Chapter 8
Tony and Abigail entered his home and the house came alive. Windows and lights changed colors. The television turned on. Jarvis loaded all of Tony's preferences.
"Hello, Mr. Stark, Miss Stark." Jarvis said, greeting both of the Stark siblings as he always did when both siblings arrived there together.
"Hello, Jarvis." The siblings replied to the AI in unison.
"What can I do for you?"
"I need to build a better heart." Tony told the AI pursing his lips together.
"I'm not sure I follow, Sir."
Abigail bit her lip as she moved back away from Tony having a feeling that he was going to have Jarvis do a scan. She stuck her hands in her pockets chewing the inside of her cheeks as she rocked shyly back and forth on her feet as she waited for what Tony was about to say.
"Give me a scan and you'll see." Tony said as he removed his shirt and slowly went down the stairs to go to his lab.
Abigail slowly followed him down to the lab wanting to be at least close to Tony during this time.
Tony grabbed a pair of goggles slipping them on. He took a seat in the 3D laser scanner. The lasers played over him, mapping out his entire body.
Abigail bit her lip softly in concern.
"What were your intentions for this device?"
Terabytes of data raced past his head as he looked at him. "It powers an electromagnet which
keeps the shrapnel from entering my heart. Can you recommend any upgrades?"
"It is difficult to offer counsel in light of the fact that your stated intentions are inconsistent with
your actions."
Tony's chest device was magnified. Its various components flashing as Jarvis analyzed them.
"What are you talking about? That is ridiculous. That is exactly the purpose of this invention." Tony complained to Jarvis.
Abigail let out a breath and shook her head lightly. Of course Tony would start yelling at Jarvis about something and Jarvis would of course bite back in with a quippy comment.
The monitors went deeper and deeper through the strata of Tony's device. It was like a city unto itself.
"The energy yield of this device outperforms your stated intention by eleven orders of magnitude. You could accomplish your stated goal with the power output of a car battery."
Tony stepped from the booth all around him and the calculations flashed at blinding speed. "Upgrade recommendations. List."
"Why are you talking to me like a computer?"
"Because you are acting like one."
"Shall I disable random pattern conversation?"
"No. It's ok. You are the only one who understands me. Besides Abigail." He said looking back at his little sister.
Abigail forced a small smile on her lips. Of course she understood Tony just because of all his antics made things hard. But she would always be at his back to back him up no matter what he would do. It was something that siblings would do. He had her back and she had his.
"I don't understand you sir."
"Were you always this dry? I remember you having more personality than this."
"Should I activate sarcasm harmonics?"
"Fine. Could you please make your recommendations now?"
"It would thrill me to no end."
"Ahh that's more like it."
Abigail let out a soft chuckle shaking her head lightly.
"Should I begin machining the parts?"
"Machine away."
Abigail sat down and watched Tony with a soft look on her face. She was kind of happy to see Tony working again. It was a sight that she loved seeing. It made her glad to know that her brother was back and changing his path. She could only hope that he wasn't going to work himself to death. "Tony."
"Yes?"
"Did you want me to take care of things at the office until you're ready again?" She asked softly hoping that he would say yes to her taking care of the company while he was away.
"Obi has everything under control." Tony said looking over at his sister giving her a soft smile.
Abigail took a shaky breath. "You sure?" She was worried that Obi was going to do something wrong while running the company.
"Abs you should be in college studying…"
Abigail bit her lip softly knowing that he didn't know that she had taken time off. "I'm off for the time being."
Tony looked up at her a look of concern was on his face. "You're not in college?"
Abigail shook her head lightly. "No… I ran the company while you were gone…"
Tony took a sharp breath. "I know you didn't like us making weapons." He said looking at her with a sad look in his eyes. He was afraid to see the look in her eyes of stating that they were only a weapons company.
Abigail nodded her head weakly. "Yes… and now you're changing your path…" She said looking up at him offering him a small smile.
Tony nodded his head firmly.
"And the arc reactor… is a very good choice. And I'm here to help." Abigail said, moving closer to her brother and draping her arm over his shoulder.
Tony nodded his head knowing that his sister would be more than happy to help. He patted her arm lightly with his good hand.
Abigail looked over at her brother with a coy smile on her lips. "Shall we begin working?"
Tony let out a soft chuckle knowing that his sister was ready to get started in working and creating a new heart for Tony. "Alright alright let's get to work."
Abigail gave her brother a cheeky smile and moved away from him. She couldn't wait to see what they would get to work on.
