Chapter 4: How to Catch a Hedgehog
7:30 AM
Ike opened his eyelids, feeling strands of pink hair rubbing against his face. The smell of honey and blossoms fumed up his nose, giving another couple of blinks.
The bed was a sponge of feathers than his usual hard rock mattress. He then remembered. This wasn't his bedroom, but Makato's. He shot up with a bright red face, slipping himself out of the blankets as the princess snoozed without a notice. "Oh shit. . . I. . . I fell asleep. This is not good. This. . . is bad." The mercenary's heart raced as he slowly backed away. His eyes darted toward the door and nodded to himself.
"Gotta get out. Fast. This won't look good." He grabbed the door, turning the knob, giving it a crack. He checked for any early bird Smashers. Good. Coast was cleared.
He stepped foot out the door and soon his whole body was out. He turned to the door, seeing Makato asleep. After his last peek at Makato, he shut the door completely. The moment he turned around, he flinched seeing Marth with wide eyes with a towel hovering above his chin
"Wh-wh-wh-wait a minute. . ." Marth lowered the towel and furrowed his eyebrows. "What are you doing in Makato's- -wait, you were in her room the whole time? And lemme guess, you tried to do something perverted without her consent? I can't believe you!"
"I-it's not like that! Get your thoughts out of the gutter!" Ike's face skyrocketed to a shade of a tomato as sweat poured from his back. "We just talked! And I learned that she was a princess. Princess of Potions."
"Princess of Potions. Princess. . . Makato?" Marth murmured to himself, shocked to hear the news. "Wow. . . Now I get it. You did something to make her confess-"
"No, I didn't!"
"Yeah, all guilty verdicts with the 'I'm-a-pervert face' would say that." Marth chuckled to himself. "Anyway, what else did she tell you?"
Ike glanced at the room with Makato's name on it and turned back to Marth. "Apparently, the potion she needs to make requires Sonic to be the main ingredient. And it's my responsibility to catch him and tie him up by 11:30 AM."
"S-Sonic?!" Marth sweatdropped. "Oh my God. . . Good luck. Ooh, I wonder what would happen if I catch Sonic before you?"
Ike arched his eyebrow. "Oh, you're up for a little competition? Ok, ok. Whoever catches Sonic before 11:30 AM wins."
"Deal."
Both gentlemen shook their hands for the agreement. After that, Pit came out of nowhere eavesdropping on their conversation.
"Catch Sonic for a prize? Lemme join!" Pit raised his hand toward the two bluenettes. That new girl is pretty cute. I want to get to know her more."
"Then talk to her," Marth said.
"Yeah. Ever heard of a throat? And fucking communication?" Ike added.
"Ah, it's not that easy!" Pit said. "Time to grub up with some breakfast and plan the capture!" Pit then ran off down the hallways.
Snake then appeared from the blue, giving a slight jumpscare to Ike and Marth. "When it comes to hunting, Sonic would become dinner on my plate."
"Then why haven't you caught him yet?" Ike eyed Snake.
He glared at Ike which brought chills down his spine.
"I just went easy on him the whole time. Why hunt when we already got food? And hunting Sonic sounds pretty fun right now. Reminds me of one time. . ." Snake rubbed his chiseled beard and smirked. "I tried to teach Mario how to use a gun. Luckily, I'm nice enough to keep him from blowing his balls off. That'd be the end of Super Mario Virgin. I'm going to catch that hedgehog dead or alive." With that, Snake headed for breakfast.
Marth and Ike glanced at each other, speechless for a second.
"Uh, ok. Snake and Pit wanna hunt Sonic. The competition is heating up, isn't it?" Marth said.
"I should have kept my mouth shut," Ike muttered.
"Y-you bastards! Left me. . . in the fucking pool!"
An angry voice appeared beside them. Roy. Pale as a ghost with icicles hanging from his nose. He hugged his body, approaching the two swordsmen.
"Oh. Shit." Ike and Marth said.
"Y-you!" Roy glared at them, pointing at the two of them. "I'll. . . KILL YOU!" The redhead let out a disaster of a sneeze before collapsing straight in the hallway.
Marth froze at Roy's conditions. "Did we do that to him?"
"Seems like it." Ike nodded. "He slept in a pool of water the whole night."
"That begs the question: do we really care when he ate our chocolate that was supposed to be a gift from Makato?"
Marth and Ike both turned at each other, knowing the perfect answer.
"No!" Laughter escaped from their lips, as Roy laid on the ground lifeless.
"Yes, I did some research on Makato, and she's actually a princess. Princess of Potions." Zelda spoke with Samus without her power suit, as they strode down the halls.
"Wow. Well. . . I mean. . . I'm not really surprised at this point." Samus said.
As they kept walking, they stopped their steps when they saw Ike and Marth laughing as Roy's body was dead on the ground.
"What did you do to Roy?! Again?!" Samus raged, pulling out her plasma whip.
"I can't believe you two!" Zelda stretched forth her hand as her palm sparkled in magic.
"Huh?" Ike and Marth shut their laughter when the two girls charged at them with their attacks.
(oOoOoOo)
9:00 AM
Breakfast was ready and most of the Smashers feasted themselves to the main dish cinnamon rolls with frosting. Marth, Ike, Snake, and Pit were on the lookout for Sonic as they ate, but nowhere was the blue blur.
"Hey, Yoshi?" Ike never spoke to Yoshi that sat beside him.
"What do you need Ike?" Yoshi asked.
"Is Sonic here?"
"No."
"Um, ok. Where is he?"
"He's out on a run like usual."
"Oh ok, thanks, Yoshi. Fucking useless. . ."
Makato entered the dining table seeing a crowd of Smashers eating and mingling amongst themselves. She glanced at Miru on her shoulder before spotting Peach waving to her. "Good morning, Peach."
"Good morning." Peach smiled, as Makato sat beside her. "How was your sleep last night? Any good dreams~?"
Ike overheard Peach's little question from a distance and still managed to choke on his cinnamon roll. Smasher around the mercenary gave Ike a concerned look.
"Are you ok Ike?" Fox asked.
Ike cleared his throat, feeling his face getting hot. "O-of course I'm fine."
Makato smiled at the cinnamon roll in front of her and held her fork. "To be honest, I never slept like a baby in like. . . forever. It was quite relaxing."
"That's great to hear!" Peach said.
"You know cinnamon rolls are my favorite. I'm so happy we're having this!" Makato took a piece into her mouth feeling the buttery, yet the sugary taste of warm bread and cream cheese frosting in one bite. "Also, Peach. I haven't seen Roy since yesterday. I wanted to thank him when he gave out the chocolate to Marth and Ike. . . But. . . "
Marth, also hearing Makato's conversation about Roy, choked on his tea, which caught glances of other Smashers.
"Are you ok Marth?" Link asked worriedly.
"I-I'm fine. Hehehe. . . tea went in the wrong pipe."
"Sure."
"What they did to Roy was unforgivable. . ." Samus muttered, smashing the glass of milk in her bare hands. Peach and Makato gasped at the sight with milk all over her hand.
"Oh my, Sammy! Your hand!" Peach quickly handed her a towel.
"It's nothing. . ."
"What happened to Roy?" Makato asked.
Samus sighed, poking the cinnamon roll with her fork. "They left him in a pool overnight and now he has the worst fever ever. . ."
"Roy. . ." Makato frowned.
"You guys are acting weird today," Ness said, eating the last bites of his cinnamon roll.
Ike rolled his eyes. "And you're saying your big-ass head and your thick accent isn't weird?"
"Sh-shut up!"
"Attention everyone!" Mario called out at the dining table. "We'll be using Makato's potions as items in a brawl today, so I recommend everyone to test them out! Right, Makato?"
Makato nodded. "Yes. I put a special time limit on the potions so when guys brawl, you won't be like that permanently. I'll have a cart ready with many potions."
"Wow! I can't wait."
"Sounds fun. Never drank a potion before."
"Same here!"
The hype sparked the whole dining table to try out potions while they brawl today which was a good sign on Makato's behalf. As the conversations of potions brewed out, Makato picked an extra cinnamon roll and placed it on a separate plate from her own.
"Oh! This is your fifth one!" Peach giggled.
Makato let out a nervous laugh as she shook her head. "It's not for me. I want to check on Roy."
(oOoOoOo)
Once Makato found Roy's name on his door, she knocked on his door, holding a cinnamon roll with a red bubbly drink on the plate.
"Tweet, tweet!" Miru chirped on her shoulder, poking her cheek.
"It'll be okay, Miru. I just want to make sure he's okay." Makato said. With that, she waited for a response, before giving another knock to the door.
"Roy, are you in there? It's me, Makato. Are you okay?"
The door opened once she spoke, revealing Roy with tissues up his nostrils. "M-Makato! Uh. . . Hi. . ." Roy covered his lips with his elbow, letting out a sneeze. He rubbed his hair, letting in a sniffle. "I'm so embarrassed. . . you, seeing me like this."
Roy opened the door for her as she let herself in, seeing massive balls of tissues around his bedside, and the TV on with Street Fighter on. Makato set the plate on his nightstand and folded her hands.
"Roy, I heard you had a really bad fever. I'm quite worried. . ."
Roy walked over to his bed and sat slowly. "How kind of you. . . It's just a little cold! Haha. . ." Another sneeze left his lips.
"I brought you breakfast: a cinnamon roll with frosting. And I also brought one of my potions for you to drink. A healing potion. In approximately five seconds, your fever will fade away."
Roy spotted the red bubbly drink and picked up the glass cup. "Wow, a healing potion? Beats cough syrup. . . Thank you so much."
"Make sure you drink the whole thing." Makato smiled. "You'll be the first in this mansion to try my potions. I'm quite excited to get a reaction from you."
Roy blushed, taking a glance at her ocean eyes before staring at the cup. "I feel. . . super lucky. And honored! Bottoms up!" He lifted the glass and drank it all in one shot. As she said, five seconds passed and his whole body became rejuvenated. His skin glowing back to his normal tone color. His nostrils were opened. His throat was cleared from mucus. Energy rushed back to not only his body but his soul as well.
"I feel. . . better. W-wow! I'm healed!" Roy widened his eyes from the drink. "Yahoo! Awesome! I'm cured!"
Makato smiled. "I'm glad it worked."
Roy got up from his bed and stared at Makato. "You're so kind. . . and considerate. Thank you so much."
Before she had a chance to react, Roy wrapped his arms around her body, pulling her into an embrace.
"R-Roy. . ." Makato was taken back from the hug with arms still on her side.
"Ah, sorry! I. . ." Roy pulled out immediately and let out nervous laughter. "Um, do you want to play Street Fighter with me?"
"Street Fighter?" Makato checked the screen of Roy's TV, seeing many fighting characters on the menu. "I would like to. . . it seems a lot of fun. I think Mario will get angry if I don't prepare the potions for the brawl today."
"They can wait! Pretty please?" Roy pressed his hands together and bowed his head.
(oOoOoOo)
As breakfast came to an end, Ike waited near the front door with a roll of rope over his shoulders, waiting for the moment Sonic stepped into the mansion. Marth stood beside Ike with an apple in his hand. "What are you planning?"
"What does it look like? I'm trying to catch Sonic." Ike answered.
"With rope? Come on, that's so old school. Sonic will not fall for that."
"Heh, we'll see."
"Oh, God."
The door began to open, and Ike loosen the rope and made an instant knot. "Time to-!"
A foot appeared from the door, and Ike clenched his fist. Marth furrowed his eyebrows, at his fist rather than the rope.
"Why do you have your fist. . .?"
A body appeared from the door.
"Great punch aether!" Ike threw a punch at someone that wasn't Sonic, but King Dedede with a fresh, new black eye.
"What the fuck?!" King Dedede was sent flying in pain as he cried.
"Oh. . . it's you." Ike released the tension of his fist.
"What you mean?!" King Dedede barked. "Just trying to do some morning shopping!"
Ike gathered the rope to himself before letting out another sigh. "I don't think rope would cut it. Something more. . . different." Ike walked away and Marth followed him from behind.
"You didn't even use the rope."
As the mercenary went up the stairs and to his room, he stopped by Roy's room hearing lots of shouting and screams. "Roy's alive? I thought he was sick."
Marth tilted his head. "I hear another voice. Makato?"
Ike's face darkened. "What?" He then walked up to Roy's door, feeling enraged.
"Let's listen through the door first before doing anything," Marth suggested.
"Whatever. . ."
Ike and Marth leaned over to the door, hearing more screams and shouts.
"Damn it!" Roy cried out. "How?! I'm gonna kill you!"
"This isn't so fair, Roy. I barely even-."
"Screw that! No mercy! Time to die!"
"No. . .!"
Marth sweatdropped, watching Ike's expression becoming darker and darker. Before the prince could stop him, Ike already had his hand on the knob as he burst himself into the room.
"Roy! You're dead!"
Roy and Makato looked over to Ike in a gaze, letting the background music play on Street Fighter. An awkward silence filled the room.
"Why am I dead? Oh, wait! You tried when you left me to die!" Roy said.
His eyebrows twitch, and Ike took glances at Makato, who heard it all for the first time.
"Hello, Ike." Makato greeted.
"Y-yo. . ." Ike waved a shaky hand toward the potion princess.
"We don't have such electronics in my home. Thank you, Roy. But I think I should get going. . ."
"Yeah, no problem!" Roy said. "We'll continue our battle later."
Makato then got up from the chair and left the room. She paused, greeting Marth along the way. Marth gave a light smile and greeted her before entering Roy's room.
"So what happened?" Marth asked.
Roy crossed his arms. "What does it look like? We were playing a video game."
"One moment you had a fever and now. . .?"
"Oh? Makato gave me a healing potion. Guess what? I was the first one! Me!" Roy grinned, letting out a snicker.
"Wow. I am sooo jealous." Ike said in a sarcastic tone. "Whatever, once I catch Sonic. . ."
Roy's eyes lit up. "Catch Sonic?"
"Catch Sonic. Yeah. He's an ingredient for Makato's potions."
"W-what?! Sonic?! An ingredient?! No way! I feel bad for Sonic, but at the same time, I'm kinda curious! I wanna try catching him for myself."
"I'm starting to feel bad for Sonic. . ." Marth muttered.
(oOoOoOo)
10:00 AM
"What a run. Woo~" Sonic entered the mansion with a bunch of white flowers in his hands. After setting them in an empty vase, Sonic felt a handgun right at the back of his quills.
He turned slowly, seeing Snake with a sinister grin spread across his face.
"Very funny, Snake." Sonic raised his hands to the air
"Nobody's laughing. It's about time I finish the hunt. Unless you wanna live, start walking to Makato's room."
"Makato's room? Why?"
"So you can get turned into a potion. Why else?"
"Um. . ." Sonic sweatdropped. "Ok, I'll go."
Snake let out a scoff. "Easier than I thought. Start walking-"
"If you can catch me!" Sonic zoomed past Snake before he had a chance to pull the trigger. Snake gritted his teeth and slammed the gun on the ground.
"Damn it!"
With a safe distance, Sonic began walking down the hallways by himself. "I don't like the sound of becoming an ingredient. . . Best if I stay away from her. . . Oh-"
A perfectly nice, juicy chili dog was on a plate. Hot and ready in the middle of the hallway. Sonic walked closer to it, rubbing his chin. As he reached for the chili dog, Kirby flew over him and grabbed the plate. The moment he did, a steel cage landed on top of him, trapping the puffball.
"Poyo! What the heck?!" Kirby said.
Sonic shook his head. "Too good to be true."
"Damn it, Kirby. It's not for you!" Marth approached the steel cage with Kirby eating the chili dog.
Marth looked at Sonic and scratched his chin before taking focus on the wall. "Well! Time to brawl. . ."
(oOoOoOo)
Many of the Smashers enjoyed the time using the potions for their brawls. As Ike finished up his brawl, he grabbed a potion that was labeled "sleep", putting it for good use to lure and trap Sonic.
He headed to the kitchen, opened the fridge, and grabbed a jug of orange juice. Getting a glass cup, he mixed the sleeping potion with orange juice. The drink sparkled up a bit before settling down.
'According to the sleeping potion in the brawl, he should be asleep for about twelve seconds. That's enough to get him to Makato's room. . . hehehe. . .'
It was perfect timing for Ike when Sonic entered the kitchen.
"Hey, Ike. What's shaking?" Sonic greeted.
"Yo. Want some orange juice?" Ike slid the glass cup to Sonic on the counter.
Sonic smiled at the drink and lifted the drink toward his lips. Before he could get a taste, a bunch of kids crashed into Sonic, knocking the juice from his hands as it crashed down to the ground.
Ness snorted out a laugh. "Whoa! Sorry!"
"My bad!" Lucas said.
"We're playing hide-and-seek! You're in the way!" Toon Link said.
Sonic and Ike watched the kids as they scurried away from the kitchen.
"Fucking ruined my plans. . ." Ike tightened his fist.
"It's not a problem. . . I can get myself another drink." Sonic assured.
(oOoOoOo)
After Sonic served himself a refreshing glass of orange juice, he left the kitchen, making a right turn out.
"Hey, Sonic!"
Sonic heard Pit's voice, and soon his arms were bound from the angel. Pit held him, soaring through the air as he placed a breathing hose in his mouth.
Sonic muffled his words through the hose, confused about the whole situation. His eyes spotted a large fishbowl filled with water.
"In you go!" Pit flapped in place and released the blue hedgehog into the water.
"Mmmffph!" Sonic panicked, feeling the cold water as he splashed in.
"Bingo! I win!" Pit landed on the ground, placing his hand on the glass. "Sorry, Sonic, I need you in here till 11:30."
Sonic tried jumping up to land, but the water only slowed his movements, keeping him stuck in the water.
With Sonic trapped in the large fishbowl, those who wanted to catch Sonic gathered around Pit the fishbowl.
"You actually caught Sonic," Roy said.
"Impossible." Ike shook his head.
"Yep. Cool huh?" Pit grinned widely.
"Well, that's that." Marth sighed, rubbing his head.
Snake let out a grunt, still a bit salty about not catching Sonic.
(oOoOoOo)
11:30 AM
The time came for Sonic. It was 11:30 AM. Makato walked toward the area where she noticed a fishbowl from a distance and a bunch of Smashers staring at the fishbowl.
"It's Sonic. . . the blue hedgehog." Makato walked closer to the fishbowl, placing her hand on the bowl. Eyes fixated on Sonic, and Sonic's eyes locked onto her own.
"Yeah! I caught him!" Pit waved for her attention.
"So what's gonna happen to him?" Marth asked.
"Amputate. Amputate. Amputate." Ike chanted.
"Rest in pieces, Sonic," Roy said.
Makato looked at Pit, remembering what he said. "Can you take him out?"
"S-sure!" After Pit flew up and pulled Sonic out of the water, Sonic let out a sneeze, hugging his body.
Makato kneeled over to him, looking at him eye to eye.
Sonic began rubbing his nose. "What?"
"Do you. . . remember me?" Makato asked, pointing to herself. "It was a long time ago when I was young. You saved me from a wild boar."
Sonic stared at her for a while in her eyes, before widening his eyes. "Now that I think about it, you do look like that girl from before. . . Yeah."
Makato smiled. "Because of you, I'm alive. So thank you. There's something I want from you that you have, and it'll be very beneficial for my potion."
"W-what is it?" Nerves rang through Sonic's body. "You're not taking my head or legs or my heart are you?"
She let out a small giggle. "Your quills. One quill at the least."
"What?" Sonic froze.
"What?" The Smashers around Makato abruptly asked.
That's all for this chapter! Hope you enjoyed it! Plz comment! :3
