Chapter 59: Girl Meets Niho
12:00 P.M.
The villagers in Niho were all found in the emergency shelter by the Dark Knights and were treated roughly. Almost like slaves. The men had to work with only little breaks to create Mikoru's ideal of Utopia. Women and children weren't harmed, but were punished if they tried to escape the emergency shelter itself, or any disrespect on Mikoru's name. Or the Dark Knights'.
The Faithful Knights had to work on building this Utopia as well, even Miru's father and brother. Most of the Dark Knights either worked on making a new town or just patrolled the area. The whole village from head to toe swarm with Dark Knights. No one could escape.
It only felt like yesterday for Makato. She scrunched herself into a ball, on her rarely used bed. still thinking, still dreaming, still remembering that explosion from a far.
It wouldn't leave her mind, even if she wanted to forget. It would forced for to remember. She stared at her old room ceiling, thinking on one thought. Could they be really dead? Were the Smashers. . . really gone? This couldn't be. It felt like yesterday when a war was going on. Now ended in such a nuclear form. Makato squeezed herself more. She wanted to cry, but her tears weren't coming since that massive explosion. She wanted to scream, but her throat turned into sandpaper. She thought of suicide. What else could she do? If the Smashers were dead, and so was her childhood friend, what was the point of living?
No, she couldn't think that way. At least, a princess shouldn't think such mad thoughts. She wanted someone to talk to. Her parents weren't even an option. Ever since she came back to her hometown, she was told her parents were kept as hostages until further noticed. When will further noticed come?
Makato was a prisoner to her own room. She was like a bird in a cage. Her room however, was oddly cleaned. She left her bed observe her room. Still there were some empty bottles for potion making. There were no potions. There wasn't a black big pot in the middle. It seemed her room was checked and cleaned out of anything that involved some kind of assault.
She was changed out of her nightgown and into some of her old clothing that she used to wear while living here. A casual pink and black dress with some long black socks on. She was told before then to freshen herself up of course. After all, Mikoru didn't wanted her to catch a cold. Makato bought so many clothes during her time in the Smashville area, she was surprised that her favorite dresses had fitted perfectly on her, thinking that she might had gained some weight.
A booming hammering sound came through the door a couple of times. She ignored it. The same horrid sound came again, with addition of Dark Knights, marching into her room. Makato shot her head up. For a second, Makato thought she glanced at Medusa's eyes. As the marching grew louder, her room began to fill up with black cloaks and silent stares. She only wondered whether they want to make some kind of blood contract with her or they be willing to drag her out of the room, if she didn't follow orders. A woman that stood out amongst the soldiers hollered out Makato's name in such a formal and brisky way. The Dark Knights spittled up into to pathways, presenting only the woman who held responsible for this.
She made her distance from Makato. "Fufufu! Hello, Princess Makato!" It happened to be Makato's aunt. Or Miru's mother. She wore a dark elegant dress that covered her hands and her feet. More like a walking ghost in the dawn. Makato didn't responded and waited for her to speak even more lies or just nonsense she was uninterested about.
"I'm here to bring you some important news, so be a good girl and listen." Michelle smirked. Makato glared and Michelle knew that would piss her off. "With the rebuilt of Mikoru's new kingdom progressing, it'll take a week to finish. With some magic of course from the Dark Knights and many, many people. And when June 8th comes, you'll be married to Lord Mikoru. Or Future King of Niho." Michelle grinned. "Isn't that just wonderful?!"
'Figures as much. . .' Makato sweat dropped from the thought of it.
"There will be consequences," Michelle gave her no time to think more of the possibilities of no marriage, "if you don't agree, Princess. Such as, your parents and the villagers. Mikoru couldn't care less about those fools." Michelle walked up to Makato so where she could see her displeased face.
"So anyways, I just want you to know. You do know you'll be staying here for a week till your engagement comes, right?"
"How can you be so certain?" Makato interrupted her. Michelle adjusted her hands under her sleeves. "It's 100% a fact, Princess." Michelle answered.
The princess furrowed her brows. "How you act so formal. Why is that?"
"You are Princess of Niho and potions. I don't see why I must not."
"You used to call me 'Makato' or 'Niece'."
Michelle didn't say anything for a while. She then continued. ". . .That was in the past. I'm sure you know now that I'm-"
"You're a demon in disguise." Makato snarled out. "A liar. You are a horrible woman. No, a horrible mother."
"Fufufu! Still thinking about that? I do not care for my family no more. But it's good to see that my son is strong and healthy."
Makato despised her guts. She never hated anyone so bad than Mikoru. Makato got up from her bed and the soldiers reacted from her sudden position. Michelle made a hand gesture to assure them, it's alright. "Leave, before you disturb my peace even more." Makato warned her.
"Don't be like that Princess Makato." Michelle said in a girly tone for the first. "I want us to have fun."
"Fun? Don't make me laugh." Makato recognized Michelle as her enemy. Nothing more. She didn't want anything to do with her. Ever since that day. . . However, Michelle kept on provoking her.
"Let's have some time together like the good old days-"
"Shut up. You annoy me." Makato spatted.
"Oh my." Michelle laughed, bringing her fake smile. "You speaking such foul language is very surprising. You wouldn't want to upset Lord Mikoru with your new actions now, don't we? He is your future husband after all."
After that final sentence, Makato immediately stomped up to Michelle and glared up at her. The Dark Knights were ready to attack, if Michelle ever gave that order. "He will never be my husband. And my words can be as rotten as the gutters, but it'll never be as disgusting as your hands." When Makato finished what she had to say, it ticked off Michelle when Makato mentioned her hands. She worked hard to reach such power and yet, Makato called them off. Disgusting.
It was a fact, they were disgusting. Her hands were a demon's hand. Warts, dark odd colors on her monster hands. The smell of bloodless animals on the road. Mikoru wouldn't allow her to walk around freely with her hands showing like that, which was why she had to wear special gloves to keep her hands normal of a human's. Michelle dropped the fake smile. "You. . . little girl." The older woman muttered. "Don't make me angry."
(oOoOoOo)
Mikoru was watching from the view of most of Niho. The castle was very famous and known for their eagle eye-viewing window. And Mikoru was just very fond over it.
He made a happy sigh while the three Dark Knights and some others watched him from a short distance.
"It feels great to get what you want." Mikoru spoke to himself. Or at least to the three Dark Knights that were behind him Yumi, Mike, and Jacob.
Yumi grinned. "Seeing him happy makes me happy!" She quietly squealed.
Mikoru turned around to face the three. "I did promise some soldiers to BBQ last night." Mikoru recalled.
"Barbeque?!" Mike exclaimed out, excitedly.
"Yes," Mikoru nodded, "For your hard work, you're welcome to join me, Yumi. . ."
"R-really?!" Her face brightened up even more. Mike pouted. "Aww. . ." Jacob kept silent as usual.
"Mike, Jacob, and that goes for the rest of the Dark Knights here." Mikoru spoke loudly, "Keep guard over this castle while I'm out for some Nihonian barbeque." He ordered them. The Dark Knights proudly answered back. "Yes, Milord!"
A thought went through Jacob's mind, "Milord, you know there was a war here, and the place for Nihonian barbeque is likely destroyed."
"J-Jacob!" Yumi blurted as she hurried over to the black-haired teen, "Don't ruin this chance for me!" She angrily whispered.
"Milady, I'm just stating the obvious." He answered back.
"Such nonsense." The three Knights turned their heads to Mikoru, a little misled from his response.
"Before the war, I also added not to destroy that restaurant." Mikoru gave an cold stare to the three, as if he was blaming them. Jacob lowered his head. "My apologies."
Mikoru sighed and crossed his arms slowly. "Then again, I wasn't here so. . . If not, I can have it rebuilt. The people that worked there will come from the shelter, if they survived. And we'll just gather more food supplies." Mikoru turned his head to Yumi. "Yumi, we'll leave at two."
"Yes, Milord!" She saluted him. Mike only muttered, "Lucky."
Mikoru made contact with Dark Knights that were in charge of guarding the emergency hideout and told them to get the people of Nihonian BBQ if the place was still in existence. Fortunately, it was.
"Ok, and that's that." Mikoru sighed. Still observing the construction work of his new kingdom, he grinned. "Maybe, I should check on Makato."
"Mikoru, my lord! We got trouble!" A small clump of Dark Knights ran up to Mikoru. He turned his head to them, noticing their heavy breathing and some slight bruises. The evil lord arched an eyebrow, scanning them. "Such as?"
One of the soldiers explained the madness that was happening as he spoke. Mikoru became furious hearing this unexplainable news. "They're fighting?!"
(oOoOoOo)
"And none of you nitwits did anything to stop it?!" Mikoru hurried down the halls angrily while a trail of Dark Knights that were with Michelle, followed him.
"Milord, we tried!" One of them cried out.
"What do you mean you tried?! Next time it'll be a noose to your necks!"
"Forgive our mentally defective heads!" The Dark Knights said. Mikoru and the Dark Knights reached to the destination to where Makato's room was, just only some distance away from the door.
Mikoru was about to take a step forward to the door, until a sudden burst of explosion blew from the inside of her room. A figure was sent flying out of her room and crashed against the walls. The Dark Knights were surprised and quickly gathered around the figure. "Who was that?!"
"Ah, it's Lady Michelle!"
"Are you okay?!"
"You need some serious aid!"
Mikoru was confused. Was Makato responsible for this? Was she the one who made the damages to Michelle?
'Her potions are all out of her room, so how come?'
"Know your place, woman." A girl's voice spoke out. Mikoru turned his head to see Makato standing right in front of her door way, perfectly fine, perfectly unharmed in anyway. He was stunned.
'Wait, what? She's herself? How did she defeat Michelle? She's weak in the physical!'
Makato's eyes met Mikoru's. She showed him a resentful look before she entered herself back into her room. Mikoru wasn't going to let that slide as he walked up to her door. "Take care of MIchelle," Mikoru ordered the Dark Knights. "I'll be right back."
"Yes, Milord!"
Mikoru made no signs of himself being polite as he slammed her door wide opened, then closing it shut. Makato sat on her bed and showed some signs of her startled-ness when he came in.
"Makato Dear,"
"I did not invited you to come to my room." Makato interrupted him. "Leave now."
"You best behave," Mikoru walked up to her until he was able to stare into her cold eyes. Makato wasn't frightened at his presence, but seriously wanted a punch to his face was the best choice to describe how she was feeling. "Makato-"
"Leave me alone."
Mikoru grew angry from her childish behavior.
"I don't want you near me!" Makato ordered.
"Why did you hurt Michelle?" More like, Mikoru wanted to know how she was able to injure her.
"She annoyed me." Makato simply replied, "She wouldn't stop talking."
". . . I mean what I said, Makato." Mikoru forcefully grabbed onto her cheeks till she had no other sight but him. "You shouldn't throw a tantrum, just because everyone you cherished is taken away from you. You're mine. Don't forget that." He raised her voice at her and at the same time, he regretted it. She did had the right to act like a spoil brat. Mikoru later then heard sniffling.
"You. . ." Makato tightly closed her eyes while little drops of salt water poured out from her eyes. Then there was a jumpscare for Mikoru when Makato rightafter opened them widely and furiously. "This is all your fault!"
Mikoru was lucky by a hair to stop her sudden attack with his hand. He grabbed hold of her wrist and fixed his eyes onto her strange glowing hand.
"What is this power?" Mikoru muttered. Makato tried to remove here hand from her grasp, but it was impossible.
"Tell me." He demanded an answer. Makato stood silent and removed her sight away from his eyes, making her cries silent.
"Don't make me break your wrist." He threatened her.
"It's your fault." Makato spoke.
"Yes, it's my fault, so what? Everything you loved is dead and gone. You are mine. If you don't do as I say, your parents will die."
"No, not my parents. . . no. . . please. . ." She wailed softly. Her hand stopped glowing and Mikoru could only assumed she calmed down. He gently released her hand.
'She finally calmed down. . .' Mikoru sweat dropped. 'Yet, why was I so afraid? Just a minute ago, her darkside revived itself. . . perhaps she need this comfort.'
"Makato," Mikoru said her name almost like a whisper. "Would you like to see your parents?"
Makato shot up her head at him. Mikoru couldn't lie about his sudden flinch when she stared at him with her big ocean blue eyes. "Are you serious?!"
"J-just for a minute!" Mikoru exclaimed. "I hate to see you in such a way. . ." Mikoru didn't want to experience that ever again. Seeing her waifu upset. Mikoru placed his hands on her face once more to wipe away her fallen tears. Makato stared at him in the eyes, couldn't see through his emotions.
Right after, Mikoru turned his back to her. "If you have nothing else to say, then I'll make my leave. I'll bring you to your parents tomorrow. I don't want some kind of misunderstanding." Mikoru then said.
"Wait," Makato tugged unto her finely dressed shirt, which kinda triggered Mikoru just a little. He turned his head to the girl. "What?"
Makato boldly stared at his eyes and placed a half smile right after. "Thank you."
Mikoru felt like his whole body had fallen into pieces.
He knew he had lost this round.
