"Ananias!" Charlotte happily cried out as she ran toward the said man as quickly as she could to deliver him the good news. "Ananias!"

Ananias let out an exasperated sigh before turning towards her and grumpily asking, "What?"

Charlotte gave him a funny look upon hearing his noticeable response. "Well, hello to you too, Mr. Grump Pants! Geez, sleep on the wrong side of the bed last night or something?"

Ananias groaned softly as closed his eyes, pinched the bridge of his nose, and shook his head. "Sorry." He opened his eyes again and looked at her. "Hey, Charlotte. How's it going?"

Charlotte smiled and spun around in delight. "Everything is great!" She stopped spinning and began tapping at his nose. "And it's all because of you!"

Ananias' eyes widened in surprise. "Me? What did I do?"

Charlotte frowned as she disapprovingly placed her hands onto her hips. "Ugh! You've honestly forgotten?!"

Ananias sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck. "Well, I mean, I haven't exactly done anything for you as of late."

Charlotte sighed and it was now her turn to pinch the bridge of her nose and shake her head. "Not everything is about you, Ananias."

"But you just said -"

"I know what I said!" Charlotte cried. "Now let me explain myself before your small talking skills finally manage to annoy someone to death!"

Ananias' eyes widened in surprise at how dark Charlotte's outburst had been before weakly saying, "Okay, alright. Geez. Go ahead."

"Hmph," Charlotte huffed before immediately smiling as if said outburst had never happened and explained, "well, remember when you said that you'd put a good word in for my parents with your family?"

Ananias nodded. "Yeah?"

"Well," Charlotte squealed excitedly, "it worked! I just got a letter from my family and they said that a red-headed merchant just offered them a chance to work for her at a shop that she plans on opening in Nohr! Can you believe it?"

Ananias shook his head. "Considering how poor the natural resources here are? Sort of. Considering how poor everyone in the lower class is here? Not really. Honestly, the fact that any one of my relatives would allow someone else to run one of their shops is hard to believe already. What the heck type of business is she planning on starting here, I wonder?"

Charlotte nonchalantly waved his question off. "Who knows? But the fact is that the arrangements have been made and that my family now has a chance of eating and living better, and I've got you to thank for that!" She gave him a playful wink. "Thank you. I can rest just a little bit easier now that I know that they won't be completely starving anytime soon!"

"Yeah, well, you're welcome," Ananias said. "Your family sounds like they deserve it. So, is that it, or what?"

Charlotte frowned. "Aw, want to get rid of me so badly?" She then gave him a mischievous smirk. "Are you still angry at me over the whole 'courting' thing?"

"Yes!" Ananias cried. "Wouldn't anyone be?!"

Charlotte gave him an acknowledging nod and shrug. "Maybe, but it's usually not your style, you know? You're usually so forgiving. So quick to let things go and let bygones be bygones. So why should this be any different?"

"Because you were trying to court me!"

"Hmm," Charlotte said, taking a moment to think it through for a moment before shaking her head and saying, "no, that still doesn't seem like a good enough reason... for you anyway. Unless," she gave him another mischievous smirk, "you were really into it?"

"T-That's...," Ananias blushed and averted his eyes to the side before shaking his head, "there's no way that's true!"

Charlotte roared with laughter upon seeing Ananias' frankly incriminating evidence against himself. "Oh my gosh! You did! You did like it!" She gave him a playful shove. "You were eating it up, weren't you?"

"I was not!" Ananias weakly insisted.

"Was too!" Charlotte gave him another, much harder shove.

"Was not!"

"Was too!" Charlotte cried, again shoving him, only this time, shoving him so hard that he fell to the ground, causing something to fall out of his pocket as he roughly hit the floor.

"Ouph!"

Charlotte let out a small gasp of surprise. "Oh, sorry about that, Ananias!" She carefully helped him back up to his feet. "I guess I had forgotten just how strong I was for a moment there."

Ananias gave her an annoyed look before dusting himself off and grumbling, "It's alright. Better this than being lied to about who you really are."

Charlotte let out a low whistle as she crossed her arms. "Wow, you really are sensitive about the whole thing, aren't you?" Her face fell a bit. "Then I guess that means you really hate little old me now, don't you?"

Ananias sighed guiltily and shook his head. "Of course not, Charlotte. Why would I? You had your reasons and your real personality isn't really any different from what I'm usually used to," it was then that Charlotte noticed the object that had fallen out of Ananias' pocket and picked it up, "so why would I hate you?"

"Well, for one," Charlotte held the ring up for Ananias to see, "this ring suggests that you were much more in love with the other me instead of the real me."

Ananias' eyes widened in surprise. "Gah!" He rummaged quickly and frantically rummaged through his pockets before realizing that the ring that Charlotte was holding was indeed his. "How did -"

"It fell out of your pocket after I accidentally pushed you down," Charlotte calmly replied. "Ananias," she gave him a concerned frown, "were you planning on proposing to me before you found out who I really was?"

"I... I...," Ananias stammered as he anxiously ran his hands through his hair, before sighing and softly answering, "I mean, maybe."

"O-Oh," Charlotte murmured. An awkward silence came between the two before Charlotte handed Ananias the ring back and said, "Well then, whoever you give this ring to in the future will be one very lucky girl."

"Yeah," Ananias quietly said as he took his ring back, "I guess." Before Charlotte could make her leave, however, Ananias sighed, and said, "Charlotte, wait."

Charlotte stopped in her tracks and looked back at him. "Yeah?"

Ananias hesitated for a moment before taking a deep breath and asking, "All of those nice things you said to me back then... did you mean any of that?"

"Of course I did," Charlotte gently answered. "Just because I court people doesn't mean I don't have standards. I'm not going to try and date just any guy just because he's rich. He's got to be a decent person too, and you definitely met the Charlotte courting standard."

"Until you found out that I wasn't really rich."

Charlotte let out a small gasp of surprise before sighing and admitting, "A bit, yeah." There was another brief silence between the two before Charlotte asked, "And you were totally head over heels for what you thought I was, huh? Until you found out that that wasn't the real me?"

Ananias hesitated for a moment before grudgingly nodding his head and saying, "Yeah, kind of."

"Oh," Charlotte said quietly.

Another awkward silence came between the two before Ananias asked, "Are you mad that I did?"

Charlotte shook her head. "Of course not. Most men are attracted to that type of woman. That's why it's a part of my act." She nonchalantly shrugged. "Can't blame you for being part of the majority, right?"

Ananias nodded understandingly. "Yeah, right." He looked disappointedly at the ring in his hands for a moment before softly adding, "If it makes you feel any better, your real personality seems pretty attractive too. In its own little way. When you're not punching holes into walls and calling people hobos, that is."

Charlotte giggled before blowing Ananias a kiss and saying, "You flatterer, you." She then began to slowly step away from him. "Well then, I guess that means we'll just be friends from now on."

Ananias nodded. "Yeah, I guess it does."

"... No hard feelings?"

Ananias shook his head. "I don't really have time for those."

Charlotte smiled and nodded. "Heh, me either." The two of them then began walking their separate ways before Charlotte promptly stopped and muttered, "Aw, what they hell," before running back to Ananias and jumping onto his back, causing him to let out a yelp in surprise.

"C-Charlotte?! What are you doing?"

Charlotte giggled. "Finishing what I started." She then took the ring from out of Ananias' hands and said, "Hmm, you know, looking at this closer, this ring really is quite the gem. You really went out of your way for me, didn't you?"

Ananias blushed. "W-Well, what was I supposed to do? Just give you any old ring and hope that you'd like it no matter what? I'm pretty sure proposals should have a little bit more effort put into them than just the sentimentality."

Charlotte hummed in agreement. "Yeah, you got a point there. Well then, if this is how you treat me now, then I can just imagine how much effort you'll put into our wedding!"

"W-Wedding?! B-But I thought -"

Charlotte placed her head between the crook of his neck and nuzzled against it. "I reconsidered. I mean, sure, you're not exactly rich, but in terms of you as a person, you really are quite the catch. I'd be a fool to let something as rare as you slip past my fingers. Now the only question left is if you'll take back this horrible woman who originally tried to use you."

Ananias let out a small gasp of surprise before thinking long and hard about it before saying, "Well, if I've seen you at your best and at your worst, then I guess it should be smooth sailing from here on out, huh?"

Charlotte chuckled at this. "Well, that's certainly one way to look at it."

Ananias chuckled back. "Then it's settled." He then slowly got Charlotte off of him, knelt down onto one knee, held out the ring, and asked, "Charlotte, will you marry me?"

Charlotte offered her hand out and smiled. "Yes. Yes, I will."
