Azula sat at a bar waiting for an ankle biter. "Mom!" She looked down and got a bag from her little spark. "They never notice me." She said grinning, having done as her mom asked.
Azula counted the coin and she noticed her daughter not keeping eye contact with her, she already knew what that meant. "Little lady." She spoke in a half serious tone and Zaya showed her a handful of copper. "You can keep it, but next time just tell me." The girl looked at the floor.
Azula looked at her daughter and the girl spoke. "Sorry, mommy."
Azula sighed and thought. "I was never like this. I wouldn't have gotten caught."
Zaya looked into her mothers eyes. "I'm not mad at you dear. Just... don't lie to me." She told her, because she knew that lies can destroy and conquer and Azula wouldn't be beaten by her own daughter, not yet.
They left the bar and walked through the city. Azula and Zaya were wearing special shoes to hide from a certain blind mud queen and were looking for a bounty.
Zaya and Azula hated the city! It wasn't open or free like the towns where Zaya would run around, it didn't have the elegance that Ba Sing Se or the Fire Nation capital.
"This-place-is-too-loud!" the six year old moaned, not used to walking around so much and making so much noise.
"I know, Zaya, but we will only be here for a day or two." Zaya went limp while Azula held her hand. She just pulled the girl until she started walking again.
Azula had control of her daughter, not the kind her father had on her or the kind that mother had on Zuko. Strict, yet fair, was one way she would describe it. Because she would neither spoil or control her daughter like her so-called parents.
"Zaya, how about I find training grounds or a fire bending school? I bet you can beat the master there." Her daughter beamed. Anything to get off the streets.
an hour later.
"None..." said the little thief, devil, fire starter, tiny spark and Azula's little daughter.
They looked at the maps and all they found was a noodle place called Fire Noodles. Azula was laughing a bit. A place for all yet no place to train even the other arts didn't have schools! She started thinking this place was for the non benders of the world!
"Made for all four nations? The bender treatment here is equal to nothing." Zaya nodded pouting and Azula decided to leave her at a restaurant.
Zaya sat and drank her third smoothie.
Azula was walking through a building beating, electrocuting, burning and destroying fire benders left and right with blue flame, now a rarely used tool, was full blaze destroying her enemies with ease. When she reached the top floor, she was surrounded, and the former Fire Nation princess just grinned as an inferno was unleashed upon her.
Zaya had eaten fruit pie and drank 8 smoothies.
They stared as the fire became a sphere before it turned blue and was unleashed at the poor fire benders. They were either knocked to the ground or burned across their faces.
"So? Where is your boss?" She asked before one of the henchmen pointed to a desk and she walked toward and kicked it out of the way, revealing the Agni Kai triad leader hiding under it. "Ashes or walking?" She asked the man who cowered in front of her.
Zaya was now in a food coma.
Azula walked out of the building carrying a coward through the city. Azula just looked around and questioned why this city was so backwards. She remembered Ba Sing Se, where earth benders pushed hundreds of people through the city in less than 20 minutes, yet this "the city of four nations" didn't have something so simple? Pathetic.
She put her mask on- the same mask she wore to scare her brother and the Fire Nation to regain their spines!
She stepped into the police station "I have a bounty here." She spoke through a voice changer, making her sound much deeper and less human, as many questioned what was under the mask
The person on the information desk looked at the man, shocked seeing it was the leader of the Agni Kai triad.
She looked at Azula one look and she asked. "Well done miss…?"
Azula used a fake name for everything these days. "Zaya." You can tell why this was her favorite alter ego.
She was given her bounty Enough to get her a nice apartment in the center ring of Ba Sing Se.
Azula was about to leave but was stopped when a cable grabbed her arm. "Princess sparky."
Azula's first thought was. "burn her and the rest of them." Her second thought from her heart. "I need to get Zaya out of here."
Toph spoke. "You're under ar-" Before she finished azula let out a current of electricity through the line shocking toph. She spun, releasing fire, making the other officer look away and ran out of the police station, with a bag full of money.
Zaya woke up from her food coma yawning. "I want more pie!" She yelled before she saw her mom. She jumped at her joyfully cheer and hugged at her mother being back, zaya was held tight by the former princess as she ran through the crowd. She noticed the officers asking and jumped out of the crowd and opened the bag full of cash causing people to run to the streets blocking any officers' chances of tracking her.
Azula jumped across the roofs mumbling. "She shouldn't have been able to figure out it was me." She said in a calculating tone, already having a route planned and the escape started with a blue fire over the night sky.
The people of the United Republic of Nations watched, most thinking it to be a meteor falling to the earth; in reality, it was a fire bender flying through the night sky. Zaya looked at the city from the top to bottom. It was beautiful. The lights were like stars dancing at a party. She then saw a single light surrounded by the galaxy around it, and gave it a sad look.
On the island a boy stared at the light, amazed to see a blue falling star.
Azula and Zaya landed at the edge of the city after swimming through the ocean. "Breath through the nose and breath out through the mouth." Zaya nodded and did as told and breathed out fire. Azula made her body hotter causing the clothes to dry quickly and the water in her clothes turned to steam. "I need to find that shoe maker and show him the consequences of lying to us."
Zaya looked away, she didn't like it when her mother acted like this, vengefulness was something horrible when you were on the wrong side. Azula looked back to her daughter and graced her cheek, "I'm not angry at you, my little Zaya." Her daughter perked up at the calming words and then heard a groan from a gigantic beast.
Azula grabbed her daughter and gently went into the water so nothing was heard. "Dear hold your breath." She did as told and they both dived under the water. They saw a lantern light and Azula held Zaya's mouth letting her breath out through her nose.
Zaya was scared and wouldn't breath out until the lantern lights went away, her mother raised out of the water seeing if the people were gone, especially the avatar. She knew that the Badger Queen could see through the ground (thanks Katara and Aang), so hiding here was perfect.
After a few minutes Azula and Zaya got out of the water.
"Mom, who were they?" Zaya asked panting and Azula looked at her daughter. She sighed.
"Mommy made mistakes and many people are angry at me for it." Zaya hugged her mother's leg. "Zaya whatever happens don't fight the people after me ok?" Her daughter looked shocked and nodded. "But when you're ready you decide what you want to do." Zaya Hugged mothers tighter, tearing up, thinking she would lose Azula to her only family.
"I love you mom."
Azula finally hugged back. "Me too, Zaya."
