A/N: The Characters (except Amelia) do not belong to me, I'm only borrowing them for a little bit.

Amelia Whistler sat hunched over her dark oak desk. She had large headphones over her ears, and she squinted at one of her computer monitors. With a groan she pulled her headphones off, tossed them on the desk and slumped down into her chair. Her research was not progressing as fast as she liked and now, she was stuck. Her watch buzzed on her wrist indicating that it was now one o'clock in the afternoon.

Amelia had learnt the hard way that if she did not set an alarm for herself then she would forget to eat, too enthralled in her latest project.

Her knees popped as she pushed herself out of her chair and with a groan, she stretched her arms up over her head and winced at the crack that emanated through the room and originated from her chest.

"That can't be good" she murmured to herself and absently rubbed her sternum.

Amelia sauntered down the hallway and shuffled down the carpeted stairway. She grabbed the railing once she reached the bottom and swung herself around. She made a quick pit stop in the living room to give a pet and kiss to her slumbering cat, Ripley, before she continued towards the kitchen.

She pulled last night's leftover lasagna out of the fridge and shoved it in the microwave. While she waited for her lunch to heat up, she took a seat on the closest stool at the breakfast bar and pulled her phone out of her back pocket.

Amelia frowned when she saw no new messages. She had hoped to receive an update but decided not to dwell on it. The first day was always busy, she should not be worried.

Three loud beeps chirped quickly, and Amelia shook her head and stood. She opened the microwave and reached up to grab the glass contained before she quickly let it go with a hiss.

"Hot" she said and shook her hand to ease the slight shot of pain in her fingertips.

Amelia reached down and pulled open the bottom drawer by the fridge and pulled out a red and white checkered tea towel. She lifted herself up on her toes and wrapped the towel around the container and spun around to put it down on the countertop. She slid the dish across the counter and moved around to sit back on the closest breakfast bar stool.

Amelia had just taken her first bite when she heard keys in the front door. With a frown she leaned sideways to peak down the hall and watched in confusion as her girlfriend, Emily stumbled through the door holding a file box.

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you were supposed to leave your things in your desk and not cart them back and forth every day."

"Ha Ha" Emily said dryly with a roll of her eyes, "You're so funny."

"I like to think so" Amelia said with a shrug, "What's going on? Wasn't expecting you this early."

Amelia watched as her partner of three years dropped the box she held unceremoniously and slumped against the now closed front door and covered her face with her hands.

"Apparently, I've been misinformed. I'm not starting with the BAU after all" said Emily, though her works were slightly muffled due to the hands covering her mouth.

"Didn't you get your transfer paperwork?"

"Yup"

"So…doesn't that mean you've been transferred?"

"Yup"

"Isn't this transfer the reason we've moved here from New York?"

"Yup"

"So, everything is going according to plan then?"

Emily let her arms drop to her sides and looked down the hall towards Amelia who stood, leant against the wall, with her arms crossed and a playful smirk adorning her face.

"Yup" Emily answered with a breath laugh.

"Come here" Amelia beckoned the other woman and once Emily moved away from the door and was within grabbing distance, Amelia pulled her into her arms and held on tight.

Emily sunk into her girlfriend's embrace and let the stress melt away.

"I just reheated the lasagna, come have something to eat and you can tell me all about it" Amelia whispered into Emily's ear and pulled back a little to lock eyes with the other woman.

Emily leant forward and pressed her forehead against Amelia's and just took a couple deep breaths.

"Sounds good" she said and gave a quick kiss before she detangled herself and walked into the kitchen. She reached into one the upper cabinets and grabbed a glass. She then turned back to the fridge and filled her glass up with water. She took a long pull of cold water and sighed before she turned around. Amelia had already reclaimed her seat and had another bite of lasagna halfway to her mouth.

"Thanks for waiting" Emily rolled her eyes, grabbed her own fork, and grabbed a piece of lasagna as her girlfriend shrugged with an innocent grin.

"So…tell me what happened" Amelia asked after she swallowed her mouthful of food.

"Well," Emily started and sighed. She dropped her fork down into the container, "I showed up this morning and met with the Unit Chief, who was on my mother's security detail when I was younger, but he had no idea that I was assigned to his unit. I handed over my paperwork but was summarily dismissed and then they left on a case. And here I am."

"Hmm" Amelia hummed.

"Yeah, not sure what to do now."

"Well, maybe the paperwork on his end is just slow. I would check in with him when they get back, obviously you were assigned to the BAU, so I don't think there's anything he can do about it."

"Oh yeah, that'd be a great way to start. A team that's forced to accept me."

Amelia stood and rounded the corner and pulled Emily into a strong hug, "I have faith that this will work out. He just doesn't know what a badass agent you are, you just have to show him what he'd be missing out on."

Emily rested her chin on Amelia's shoulder and breathed in the faint scent of mint from her shampoo.

"Yeah"

"You should call Marvin, get him to let you know what the team is on their way back."

"Okay"

"You gonna let me go?" Amelia asked and Emily could hear the smile in her tone.

"In a minute"

"Okay" Amelia sighed and just held on tighter.

*o*o*

Amelia sat on the couch and her eyes felt heavy. She was tired but determined to stay awake when Emily got home. She checked her watch and saw that it was eleven thirty. Emily had left over four hours ago, hopefully she would be home soon.

Just as Amelia felt her head fall back to rest against the back of the couch, she heard the front door open.

"I'm awake!" She yelled and heard Emily let out a laugh.

"Sure"

"Well, I'm awake now" Amelia countered with a huff. She turned around to lean over the back of the couch to look at her girlfriend, "Come on, tell me what happened," Amelia begged.

"I start with the BAU in the morning."

Amelia screeched and vaulted herself up over the back of the couch. She ran down the hall and leapt at her girlfriend. Emily caught her with ease and spun her around.

"I'm so happy for you!"

Emily laughed and lifted Amelia up higher to wrap her legs around her waist. Emily kept a firm grip on her butt and started walking back towards the living room.

"I had to show off my profiling skills, but I managed to convince Agent Hotchner that I belong on the team."

"Babe" Amelia pulled back with a soft smile, "Celebration time?" she asked with a comical wiggle of her eyebrows. Emily laughed but nodded and carried her girlfriend up the stairs towards the bedroom.
