wouldn't touch the ground at all?" The man questioned as he hit the button causing the Cadillac to rise, leaving its tires on the ground.

"What the…" Vi trailed off as she watched the car hover in midair. "That… that can't be normal."

"With Stark Gravitic Reversion Technology, you'll be able to do just that…"

Suddenly a loud pop was heard and an explosion caused the car to slam into the stage hard.

Howard swallowed the lump in his throat. "I did say a few years, didn't I?"

Vi let out a breath shaking her head as people around them clapped for what Howard had shown them. "I swear that man is insane." She closed her eyes in frustration. She couldn't believe that this was someone that she was working within the SSR. She could only hope that this bright man wouldn't do anything else stupid.

"You know that moron?" Jimmy questioned looking over at his sister.

"Yes, he's one of the brightest minds on SSR," Vi said softly as she noticed the doctor that she had been working with. She let out a breath. "Jimmy, can you give me about 20 minutes or so?" She questioned softly knowing that she needed to talk to Doctor Erskine and see if she could help him find the proper person for the project that they were working on.

"Yeah, I'll be waiting at the exit for you." Jimmy said clasping his hand on her shoulder and allowing her to go.

"Thanks, Jimmy." She said softly before walking over to Dr. Erskine. "Doctor." She nodded her head to the man.

"Agent Howlett. I want you to go into the recruitment center." Doctor Erskine said as he looked at the young woman.

Violet nodded her head in agreement. "I can do that, sir. I'll report back to you if I find one that is kind heart correct?"

"That would be right, Agent."

Violet nodded her head before she walked into the recruitment center knowing that this task that the doctor had given her could go in many different directions. She couldn't fully understand why he wanted someone of pure heart, but she was willing to find that person if they existed. She saw a man clamp his hand on a smaller man's shoulder who was trying to see what he would look like in the military uniform.

"You're kind of missing the point of a "double date." Come on, we're gonna get a chocolate soda." The dark-haired man told his friend.

"You go ahead." The blond-haired man said softly letting out a huff of agitation.

Violet turned her head when she saw Dr. Erskine come up beside her. "Doctor." She said softly, moving her eyes towards the two men that were talking.

"You're really gonna do this now?"

"It's a fair. I'm gonna try my luck."

"As who? "Steve from Ohio"? They'll catch you. Or worse, they'll actually take you."

The man smiled grimly at his friend. "You don't think I can do it."

"This isn't some back alley, Steve. It's a war. Why are you so keen to fight? There are lots of other

important jobs."

"You want me to sit in a factory? Collect scrap metal in my little red wagon while the men are laying down their lives? I can do as well as them and I have no right to do any less. That's the thing you don't get, Bucky. It's not about me."

Bucky let out a groan as he looked at Steve. "Right. 'Cause, you've got nothing to prove."

Violet took a breath through her teeth knowing that this was getting heated, but she had a feeling that they had found the person pure of heart. "Doctor?" She questioned softly looking over at the older man.

"That's exactly who we're looking for."

"You think that he will be strong enough for what you need him for?"

"Yes, Agent Howlett."

Violet nodded her head firmly knowing that there probably wasn't something that she would be able to talk him out of.

"Now Agent, I believe that you have a young man waiting on you?"

"How did you…"

"I saw the man that you were with. He seemed rather protective of you before you had come over to me."

"He's my brother, of course, he's rather protective of me."

"And this is his last night in town?"

"Yes, it is. He's headed overseas tomorrow." Violet admitted softly.

"I do apologize for taking you away from your time with your brother. You should get back to him."

"Thank you, Doctor." She said softly bowing her head in respect towards the man. "I'm sure I'll see you very soon."

"That you will."

Violet moved quickly towards the exit knowing that Dr. Erskine was going to be busy with the young man Steve who was truly fighting through the red tape just to join the army. In a way, she hoped that the good doctor was correct in the choice that they had watched. She walked towards the exit knowing that she needed to spend the last few hours together with Jimmy before he left. She came upon Jimmy who was busy smoking a cigar. "Truly another cigar?"

"You were taking your good old sweet time."

"Sorry, Jimmy. I was talking to the Doctor I've been working with. I think he found the person he wants to use."

"He wants to use someone for what?"

"Jimmy, you know I can't say anything."

"Violet if it is being used on…" Jimmy trailed off his lips curling in anger.

"Keep your claws in, Jimmy. This is for the good of the people… Doctor Erskine isn't going to kill anyone. This is to help the troops."

Jimmy looked at his sister. "You hate it when people experiment on others."

"Jimmy I know you know I hate that, but this is to help bring something special into the world… hell Jimmy we don't even know if it is going to work. I doubt that whatever they're using will make the poor man turn into us."

Jimmy ran his hand through his hair slightly frustrated at what his sister was saying.

"Jimmy, I know you don't trust them, but please trust me."

Jimmy let out a breath as he looked at her. "Alright, fine."

Vi let out a breath as she crossed her arms looking at her brother. "At least trust me. I'll pull the plug if it is too dangerous, but we're at war… we can't just…"

Jimmy shook his head. "I don't like this."

"I know."

This is the end of Chapter 2. I hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter. I enjoyed writing the banter between the siblings we have met Howard, Steve, Bucky, and Dr. Erskine in this chapter, but they haven't fully interacted with Violet. I hope that I did well with this chapter. Please leave a review and let me know what you think of this chapter. Reviews help me out when it comes to writing. It helps me keep my muse going in my writing. I will hopefully update you on Sunday with a brand new chapter. Until next time.
