Alaska, time period of the brothers

A week before

Night ruled the woods, the village was in complete silence. Denahi and Chayo were sleeping peacefully on their tent, without worry about anything.

But little they knew about what was about to happen. Someone had profane their home, they were completely defenceless before the danger stalking them. Their attacker was very cautious at not awaking the victims, when he spotted the perfect opportunity: between the couple was a clear space perfect to attack. So the intruder jumped over the sleepy couple waking them up.

"Mom! Dad! Wake up!"

"Ay Aleu, not yet please" Chayo told her ten years old daughter as she covered herself with the pelt.

"It's barely dawn" said Denahi as he cuddled with his wife "Go back to bed. There's still plenty of time before the event."

"Well Meztli took the advance already"

Those words snatched the sleep from Denahi, the moment he incorporate himself he saw his daughter's bed empty.

"No teenager gets up this early" he mumbled as he got on his feet.

A year after their wedding, Denahi and Chayo had a daughter, Meztli, which was Denahi's twin. Kenai couldn't stop teasing his brother saying she was the pretty version of him. Five years later and precisely the day Koda received his totem, their second daughter, Aleu, was born. She was a mixture of her parents, her facial traits were her father's as she inherited her mother's white skin and dark brown hair.

Denahi came out of their tent just to be welcomed by dawn's sunshine. Suddenly he felt Chayo hugging him from behind.

"Is beautiful, don't you think?" Chayo

Denahi smiled and with an arm he gently pulled his wife closer.

"Indeed it is" he told her as he looked at her eyes and kissed her lips "The Spirits gave us a beautiful sunrise in a such special day."

"I can't believe Meztli is turning fifteen, it seems like it was yesterday when we were blessed with her."

"Yes, I wonder where she is right now."

"Maybe she's exploring out there looking for new adventures."

Meanwhile, not far from the village, a fifteen year old girl was challenging Mother Nature. Browsing through some rapids along her four legged friend, Jet. He was Saya's pup from her last litter with a Malamute. The heroic K9 joined The Great Spirits when all her last puppies were weaned off, almost three years ago, the actual age of Jet. The dog half Malinois, half Malamute was a birthday gift for Meztli when she turned twelve. The girl and the dog became inseparable friends, they never left each other's side. This time Meztli had taken her soul sister to a morning walk through the river, but she couldn't resist the temptation of navigating through the rapids even if her father had warned her about not doing it. Meztli had the same adrenaline spirit as her mother, what many times almost gives Denahi a heart attack since Meztli was younger.

Once they passed the rapids Meztli saw a waterfall ahead, then a big smile was formed in her face.

"Ready buddy?"

Jet barked in approval.

"Here we go!"

Meztli paddled the fastest she could, the idea was to fly away and land on the water. But unfortunately it didn't end like that, she didn't have enough impulse what caused her fall in straight line. The kayak sank down when touching the water and then came out floating. But then Meztli remarked an absence.

"Ikumak?"

A scream was heard from the top of the fall, another kayak hit the water and came to the surface. The owner of this one was Ikumak, a sixteen year old boy who was Meztli's best friend. Although Ikumak had a crush on Meztli since they were kids, but he kept it in secret since he didn't want to ruin their friendship.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm still alive, so yes. I just don't understand how you find fun risking your life browsing through some rapids to then fall from a waterfall"

"Uhsh, you're starting to talk like my dad. Isn't he Jet?"

Jet barked twice.

"I just want to make sure you don't get hurt the day of your ceremony"

Meztli gasped at remembering the date.

"THE CEREMONY!"

Meztli started to paddle like crazy back to the village, leaving poor Ikumak behind. After like an hour she finally arrived at the shore where other kayaks were docked. Jet was the first one in touching land, he was followed by Meztli and then she secured her kayak.

"Can I ask where you have been?"

Meztli closed her eyes making a face, she ended up turning around to meet Denahi with his arms crossed and a serious look.

"Hi Dad"

"The rapids again?"

"Eh...no?"

"No? Then why are you so wet?"

In that moment appeared Ikumak, his arms were exhausted from trying to catch up on Meztli. His state said that he had done the same insanity as his friend, but the worst was that he crossed Denahi who had become a very overprotective father with his two daughters. Meztli and Aleu were his princesses, Aleu was still a child that saw Denahi as her hero and her Prince Charming, Meztli on the other hand was already a young lady that started to catch the eye of many boys in the village. Which was why Denahi, along with his brothers, had the task of protecting her from any jerk and chose a worthy suitor of his baby girl. The last one presuming was impossible.

"Oh, g-good morning sir"

Denahi didn't answer, but stared at the boy with killer eyes. Making the poor guy almost wet his pants. Denahi placed a hand on the back of his daughter and then both started to walk home. Once they were alone Denahi wrapped his arms around Meztli and started to playfully tease her.

"Admit it, you like him"

"Who? Ikumak? Of course not, he's just my best friend"

"Meztli I'm your dad and I know you better than anyone else. And I also know he likes you."

"Yeah right"

"I'm serious, is you weren't that beautiful I shouldn't have to scare so many jackals."

"Dad, my mother is a warrior, I know how to fight and defend myself. I don't think I'll need a man in my life to do my stuff for me."

"That's my daughter!"

"Besides all men are stupid"

"Exactly! All men are- Hey I'm a man!"

"Precisely"

"..."

"I'm just kidding, I'm just kidding! NO! DADDY STOP! I'M SORRY! PLEASE STOP!"

Denahi didn't listen to her and kept with the tickle attack.
