Teddy sat beside the bed in ICU, Henry was still on the ventilator but alive. Christina and Richard had said it was a tough surgery but he would make it. She held his hand and gently ran her thumb across the back of it.
"I'm here," she whispered, "I'm here and we'll be okay. We will be okay. Us and our baby."
He opened his eyes.
"Don't try to talk," Teddy soothed, "just rest."
He squeezed her hand. She moved to sit on the side of the bed still in the scrubs she had worn the night before. She gently placed both of their hands on her abdomen.
"Five weeks," she whispered, "I was coming home to tell you. Our baby needs you. I need you. Our family needs you."
Owen popped his head around the door, "Teddy?"
"I'm okay," Teddy replied, "he's still heavily sedated."
"Do you want to go get clean clothes s," Owen asked.
"I'm fine I can't leave him," Teddy replied, "I have to contact his sister this time. She should know."
"I can sit with him," Owen offered.
"I'll stay until he's alert," Teddy replied.
"Do you need anything," Owen asked.
"If you're offering I need water," Teddy replied, "but you should go home to Christina. Makeup from whatever argument you had."
"I'll be back," Owen replied. He returned with a couple bottles of water and a sandwich. He didn't know when Teddy had eaten or if she would but he wanted to make sure she had something if she chose to eat.
"Thank you," Teddy forced a small smile.
"It'll be okay," Owen assured.
"I hope so," Teddy answered, "it has to be. He has to be. I need him."
"I know you do," Owen replied, "Teddy you love him, I know I was sceptical but you two make sense."
"It's good," Teddy agreed.
"You two are good," Owen asked.
"Ya we'll get through this," Teddy assured herself more than anyone. She needed to tell someone her news but Henry had to know first. She had to tell her husband first.
"If you need anything," Owen started.
"I'll call," Teddy assured, "I'm okay Hunt. He'll pull through it's just going to take time. You go I know Christina is waiting."
Owen slipped out of the room. He hoped that his best friend would be okay.
Henry opened his eyes again. Teddy knew it was a reflex but she called for someone to take the tube out. He was breathing over the ventilator and coughing it was time.
The icu resident came to take out the tube.
"Teddy," Henry groaned.
"It's okay," she promised, "Richard and Christina fixed the bleeding and removed the tumor."
"Gone," Henry asked.
"Yes and some lung tissue but we'll be okay," Teddy assured, "a few days in ICU then a week or so here before you go home. It'll be okay Henry."
"You," he croaked.
"I'm fine," she assured, she would wait until he was stronger to tell him. It was only a home test anyway. She had just peed on a stick and done the math but her OB rotations were so long ago. They had just started trying and she was in her late 30s. She needed to go see an OB and get blood work anyway. She wondered who would be discreet and not let the whole hospital know.
Knowing it would reassure Henry she slipped her shoes off and laid down beside him on the edge of the bed.
"I'm not a dr now," she whispered, "just the scared wife in the ICU don't let my scrubs fool you."
A while later Arizona appeared at the door.
"Teddy," Arizona said, "do you want me to get your keys and go get you both clean clothes?"
"I'll be okay," Teddy replied, "once he's stable and asleep for the night I'll run home and shower."
"When was the last time you slept," Arizona asked.
"Thursday night," Teddy replied.
"It's Saturday night," Arizona replied, "you've been up 48 hours you shouldn't drive Teddy. I'll go wait in the lounge and drive you home."
"Callie and Sophia," Teddy replied.
"Understand," Arizona replied.
