"Where am I?" Tony DiNozzo groaned.

"You're inside N-C-I-S headquarters," a female voice responded. "We found you unconscious at our crime scene. Naturally, we brought you in when we found your I-D."

Tony blinked his eyes as he sat up. The woman pushed him back down. She had dark hair and a lovely face but her facial expression was hard and grim.

"And who are you?" Tony asked.

The woman flashed an ID and a badge.

"I'm N-C-I-S Special Agent Heather Kincaid."

"I'm N-C-I-S, too," Tony said. Again, he sat up, again he was pushed down.

"Yeah. No. Don't think so. We found your I-D. Very good work in some ways. Off in a few ways. Unfortunately, you aren't in our system."

Tony made a face. "There must be a glitch in your system. I've been investigating a missing seaman connected to Navy experiments in dimensional travel."

Kincaid raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, really? And what color is the sky of the world you live in?"

Imagine the voice of Rod Serling.

"Anthony DiNozzo has just entered another reality via 'The Twilight Zone.'"

Tony felt groggy as he struggled to form thoughts.

Kincaid looked irritated as she crossed her arms over a stylish white blouse and black blazer with black pants, all of which looked like a military-style uniform.

"Do you understand that it's a crime to impersonate a federal agent?"

"Of course I understand that," Tony practically snapped. "I'm an N-C-I-S special agent."

"No, you're not," Kincaid said in a firm voice.

Tony got an intense look on his face. "I've had people impersonate me, assume my identity, check into a hotel as me. I even got murdered once."

"Oh! Interesting. You've been murdered yet here you are." Kincaid spread out her hands as she assumed a goofy-yet-angry look.

"Yes, here I am," Tony said. "And here you are, Heather Kincaid."

"That's Special Agent Heather Kincaid."

"I understand. I'm a very special agent myself."

"Ah!" Kincaid said as she jabbed the air with her finger. "You think you are. But you're not."

Tony glanced around then abruptly sat up. "You have me in autopsy? I'm not dead. If I was, I wouldn't expect Heaven to look like autopsy."

"We here at N-C-I-S like to frighten and intimidate our guests."

"I guess you do," Tony mumbled. He lacked the usual bravado he might show in the NCIS squad room. As he tightened up his face in thought, he began to remember.

As Tony pointed, Kincaid stepped back. She also curled up her lower lip in a look of stern disapproval. Her sharp eyebrows added to the sharp look on her face.

"I remember you now," Tony said. "I interviewed you once. It was while Ziva was missing. We thought she was dead." He waved his finger. "You were sarcastic but still cheerful and happy."

The sharp eyebrows wiggled a little. "I think I would remember you no matter what world we met on." Her look got more intense as she again crossed her arms. "While you were passed out, you mumbled some things. You mentioned a 'Ziva David.' A Mossad agent? We looked her up. She's a ballerina, part of an Israeli troupe. Lives in a farmhouse outside Tel Aviv."

Tony gave her a look. "Am I being punked right now?" He sat in silence for a while, unusual for Tony. "Wait. I'm starting to remember more recent stuff. McGee and Abby sent me reports about some D-N-A found in the experimental chamber. That D-N-A showed Seaman David Decker was inside that chamber.

"I confronted the project leader, Dr. Steven Parker. He said yes, he'd put Decker in the chamber and was unable to bring him back. We struggled….Gibbs showed up…." Tony trailed off, and there was a look of realization. "I must have ended up inside the chamber."

Kincaid stared at him, a good long hard look. "McGee and Abby did work with us for a while but they became uncomfortable with the clandestine nature of our operations."

"I can imagine. Putting people in autopsy when they might need medical help."

"Gibbs was with us for a while, too, but he left to go fishing in Alaska."

"I'm not in Kansas anymore," Tony realized aloud in a mystified tone. "Any way I can wake up from this dream?"

"There's something that backs your story up," Kincaid said. She presented a young blond-haired man in a Navy uniform. "This is Seaman Decker. Like you, he showed up at our crime scene. Hours before you arrived. Out of nowhere. In the lab of Dr. Steven Parker."

It wasn't long before Kincaid, Tony and Decker were all assembled in the lab of Dr. Steven Parker. The one in this new world, Tony thought to himself.

After Tony explained the basic situation, Dr. Parker looked very happy.

"It's nice to know my experiment works!"

"Yes, that is a silver lining," Tony said. "Unfortunately, the you in the other world, my world, sent Seaman Decker over here with no way to bring him back. But I remember Dr. Parker saying he just needed to adjust the Alpha waves."

Parker lit up. "Yes, yes! I know exactly what you mean. If I can calibrate that and reverse the quantum path, you should be able to return home safely. You won't even pass out!"

Or I could end up in some other strange world, Tony thought.

When Tony found himself looking into the stern face of his team leader, one Leroy Jethro Gibbs, he was pretty sure he was home.

As usual, Gibbs had an impatient look, which he usually did where DiNozzo was concerned.

"I'm back, boss," Tony said in his usual glib voice of good cheer.

"Yeah, I see that, DiNozzo," Gibbs said in his usual mildly cross voice.

"And I found Seaman Decker."

"Yeah, I see that, too. Want to explain how?"

Tony made a face. "That's a little hard to explain, boss. It involves the 'Twilight Zone' or Wonderland or both. You might want to fudge parts of your report a little bit on this one."

"As long as Seaman Decker is back and safe, I'd say that's case closed."

"Works for me, boss." With a calm look, Tony nodded. "Dr. Parker's going to be in some trouble for covering up the accident and obstructing a federal investigation. But yeah, Seaman Decker is all right. We both are." Tony smiled. "It's good to be home. There's no place like home, boss."

"Yeah, DiNozzo, I suppose it is," Gibbs said with his usual hint of impatience. "Now let's wrap this up. I want to get home to Shannon and Kelly."

As the camera closes in on the shocked facial expression of Tony DiNozzo, we once again hear the voice of Rod Serling.

"Tony DiNozzo is not quite home yet. He may have to make another trip across dimensions, and perhaps another after that. If at first you don't succeed, try try again, in 'The Twilight Zone.'"
