A/N: Okay, so this chapter is a bit of a filler, and will set things up for the next chapter. I wanted to explore what else happened during those thirteen years apart, and hopefully add some more to the characters. Anyway, here it is.

Chapter 2: Strained Bonds
The day seemed gloomy to the three sisters. The gates were closed, their maids had left, so there was very little staff left. All the doors and windows were locked. It felt as if they were being closed off from the world.
The three of them were separated from each other, each in their own private rooms. Elsa's door was always shut, and almost always silent. But if one listened very carefully, they could possibly hear the soft sobbing of the young princess. Even on occasion, the voices of the King and Queen could be heard, trying to comfort their eldest daughter.
Day by day, Elsa's powers grew stronger, as did her fear of losing control. Brielle seemed to have the same fear lingering in the back of her mind. She kept herself somewhat calm by venting out her emotions in a journal. Brielle wrote as if she was talking to her sisters. There she could say everything she had been wanting to say without fear of being scolded.
Elsa on the other hand, wasn't as lucky. Her parent's constant attempts to get her to control her powers only made her anxiety grow. She wanted so much to make her parents happy, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't will her powers to do what she wanted. She would only be left with disappointed looks from her parents, and disappointment in herself.
Oh, how she wished she could talk to her younger sister. Brielle was always her confidant. She was wiser beyond her years and always seemed to understand Elsa perfectly. But ever since their parents split them apart for the second time, it seemed highly unlikely. And of course, she missed Anna just as much.
She always smiled when they were together. Anna was always running around the castle. Just a bundle of energy with a smile plastered on her face, hence why her sisters dubbed her Jumping bean. Elsa was given the name snowflake, because of her love of the snow, and Brielle was nicknamed fire cracker due to her fiery personality. Oh what she wouldn't give to back to those days of happiness and laughter, a time when she didn't have to live in fear of herself. But that seemed to become no more than a dream.
One morning, Brielle awoke with a strange tingling sensation on her head, she walked over to her vanity, hoping to find out what was going on. Brielle looked in the mirror, her mouth dropped open in shock. Her once curly brown hair, now had streaks of orange-red appearing throughout her hair.
Brielle was in such a state of shock, that her only reaction was to scream.
Anna was walking down the hallway, when she suddenly heard a scream come from Brielle's room.
"Brielle, what's wrong?" Anna asked, immediately concerned about her sister, "Are you alright?"
Brielle froze and tried to regain her composure, "N-no, don't worry. I-I'm fine."
Anna shook her head, obviously not believing her sister one bit, "Come on Brielle, let me in."
Brielle shook her head, Anna was just as persistent as ever.
"You wouldn't be screaming unless something was wrong," Anna pleaded hoping her older sister would listen to reason.
Brielle sighed, finally deciding to surrender. It had been months (although it seemed much longer when living in solitude) since she had last seen her little sister, and she'd had enough.
She got up and proceeded to pick the lock on her door. This was something that she had learned during many hours huddled up in the library. The library was the one place where she felt like she could escape the confines of her home. Although without a happy family, it didn't feel like home anymore.
Brielle slowly opened the door and looked around to make sure no one saw them. She grabbed Anna by the arm, quickly closing the door behind them.
Brielle let go of Anna and gave her time to recover.
"Ok Bri, what going on….?" Anna's voice trailed off
Brielle looked down at the floor, unsure of what to say at this point.
"Bri, your hair!" her sister gasped.
I know."
"What happened?"
"I don't know. I just woke up with a weird feeling, then THIS happened," Brielle explained, clearly becoming frustrated as she pointed to head.
"We've got to tell mom and dad," Anna replied, grabbing her sister's hand and dragged her to the door.
"Whoa! Hold on there, jumping bean," Brielle pulled her sister to a stop, using the nickname she had given Anna, when Brielle was nine, and Anna was seven.
"What is it?" Anna asked, chuckling at the mention of her nickname.
"If we tell them, they'll know that I let you in here and be mad at me."
Why would they be mad at you?"
Brielle looked down at the floor again, dreading these questions. "I can't tell you."
Why not?" Anna pressed, her lips beginning to pout.
"Because it's not for me to say," Brielle replied, "If you want to ask somebody, ask Mom and Dad."
"Fine," Anna huffed, as a mischievous grin spread across her face, "But you're coming with me."
Brielle opened her mouth to protest, but Anna had already grabbed her hand and was pulling her down the hallway.
Anna finally found their parents in the parlor, with Brielle in tow.
"Mom, Dad" Anna perked up.
The queen looked up from her book to see her youngest daughter looking at her expectantly. While her middle daughter looked nervous, "Yes sweetie, what is it?"
"Something's happening to Brielle."
The king looked at his middle child closely. Looking for any sort of change.
"Show them" Anna nudged Brielle.
Brielle turned her head and let her curls fall down her shoulder.
Their parents' eyes went wide.
"Anna, could you go back to your room for a little bit?" the queen asked, "Your father and I need to speak with your sister."
"Okay..." Anna replied.
She was hesitant to leave the room, unsure of what her parents would say or do once she left. Nevertheless, Anna slowly backed out of the room, her eyes never leaving her sister's. Anna gave Brielle an encouraging smile before shutting the door.
Once Anna had disappeared from her sight, Brielle turned to look at her parents. Their faces completely unreadable, as she waited expectantly for the reprimand that was sure to come.
"You let Anna into your room, didn't you?" the king asked sternly.
Brielle remained silent for a few moments, then slowly nodded.
"Sweetie, you know how dangerous that is," the queen said softly, but maintaining the seriousness of the situation.
"I know" Brielle replied, her voice just above a whisper.
"It's going to be all the more important," the king spoke again "For it seems that your powers are beginning to mature, and they will no doubt become stronger."
"Yes father," she replied simply.
Brielle left the room and slowly trudged her way back to her room. She searched the hallways for Anna, half expecting her to have been eavesdropping on the conversation. But the was nowhere to be found, which was sort of a good thing she supposed.
Suddenly she found herself in front of her bedroom door, She sighed as she turned the doorknob. As sad as things were now, Brielle still held hope that things would change for the better, Little did she know of the sadness that was about to befall the entire kingdom.
A/N: Ok so its FINALLY here. I can not even begin to express how sorry I am for taking nearly 2 years to do this. For some reason the entire chapter kept getting lost and I had to redo the entire chapter 3-4 times. And I had to get a new computer, so I had to transfer everything, which was really difficult for some reason. Anyway hope you guys like it.
