"Okay!" Yoda announced. "Time for a break, it is! At ease, young Skywalker!"
Luke sighed with relief as he thankfully stopped sprinting. He bent over, puffing and panting. The young boy was exhausted from all this running his was doing through the swamps of Dagobah. Having to carry his teacher on his back didn't exactly make it easy.
"Master Yoda, I'm bushed!" Luke gasped wearily. "I had no idea that training to become a Jedi was so draining!"
"Then to cheer you up…" Yoda smiled. "A joke, I shall tell you!"
"Oh." Luke's gaze perked up, filling with worry over what his trainer was preparing to do. "It's okay, Master Yoda. You don't have to trouble yourself by telling me any jokes.
"No, no! Insist I do! Like this, you will!"
Yoda beamed. He was confident that he was as good at telling jokes as he was at using the Force. Clinging onto Luke's back, he didn't see the boy rolling his eyes irritably.
"Why afraid of seven was nine?"
"I don't know," Luke murmured, "and I don't care."
"Because six, seven ate!"
The quiet atmosphere of the swamp was suddenly filled with loud laughter. Yoda had burst into chuckles over his own joke. His crazy laughs caused birds to scattered from the trees while the creatures swimming through the lake disappeared below the surface.
Luke made a face at only Yoda's unique way of speaking could make that joke work. That didn't, however, make it the slightest bit amusing for the boy.
"Funny," Yoda snickered, "am I not?"
"No, Master Yoda," Luke affirmed bluntly, "you are not."
Yoda stopped laughing. A glare scrunched across his wrinkled green face. He wasn't pleased to be told he wasn't humorous, least of all by a youngster he was training to become a Jedi.
Without warning, Yoda suddenly whacked Luke across the back of his head with his walking stick.
"OW!" Luke hollered.
"Over, break time is!" Yoda barked. "Back to your training, young Skywalker! Hop to it or give you a terrible time, I will!"
"Okay! Geez, Master Yoda! Sheesh!"
Rubbing the back of his sore head, Luke began running again. He darted through the misty swamps of Dagobah, carrying his small but powerful teacher.
The young student was determined not to have his master carry out his threat to give him a terrible time.
Luke wasn't willing to give Yoda a chance to his him with his stick again - or tell him any more awful jokes.
THE END
