One Week Ago
That stupid Shinigami! He can't even stick around to see the hard work and dedication he puts into making this world a better place. He's judged and eradicated all those criminals from this world. Even now, as he looks down on his kingdom, he sees glimmers of the world he will build, full of hardworking and righteous people that he's judged to be fit. Above all, he will reign as a God, ensuring his world will last for the next millennia to come.
He can imagine it now, sitting on his throne, the love of his life by his side because, of course, they too, believe in him and his paradise. He can't wait to approach them and reveal everything as they're safely tucked into his arms. He hated being parted for so long, but Mikami was protecting him, the only thing that bastard was good at. Failing to get the name of that stalker following his love, then almost ruining Kira's perfectly crafted reputation by killing those three police officers. If Mikami weren't important to his family, he would've happily struck him down for those failures. If Mikami fails again, he will. His phone buzzed, and he reluctantly pulled it from his pocket. Mikami, what did he want now? They weren't meant to be talking to each other.
"This better be good," he said as he asked the phone.
"You need to watch Sakura TV," Mikami said. What? Why would he look at that crappy network, "Kira's broadcasting a message to the world."
"I did no such thing," he said, ending the call. He turned on his TV, grabbed his remote, switched over to Sakura TV, and dropped it back onto his desk. His anger boiled at the sight of a fake using his name!
"I am Kira. If this video is being aired on April 18th, at exactly 5:59 p.m., as I requested, then the time now is 5:59. 47, 48, 49, please change the channel to Taiyo TV. The news anchor, Mr Kazuhiko Hibima, would die of a heart attack at exactly 6 o'clock," this fake Kira said. He grabbed his TV remote and quickly changed the channel to Taiyo TV to find the news anchor slumped over on the desk. He changed it back, "Mr Hibima has consistently referred to Kira as 'evil' in his news reports. This was his punishment."
"But one demonstration alone does not serve as absolute proof. I will present you with another victim. My new target is NHN TV commentator Mr Seiji Komaizumi, who's scheduled to appear on a live broadcast. He too, has dared to defy Kira," the fake continued. He changed to channel 24 to find the man dead. He changed the channel back, interested in what this fake planned, but also horrified by their victim selection. Then again, is a man who condemns the good work Kira does, really innocent.
"Now that you've seen proof of my powers, you should have no trouble believing that I am Kira. People of the world, please listen to me. The last thing I want to do is kill the innocent. I hate evil and love justice. I've always thought of the police as allies, not as enemies. I intend to create a new world. A perfect world that is free from evil. If you agree to join me in my mission, I know we can make it happen. And as long as no one tries to catch me, I promise the innocent will not die." the fake said. This fake doesn't understand Kira's message. He's dragging down his image with this! Sending videos to Sakura TV and killing those who weren't criminals could send the wrong message.
"Even if you disagree with me, I only ask that you not publicise your views in the media. If you can do that, you will be spared. All you have to do now is be patient. I'll create a better world that we can all enjoy. Say goodbye to the world as you know it. Soon, we'll have a new world brought by benevolence and inhabited by kind-hearted, honest people." the fake said. No! This fake wasn't allowed to create a better world; that was his mission! His alone! His hard work has led to crime rates dropping and people finally feeling safe, and this fake will not take this away from him. They will not take his love from him.
This fake better watch their backs because the second they're not looking, he'll eliminate them for tarnishing his reputation. There was only one Kira on this earth, and that was him. He didn't care if other Shinigami dropped their notebooks, so they weren't as bored as the Shinigami he's cursed with. They weren't allowed into his game. He'll show the world just what happens to those who dare to defy the true Kira.
Present Day
Ever since the first message from the fake Kira was broadcast on Sakura TV (even if it was shut down before they could hear the whole thing, a blessing in disguise from a Kira supportive, he was sure of), he's been monitoring the channel to see what the fake will do next. They'd been quiet, planning their next move and whilst he'd been tempted to make his own video rebutting what they said and shunning them for taking his name and reputation. He decided against it. He'll wait to see what they'd do before he does anything drastic. Be patient; he'll be rewarded for it, and he was rewarded for it. Setting up an alert for Sakura TV had finally announced something interesting; the amount of crap they air daily makes him wonder how they stay in business, but that didn't matter right now: the fake was broadcasting a new message.
"I released a message as Kira on April 18th at 6 pm. However, I am not the original; the first Kira still walks among us. I once believed in Kira's new world, but I have had my eyes opened to the horror my actions have caused. The deaths were wrong, and I apologise for killing people for their opinion and not for a horrendous crime they never committed. We live in a world overrun by crime, and whilst I believe we should make this world a better place, using this power wasn't the right way to go and condemning the innocent to live their lives through fear isn't the paradise I seek. I cannot take back my actions and will spend the rest of my life wishing I did this differently. Thank you to my anonymous hero who risked their life to save others. I have learnt so much in my short time as a Second Kira, but I leave you all with a message: I want to warn people that following Kira and praising his actions is wrong, killing is wrong, and to save yourself, please keep far away from him. Your life is more important than some belief. I hate that it took these horrible actions for me to see it," The fake Kira said, "I have passed my power onto someone I believe will take good care of it. They will not use it for evil, and it may be selfish of me to run from this power and burden someone else with it. I know I am not strong enough to resist its temptation, and for the sake of our world and everyone inhabiting it, it's safer out of my hands."
How dare they! How dare they turn their back on him, his world, his mission. Don't they know who he is! He's Kira, the god of this world! He's their judge, jury and executioner. His power was handed to him by a God of Death because fate knew his path would lead to greatness. He's no longer the puny little wimp hiding behind others; he's in charge, he's in control of this world. Everyone worships him, everyone fears him, and this fake is nothing more than a pathetic and weak creature whose backbone has long shrivelled up and died. The first sign of danger, of the sacrifice needed to make, they scurried away like the cockroaches they were. Hiding under a rock because they couldn't cope with getting their hands dirty, their minuscule kill count was nothing compared to his. Thousands of lives had been exterminated from this desolate rock to make way for the paradise he would build, and this fake didn't deserve to be a part of it. They aren't privy to witness the greatness that will come. They will burn in the inferno Kira will unleash upon this world, and his kingdom will be born from the flames rising above the unworthy as they suffocate in smoke. He will take his place as the ruler he is, and nothing, not L, not the police, or some fake, will get in his way. This world will learn what will happen when you mess with their overlord.
The past week had been a struggle. Even with Raye's help, they haven't found any leads to finding Kira. Light was starting to run out of ideas, which wasn't good. He hadn't had another vision, which was putting him on edge, expecting the next one to hit anytime soon, especially as he doesn't need to sleep to have one.
They'd started from the beginning, looking for something they might've missed after Light saved Raye's life, but that's when they hit a brick wall because no matter how much they looked at the bus jacking, they couldn't figure out why Kira would risk revealing himself to someone and getting them to take a piece of the death note and his Shinigami. It might've been riskier, but it was still safer for Kira to be there. Something about that bus jacking wasn't right; it brought in Teru Mikami, a seemingly decent but antisocial prosecutor who spends more time at work and has no friends or family to talk to. There's no one to link him to Kira. Yet, he had the death note; he had Kira's Shinigami Ryuk, and whilst initially, Light thought Ryuk was there to ensure nothing went wrong, he now knows the Shinigami. He is only there for the entertainment it brings him.
Light groaned as he rubbed his fingers against his temple, god his head hurt. He feels like he's missing something obvious, but no matter how much he looks at it, he can't see what he's missing.
"Maybe we should take a break. We're not getting anywhere," Naomi said, scooping up their many pieces of paper with theories, evidence, or information when they heard a knock at the apartment's door. All three tensed as they slowly turned to look at the door. They weren't expecting anyone, and no one in Naomi's family knew she was still in Japan for them to come over unannounced.
"Naomi Misora, Raye Penber. NPA open up." That's his father's voice. How did they find him? Wait, did they know he was here? They didn't say his name?
"I'm coming," Naomi said. Light looked at her. What is she doing? Naomi shot up from her seat, all their work bundled into her arms. She motioned to Raye before hurrying quietly to their bedroom. Raye took one look at him before picking him up and throwing Light over his shoulder. Light barely suppressed his surprise before finding himself dropped onto Naomi and Raye's bed beside their material and shut inside.
"Can I help you?" Light heard Naomi say when she opened the apartment door. Light stayed frozen on the bed as he listened; even through the closed door, he heard everything so clearly, like he was in the room with them. It was unnerving.
"May we come in?" his father said. Naomi must've agreed because Light heard four sets of footsteps enter the apartment. Using their sound as cover, he quietly stood up from the bed, carefully walked to the door, and pressed his ear up against it. He wouldn't risk opening the door just yet; he would wait until their guard was down and they were not paying attention to their surroundings.
"How can we help you?" Raye said this time.
"We received word from the director of the FBI that you had left your safe house and returned to Japan," his father said. They must have tracked them down through Raye.
"Are you sending me back to America?" Raye said. Dammit, Raye shouldn't have come back in the first place; it would've been safer that way.
"You believed you encountered Kira. Your fiancee happened to stay in Japan after you were withdrawn, and now you have returned. You, or more specifically, Misora, were investigating Kira, weren't you?" an unfamiliar voice said. Light frowned. Who was that? Light resisted the urge to open the door and have a peak; it would still be early.
"And you are?" Raye said.
"It's you, isn't it," Naomi said, "You look just like him, besides the red eyes. You're L."
Hot guy was out there! Wait, no! He really can't think of L like that; the man had sent him to his death. Brain, get your priorities straight. He could easily blow that he was here if he opened the door, but he needed to see. Light, as quietly as he could, slowly lowered down the door handle and opened the bedroom door so the gap was wide enough that Light could peer through, but hopefully, it was not big enough that someone noticed him. Naomi and Raye stood beside each other with his father and hot… no L opposite them with two others behind them.
"Yes. I am L."
"Why are you here?" Naomi said.
"To officially invite you into the Kira Task Force, I suspect that you have been investigating Kira alone, and I believe with your help, we will be one step closer to catching Kira," L said. What should they do? They couldn't really say no because they had no reason not to without revealing to L that he was there. Still, he trusted that neither Raye nor Naomi would say anything. God, he wished they had more time; they'd been so focused on finding Kira that they hadn't planned what to do if L found them. How could he be so stupid?! It's like his mind has been pulled in five million different directions with basic things slipping past him, like making sure they had a plan to deal with L and then five different backup plans just in case.
"What makes you believe we're investigating the Kira Case," Raye said. They really shouldn't keep stalling because then it will look like they're trying to hide something. What should they do? They couldn't send their only link to L away because deep down, and as much as Light hated to admit it, they needed L's help. L moved closer whilst another detective moved their head, surveying the room.
Light quickly yet quietly closed the door and crept back to the bed. Carefully lowering his weight onto the mattress and lying down. He still heard Raye, Naomi and L's conversation but pushed it to one side. He needed to think. There was so much about this case that Light needed to think about, especially if he was going to share the finer details with L, such as the death note, Shinigamis, Rem and Ryuk or the Second Kira, and even Light himself. He can only suspect that L has been trying to track him down since he broke out of his prison cell, and it's likely he knows Light went to Sakura TV and took the tapes; he noticed the security camera near the side door on his way out. Everything was happening faster than Light liked it. He hated feeling like he was losing control, but he couldn't let that affect him. He needs to focus on everything happening right now, which was L.
"Light. I don't understand humans and what makes them do what they do, but I do understand from what I've seen with you and Misa that Kira is someone who needs to be stopped before the power of the Death Note corrupts them completely. If this L person can help you achieve that, and if you are worried about revealing my existence and the death note, I give you my permission. You understand this world better; you know what needs to happen to protect it," Rem said. Light sighed. Rem was right. He knew what needed to happen; he'd always known deep down that he'd never really avoid L, not when they all worked towards tracking down Kira and now… now it's time to stop hiding. Light stood up, taking a deep breath; he walked to the bedroom door, his hand on the door handle. It was now or never.
"L, whilst we appreciate that…" Raye started. Light slowly opened the door. Naomi looked at him, confused.
"We'll join the task force," Light said. Five heads snapped over to him. He ignored his father as he walked over and stood beside Naomi and Raye, his attention trained solely on L. "We'll tell you everything we've found under one condition."
"Condition!" his father said, "After everything you've put me through, you have no right to bargain your conditions. You will tell me everything, and then you'll be lucky we don't charge you for obstructing our investigation!"
"Light Yagami," L said, both ignoring his father, "What is your condition?"
"That how Kira kills is not revealed to other agencies and the public," Light said.
"Ryuzaki! You can't seriously be listening to this!" his father said, but again, they ignored him.
"Explain your condition," L said. Light felt Naomi's hand on his shoulder. He could do this.
"We can all agree that Kira is dangerous, and the power he has to kill criminals without being there is something people would want to study and understand how it works, but the truth is that power is dangerous, and being in the hands of any agency that could be tempted to use it is too risky to hand over that knowledge," Light said. No one can find out about the Death Note.
"You don't trust policing agencies?" L said. Light tried not to laugh.
"Would you?" Light said. A small smile graced L's lips.
"No," another voice said. They all turned to the detective standing by the door, who flushed red when he noticed the sudden attention on him. Light looked above his head - Totua Matsuda.
"Care to explain, Matsui," his father said through gritted teeth, and Light felt bad for him. It was clear he hadn't meant to say it out loud. Matsuda looked young, probably fresh from the police academy, and was still finding his feet in the NPA when Kira happened. He must be desperate to prove himself to still be here when many more experienced detectives quit the case.
"Um…" Matsuda said. Light watched his father get more irritated as the detective struggled to find the right words.
"Because of the Second Kira, right," Light said, hoping to prompt the detective.
"Uh, yeah. The second Kira somehow got the same power as Kira and was easily tempted into using it to kill criminals even if they were only active for a short period of time and came to regret their actions. If there is something about this power that compels a person to use it once, then it could be dangerous to pass it to another agency in case this lure affects them," Matsuda said. L stared at the other detective before nodding his head and looking back at Light.
"I accept your condition. Only those on the task force and yourselves will know how Kira kills," L said. It had to be good enough. Light nodded and moved to the small kitchen. He felt everyone's eyes on him as he knelt down and carefully pulled up a loose floorboard; inside the hole was the Death Note. Only Light knew where he had hidden, and both Naomi and Raye believed it was safer for themselves if the only person immune to its power could find it. Light reached down, grabbed hold of the Death Note and pulled it out before securing the loose floorboard back in place. He stood up, his arms wrapped around the notebook, cradling it to his chest as he returned to L and the others.
"Dealing with Kira, you must open your mind to the impossible. Killing certain people via heart attacks whilst you're not in the room shouldn't be possible, but now we living in a world where the impossible is the new probable. I want you to understand something first, people online talk about how Kira was chosen to bring about his new world, but in actual fact, Kira gaining this power wasn't fate or destiny; it was chance. This power was dropped into our world, and he happened to be the person who found it. He was in the right spot, at the right time, nothing else," Light said because it was vital that they understand just what they were dealing with before Light gave them the Death Note and revealed Rem and Shinigamis to them.
"There's something else that we don't know about, isn't there," Matsuda said. Light looked at the detective and nodded his head.
"Yes, Matsuda," Light said because there was no point hiding now.
"Y-you know my name!" Matsuda said, shocked. Aizawa looked uncomfortable whilst his father's clenched fists shook with rage.
"I know everyone's name," Light said, ignoring Raye's snort. Light unfolded his arms, holding the Death Note in his hand before holding it out to L. "This was the Second Kira's power."
L took the Death Note and opened it up, scanning the names written inside it. Misa's death note didn't have the rules written inside, so at the moment, it looks like the Second Kira kept notes on the people they killed.
"It's called a Death Note," Light said as L looked back at him. The detective went to say something when his eyes noticed the large creature standing behind Light. His mouth dropped in surprise, "This is Rem."
"Stop this!" his father said, snatching the notebook from L's hands and throwing it to the floor. This is serious. I thought I raised you better than this! This is the Kira Case, but you're treating this as a game when people's lives are at stake!"
"Light, I understand this investigation better than you do, little man," Rem said. She moved from behind him to stand before him, not completely blocking his view of the others but enough that if anyone went for him, she could block them. Light watched as his father finally saw Rem, his eyes widening in horror as he moved back, nearly hitting Aizawa to get away from her.
"Like I said, this is Rem and this," Light started as he bent down and picked up the Death Note, "Is a Death Note. You write a person's name in the notebook whilst picturing their face in your head, and they will die."
"What is that thing?" his father said, pointing his finger at Rem.
"She's not a thing, Rem's a shinigami," Light said. He moved past Rem and held the notebook out to Aizawa and Matsuda, "If you touch the notebook, you can see her."
They both did, Aizawa more reluctant than Matsuda. Light watched as the two detectives took in the Shinigami, Aizawa's face turning pale, while Matsuda seemed more fascinated than scared of her.
"Kira received his death note from another Shinigami, who dropped theirs into this world. From what I have seen, Kira does not care for the lives he has taken and will not stop unless he is made to. I have seen this happen with the Second Kira. They were so driven by their mission that slowly, they would start crossing their boundaries," Rem said.
"So even if Kira started with good intentions, his ideology and consciousness will warp. Soon, he won't care about protecting innocent people and will kill anyone that he considers has betrayed him," Light said. Let's not forget that the longer Kira is free, the longer Light will be plagued with those dreams, but for now, he'll focus on the Death Note and keep his situation a secret.
"I understand. There must be more that you have uncovered in your investigation, having an advantage over us, but now might not be the right time to discuss everything. I have a secure compound where I have moved our investigation. You will be safe in those walls and have access to everything we've discovered about Kira," L said. Light didn't like the idea of leaving this apartment; it had been his safe place for the last few months, and going to another unknown location didn't seem safe. Still, there wasn't much Light could say without revealing his past. Sensing his apprehension, L added, "You are, of course, welcome to leave headquarters to return here during the night. I only ask for any information gathered to be kept at headquarters."
"That would be wonderful, thank you, L," Naomi said, standing beside Light.
"I do ask for you to call me Ryuzaki for my own safety," L said. Light nodded and didn't say anything, but he did find it amusing that the detective who hid behind the letter 'L' was, in fact, his first name.
"Of course, Ryuzaki," Light said. L soon announced that they would be leaving for headquarters, giving Raye, Naomi and Light enough time to collect anything significant to the case before being led out of the apartment complex. A limousine waited outside with tinted windows, and an elderly man got out of the driver's seat and opened the door. Light recognised him from the prison; it was the man he accidentally knocked out and used his keycard to escape. They all sat in silence, his father staring at him whilst Light sat between Raye and Naomi, looking down at his lap. Light felt his phone buzz in his pocket, and the noise echoed through the car, showing how quiet it was.
Light pulled his phone from his pocket to see that Misa had messaged him.
Misa-Misa:
I've arrived in America!
Light:
Misa, it doesn't take nearly two weeks to get to America.
Misa-Misa:
I was travelling! You know, seeing the world.
I'm sure it's harder to track me down if people can't figure out where I am and where I've been!
Light:
Misa!
Misa-Misa:
What! I've had fun. Do you know what having fun is, Mr Yagami!
Anyway, have you heard anything from Kira? I've been keeping off the news.
Light:
There's been nothing from him, which is good, but I don't think he'll accept someone turning their back on this power and his utopia, so be careful.
Misa-Misa:
Aww, I knew you loved me! Don't worry; I'm super safe. No one can get to me if I don't want them to, and I still have my eyes, so if Kira does somehow find me, I'll know who they are before they can do anything.
Stay safe, too! I know you're immune to the death note, but you can still get hurt.
Light:
I'm safe, Misa. Rem is protecting me just like you asked of her.
Misa-Misa:
Good!
"Someone important, Light," L said. Light looked up from his phone at the detective; he sat in a crouched position, which couldn't be comfortable.
"The Second Kira," Light said. There was no point hiding who he was messaging while keeping her identity to himself for now. He wouldn't tell them unless they promised to protect Misa.
"You're talking to a murderer!" his father said loudly, making Matsuda jump before he lunged across at Light, reaching for his phone. Raye and Naomi quickly blocked him, so Light pocked his phone. He'll message Misa later. Naomi and Raye pushed his father back into his seat and sat up straight, ready for if he lunged at them again.
"The Second Kira was lured into using the Death Note; their ideals lined up with Kira's only because the justice system failed them. The man who killed their parents was released because of circumstantial evidence, the same system you preach to be righteous," Light said. Misa wasn't at fault for turning to the Death Note; she didn't want people to suffer like she had, and Light's lucky he was able to snap Misa out of the Death Note's corruption before it became too late for her.
"You're using gender-neutral pronouns to protect the Second Kira's identity," L said.
"I don't trust you not to execute them for something they couldn't control," Light said, "You don't understand the Death Note like I do. They weren't at fault; yes, they took the lives of four people, but that compared to Kira is nothing."
"We would never execute an innocent person," L said. Light couldn't stop himself from snorting.
"Yeah, right," he said to himself. The rest of the drive was tense, but no one tried to make conversation. Light felt Raye and Naomi's worried gazes, but he kept his eyes trained on the floor. Eventually, the car stopped, and L climbed out, followed by the three task force members, then Light, Naomi, and Raye. They were brought into a car park with only five other cars, and one Light recognised that belonged to his father.
"Please follow me," L said. One by one, they passed through L's intense security system before being let into the building; they came up in an elevator to a large room with two sets of stairs on either side and a large desk of computers with multiple screens on the wall. "This is where the task force works. This building has twenty-three floors aboveground and two floors belowground and can accommodate sixty people; there is also a helipad on the roof. As I said, you are welcome to leave here for the night, but I will provide a room you can use when you are here. Watari will escort you to them when you are ready. Return to this room, and we will discuss the case."
The elderly man from earlier appeared and beckoned for Raye, Light and Naomi to follow him. They walked up the stairs to a secondary elevator and went inside.
"Your rooms will be located on the fourteenth floor; if there is something you require for your room, then please come see me, and I will sort it out," Watari said. Light nodded, unsure what to say. When L said they had a secure headquarters, Light was expecting a small building with a high-tech security system, not a massive skyscraper filled with more empty space than people who could fill it.
"Thank you, Watari," Light said as they exited the elevator.
"There are a total of five rooms on this floor, with a kitchen and living room at the end of the hallway; please make yourself comfortable," Watari said. He hadn't left the elevator. Raye and Naomi poked their heads into each room whilst Light returned to Watari.
"Thank you again, and I'm sorry for knocking you unconscious and stealing your keycard," Light said because apologising was the right thing to do if he was going to work with this man from now on.
"Don't apologise," Watari said, a small mischievous smile gracing his lips, "I was impressed you were able to knock me unconscious; not many people can do that."
The elevator doors closed, and Light returned to Raye and Naomi. They were still investigating this place. Light shook his head at them before opening a random bedroom and heading inside. In the centre of the room was a large king-sized bed because, of course, there was. Light dropped his bag onto the floor and headed towards it.
Then he was in his living room; it was worse than the last time he was here. The beer cans had tripled, so had the dirty plates, and now there were empty take-out boxes on the floor with food inside, which was covered in mould. The walls were stained, and the little bits of floor he could see were black. The smell of something rotting hit his nose, and Light gagged at it. He looked around for the cause, and his eyes fell on his father; his body had gone past the first stages of decomposition and looked like a mummified corpse. His father had died months ago, and no one cared enough to check up on him.
Staring at his body, Light felt nothing. He wasn't overcome with grief or upset that the man who 'raised' him was gone. If anything, he felt relief. Relief that the man who arrested him, the man who pushed Sayu to her death and the man who abused his mother was gone. All this had shown him was that his father was an awful person and everyone was better without him. Even now, after everything, no one cared for Soichiro Yagami, not now, not ever.
The world will soon feel Kira's wrath! They will understand the consequences of defacing Kira's name and reputation like this. They will all learn! He turned on his TV, switching to Sakura TV. He felt it was right to use that worthless platform to prove his point, and unfortunately, Sakura TV was the only network that'd broadcast his message without giving it to the police first, like they could prevent his truth from coming out.
Yes, everything was perfect. A row of reporters and news presenters sat at a long table, the director of Sakura TV being among them with the TV screen behind them saying, 'A message for the Real Kira.' The one presenter held a sheet of paper and read off the words he ordered them to say.
"This is a message to the world. We at Sakura TV have been blessed to receive a tape from the real Kira. We understand that only a week ago, we aired a video from a fake who used Kira's name and couldn't handle the consequences that came with it. We first apologise to the world for daring to show a video like that so that people could believe and see their god, only to be disappointed in the lack of their actions later on. Yesterday, we received an envelope containing three video tapes addressed to one of our directors; the first tape gave us instructions along with names of criminals who would die that day and exactly as stated, four men died yesterday of heart attacks," the presenter said. Good, they were sticking to his instructions; everything should go on without an issue.
"The video instructed us to play the second video at exactly seven-thirty, and once it ends, we are to open this sealed envelope," the presenter said before cutting away to an envelope, showing that they hadn't opened it. Good, that would ruin the fun if they knew what would come. "Then, we will play the final video after that letter."
"The time is 7:29. We will now play Kira's video." The screen changed. He had copied the fakes' video image to take back from them what they had tried to take from him.
"I am Kira. The true Kira, not the fake that appeared on Sakura TV a week ago, the same fake who claimed to help achieve my goals but got cold feet, not a week after their message. It is my mission to make this world a better place for those I judge fit enough to live in it; those who look down and belittle my vision of a better world have no place in it. I see support from people, and I thank you for believing in me. I will create a new world for us all to enjoy in the ashes of this one. For those who continue to commit crimes against me, understand that your judgment is coming. I will crucify those who turn their back on my paradise and those whose mission is to hunt me down and destroy the world we all strive to create." He closed his eyes and let his message wash over him.
"Then your wrecking is soon. I will not tolerate anyone who helps my enemies, including this fake. Your place in paradise is now smoke in your hands, and when I find you, I will. I will show the world the extent of my power, and nothing will stop me." He opened his eyes as the screen went black before transitioning back to the panel of presenters and reporters.
"And now we will read this letter," the presenter said, picking up the letter before carefully opening it and starting to read.
"Now you have heard my message, and I want to show the world what I do with heretics. If I cannot yet execute the fake, I will punish those who help them spread their propaganda to the world. People of the world, watch as I punish everyone apart of Sakura TV, their..." the reporter stopped, his eyes widening in terror as his punishment sunk in, "deaths w-will herald in a new world."
And on time, one by one, each reporter, presenter, camera person, and sound engineer. Anyone and everyone who worked for that infernal company clutched their chests at the tightness around their hearts before they dropped, some on the floor and others on the table. Kira laughed at seeing all his victims laying waste on the screen. The screen changed back to his video.
"Now, you should understand my power and the lengths I will go to get what I want. It is the time for war; it is time for this world to burn until all my enemies burn. Criminals are no longer my only target, but anyone who disagrees with my vision will die until no one remains. The fake, L and anyone who stands in my way will be destroyed." His video ended. The endless time of Kira was born!
