I know there's been another position gap, but I write my best when Punk is on TV which has once again hasn't been often. But the way he looked last night got this chapter finished! I hope you enjoy it! WWE owns theirs, AEW owns theirs, TNA owns theirs and I own mine.
Jessica's POV
I took a deep breath as our car pulled up to our home. Phil's men surrounded the property, every entry way, balcony, even on the roof. I felt a chill run through me as the danger of being here brought. I quickly shook my head clear of the thought as I reminded myself that I chose to come back. I'm choosing the mob wife life…I want to be involved and that means being aware of the danger and making moves to end it. Phil got out of the car, came around and opened my door.
"It's not too late, I can fly you back." He whispered, sensing my nerves. I shook my head.
"No. I want to do this, I want to be here with you." I told him. I watched as he swallowed hard, he was hoping I'd want to go back.
"Settle in and come to my office, I'll call everyone in." He grabbed my hand helping me out of the car and we walked into the house.
"Phil, these are a lot of men. Did you hire more?" I asked him.
"No, they were always here. I made sure they were never seen, but now we need a larger presence. I have to make sure no one thinks about touching this house." He said. I swallowed and nodded. Phil walked me directly to our bedroom, pulled me to him and kissed me, hard. He pulled away, both of us breathless.
"I'm telling you now…" he started his eyes turning cold, "there will barely be time for us till this is over. If we do have time, it will be quick and rough…we can't afford to let our guard down."
"Can we now?" I asked wrapping my arms around his neck. His eyes softened a touch, a small moment of pain flashing through them.
"No." He said softly. He leaned forward rubbing his nose on mine. I could tell that the beginning of our marriage isn't going how he wants it to and its weighing on him hard. He leaned forward and placed a much softer kiss on my lips.
"I love you, more than you know." He whispered.
"I love you too." I said, kissing him once more. He pulled back preventing anything from going further.
"Come out when you're ready." He said.
"I am ready." I said confidently, time to find my inner bitch. He raised an eye brow at me with a hint of a smile on his face, before grabbing my hand and leading me out. We walked to the office where everyone was waiting him, us and walked in. I noticed that there were two chairs behind Phil's desk now. Every man stood at attention as we walked to the desk where Phil motioned for me to sit before sitting beside me. Once I sat, I took notice to how beaten some of them looked. The last three weeks were just as tough on them as it was us. As Phil cleared his throat my attention went back on him.
"As you know, Jessica is going to be more involved in our operations. You are to treat her even better than you treat me. Her protection is first and foremost…even before mine." I opened my mouth to object but before I could he shot me a look to not even think about undermining him in front of his guys.
"Please note, that background checks will be redone on all of you. If you have anything to hide, you better step up now, because if I find out any of you are hiding anything…" he started to trail off when I head a thud on the table and I watched him open a brief case and take out different sharp implements that I can only imagine why he has them. "These will just be the beginning." He finished. I looked at the men and no one flinched, no one showed a shred of guilt. No way it's any of his men. "Dismissed." Phil gruffly said, but no one moved. He reached for me, grabbed my hand and pulled me to stand. He led me out of the room and back to our room.
"Now what?" I asked him.
"I'm going to do some recon with my team." He said, pulling his shirt over his head before tossing it to the side.
"And me?" I asked.
"This you cannot do. I haven't taught you how to defend yourself yet."
"So I stay home?" I ask, clearly annoyed. He stopped and looked at me.
"You can go to the list of locations that I've approved with a security team." He said.
"I know I'm in danger but I'm not in the mood for a security team." I said, huffing as I plopped on the bed.
"Well then your option is here and your parents, because my men are already there."
"Guess I'm going to my parents then…" I say with a huff and dropping down to the bed. Phil raises an eyebrow at me.
"What's wrong with here?" He asked, pulling a pair of black cargo pants on, "You've been away from home for weeks."
"Staying here just reminds me that you're out there doing god knows what." I said, propping myself up on my arms, "At least there I'm used to not having you." Phil finishes putting on his necessary gear before moving to a cabinet filled with his favorite weapons.
"Once this is all over, we won't have this problem." He says. I could tell by his tone that he's getting tired of my complaining. "Go to your parents, and I'll have someone come get you when I come home."
"Why can't you get me?" I asked.
"We'll see. Now go." He said sternly. I pouted and he walked over placing a kiss on my forehead.
"I love you." He said softly. I looked up into his green eyes, his body maybe rigid but his eyes were soft.
"I love you too." I said reaching up and placing a soft kiss to his lips. He walks away from me and I get up heading to the front door where to know shock, there's a car waiting for me. I climb in and it takes off with me saying nothing, knowing my husband made the command before I even finalized my decision. The ride to my parents is quick and uneventful and before I know it the door is being opened and I'm staring at my childhood home. I haven't been gone long and yet it feels like ages. Something about staring at this home has me on edge…like I don't belong. I shake the feeling and I head on in, finding the house strangely quiet. There was no one to greet me, I don't hear voices or footsteps moving in the house anywhere. My sister is almost always here, so I'm shocked when I don't even see her as I walk to the kitchen.
"Hello?" I call out. Nothing. I turn and start heading upstairs towards my old room. As I reach the top, a small erratic man that I don't recognize stops me.
"Oh!" He stops in his tracks, "Ms. McMahon! We weren't expecting you!" He tells me.
"It's Mrs. Brooks now…" I start, "Who are you?"
"Oh sorry! I forgot we haven't met! I'm Tony Khan, your father's advisor." He says reaching out to shake my hand. I eye him warily as I meet his hand. Advisor? Since when does my father need an advisor?
"Advisor?" I ask.
"Yes, I was brought on not long after your wedding. Your father has big plans!" He tells me. Plans? Isn't Phil his plan? I have to call him, I have to call someone…something isn't right here.
"Well, Tony…it was nice to meet you…" I start, moving out of his path, "But I'm just going to head to my old room and grab a few things and I'll be on my way." I say.
"Oh no, your father will want to see you right away…you weren't supposed to come home just yet, but I'm sure it's fine!" He says, grabbing my arm and leading me down the hall to my father's office.
"I'm sure he's busy, I'll give him a call to schedule another day." I try, pulling my arm away. Tony tightens his grip. I can feel his fingers digging into my arm…this is definitely going to bruise. As he drags me down the hall I notice the lack of Phil's men…where are they, they should all be here. On second thought…where are my dad's men? And Randy…Dave…even my brother in law is missing. Tony throws open my father's door and practically throws me in and shuts the door behind us. I hear the faint clicking of the door locking as it closes. Fuck.
When my father turns around I have to hold back a gasp. Gone is the loving father who taught me everything, gave me anything I wanted or needed and gave me away a few weeks ago. In his place is a man consumed by power and greed. His eyes are almost black. I swallow the lump in my throat.
"There's my darling girl!" He says smiling. The smile doesn't reach his eyes."Welcome home!" He says.
"Dad, what's going on? Where is everyone? Where are Phil's men?" I ask, the pit feeling in my stomach beginning to form.
"I'm bringing you home baby girl. Everyone is gone…we don't need them…especially Phil's men." He tells me. When he speaks Phil's name, he says it as if its toxic…that he's a cancer.
"Dad, I'm married…I don't live here anymore." I stutter out.
"But you will, I found a way to get you out of his clutches." He says. Out? I don't want out.
"But Daddy, I love him." I plead.
"You don't love him!" He barks. "You're too young to know what love is! Your just a pawn in his game, he doesn't care about you." He spits.
"Yes he does…" I start fighting back, "If anyone's treated me like a pawn its you. You sold me off to him to clear your debts. You fucked up with the Carter's!"
"He's a criminal Jessica! I'm sure I know what he's thinking!" He starts.
"The only criminal is you!" I yell, tears streaming down my face.
"Plus the Carter's are no longer an enemy…they're an ally." He continues. I still…they're an ally…for my father? That means… my mouth drops open as the pieces click together. There isn't a mole…my father has double crossed Phil…which means…
"Aren't you going to ask how sweetheart?" He asks…smirking as he watches me realize. I stay silent…tears streaming down my face.
"It's all thanks to my dear advisor Tony. You see he worked under Phil briefly but quietly snuck out before your darling husband even realized he was there. Tony was working for the Carter's but saw the potential of our partnership and changed the tides. All we needed was for you to come back from where ever he had you to complete our plan. Once Brooks is out of the way and his entire operation belongs to you, you'll be married off to Carter's son and we'll be the strongest crime family."
"That will never happen…Phil's going to…" I start gritting my teeth.
"Phil's going to what darling?" He asks mockingly. "The only thing Phil is going to do is die." He adds, all humor from his voice gone. "Take her to her room Tony, and make sure to take all her belongings too." Tony once again grabs my arm too tight and drags me out. Not once do I break eye contact with my father. I can feel the fire in my stare but all I get back from him is cold and black. Tony drags me down the hall and throws me into my room, taking everything outside the door.
"Don't even try the window, if there's anything we've learned from your soon to be dead husband, its how to hide in plain sight." With that he slams the door locking it behind him. Banging and pulling on the door I notice my door knob has been flipped…leaving me no way to unlock it. I flop on the bed hoping that Phil is one of those weirdo control freaks that chipped me in my sleep. Tears begin to fall again as I can only hope that Phil figures out what's happened.
Phil's POV
I trudge through my front door, dirty, sweaty and beat up. I check the time and see that is 1:28 in the morning. I find it odd that Jessica never asked for a pick up, but at the same time the car that took her never came back. Maybe she had it stay there just in case I came home too late.
"Having fun baby? I'm home and I miss you." I text hoping she'll run home right away. I head up to my office to review the information forgoing a shower just in case Jessica would like to join me. There's nothing I need more right now than to bury myself inside her. I see the stack of background checks waiting for me so I sit and get to it. As I lift the stack I see one report with a post-it on the front.
Terminated? It reads.
Terminated? Who have we gotten rid of? I've been keeping everyone in case they decide to run to the Carter's. I check the name, Tony Khan. I don't know who the hell this is. As I go to check his photo my phone vibrates. I smile knowing it must be my girl…however my smile dies as I see the message…its from Randy Orton…one of Vince's right hands.
"Get out of your house, NOW!" It reads. What the…
BOOM!
Cliff hanger! Did you guys expect it to go this way? I can tell you, that I planned to have Tony be the mole but after Phil's exit it was hard to get him in. It was very easy to villainize Vince, but I had to align him and Tony to make the story make sense. Let me know if you knew Vince would be in on it! We've maybe got 2 chapters left, a final conclusion and an Epilogue! Thanks for reading!
