A/N: I am...adjusting with everything going on due to Coronavirus. at least I've started getting some of my Fanfic stories done. Just hope I can still have this kind of motivation.
Chapter 5 of Team PASM. You've already met the other students, who are most likely to be bound to be in Team PASM. I feel like I gave it away too much, then again...Rooster Teeth gave away Team RWBY before the series even started. Hehe.
Chapter 5: First Day
Patrick couldn't get much sleep after his visit with Amber last night. Not to mention how uneasy it is sleeping in a large ballroom with the entire student population. Minus one excluding Selena sleeping in one of the empty dorms.
Morning comes and the students are all getting ready. Hitting the restrooms and getting dressed. While Patrick is moving among the halls, he noticed Selena is no longer within the dorm room he found in her in. In fact, the place is completely abandoned. Almost like nobody ever used it in the first place.
"The girl must have gotten up early before everyone else..." Not very surprising for an idol like her. "Gotta admire her cunning spirit; I'll give her that."
"Taking a sneak peek at the dorms?" Patrick jumps a little. He turns to find a big but young boy. He's wearing black and silver armor with a large battle-ax, long blonde hair, and pretty muscular. In short, he's almost like a handsome knight in armor. "I doubt you can get any good views in these rooms."
Hearing that alarms Patrick, in a hostile sort of way. "What do you mean by that?"
"Aren't you getting a sneak peek to see you can get a good view at the girls changing in their rooms?" Patrick's right, and he can feel his rage building. "I'm telling you, there's nothing more fun than watching beauties changing in their private rooms." Patrick is fighting a strong urge to break every bone in his chiseled face. "If you want, I can teach you some of my secret skills to get a great view within being discovered...one of my tricks is to make it look like an accident..."
Then the guy gets a hard sucker on the head. Much to Patrick's surprise, it's not from him. "And just WHAT do mew think mew are doing!?" Patrick looks to see there's a Faunus girl, a cat with short red hair. She appears to be a bit short, about a little over 5 feet, but she can still reach the big guy to hit him in the head.
"Aww. Geez, take it easy Clawdia. I was just kidding." The guy says.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. You were just 'kitten' Don't forget I have already warned every teacher and facility about mew pervert ways." The girl turns her attention towards Patrick. "I A-paw-ogize for my cousin Peter here. He has a furry pur-vert nature."
"I can tell. I've dealt with his kind." Patrick says, unpleasantly.
"Wait. What do you mean kind...and dealt with?" Peter asks.
"None of your business," Patrick says, aggressively. He turns to the girl. "And you are?"
The girl is wearing a simple black shirt with a short long sleeve white jacket and blue pants with brown boots. "My name is Clawdia." Clawdia says.
"Clawdia...of course." Patrick grunts. "Cat Puns."
Clawdia's ears perk up in confusion. "What are mew talking about? This is how I normally talk. No Kitten."
"Now I apologize for my cousin," Peter says, then he looks down at Clawdia. "It's a phase she is going through. One she should have outgrown."
"It is not a phase! And what about mew? Mother said mew should have out-grown your cat-ittude with women! Mew are the one with the phase." Clawdia faces Patrick. "Meow, if mew will Paw-don us. We must be going for breakfast." Clawdia grabs Peter by the ear, who is bending down while caught in the grip and constantly repeating 'Ow' Clawdia walks past Patrick, then stops and turning back and looks at him. "May good Fur-tune be with you today, Fur-end." Then Clawdia and Peter take off.
Once they're gone, Patrick is finally able to let out his annoyed side. "Good grief. If what I hear about partnership and team happens, I really hope I won't wind up with them." Then he starts heading out.
Everyone gathers in the cafeteria. The whole area is packed, Patrick carries his breakfast tray and tries to find himself a place to sit. There are few areas to hit on but he just keeps looking, prefers to eat alone. After looking all over the cafeteria, he finds Selena, in her disguise, all alone in the corner. He has a feeling she would prepare it this way given to try and hide her fame.
"Hey." Selena became startled from hearing Patrick approaching her. "Relax. It's just me." Selena lets out a relieved sigh. Patrick grabs a chair and sits next to her. "I tried to check up on you this morning. But the dorm was empty."
"I'm a bit of an early bird," Selena says. "You get used to it as an Idol."
"Or as a Mercenary," Patrick says in a whisper.
"Hmm? Did you say something?" Selena asks.
"Nothing," Patrick says.
Patrick and Selena eat in silence for a while. After a while, Selena speaks. "I've been giving some thought about what you said last night." Patrick looks at her waiting for an answer. "You are right. I should give the other students a chance to get to know me for who I really am."
"So why are you still wearing your disguise?" Patrick asks.
"I'm still not completely sure if I want to do it. I mean, I don't know everyone in this school, or who to trust." Selena says.
"Makes sense. I just came across a sexist perv on my way here." Patrick says. Selena is alerted to hearing that. "Got a thing against Perverts too, Selena?"
Selena blushes. "P-Please don't use my real name. My cover name is Sherry."
"So much for thinking of my advice," Patrick says, sarcastically. "The guy's name is Peter. Big, good-looking. Wearing armor. Apparently is around a cat Faunus that speaks in Cat-puns."
"Oh yeah, I believe I saw him among a crowd somewhere," Selena says. "Thanks for the warning. Mother has always warned me about Pervert and harassers out there. You just can't trust those creeps." Hearing that sends a feeling of painful sadness within Patrick. Selena takes notice of his expression. "Is something wrong?"
Patrick looks away. "It's nothing."
Right after breakfast, the students head to the locker rooms. They all start retrieving their weapons stored within each of the lockers. During this time, Patrick starts filling up some of his arrows with Dust. Fire, Ice, Lightning, and Earth. In between his fillings, he looks at the students around.
He finds Akira and Marlene among the crowd. Akira is just meditating with her Katana in front of her. Marlene is making some adjustments for a pair of dual guns. He doesn't see Selena anywhere. Whatever she's doing, she probably wants to do it privately. He finds Clawdia but no Peter, and her weapon of choice appears to be two Fist Blades, 4 blades each. She's a cat Faunus with claws. No surprise.
"You seem to be a bit distracted." Then a door slam. Patrick turns to see the person talking. But he's surprised to see what she is.
"A Maid?" Patrick asks.
The Maid looks at him with a giggle. "Yes, of course." She performs a curtsy bow. "My name is Rayla Evergreen. It is a pleasure to meet you."
Patrick gets a full look at Rayla's outfit. "Is this some weird Cosplay you're doing?"
"Dear me, of course not. I truly am a Maid...Or rather a Maid-in-Training." Rayla says.
"A Maid-in-Training?" Patrick asks.
"That is right. My Mother serves as a Maid for one of the wealthiest families in Atlas." Rayla says.
"Schnee I bet," Patrick says.
"Not exactly, but they are close friends of the Schnee Family," Rayla says. "Anyways, as the duty of the Reinford, I am to learn the three important techniques of the Maid: Service. Elegance. And Combat."
Patrick's eyebrows perk up hearing the last part. "Combat? That's unexpected."
"I understand your shocked feeling. For as long as the Reinford Family existed, they became easy targets from Grimm and Bandits. They would have no trouble hiring Huntsman, but there are times when in the heat of battle, is when you had to have a personal bodyguard. One where, even facing Humans and Faunus Enemies, can come from somewhere unexpected and unpredictable."
"I suppose that makes sense," Patrick says. "And you've come to Beacon to become a Maid Huntress?"
"Indeed. Normally, I would go to Atlas, but Ironwood thought my training is better here in Beacon." Rayla says.
"Of course he would think that," Patrick says.
Glydia Goodwitch makes her announcement for the First Year Students."Would all first-year students please report to Beacon Cliff for Initiation? Again, all first-year students report to Beacon Cliff Immediately." Hearing that announcement has me on my feet and start making my way out of the locker room.
"It was wonderful to meet you," Rayla says, followed by a curtsy bow before leaving.
Patrick lets out a tiresome sigh. "Sexist pervert. Cat pun Faunus. a Celebrity in disguise and a Maid. This school has all kinds of strange characters." Not that he's one to talk: The Cold Mercenary with a Mysterious Background.
Outside of Beacon, a group of First-Year Students arrived at the Beacon Cliff. In this group, Patrick sees the girls and Peter that he has come across in school. Ozpin and Glydia stand before us all. "For years you have trained to become warriors. And today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest."
Glynda takes over the speech. "Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of teams. Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates...Today." Patrick is not at all surprised to hear that, but he wishes something like this didn't happen.
"These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon. So it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well. That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next 4 years."
Hearing Ozpin saying that makes Patrick worried he'll wind up with someone he can't stand. Like that Peter guy. Just the thought of it makes him both worried and boiled.
"After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path, or you will die."
Patrick gives Ozpin a suspicious glare. 'What kind of a Headmaster would put their students in such peril?' It's true the students of graduated schools like Beacon would already be skilled, but fighting is supposed to be on a whole new level.
"You will be monitored and graded for the duration of your initiation. But our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one, and returning to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?"
No one says anything. Seems like Ozpin has covered all the basics for everyone. "Good! Now, take your positions."
Everyone makes their positions, and one-by-one, the catapults everyone stands on starts launching them, high into the air and towards the forest. Patrick finds it surprising this is happening. Ozpin really is a man of mystery. The launching draws closer to him. He does notice when Marlene is launched, he position was a little...poor, even screams as she's in the air.
Once it's only him remaining, it doesn't take long for his catapult to prepare to launch. Patrick looks at Ozpin and Glydia for the last time. Ozpin takes notice of Patrick's thoughts and offers: "Good Luck out there."
Patrick wondered in that instant why he's wishing Patrick luck. He's already skilled enough to hold out on his own. Then figures Oz is talking about wishing him luck for his partnership.
Patrick is launched, where he and the other students soar their way to the forest.
