Tris and Tobias move slowly down a street in the Factionless section. Tris was aching to speak to her mother, but she had to focus on the mission they were on. Part of her was nervous. This was her first big assignment, and she was excited her father selected her for this task. He believed in her. She was also nervous because she wanted to perform well.

"There" Tobias whispers and points to an alcove close to where there were people gathered. It was dark but they could still see in the moonlight. Thanks to Natalie's intel and Tris doing extensive research, they had mapped all of the buildings and knew where clusters of people gathered and the areas where the Factionless council gathered.

"This testing thing is going easier than I thought it would," A male voice says.

Tris moves slowly crouching down to see if she can get closer.

"Yeah, it's amazing what people will do for some extra food and handouts" Another male voice responds.

"How many today?"

"75"

"And how many tested for being divergent" A female voice interjects as more footsteps are heard.

Tris stiffens as she recognizes the voice. She looks over at Tobias who is focused on the conversation.

"32, but 12 or so of them were under 18"

"That's really good, I think Erudite is going to be pleased considering today was only the first day and we still have hundreds of people to test. It might take a few months to get all the testing done"

"When do we strike Evelyn, that's what I want to know. We've been waiting for so long. We have the weapons we need, we have the plan," The first male voice says with a hint of annoyance.

"All in good time, we have to get through the testing first…And those bastards in Abnegation will go down"

Evelyn laughs a hearty laugh. Of course, she wanted to take down Marcus and Andrew more than anything, but she wasn't going to settle for handouts and crumbs from Erudite either. She was going to take control.

Tobias feels his heart racing one minute and then the next a cold chill goes over his body as he listens to the woman talk. The voice was a distant memory, one he only heard in his dreams. Hearing it was like a bucket of cold water on him.

"That's what you want…" The second voice chuckles.

"And trust me, I'm going to enjoy taking over Abnegation, the first place I'm going to is the house where my bastard of a husband lives, and claim it as my own. All these years, I'm going to get what's owed to me"

Tris glances over at Tobias and even in the dark she can see his body stiffen as he listens. She doesn't know what to do but she doesn't want to draw attention to them. She holds her breath when he moves slowly to get a better view and her heart breaks knowing what he is doing.

"Natalie says you had a son; you plan on taking him out too?"

Evelyn is quiet for a minute. She wondered what her life would have been like if she knew her son, like Natalie had reconnected with her children. She quickly shakes off those thoughts, her Erudite upbringing kicking in. There was no logic in wishing things were different.

"I left everything behind when they threw me out of Abnegation. Besides my son is in Dauntless now. We'll have to deal with them at some point but for now, we need to keep focused on the task at hand"

Tobias doesn't know how he stops himself from rushing out and grabbing her. He wanted to scream and yell but all he could do was stand there like a statue.

"Come on, it's getting cold, let's go inside, I want to look over the plans for testing for the next few weeks. Erudite should be sending in more supplies soon"

When the group leaves, Tris and Tobias are still standing there frozen. Tris follows when Tobias starts walking, still in a daze. He doesn't say anything when they hop on the train and Tris sits close to him, letting him wrap his arms around her the entire ride.

"I'm sorry Tobias" she whispers.

When they finally reach Dauntless Tris presses him to talk.

"Tobias please say something...I know this must be a shock. She should have told you she was alive; my mother has tried to get her to tell you for so long"

Tobias stops dead in his tracks and turns to look at Tris.

"You knew?" His voice was shaky, and he felt cold.

Tris gasps... It was the truth though, there was no point in denying it but the look of pain in Tobias' eyes was something she was not prepared for.

"Tobias, let me explain!" Tris cries as Tobias turns away from her.

"No... I can't...I...stay away from me!" Tobias had never felt so alone in the world as he felt at that very moment. He felt like he couldn't breathe. He started walking, not really sure where he was going. He realizes after a minute he is walking towards the Pire and his apartment.

Tris is close on his heels. She'd never seen him so angry with her. She wasn't about to leave him alone like this, not after finding out his mother was alive. She felt horrible for not telling him.

"Tobias...Tobias...Please...Just will you slow down?" Tris cries practically running to keep up with his long strides.

Tobias doesn't say anything as they continue to climb the path. He takes the stairs and Tris still follows behind him. He doesn't look at her when they reach his apartment, and he unlocks the door. She pushes her way through, not letting him shut the door on her.

"Will you please talk to me?" Tris begs as she follows Tobias into his apartment shutting the door behind her. He hadn't uttered a word to her during the entire walk to his apartment.

This was killing her; She wanted to make it better for him, but she didn't know how.

"How long have you known Tris?" He turns around in front of the couch, the anger still boiling up inside him.

"Since I went to see my mom after we finished Initiation," Tris says quietly looking at her hands as she sinks down on the couch. "Evelyn was there arguing with my mom..."

She winces at the look in his eyes as she talks. It had been weeks; she should have told him; she had no excuse.

"Tris, how could you keep this from me? You've never kept things from me, we never lie to each other ever! "

Tris starts to tear up at the anguish in his voice.

"I didn't want to lie to you, I told her she needed to tell you herself…. I'm so sorry, I thought she was going to tell you if she didn't, but time just flew by and I don't know..., I swear, And I told her that I would, I just…I thought I was doing the right thing..." Tris was beside herself now.

Saying it out loud made her feel even worse. It didn't make sense why she didn't tell him. The truth was she had been too caught up in Lynn and the task force instead of doing right by her best friend. She felt completely ashamed.

"I can't do this right now, Tris, I think I need you to leave me alone" Tobias sighed, feeling even more defeated.

Tris looked at him, he just looked like he was giving up and she wasn't going to allow that. They had been through too much surviving the abuse of Marcus and Andrew. She was going to fix this. He meant too much to her.

"No, you are not going to just push me away! Tobias, you don't think I know how you feel!" Tris yells and moves to stand in front of him.

"No, you don't know how this feels Tris, you don't remember your mother, I do!" Tobias bellows back.

Tris winces at his tone as he runs his fingers through his hair in frustration as he paces back and forth in front of the couch. As the tears well in his eyes, as she realizes what he means.

"I remember her reading me stories before bed. Kissing me as she tucked the sheets in at night. I remember how she would hold my hand when we walked to the Community Hall every Sunday for service." he says in a quiet voice looking at the wall.

Tris feels her eyes start to well up as she sees the tears spill from Tobias's eyes. All the memories she made up about her mother, he actually had.

"How could she not find me, when she knows I remember? Why didn't she take me with her? She left me with him…"

"Tobias, I know you don't think I understand but I do…I'm sorry she hasn't made an effort..."

"I don't have anybody…no one wants me…no one loves me…there's got to be something wrong with me," he says, feeling like his heart is breaking. Tears fell from his eyes as he felt hopelessness that he had never felt before.

Tobias sits down on the couch with his head in his hands. He feels guilty for yelling at Tris but the person he wanted to yell at wasn't there. Even when he took his worst beatings from Marcus, Tris had always been there to help him. He didn't know how to feel knowing that she kept the information that his mother was alive from him. All he knows is that he feels completely alone and abandoned.

Tris wipes her own tears. Tobias had been through so much. She hated Evelyn now just as much as she hated Marcus and Andrew. She never laid a hand on Tobias but the damage she caused hurt him just as deeply. It makes Tris feel protective of Tobias, much like that night she stood up to Andrew.

"Don't ever say that…I love you Tobias, you're my best friend…I love you; do you hear me..." She declares fiercely and boldly.

Tobias scoffs and wipes his eyes. "No, you don't…. not like I love you…"

Tris stops and looks at him. All her feelings that she had been fighting bubbled to the surface. She loved him. She knew it deep down and no matter how much she tried to push those feelings away, she couldn't deny it anymore.

"Yes, I do, I love you, Tobias, I think I always have" There was no hesitation in her voice. Tris doesn't know what comes over her but all she can think about is wanting to comfort him.

She crawls into his lap and wraps her arms around him. He clings to her holding her tight, like he always wanted to do. He pulls back and looks at her, and he places his lips on hers. Tobias moans against her lips. He needed to feel something, and Tris was the only one he wanted to comfort him right now. He wanted to make love to her, the one who had been the constant in his life. The one he was in love with. The kiss was all-consuming, raw, and hungry. Tobias brings his hands to cup Tris' face. She doesn't miss a beat, returning the kiss and pressing herself closer to her.

It takes several minutes before she comes to her senses when they finally break apart for air. The only time she'd felt this was when they kissed before his Choosing Day.

"Tobias…." Tris gasps as she pulls away.

She doesn't know what came over her, letting him kiss her but her body was humming, and she was having a hard time thinking clearly.

"I need you, Tris, please…" Tobias begs as he runs his thumb over her bottom lip. As angry as he was with her, she was what he needed. She was his safe place, and he needed her comfort.

The energy between them was so strong that Tris could feel something pulling her to him, like a magnet as she looked at him. His eyes pleaded with her while his arms stayed strongly wrapped around her. This time when Tobias leans in to kiss her again, she doesn't pull away, surrendering to the kiss. Tris could feel her body all lit up and she moved to press herself closer to him, Forgetting everything outside of the apartment.

Tobias rises from the couch and Tris gasps at how strong he is as she wraps her legs around his waist and carries them into his bedroom. The moonlight casts a silvery light through the window and Tobias admires Tris as he sits her on the bed. He moves back so he can unlace her boots watching her intently as he moves slowly. Her chest heaves and her eyes are fixated on Tobias but still, she doesn't stop him.

Tris unbuttons her jeans and shimmies out of them as Tobias peels them down her legs. While he rids himself of his own boots, shirt, and pants she quickly removes her shirt and bra leaving her in only her panties. Tobias runs his hands up her legs slowly, he looks at her again as he stops at her panties. Tris nods again and Tobias pulls them down, tossing them into the pile of their clothes on the floor. When he removes his boxers, Tris can't stop her eyes from growing large as he springs free. He looked deliciously perfect. His chiseled muscles, the v cuts that showed how muscular he had become since training in Dauntless.

"Please..." Tris whispers as he hovers at her center, and she feels his breath tickling her.

He places soft kisses on her thighs moving tortuously slowly before finally letting himself taste her. Tris gasped and arched her back and Tobias moved slowly and steadily. The two lock eyes and Tris feels herself almost come apart. Even though his mouth was busy, the look in his eyes made her feel the most desired she had ever felt. When she finally lets go, she shutters and shakes while Tobias gently rubs her thighs and looks at her, loving the sight of her below him. He leans down to gently suckle one of her now hard nipples, taking his time and drawing out her pleasure.

Tris thought she was going to go insane. She had no idea how Tobias had become such a skilled lover but now the thought of him with another woman had her riled up. She grabs his head and pulls him to her mouth, kissing him with everything she has, wanting to brand him with her essence. Tobias happily returned her kiss with just as much fervor as their tongues mingled together.

He leans back on his haunches to admire her again. Much to his delight Tris doesn't shy away from his gaze. Tris too takes her fill of him again, committing every muscle to memory. Tobias pulls her by the legs to slide down causing her to squeal and smile. He slides into her slowly, inch by inch and he watches her the entire time. Tris gasps at the feeling of being stretched more than she ever had been with Lynn using her fingers. The discomfort only lasts for and minute and Tris gives in to the intensity of the moment again. Tobias grips the headboard with one hand as he makes slow but hard, powerful thrusts that cause Tris to cry out and tremble in pleasure. It was so much, the emotion, the intensity, Tris feels her orgasm building and she doesn't know why but tears start to fall.

"Am I hurting you?" Tobias asks concerned as he looks down at her.

"No, you feel so good. Don't stop," Tris says softly, and Tobias smiles and delivers another strong thrust that makes her gasp and grip him tighter.

"It's just it's so…I feel you" Her voice was trembling, and she was so close to the edge.

"I know, I feel it. I feel you too" Tobias admits knowing it was more than him being inside her. It was the special connection the two of them had.

"Tobias..." Tris moans out. Tobias captures her mouth. There was something about her calling out his real name, compared to Shauna calling him Four in bed. It reminded him that Tris was the only person who really knew him.

"I love you..." He whispers in her ear as he buries his head in the crook of her neck.

"I love you too..." She whispers back still overcome with emotion and clutching him tighter.

He rolls over so Tris can get on top. She moves back and forth with both her hands planted firmly on Tobias' chest.

"Oh God," She cries as Tobias surges up into her.

When Tris lets go, she feels his thrusts quicken as he surges up into her. It was the most overwhelming orgasm she had ever had as they both cried out together. As she slows her movements Tris is still shaking as she and Tobias catch their breath. He looks up at her lovingly and then sits up to hold her close, running his thumb over her bottom lip. Tris kisses him again, softly and sensually.

Eventually, Tris slides off him, and Tobias pulls the covers over them. She bites her lip as Tobias pulls her back to his chest kissing her shoulder softly as he settles into the bed. He murmurs "I love you" again before he falls fast asleep, still clinging to her.

Tris lays there, snuggled up against him as he sleeps. She'd gotten completely carried away. She had to go think, she couldn't think naked and pressed up against Tobias. She quietly untangled herself from him and got dressed, looking back as she crossed the room to see if Tobias was still asleep before she headed out the door.

When she's out of the apartment she puts her boots on and makes her way down to her apartment. Quickly undressing again, she gets in the shower. She lets the hot water wash over her. What did she just do? She slept with her best friend and cheated on her girlfriend….

"What the fuck am I doing?" she asks herself as she leans against the shower wall.

Tobias wakes the next morning and reaches to the other side of the bed. He sighs and sits up on one elbow when he realizes he's alone. It was as if all his feelings for Tris coupled with the emotion of finding out his mother was alive had overtaken him the night before. He still felt shaky about it. There was only one thing that stood out to him in his mind of jumbled emotions. There was no one he wanted more to comfort him than Tris. Everything about making love to her had been phenomenal. The way she whispered his name, the way she clung to him. He hadn't expected her to cry at their connection, but he had felt it too. Part of him was still upset with her for not telling him but after making love he realized that she didn't want to hurt him. She really did love him. This complicated things but he was hopeful. He loved her and he was going to get her to see that they belonged together.
