It is hard being born in a war-drifted world, it is hard losing your brothers that are younger than you and it is hard being mistreated by your own father, yet I still am alive, I am a survivor.
My name is Uchiha Aya, I was born into a harsh world, a world where being a boy my age was a miracle but being a girl, my age is harder. I am one of five or was one of five. Now, I only have two older brothers, Izuna and Madara.
Father doesn't treat us with respect; but I somehow always get the short end of the stick, you see, we live in a world of war, and who fight in this war? Men. I sometimes think I am his greatest disappointment only because of my gender, in fact, I am Uchiha Seji Aya. He makes me go by my second name and even made me cut my hair, so I don't look like Uchiha Aya, but instead Uchiha Seiji. Long story short, I hate my life. I am 8 years old, I shouldn't be going to war, I should be talking to girls and having crush on boys! But oh well, that's life.
"Seji-Chan! Come on!" I heard my brother, Izuna call for me. I quickly put on my shinobi shoes and grabbed my sword. I walked out of my house, Izuna and Madara were waiting for me.
"Where's father?" I asked, not seeing him.
"He's waiting for us at the forest, he spotted some ninja, we need to hurry to hep him!" I quickly nodded.
We were running through the branches of the thick forest, I don't understand why we bother to help him, he can manage by himself.
"Seji-Chan, do you sense him?" Madara said, slowing down to talk to me. I closed my eyes and concentrated on the nearest chakra. "He's close, five ninjas are surrounding him, whilst he is fighting three." So, he is in trouble.
"Let's hurry!" Izuna said, picking up his pace, Madara and I nodded and pressed forward. I pushed on so I was in the front of the group, leading them to where father was. When we got there, father's sword was piercing another man, who looked to be from the Hayaime clan.
We easily defeated the ninjas who remained, me only assisting in the kills. Fun fact about me, I have never killed anyone, my brothers keep that burden away from me. I was putting my sword away, when I heard a cackle and then with a flash of pain I was on my back, bewildered. Father stood above me; his hand still curled in a fist.
"What do you think you're doing?" Madara shouted, placing himself in front of me in a defensive pose, Izuna meanwhile went to my aid.
"Don't defend him, Madara." My brother's fist tightened as my father's fist relaxed.
"What did she-did he do know?!" Father turned his back on us.
"What didn't he do? We are at war, yet he still doesn't understand that it's our lives or theirs! You two are too easy on him, he needs to learn." And with that, he jumped into the tree-branches and was gone.
I felt the pain in my eye widen as the time passed by, Izuna helped me up.
"Don't defend me guys." I muttered looking down. Madara's eyebrows furrowed even more.
"You're our sister! We have to defend you! Father has no right to treat you so badly."
"It doesn't matter! We are at war right now, there are more important thing than me!" I shouted. Madara and Izuna both looked at me, eyes widened. This was the first time I have actually shouted. "Let's, let's head back." I said, running through the tree branches, my two brothers following.
Sometimes I wonder what would happen if this war ended, would me and my brothers become normal kids? Or would we be haunted by everything that has happened? I don't know, but I hope some-day I can see it, a world where peace is real.
The next day, I got up earlier than usual, I sighed as I got dressed in my every-day clothes, I looked in the mirror and saw my now purple-almost black eye, he did went over-board this time.
As the only girl in the family, it's my duty to make breakfast and stuff like that, which is a load of crap if you ask me, only because of my gender I have to make breakfast and clean the house? Come on, in what century are we again? But oh well, I don't want to defy father unnecessarily. I wish mother were here, cooking in the mornings can get lonely at times.
"Aya-kun, why are you up so early?" I looked around to find Izuna, still in his night-robes and with a tired expression on his face.
I shrugged. "Couldn't sleep." I continued cooking.
"Hey, let me cook today, you deserve a break." I chuckled
"If you make breakfast, there are two options, we will eat burnt things and get sick, or the kitchen will catch fire, you choose." I said, setting the table up, he rolled his eyes.
"At least let me set the table!" I smiled and nodded.
"Sure, I could use the extra help." He nodded and started to set the table.
Once I was done serving everything, me and Izuna sat down.
"You should go and change."
"Why?"
"Because."
"That's not a real reason." I sighed and rolled my eyes.
"Just go and do it." He pouted and left to go change, sometimes he acts like a child.
A few minutes later, he came back, wearing his casual clothing. "Happy now?" I nodded.
"Food's gonna get cold." I mused.
"Do you want me to go wake Madara up?"
"Madara! Go and wake up your no good of brother to make breakfast!" We both turned our heads as father entered the room.
"You're up early. Good." He said, sitting down on his usual seat.
Madara then ran into the room, his first angry expression now confused. "You're up? At this time?" I nodded as he sat down. We ate in silence, once father was done, he left without saying anything. I watched as Madara, a mouthful of rice in mouth, glared at father as he left.
"Don't glare at him like that." I whispered. He swallowed what he had in his mouth.
"Sorry, it's the custom." When we finished eating, I cleared up the table and started to wash the dishes.
"Aya-kun, let me do the dished today!" Izuna said, clearing the table. I was getting suspicious, why so nice?
"Sure, I mean, if you want." I said, drying my hands. He smiled and nodded. "I'm going to train, see you later guys!" I said, waving at my brothers. I put on my shinobi shoes and ran to where I normally train, it was a little clearing in the woods, no one knew of this place, not even my brothers. I got to the clearing but was surprised to see someone already there. The boy immediately put his guard up, like he sensed me, this guy's a ninja. I also stayed alert but decided to hide in a bush.
"Who's there?!" the boy shouted, he had piercing black eyes and an 'X' shape scar on his right cheek. "Whoever's there better come out at once!" Wait, he shouldn't hurt me if I don't seem like a threat. I put my hands up and walked out of the bush, he grabbed a kunai. "Who are you?"
"My name is Ay-Seji, but you must understand that for certain reasons I can't tell you my last name."
He hesitated for a moment, but then put his guard up again. "Why should I trust you? Give me a good reason not to kill you here and now!"
I sighed and lowered my hands, causing to tense up. "You shouldn't trust me, and I can't give you a good reason for you not to kill me, it's all up to you, but I'm not going to hurt you." He lowered his kunai, guard still up.
"You're a shinobi, right?" I nodded.
"I am, you're sensory skills are quite impressive you know." I said, smiling at him.
"Thanks, I guess."
"So, you come here a lot?" I said, getting closer to him, he put up his kunai back up.
"Why are you being so nice?" I shrugged.
"I just am! I guess you aren't used to another shinobi being niceā¦" He put his kunai away.
"Sorry, I'm just picky about things like this." I giggled.
"Whelp, it's our only choice, right?" He smiled and nodded.
"You didn't tell me your name by the way."
"It's Kawarama."
"Nice name." he blushed a little.
"I uh, thanks I guess, you too!"
I smiled and came closer to him; he was now fully relaxed.
"So, you've decided to trust me."
"Not really, but I saw something in your eyes, I know you aren't going to hurt me."
"Are you sure?" he tensed up, but relaxed when I started laughing.
"Don't worry! I told you once, I'm not going to hurt you." He smiled at me.
"Hey, want to train with me?" he seemed surprised by my question.
"Are you sure? I mean, yeah, but why again?" I rolled my eyes.
"Well, I come here to train, and since I found you here, I guess we can train together."
He thought for a while, probably debating if he still wanted to trust me, eventually he nodded his head and smiled. "Sure, why not?"
We trained together for a few hours; he really was good, almost too good for his age. The sun was still shining, we were both gasping for air, sitting in a big rock that was there.
"You're good, how old are you again?"
"Oh, I'm nine, you?"
"Eight."
"Really? Wow, you are too good to be eight." I chuckled.
"It's in order to survive, right?" he nodded and smiled.
"Hey, Seji-Chan, do you have siblings?"
"Yeah, I'm one of five, or was one of five, now I'm one of three." I muttered.
"Oh, sorry to bring back memories."
"Don't worry! How about you?" he smiled.
"I'm one of four." I smiled at him.
"I hope it stays that way."
"Hey, Seji, do you come here often?"
"Uhum, almost every day."
"Huh, I thought this would be a good space to train, but I guess it's already taken."
"Don't worry! You can come here whenever you like, I'm sharing my safe place with you."
"Safe place?"
"Yeah, not even my brothers now about this place, you're the first person I have seen here." He smiled at me.
"Thank you."
After some more hours of training and talking, the sun began to set and we said our goodbyes. Kawarama, I'll definitely remember that name. I ran home as fast as I could, I guess I lost notion of time, father's gonna kill me!
When I finally got home, Madara and Izuna were both outside, they seemed worried. Madara looked at me and ran towards me, Izuna followed.
"Where have you been? We've been worried sick!" Madara said, I stopped in front of him and Izuna.
"I was out training, sorry, I wasn't aware it was this late." I lied (It came very natural to me).
"Sorry for worrying you." Madara smiled, while Izuna seemed relieved.
"At least you're ok, that's what matters." Izuna said, messing my hair.
"By the way, happy birthday." Madara said. Huh? Oh yeah! It is my birthday today.
"Oh, right, I have one of those, thanks for reminding me!" I said, they both rolled their eyes.
"You really didn't remember?" Izuna asked me, I shook my head.
"No, I had bigger things in mind." I proceeded to walk inside our house.
"Like what?"
"The war."
"You shouldn't be thinking of such things." Izuna said.
"Yeah, I agree." Madara followed, I simply chuckled as we took off our shoes.
"And what is there to think about other than war?" I asked them, placing my shoes neatly in the entrance.
"I don't know, friends? Boys?" Izuna said, Madara just glared at him.
"Maybe not boys." I rolled my eyes.
"Come on Mada-kun, you know I won't think about boys..." He smiled. "Yet." He glared at me, causing me and Izuna to laugh.
"What do you mean by 'yet'?"
"Nothing! Nothing, don't worry 'bout it."
We all walked into my room.
"has father arrived?" they both shook their heads.
"Oh well, he'll arrive soon."
Just in that moment, we heard the door open, I sensed it to be father's chakra.
"Speaking of the devil" I said.
"Literally." Madara responded, making us snicker.
"Anyways, go to your room guys, before he eats my head."
"Good night, Aya-kun." Izuna said, giving me a quick kiss in the forehead.
"Night sis." Madara said, messing my hair, why mess with my hair? WHY?
"Night boys, see you tomorrow."
They both left, I changed into my night-robes and went to sleep. My pillow felt like something was underneath it, I picked it up and saw a box, I opened the box to find a beautiful necklace, it
