Disenchantment Sagas Chapter 47 - Exotic Insects
Koga woke up in the knight's barracks to the birds singing outside. The sky was clear, and the sun shone through the barracks windows. Koga was taking one of the evening naps he would always take when he was bored or wanted to pass the time. Today, Koga was going to do one of his favourite hobbies. "It's about that time!" He said as he hopped out of bed and grabbed a net and his pouch from under it. "Net, check! Pouch, check! Big ass sword that cuts everything up? CHECK!"
Miri (Mop girl) would peek into the knight's barracks. "Oh, you're up! I was coming to wake you!" said Miri, carrying her pouch.
"Sup Miri! Are you ready to go?" Koga asked.
"Yeah!" She replied with a nod.
"Oh, how could I almost forget!" said Koga. He blows his thumb and fingers into his mouth, whistling. Trevor, Koga's pet beetle, came flying from his side of the bed and landed on his shoulder.
Koga and Miri walked down the stone halls together. Koga was in a pleasant mood as he hummed to himself happily. Besides napping, eating pudding and going on random adventures, finding cool-looking insects was at the top of his list. All he could think about as he made his way to exit the castle was finding the best-
"OH HEY KOGA!" said Turbish, calling out to him. He and Mertz walked over to Koga and Miri. "What are you up to?"
Koga flinched and turned to Turbish angrily. "Wouldn't you dorks like to know?" He asked aggressively.
"Where are you going with the mop girl?" asked Mertz, curiously.
"None of your business?" said Koga, scowling. "As you can see, I am in the middle of important business. So, if you will excuse me!"
"Byeeeee!" said Turbish, waving at them.
Koga and Miri walked out of the castle and into the courtyard. Koga regained his cheerful thoughts as he thought about his insect- "Hey, Koga!" said Elfo, calling out to him. Koga flinches again and turns around to see Bean, Elfo and Luci walking over to them. "Oh, it's the three stooges…" said Koga.
"Sup Koga!" said Bean, smiling. Her smile faded when she looked down at Miri. "Oh…mop girl?"
"It's Miri," She replied dryly.
"Where are you two headed off to?" Elfo asked.
"Koga and I are going out bug hunting," said Miri.
"That sounds incredibly boring…" said Luci, looking disappointed.
"Can we come?" Elfo asked.
"Why?" said Koga, raising a brow.
"Because we're boooored!" The three of them said.
Koga rubs his face and sighs. "Fine…"
"WOOHOOO!" said Bean, elfo and luci.
…
The group entered the enchanted forest, and Koga and Miri examined every little spot they could reach. Bean, Elfo and Luci watched the two rummaging around bushes and looking around trees.
"If you guys wanted to find bugs, you should go into Elfo's room. There are tons of bugs in Elfo's bed," said Luci.
"HEY! I can't help it if I attract bugs sometimes!" said Elfo, glaring at Luci.
"We're looking for exotic bugs, not bed bugs," said Koga, annoyed as he continued to look up at the trees.
"We're looking for horny bugs?" asked Elfo.
Koga groans. "No…not erotic…exotic! Exotic bugs are unique, rare bugs with really cool patterns on their bodies," He explained. "Like Trevor right here." Koga's pet beetle flaps his wings excitedly.
"Or like this," Miri takes a journal from her pouch and shows a nicely drawn spider picture.
"AHHH!" Elfo screams and falls over.
"It's just a drawn picture…" said Miri.
"Hey, wait…" said Bean, looking at the journal Miri was holding. "That's Tavish's insect journal!"
"Yeah, it is!" Miri nodded. "Tavish let me borrow it when I told him Koga and I were going out looking for insects."
"Oh wow…he let you borrow something…any time I try to ask for it, he acts so stingy…" said Bean, frowning and crossing her arms.
"You and Tavish used to go bug hunting?" Miri asked.
"Yeah, I used to tag along with him when I was little because I was bored...that's all…" Bean looked away from her. "I mean, he used to show me all the bugs and got excited when he found something cool. I didn't understand it, but I was happy to be with him-You know what, never mind!" She walked away from Miri and over to Koga.
Luci would stand next to Miri and whisper, "Brother issues…"
"SHUT UP LUCI!" Bean yelled. She looks down at Koga, who is still looking through some bushes. "So uh…hey Koga…"
"Sup," He replied.
"Sooo…umm…you and Miri had plans before we showed up today, huh?" She asked, tilting her feet back and forth.
"We're not a thing," Koga replied.
"W-What? I wasn't going to ask that!"
"Yes, you were," He said, looking deeper into the bushes. "WHOA!" He falls back.
A bird in a blue suit chirped, panicked, and flew out of the bushes into the trees above. The tiny fairy Sagatha, adjusting her green dress, flew into the air. "Well, at least I got paid for that five minutes," she said as she lit a tiny cigarette.
"Hey, Sagatha!" said Elfo, waving at her.
"Heey Elfo sweetie!" said Sagatha, cheerfully. "What are you all up to?"
"We're looking for exotic insects!" said Miri.
"Exotic bugs huh? Well, you're not in the right place in the enchanted forest if you want to look for exotic insects," said Sagatha, taking a puff of her cigarette and exhaling the smoke. "If you follow this path, make a right and head east of the forest, you'll find an area full of exotic bugs."
"REALLY?" Koga's eyes lit up, and he squealed.
"Yeah, but be warned, those bugs can be assholes," said Sagatha. "One spider tried to sneak out on his payment."
Luci squinted his eyes. "You did it with a spider?
"Hell yeah, eight legs are hot! Do you know what a man can do with eight legs? Hoo boy!"
Elfo shivered. "That's disgusting…"
"I had no idea that fairies were into Spiders…" said Bean.
"Enough about Spider kinks! OFF WE GO!" said Koga as he hurried down the path with Miri. Bean, Elfo and Luci followed close behind.
The group followed the path heading east of the enchanted forest. The further they went, the more insects they saw flying and crawling around the trees. Elfo was hit in the face by flying grasshoppers, and one flew into his mouth. "EWW ACK! AH!" He gagged. Koga rolled his eyes and said, "Oh come on, Elfo, it's just a grasshopper." Elfo replied, "So? I don't want them in my mouth!"
"Whoa…" said Koga, looking up. "Check out that moth!"
Bean, Elfo, Luci, and Miri looked up. Their eyes widened. A giant, long, bright red and yellow moth was at the base of the tree. Elfo shook in fear, Bean's jaw dropped in shock, Luci said, "Neat," and Miri's eyes lit up in awe.
"No way… I gotta catch it!" said Koga.
"WHAT?" said Bean and Elfo together.
"Yeah, let's catch it!" said Luci.
"Koga, what in the world are you going to do with a moth that big?" asked Miri.
"Keep as a pet, of course," said Koga, turning to her.
"NO!" said Bean, Elfo and Miri. "Where would you even keep something like that?!" Elfo asked
Koga would think about it. He would then say, "I'd find a way…"
Miri would grab Koga's hand and pull him forward as they continued down the path. The further they went, the more insects appeared—large butterflies, crickets, cate pliers, and ants. But something had caught Koga's eye that made him gasp. The group had stopped walking, and all stared at Koga. "What?" said Bean, "What is it?" Koga raised his arm and pointed up at a tree. On that said tree was a bright and gold scarab.
"Whooa…is that a golden beetle?" said Elfo.
"That's a Golden Beetle!" said Miri, gleaming. "It's one of the rarest beetles you can come across!"
"I've only heard Archie ever talk about it before…I never thought I'd see something so amazing…" said Koga. Trevor flaps his wings angrily. "Ok, ok…besides you, tervor." He rubs his finger across Trevor's back.
"Well, what do we have here?" said a voice from the bushes behind the group.
Bean and the others turned around and saw four unicorns appear. One was blue, one was pink, one was red, and one was yellow. The blue unicorn named Marcello stepped forward. "Two humans, one elf, a talking cat and a dwarf. You don't get those daily in the enchanted forest!" said the blue unicorn.
"Wait…did I just get called a dwarf?" said Miri.
"Are you not a dwarf?" Bean asked.
"No…I'm just really short…" said Miri, side glaring at Bean.
"So, what brings you all to the enchanted forest?" asked Marcello.
"We're just looking for exotic insects," said Koga. He points up at the Golden beetle. "Like that one up there!"
The Golden beetle would spread his wings and fly to where everyone was. Koga holds out his hand to try and catch it, but Marcello opens its mouth and eats the golden beetle. Koga's eyes widen, and his jaw drops. Marcello would groan in pleasure as he swallowed the beetle. "Delicious!" He smiled.
"W-What have you done…?" Koga asked in shock.
"What? Beetles are a delicacy to us unicorns!" said Marcello. "We come here every so often to feast!"
"Like birds!" said Red unicorn. A bird flies through the air and then hops up to catch it in his mouth. Bean, Elfo and Miri shouted in shock as he watched the unicorn munch on the bird.
"NOICE!" said Luci.
"Oooh, is that a Herculean beetle on your shoulder?" said Mercello. "Allow me!" He opened his mouth to move his head towards Koga's shoulder. But Koga then met him with a swift punch to the face.
"HEY! YOU CAN'T PUNCH UNICORNS!" said The yellow unicorn, but then was met with a swift punch to the face.
The unicorns made whaling noises as they all trotted off into the forest, running away in a panic. "THAT'S RIGHT YOU BASTARDS RUN AWAY!" Koga shouted at them.
"You think that was a bit much?" Bean asked.
"Nope," said Koga, holding Trevor close to him. "And he ate the golden beetle! UGH! That could be the only time we'll ever see another one! Damn it! How could this day get any worse?!"
Elfo would shake his head. "I wouldn't jinx that if I were you Kog-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" A giant yellow jacket bee picked up Elfo by the back of his shirt and carried him into the air.
"ELFOOO!" Bean screamed as she started running.
"Oh Goddamn it…" said Koga, rubbing between the bridge of his nose.
…
"Wow, that queen bee really had a thing for me," said Elfo, licking the honey off his fingers.
"Looks like you weren't kidding when you said you attract many insects," said Miri. "Also, Bean, you don't think Tavish would be mad if his insect journal got all sticky?" She held up the honey-covered journal.
"Nah, it'll be fine. I'll give it to him," Bean said as she took the journal.
"On the bright side, I have a jar full of honey," said Koga, smiling as he licked his lips. "That makes up for this little trip at least."
"Ugh…I feel so damn sticky and sweet…" Luci groaned.
"Looks like you're going to need a bath," said Bean, picking Luci up and scratching behind his ears.
"Hey! Don't treat me like an actual-ahhhhh that feels good…" Luci grinned as he closed his eyes.
"Sorry about the golden beetle, Koga," said Bean, looking over at him.
"It's cool! I'll come back at some point and find another one. It'll just take some time," said Koga as he stared at the honey jar. "I got some honey to put across some crackers when I return to the castle!"
"Hey, I got an idea Bean! How about all three of us take a bath together!" Elfo suggested.
"NO!" said Bean and Luci.
"Dang it…" said Elfo, sighing.
Miri pats his back. "Nice try, Elfo,"
