Gale had driven into the parking lot of the hotel she was staying at, with Vince sitting in the passenger side next to her as they both got out.

In truth, Vince wasn't even sure himself where this was going to go, some part of him had thought of going back to the trailer park and waiting for Dewey there.

He wasn't even sure himself if he was going to be any help to Gale.

But whatever the reason, he was here now as Gale pulled out her keys to her hotel room and the two went inside.

It was a fairly nice hotel room, with some furniture that clearly belonged in the 90s, with a couple of chair, tables and a TV, wit

h a separate bedroom and bathroom that looked just as old.

Immediately, Gale took off her heels and left them just next to the door.

"So how's Dewey?' Gale finally asks, heading towards the bedroom before shutting the door.

"Yeah.. he's about alright," Vince wasn't exactly sure how he could tell her about Dewie's drinking problem.

"That's… that's good to hear.." Gale says from the bedroom and then there is silence for a few minutes.

Gale then comes out, no longer wearing her bright red blazer and trousers and now was wearing a blue short sleeve sweater with White stripes along the ends of the sleeves and bottom of the shirt and black pants.

She looked much more comfortable now.

"Alright," Gale said and ushered Vince towards the small table and the two sat down on opposite ends, "Tell me what's been going on up until today."

Vince let out a sigh, which turned into a deep breath.

"Ok, so Tara, Sam's sister, was attacked on Friday, then I was attacked near the bar and Sam was attacked at the hospital, and then this morning

"Alright, you have any idea of what the killers are after?"

"Mindy thinks whoever's doing this is trying to make a requel."

'A what?'

"You know, like the Force Awakens, Halloween, I don't know really but I'm pretty sure its a movie that goes back to the original film, not like a remake or anything I think." Vince let out a sigh, "She said that whoever is doing this is targeting people who have ties to the original murders."

"Ok, that's a start…" Gale said, not quite getting what Vince was saying.

"Yeah, Mindy and Chad are targets."

"Who are they?"

"Martha Meeks kids,"

"Ah."

"Yeah, then there was Wes, whose Mum is Judy-"

"But she wasn't a part of the original Woodsboro murders."

"I don't know, maybe increase the bodycount? Anyways, then there's me being-"

Vince was pointing to himself just before he said this, and looked down at his finger, he was shaking slightly.

"-being related to Stu," The words alone felt like venom in his mouth, "And then there's Liv Mckenzie, her family was the one who called in the murders of Casey Baker and Steven Orth."

Gale nodded thinking of something.

"What about Sam and Tara?" She asked.

"What?"

'What's their connection to the original?"

Vince lip went into a thin line and let out a quiet gulp, "The main theory is that the killers attacked Tara to bring Sam back up, she pretty much seems to be the main target of the killers."

"But what does Sam have to do with the original murders" Gale said, and Vince could tell in her eyes that she knew he knew something.

"I can't tell you," Vince shrugs.

"What? Why not."

"Well Gale, in case you haven't noticed," Vince said in a more exasperated tone, smiling, "You have a bit of a habit of writing books about Ghostface cases whenever you get involved.

Gale let out a scoff, "This isn't about-"

"Look, I'm fine with every news media around that my name is written to filth because I'm the nephew of Stu Macher once this is all over," Vince continued firmly, wincing at the name of his uncle, "But she shouldn't have to go through that, not her."

He let out a sigh.

"Look, all you have to know is that she has a strong connection to the original. That's it."

Gale seemed to be thinking of something to say as her eyes gazed around before going back to Vince.

"I haven't even had time for writing… Besides, I did come here for that, I came here for Dewey.'

Vince let out a scoff, rolling his eyes, "Yeah right" but immediately as the words came out of mouth he regretted them and let out a sigh.

"I'm sorry… of course you're here for him. You've had a history together for so long…"

He let out another sigh, thinking for a moment.

"I just… I don't know. I wonder if I should have gone with him and Sam to the hospital."

"Dewey's a strong guy," Gale said, "He's been doing this for years and hasn't shown any signs of letting up."

Vince smiled a bit at that and nodded, "Yeah you're right."

"So he's been doing fine?" Gale asked again, relaxing a bit on the couch. Vince shuffled in his seat a bit.

"Fine, for the most part… I just… I feel like this whole town is holding him back," Vince's lips then turned into a frown, "I mean, the fact that they forced him to quit after everything he's done for this place."

"Yeah, I heard," Gale said, sounding irritable at being reminded of it.

Vince relaxed slightly, glancing out over the window.

"I doubt he'd want to leave though, he'll put other people's problems well before his own, I know that from experience," Vince said warmly, letting out a dry chuckle. Gale smiled a little, but then went right back to serious.

"Is that all our suspects?"

"No, there's Sam's boyfriend Richie who came with her and Amber. She's Tara's girlfriend."

Gale's eyes widened slightly at the mention of the word "boyfriend" and Vince noticed.

"What?" He asked her.

"Oh nothing, I'd honestly thought that.. Well, given how close you were.."

Vince didn't get what she was saying at first before it slowly dawned on him.

"I'm not interested…"

But Vince felt a slight blush coming on his cheeks. What the fuck am I doing? He thought, There a murder going on, why am I thinking of that?"

"I'm not you Gale.." Vince said, Gale sort of frowned.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Isn't that how you and Dewey, you throwing yourself at him so you get some insight of the murders," Vince explained, and Gale's eyes softened at his words, "That is literally how you two met anyways."

Gale smiled for a moment, smiling at the memories that she was clearly thinking off, but then it faded as she looked down at the table. She seemed to be contemplating something, though Vince had no idea what.

She then straightened up and pulled something from her pocket, her phone.

"Alright, I'm just gonna.. Call someone… I'll be just a minute."

Gale then got up and before Vince could say anything, she had walked right into the bedroom and shut the door behind her.

Perhaps in any other situation where he wasn't being targeted by a masked killer, Vince would have just sat there on the couch and waited for her.

But he remembered one line from the Stab movies, it had been so long, but it was still prevalent as ever.

Everyone's a suspect.

For all Vince knew, Gale could be calling up the killer, her accomplice. Of course he didn't really believe it in his head, but there still, it could very well be important.

And so, Vince quietly got up from the couch and stood beside the bedroom door. The walls were so thin that he could hear just fine what was happening inside.

He could hear the phone ring.

And ring.

And ring.

It rang a few more times and he could then hear the voicemail message coming from the phone.

"Hey, this is Dewey, I'm not here right now so leave a message and I'll try to get back to you."

Dewey.

There came a beep and Vince could hear a sigh coming from Gale.

"Hey Dewey," She sighed, "Listen, call me when you get this. I just.. really wanna talk to you in person. I didn't want our first time seeing each other after all these years to be us arguing…"

Gale seems to be pacing around the room and lets out another sigh, clearly trying to put her words together.

"Listen, When you call me back, can we go somewhere to talk? It's clear that we haven't been completely honest to each other about why our marriage went into shambles…"

"I still…" Gale let an almost anxious inhale and stopped for a moment.

"Love you… I don't know, I just know I wanna talk to you when I next see you. Ok? Call me when you get this."

Vince heard her hang up the phone as he leaned back on the wall.

Now he sort of wished he hadn't listened in, as he pushed himself back off the wall and back on the couch.

He pulled out his phone and without really thinking pulled up his photos on his phone.

He scrolled back a few years ago and sure enough he found Something he hadn't looked at in quite some time.

It was a photo from 2017, at His highschool graduation, wearing his dark green robes and matching graduation cap. It was a selfie of him, and right next to him was Dewey.

He looked less scruffy and disbelieved like he does in the present, and had a smile on his face.

He was happy, and so was Vince.

He flipped to the next page and it was the same photo, except his Mum was in the frame, just as happy as they were.

He flipped another page, and it was the three of them having dinner together on the same day.

He had more photos just like this, plenty more than he had or his own father.

His own father had made no efforts to be in his life, hell he hadn't even tried to contact him after he got attacked.

But Dewey.

Dewey had been, and in many ways, Vince had seen him this whole time as…

Dewey. Vince's mind went right back to what they'd been talking before, about whoever was doing these killings and attacks was trying to create a requel.

He got out of his photos app and went onto google, and searched "Stab 8."

Immediately, he was hit with articles:

"The Fall of Stab: Why the movie failed its audience."

"Stab (2021) is a disappointment and here's why"

"Here's why Stab 2022 fails to live up to the original."

"Jeez, this looks bad." Vince said to himself.

"What is?" Gale called from her room, she then opened the bedroom door and sat back on the couch, she had now put on a brown coat.

"The recent Stab movie, it was supposed by be a requel ro the original. Was basically panned by everyone as being terrible…"

"No kidding…" Gale said, relaxing a bit on the couch as she put her phone back in her pocket.

"Yeah… Apparently Sidney wasn't in it either, that was one of the main complaints of it…"

Vince was thinking of something, Wonder why they couldn't get Sidney in the latest movie?

"That's funny…" Vince said.

"What is?"

"No it's just… You and Dewey being here, the only person missing is Sidney."

Gale nodded, sort of understanding.

And then something went in Vince's mind.

What if that was the plan all along, bring the legacy characters back to Woodsboro. Dewey became involved because he knows me, Gale came cause she's a News reporter…

"What would make Sidney-"

And then the answer comes to him, it hits him like a ton of bricks. His eyes widen as his breath becomes shaky.

"No" He breathes.

Gale looks at him concerned as his eyes dart to the door and he quickly gets up.

"We gotta go" Vince says quickly, and he grabs Gale's arm and hauls her up from the coach. She barely has time to register what's happening as Vince is dragging her out towards the front door.

"What? What is-"

But Gale sees the expression on Vince's face, and it tells her that something is very wrong and that they had to go.

"Let me get the keys."

And Gale went quickly to the counter and grabbed them before the two of them headed outside, she didn't even bother to lock the hotel room.

Vince was already at Gale's car when she got out and she quickly ran also, as she got there, she threw the keys to him which he caught effortlessly as he unlocked the car and got in. Gale followed after and she had only just shut the door before Vince started the engine and reversed hardback. She jumped a bit as she tried to put her seatbelt on. Vince hadn't as he sped out of the hotel parking and back onto the main road.

He knew well and truly that he was going over the speed limit.

And if this was any other day, Judy would pull him over with a ticket.

But Judy was dead.

And they needed to get to the hospital.

He's fine, he's gonna be fine, Vince kept thinking to himself. He wasn't looking at Gale, but something told him she already knew.

Then…

Ring!

Vince doesn't even glance at his phone.

Ring!

Ring!

Ring!

Ring!

Ring!

It stopped, but then it started back up again. Vince ignored it, there were tears forming in the corner of his eyes.

He's not dead, he's gonna be at the hospital, and he's gonna be fine, he'll be fine. You're gonna see him when you get to the hospital.

They could see the hospital in the distance.

And he could see the red and blush flashing lights of the police.

See, he's gonna be fine, he's probably been the one calling this whole time. He's fine, He's still..

However, as they got closer, they could see a dark navy bus.

"CORONER" Was written on the sides.

Vince finally slowed the car enough and just sat for a moment as Gale got out quickly.

Vince didn't immediately look up at what the scene was as he just looked at his knuckles, they were white as as he kept breathing in and out quickly, almost hyperventilating.

His eyes looked up, and in the distance, he could see Sam and Richie talking to an officer.

Where's Dewey? He thought.

And then he saw it.

The coroners were pulling something on a stretcher.

Vince got up then and out of the car, shutting the door. Gale stood there for a moment, everything seemed to happen so fast as Gale started to walk, almost run.

Vince just stood there. His eyes looking everywhere as he sees that Sam has noticed their arrival and she and Richie quickly run over to Gale.

Where's Dewey? He thought naively, He's around here somewhere right, He's being treated for his injuries, he's right in there. He isn't in-

Gale's cries soon come as Sam and Richie hold her back nd it echoes and reaches into his mind of what has just happened.

No, He felt the tears that had been building in the corner of his eyes to spill slightly, whilst his whole body began to tremble.

No, he's in the hospital. That's not him in that body, That's not him. He isn't dead, he's in that hospital.

He sort of begins to move as Gale cries wail out, his whole body feels numb.

There's no way the killer got him!

Richie looks over and sees the shaken state that Vince's in and lets go of Gale and walks up to him.

He looks utterly crushed as he approaches him. Why was he looking at him like that?

"We're sorry, we tried to call you after what happened," He said, holding his arms out.

"No," Vince's voice cracked, "No, That's not… that's not him.. He's not…"

"I'm sorry…"

"No.."

And he starts to walk, almost run towards the body bag,

It can't be, you can't be, you're not. Dewey!

He feels Richie's arms wrap around him and holds him in place as he tries to push back.

"No!" He yells, and finally the tears start to fall. He falls to his knees and Richie lets him. Everything just comes out, his mouth quivering as his vision becomes blurring from his tears.

He can see Sam looking over at him and the two make eye contact.

He makes no sound that could sound anything comprehensible to a human being, he just sits there, weeping and crying and yelling as Richie just holds him.

Dewey, the man who had never given up on him, the one who had seen him as Vince and not the devil spawn that was his uncle.

The man who had been there through everything.

Was gone.

He could only make out one word, one that no one could hear, and had been the only thing that Dewey had really been for Vince.

"Dad…"
