Chapter 4

PT felt on top of the world, beaming to herself as she walked back from her first class. Being praised by such a strict and serious Professor served as a much needed confidence booster for the introverted girl. The Battle Course Major finished wrapping her long brown hair into a ponytail, unlocking her dorm room and entering.

"Done for the day?" Anias Delgado asked, wrapping her fanny pack around her waist. The two were roommates, both getting along quite well due to both being the quiet types. Anias was a seventeen year old sophmore from the Johto region, standing at a height of 5'9. Like the majority of the Academy, she wore a red armband, signifying her commitment to the Battle Course. The girl was slightly muscular due to staying in shape, often putting a few guys to shame at being stronger than them. Anias had a husky voice that commonly earned a few laughs directed towards her. However, a death stare from her usually puts an end to them.

The sophomore had medium black length hair, with caramel brown skin to compliment her dark brown eyes.

"Nope, just finished my first class. I have an hour break though before my next. Probably going to watch some anime in the meantime." Penny said in a reserved but comfortable voice, having known Anias for a few days now.

Anias laughed at this, before grabbing PT's arm and dragging her with her. PT yelped in surprise as she was dragged to the door.

"That's so boringggg. Cmon, let's go shop at the Campus store. I bet they have some decent clothes there." Anias argued, not really taking an answer as Penny groaned audibly, knowing she didn't have much of a choice.

The two exited the dorm building, immediately greeted by the sun harshly shining. While it was showing clearly, there was also a refreshing breeze that didn't make the climate feel too hot.

"How was your first class?" Anias asked, the two walking on the concrete sidewalk. The duo were dead smack in the middle of the Academy, seeing plenty of advanced buildings, lamp posts, and neatly kept artificial grass that many students were currently laying on during their free time.

"It went very well actually. I think I made a good impression on the Professor, so that's good. How was your first class?"

Anias brushed a few stray strands of hair from her eyes, before replying. "Boring and easy. It better ramp up or else this Academy is a joke." The brunette stated seriously, with PT glancing away from the girl as they reached the campus store.

Calling it anything less than a massive shopping store would be an understatement. Glass panels covered the wide store, bearing similarities to a shopping mall. Seriously, the budget this Academy has must be absurd, Penny thought.

The two entered the vast store, with Penny quickly following her friend's lead.

"I'm sure it will, it's the first day anyways." PT told her roommate, who shrugged her shoulders as she lifted a black hoodie from one of the racks.

"Yeah, you're right. Hey, this one looks pretty nice. Are you planning on getting anything?"

"Umm, I don't think so." The shorter girl answered, glancing around the store and seeing plenty of other students passing through. It was a little unnerving, as she wasn't the most sociable person. Her eyes suddenly caught a familiar face from her first class.

What was his name? Mike?

PT continued to unconsciously stare at the built, black haired teenager, who was currently trying to find the price tag for a red and black jacket.

"Find something you like? Or rather, someone?" The taller girl teased, wanting to make PT feel as uncomfortable as possible. She frowned, however, as PT didn't even blush while shaking her head.

"Just someone I recognize from class. I don't even remember his name. I think it was Mike?" PT asked herself, before turning away from the boy to look around the store. She was ready to walk away, until she cried in fear when hearing her roommate yell rudely.

"Yo dude! Yeah, you with the bad boy look!" Anias shouted, making PT reach up and attempt to cover her mouth.

Miles looked at the two teenage girls, before pointing back to himself in confusion. PT looked at the floor in embarrassment, rather than Anias, who simply sighed and flopped her arms to the side before nodding exasperatedly.

Miles walked a few feet towards the duo, rubbing the back of his head. "Uh, yeah?"

PT finally looked up, forcing a smile as she spoke. "I am so so sorry. I recognized you from the first period and my friend here thought it would be a funny idea to embarrass me. You're Mike, right?"

Miles laughed, showing off his straight white teeth. "Miles, but close enough. You go by PT? Way to impress Professor Moore. That was something else."

Penny avoided eye contact due to the praise, thanking the boy. "Thanks, and yeah you can call me PT. It's nice to meet you. This is my roommate Anias by the way."

"Nice to meet you both." Miles respectfully stated, crossing his arms comfortably. "Is it just me, or does Professor Moore have it out for me?"

Anias frowned, her plan of embarrassing her roommate quickly backfiring as she was left out of the conversation. PT looked comfortable, most likely due to having a friend with her as she met a new person from Champions Academy. Miles also appeared to be a respectful and kind guy, despite his "bad boy look" as Anias had previously described.

PT laughed for a second, before replying honestly. "Yeah, I kind of got that vibe too. I don't think it's too bad though. You could tell he liked your answer, even if it wasn't what he was looking for."

Miles shook his head in frustration, not knowing what caused his teacher's clear dislike towards him. The two continued to talk easily, with Anias narrowing her eyes and butting in at times to force herself into the conversation. Eventually, Miles cursed as he looked at his phone.

Jace: Dude, you said you'd be at my room an hour ago! - 12:32 PM

Jace: If you're not here in 5, I'm breaking into your room and stealing the flatscreen TV… - 12:35 PM

"Shit, got to go. It was nice meeting you two. See you at class!" Miles quickly shouted, forgetting about the jacket he was looking at as he ran out the store.

"Oh, uh, you too!" PT remarked, Anias sighing in a relived manner as the two could finally get back to shopping.

Felix tried not to meet Jace's gaze, sighing as he finally gave in.

"What is it, Jace? Do you have something to say?" The tan skinned freshman asked, with the older teenager rubbing his chin in response.

"Do you have someone hold your hand when you cross the street?" Jace asked seriously, leaning back in his chair while his roomate groaned.

"You're such a dick, Jace." Hunter commented, keeping his eyes closed as Jace had been making fun of the two for the past five minutes. Hunter and Felix had quickly befriended each other in class today, having gotten lunch. Since the two of them shared the same class in just a few hours, they decided to hang out together in the meantime.

That brought them back to Hunter's room, with the two simply chatting and getting to know each other. Unfortunately, this also led to having to hear Jace and his insults regarding the short height of the two teens. It was safe to say that as friendly as Felix was, he definitely wasn't warming up to Hunter's roommate.

Jace and Hunter met each other when moving in a few days ago. While they both didn't hate each other, it certainly wasn't a great friendship they had. They also hadn't spent much time together anyways, since Jace was more extroverted, leading him to want to be outside of his room as long as possible.

"Dude, you're not even that much older than us. You're just a few inches taller!" Felix argued, throwing his hands towards Jace. Jace simply tossed popcorn into his mouth, checking his phone while not making eye contact with the blonde haired boy.

"Uh huh… Well, I'm breaking into his room now. I warned him!"

Hunter and Felix appeared confused, not having any clue what he was talking about. The two shrugged it off, opting to watch the 5'10 seventeen year old grab a screwdriver and tool box in his other hand.

"Bye you two, I won't order a babysitter as I'll only be gone for a bit!" Jace shouted behind him before he threw his door open. The blonde screeched in a high pitch voice, however, being caught off guard by somebody about to knock. Panicking, Jace swung with the screwdriver. Eyes widening at his supposed friend's action, Miles barely ducked underneath the apparent weapon. The screwer driver skimmed over his black hair and pierced the wooden wall, half of it submerged cleanly while the other half stuck out.

Miles stared at Jace, his mouth agape and eyes conveying the shock and betrayal he was feeling. Meanwhile, Jace took heavy breaths with his eyes closed.

"What the actual fuck?" Miles asked, his heart rate dropping back down to a normal level.

Unlike Jace, who continued to breathe heavily. Hunter stared at the doorway, being entertained by the wild interaction while Felix cursed softly due to wanting Miles to attack the Jace back in return.

"Holy shit, I almost died." The blonde muttered as he clenched his chest with one hand.

"Oh, my bad. It was you that almost got pierced in the head by a screwdriver. Wait, were you about to break into my room with that?"

Miles pushed the blonde back into the room, the duo momentarily forgetting about the screwdriver stuck into the drywall. As Jace flopped onto his bed, Miles finally noticed the two strangers in the room.

"Please tell me you two saw that shit." Miles joked, leaning against the wall.

"Hard to miss." Hunter replied

"You should have punched the guy.." Felix remarked just loud enough for the group to hear.

The taller teenager laughed, fixing his hair as he introduced himself. "I'm Miles. What's your guys' name?"

The two got up from their seats, going up to shake Miles' hand as they introduced themself.

"Hey, I'm Hunter. I'm Jace's roommate unfortunately." The auburn haired boy joked, with the scar on his left eyebrow slightly showing in the light.

"Felix, nice to meet you? Hey, didn't you compete in the Sinnoh League Tournament last year?" Felix asked the Kanto native, having recognized the teen.

"Yeah, that's right. Did you?" Miles countered curiously.

"Nah, I remember seeing you compete from home. It was impressive." Felix slightly fanboyed.

"How far did you get?" Hunter jumped into the conversation.

"Lost in the Final. Yeah, that wasn't fun losing so close to winning it all." Miles replied, recalling the memory from just a few months ago. Not wanting to force himself to relive it all, the 17 year old reminded himself that he lost to a capable and powerful trainer.

"At least you made it there. I made the Top 16 but lost in the next elimination match." Hunter added, wrinking his face in disgust at Jace sticking his whole face into his popcorn bag.

"Be proud of that. How old are you?" Miles asked. Before Hunter could respond, Jace quickly interrupted.

"The little squirt is sixteen but he looks twelve."

"I asked Hunter, not you fat ass. Anyways, you're sixteen, you have plenty of time and you made the Top 16. I think anyone would praise you for that." Miles finished, not wanting the teen's confidence to waver.

The four boys continued to talk for hours, until eventually realizing that there was still a whole screwdriver buried into their dorm wall.

"Jace, did you ever get the screwdriver?" Hunter asked seriously, some worry laced in his words

"I should probably get that…"

"Good idea."

"Shit!" Cherry yelped, diving to the ground as several boulders crashed to here she was previously standing. Debris and dust flew into the air, with Cherry's previously perfect white shirt now being stained and covered in sand.

"I'm fine Gothorita, no need to worry." Cherry informed her Pokemon, slowly pushing her small frame up as her pokemon had a worried expression on her face. The two were located in one of the Academy's many training areas, with this location being completely empty minus the blonde and her Gothorita.

It was a small sand field, with glaring lights seated overhead and the field enclosed by steel walls to prevent anyone from getting hurt; the only entrance being two front doors that were also reinforced.

It was currently 5 PM, with Cherry having finished school a couple hours ago. The young girl thought it would be a good idea to train Gothorita, specifically with her use of Rock Slide. Yet, progress seemed to be extremely slow, with the Psychic type struggling to throw the rocks accurately. This previous attempt almost took the trainer's head off, indicating the clear inaccuracy the move contained.

"Ok, lets try this again, Gothorita. This time, try and make the boulders smaller to have more control."

Gothorita nodded confidently, before closing her eyes. In just a few seconds, small blue discs formed in front of the Pokemon overhead, with the outlines of small boulders appearing. Unlike last time, they didn't come crashing down and wavered in the air unsteadily.

"Good! Now, throw it down to the floor." Cherry remarked while showing her teeth in a smile that stretched across her face. Gothorita nodded once again, before following the commands of her trainer.

The boulders hitched slightly before being launched downward. However, some boulders remained up in the air before dissipating completely. It was a partial success, with some boulders not being thrown in exchange for successful accuracy in the ones that crashed onto the ground.

Gorhotia sighed at her attempt, clearly discouraged at her progress.

"That was great Gothorita! I know it hasn't been smooth sailing, but there has been progress. We're gonna get this down in no time." Cherry assured her Pokemon, who cheered happily in response.

Suddenly, a boulder appeared right next to the two and crashed beside them. Dust flew into their eyes and mouth as Cherry coughed violently to get it out of her mouth.

"Ok, it may take a little bit more time than I thought."

John took a deep breath in, sitting cross legged on the dry grass. The 15 year old currently sat in the campus park, located dead smack in the middle of campus. There sat a large lake with clear blue water and an expensive fountain in the middle. Several Duckletts and Slowpokes swam across the lake or layed across the wet grass right outside the water.

Across the lake was a large circle shaped sidewalk made of gravel, with students either traversing the sidewalk to their next destination or were also lounging at the park. Chats and laughter filled the air, yet the teenager was not distracted as he had been mediating in the area for the past ten minutes.

It was a frequent pastime for the trainer, as it helped relax and clear his mind frequently.

The boy's Mr Mime, nicknamed Oscar, was currently in his pokeball as John thought he deserved a break. Despite the Psychic type being a major help and necessary in his day to day life, the Pokemon needed rest as it was exhausting to aid his trainer 24/7. Besides, mediating and calming one's mind wasn't a tax that required Mr. Mime's help.

John was snapped out of his thoughts when a familiar auburn haired teenager sat beside him.

"Hey John, is it alright if I sit here?" Hunter asked cheerily, with John nodding confidently in response. Despite no visual aid, the 15 year old was able to recognize the boy he met in class. Still, John let out Oscar to aid the boy as he would need the Pokemon soon to head to his next class.

Oscar immediately aided John with a visual screen of what was occurring, extremely similar to watching a game on television.

"Of course, I was actually just meditating for a bit but now seems like a good spot to call it."

"Cool, I wish I had the patience for that. I feel like my mind is racing when I've tried to." Hunter shrugged, pushing back his hair and in the process, revealing his scar on his right forehead once again. Curious but hesitant to bring it up, John pushed forward.

"I hope you don't mind me asking, but how did you get that scar?"

Hunter didn't seem put off by it, laughing for a second before responding in his cheerful mood.

"Oh, this? Just a small accident with a Fraxture when I was a kid. I was super upset at first, but I've gotten used to it. Not in love with it but definitely hasn't taken away my love for dragon types."

"Is that your favorite type of Pokemon?" John asked curiously.

"Definitely! I've wanted to be a dragon tamer my whole life." Hunter quickly responded, his eyes beaming brightly with his clear love and interest of the topic. The two easily fell into conversation, with John learning quite a bit about Hunter and his background.

Hunter was born in Hoenn but raised in Sinnoh, specifically in Celestic Town. There, he was raised as a single child by his parents and learned all about ancient history due to the importance of it in the town.

From there, Hunter fell in love with learning all about Sinnoh's history, and developed a love for Dragon type Pokemon due to the history and fossils behind them. Hunter had caught several dragon type Pokemon, such as a Fraxture of his own, or even a powerful Hakamo-o. The two continued to share stories and facts about themselves until it visibly got late.

"Shoot, I should probably head back to my room as it's getting late. Here, we should exchange numbers!" John offered, holding out his phone with Hunter agreeing excitedly.

"Sounds good, I'll see you!" Hunter handed back John's phone after adding his contact, waving behind him as he walked away.
