Chapter 11: Taking It For Granted…
I'd gotten 380 experience for the Lighthouse Event, which bumped me to level 8. I didn't get any new abilities as far as I could tell, but I did get a small bump to the distance my current abilities worked, which was nice. It was just now long enough that even at the top of the cliff, I could see some of the Pokemon far below in the water, so long as they were close to the surface at least. Bill had spent quite some time studying the egg, taking measurements, including what I recognized as a type of CT Scan. The image of the Dratini that showed on the printout told us what we'd all expected…that Dragonite had traveled all this way to give Bill her egg.
'I'm not jealous at all.' I thought, trying not to grimace. 'I'm fucking envious as fuck.'
A Dratini, even one from such a large Dragonite, and likely to grow that big as well, would be an amazing team member. Just imagining fighting at the Pokemon World Championship, and sending out a non-Dynamaxed giant Dragonite…
"Wait…do you guys think that Dragonite could be Dynamaxed?" I asked suddenly.
Jessica looked stunned for a moment, before speaking. "That would be insane…"
Jackie, who had told me all about Dynamaxing after Jessica asked if it was a permanently Dynamaxed Dragonite, also looked amazed at the idea. "I…Wow, imagine the look on Leon's face if you did that. His Dragonite is large as is, but it would be tiny in comparison!"
We all laughed at that thought before Bill finally joined us again.
"Thank you again for promising not to tell anyone what happened here," Bill said, sitting down on the couch across from us. "I can only imagine what tragedy such knowledge spreading would lead to…"
"It's not a problem Bill," I replied, with Jackie and Jessica nodding. "I don't think anyone would have believed us anyway."
"Still, as a thank you, I'd like to give you something," Bill says, before pulling out his C-Gear.
A moment later, all three of our C-Gears binged. I pulled mine out and found two things. First, was a contact request, which added Bill as a Contact. The second was-
"Holy crap!" Jessica says, practically screaming. "But no one has been allowed to go in in years!"
Staring back at me was an "Early & All Access Pass" to the Kanto and Johto Safari Zones.
"Yes, well, they've recently decided to open once more. After that nasty business a few years back, the populations seem to have at last stabilized." Bill explains. "They aren't planning to reopen till spring of next year, but those passes will get you in starting in December. No more than three visits per month, but, those passes are good for five years."
"Wow Bill, thank you!" I said, still in shock. I wasn't sure what the 'nasty business' he mentioned was, but made a mental note to look it up later. "You didn't need to give us something this expensive, or at all."
"No worries at all, Billy," Bill explains, resting a hand on the back of his head. "I was part of the project to rehabilitate the Safari Zones, so they gave me a dozen of those passes to hand out as I see fit."
"Well thank you, Bill, we'll make a trip out there when we can," Jackie says, before nudging her sister.
"Huh? Oh, yes, thank you, Bill!" She says after looking up.
Bill glances at the wall clock, before speaking again. "Well listen, kids, it's late, so why don't you three stay here for the night? I wouldn't want you all wandering through the darkness if you don't have to."
We agreed, and Bill showed us to one of the three bedrooms in the lighthouse. There were two beds, so I took one, and the sisters took the other. I lay there for a while, before pulling up my C-Gear and doing a quick search for Safari Zone. It only took me a few moments to find exactly what Bill had alluded to…and it was horrible to learn.
'...but why?' I thought as I read on.
Eight years prior, a new 'Team' had shown up in Kanto and Johto, calling themselves Team Revolution. An offshoot of the long-defunct Team Rocket, their aim was total take over…and they didn't hesitate to use violence. Kidnappings, murders, even the destruction of Goldenrod Department store, they stopped at nothing in their rampage. The entire event came to a head when they took over the Safari Zones, placing bombs all over. A young girl by the name of Crystal, who would later go on to win the Johto Championship, defeated TR's leaders in the Johto Safari Zone, but not before a wildfire had broken out, destroying much of it.
The Kanto Safari zone, however…As Red and Blue teamed up to storm the zone, the TR group there ignited the bombs, killing themselves and destroying all but a little of the zone. The two only survived because Blue's Alakazam was able to teleport them to safety at the last moment…Several species of Pokemon that could only be found there are now considered extinct in the wild due to the event.
'My god…' I thought as I wiped an eye. 'Senseless…the entire thing.'
Much like Wikipedia in my last life, I quickly found myself going down the wiki rabbit hole, reading up on all the other Teams, and Groups, that had caused havoc across the planet. It would seem that when each one would rise up, so would a young kid to defeat them. It was…honestly kinda weird now that I thought about it.
'Not surprised to see there are conspiracy theories about exactly that.' I thought as I read more. '"Why are they always named after colors, metals, and gems?" indeed.'
I closed the C-gear at last, before rolling over to fall asleep. It had been a long night, after all.
After a quick goodbye to Bill, we were on our way. We had aimed to hit the coast as the point of this trip, and now that we were here, we were happy to have made the trip. The beach and the ocean were full of Pokemon. Jessica, Jackie, and I spent the first day swimming and relaxing with our Pokemon. Kurama enjoyed chasing wild Pokemon around or running from the waves whenever they would get too close, while Odin spent most of it lazing in the hot sand nearby. Prophet, however, seemed to get his real enjoyment out of running around. I managed to build a track of sorts, with sand walls for him to jump over, and he was practically dancing with excitement.
Surprisingly it only took a bit before even some wild Pokemon were taking turns on the sand track, running and jumping as best they could. It was impossible not to laugh when a Krabby got stuck in one of the walls, his little crap legs unable to jump high enough to get over. I helped him out of the wall and was pinched for my hard work, which of course sent the girls into near hysterics. Kurama tried to Ember the poor guy, but I stopped her. He was wild, after all.
"So girls, is there anything else you'd like to do while we're in the area?" I asked, as we sat on towels, and watched the sun begin to set.
"We're what…three days from Vermillion?" Jessica asks, studying her C-Gear. "We could head down there for a few days? I haven't been in over a year."
I checked my C-Gear, comparing the traveling we just did, and the new potential destination. "That's about right unless we get distracted. Maybe four days max, if we head towards Route 6, and then go south."
Jackie nods, before tracing a quick route on her map. A second later, both our C-Gears bing, sharing the map between us. As I start to speak, my ItemFinder Ability alerts me to a nearby item, and I snatch a small candy that was stuck to the branch of a tree. Both Jessica and Jackie stare at me as I calmly place what I realize is a Rare Candy into my backpack.
"...Shall we?" I ask, motioning onward.
"Psychic I tell you…" Jessica whispers as we continue on.
We'd been walking for several more hours, enjoying nature, fighting a few random Pokemon as we went when I spotted something that tickled my memory.
"Jackie, you said you wanted a Snubbull, right?" I ask, as we break through some brush, and into a clearing.
Ahead of us, spotted just a few seconds before with my ability, are five Snubbul playing tag with each other. Jackie nearly screams in excitement, but I manage to stop her in time before she scares them off.
"Don't scare them!" I whisper, after I grabbed her arm. "They don't seem too strong, so you can probably catch one by surprise."
She nods, as Jessica and I do our best to hide out of sight. She grabs a Pokeball from her bag and begins to sneak forward.
"$20 Pokedollars she gets mauled by Snubbull," Jessica whispers once we're settled and able to watch.
I just shake my head at her antics and watch with anticipation. Out of the corner of my eye, I barely spot a floating name that appears and disappears several times. Normally that's because of distance, a Pokemon moving in and out of my range, but this one's name was close enough to signify something else entirely. I turn and read it, and my eyes open in shock. As Jessica whispers after me, I start crawling away, doing my best to move quickly, but quietly. Once I'm a bit away, so as not to scare the Snubbul, I get to my feet and take off running through the woods. I'd spotted something I'd always wanted, and my chance to snag a rare Pokemon wasn't to be missed.
The Pokemon in question had finally settled, and its floating name turned Blue, which from previous experience told me it was asleep. Another burst of good luck, it would seem, as I dodge around a tree, and find myself face-to-face with it. I consider for a moment trying to fight it, but the chance of it escaping was extremely high. Instead, I pull the Ultraball from my bag that I'd found in the brush a few days ago, expand it… aim…and launch it. The ball sails through the air, bouncing off of the sleeping Pokemon's face, before popping open and sucking it into the ball. It hits the ground…shakes once…twice…three times.
As the ball stops shaking, I can't help but jump into the air in exultance. "YES!" I cried out.
"There you are!" Jessica says, dragging Jacking behind her, around a copse of trees. "Where did you run off to?"
I snag the Ultraball from the ground, pressing it to my C-Gear to register it. For some reason, a name comes to me, a weird sense of Deja Vu as I finish typing it in. Once it's fully registered, I take the ball, press the button, and point it at the ground. A beam of red light pops out, solidifying into a medium-sized Pokemon, currently sleeping, and floating there.
"Say hello to Houdini," I say, introducing my new Abra.
Both girls stare at me for a moment before Jessica nearly explodes. "WHAT THE F-"
So…as it turns out, Abra was much rarer than even I expected. As recently as 5 years ago they were declared "Vulnerable", with fewer than 10,000 spotted in the wild since. After determining that I wouldn't get in legal trouble for catching it, however, I put the worry out of my head. I studied the sleeping Pokemon, so I could learn as much about him as I could. Abra was level 16, Naughty Nature, and I could see that he had 31IVs in HP, which gave him a 38HP stat. His ability was Inner Focus, but I couldn't for the life of my remember what that did.
'Maybe more critical hits?' I thought as I considered what I knew about Pokemon. 'I wish I could see my Pokemon's information like in the games.'
Pokemon Stats can be seen on the Stat Screen!
'...Stat Screen?' I thought, stunned.
The Stat Screen can be accessed by pointing your C-Gear at a Pokemon!
I blinked several times, before opening my C-Gear, and pointing it at my Abra.

'Oh. Oh my fucking god.' I thought, stunned. 'WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T YOU SAY ANYTHING EARLIER?!'
No answer came, and with the silence, my eye twitched.
"...H-hello? Earth to Billy?" Jackie says, grabbing my attention.
"Oh, sorry…I was…distracted?" I said sheepishly. 'I need to take a look at my other Pokemon, see if they have any moves I don't know about.'
"Yeah yeah, your Abra is awesome," Jessica says, giving me a look. "Let's get moving before the sun sets on us."
Nodding, I return Houdini to his Ultraball, securing it to my belt. "Oh, Jackie, did you get a Snubbull?"
She blushes, nods, and carefully covers a bite mark on her arm. I do her a favor and ignore it.
'Thankfully I didn't take that bet…'
A/N: Hello hello, boys and girls, and welcome back…to Pokemon: Nuzlocke. With Naruto finished, and Dragonball behind me, I've decided to bring this baby out of Hiatus, and back into action! I've cut back the stat tracking significantly, but you can expect the gamer antics to continue. This chapter is shorter than my usual fare, but only by a bit! Figured I should return a bit slowly, having not written anything major for Pokemon since FEBRUARY. Sorry for the long wait, had to get Dragonball out of the way so I could focus.
Until next time!
