Star Gazers

Prologue

(California, USA)

A nine year old girl known Rosalie 'Rosa' Breisgau sat on her bed, waiting for her father to come.

Rosalie wore a white pyjama top and trousers covered in a pink heart print. The sleeve cuffs, bottom, and collar were peach-pink. She had auburn red balayage brown hair and her eyes were spring blue.

In her hands was a book that spoke about Captain America; a righteous and brave man who always wanted to see the good in people.

From the events she heard from her History Teacher in school, he had always devoted himself to the protection of the weak and the defense of freedom and justice.

Rosalie couldn't help but smile at the picture of the Super Solider.

He would've been a great hero to meet.

Rosalie then placed the book in a nearby shelf that had other books for girls around her age before making her way back to her.

She grinned in delight as her father, Jordan Breisgau, a man in his late 30s, came into her bedroom with a book with the title 'Norse Mythology' in his hand.

Jordan Breisgau was a handsome man with hickory brown hair, strong eyebrows and hazel coloured eyes. He wore a white shirt underneath a medium orange jacket. His pants were grey, held up by a brown belt and his shoe were brown.

"Still awake, sweetheart?"Jordan asked with a smirk.

"Daddy, I would only fell asleep if you read me a bed time story."Rosalie sneered.

Jordan chuckled as he sat on his daughter's bed while Rosalie laid on her pillow.

"Alright, Rosalie."Jordan answered."I'll read you a story then off to bed, okay?"

"Yes, daddy."Rosalie replied.

Jordan then opened the book to start reading it as Rosalie listened while holding onto her rupert teddy bear.

"Once mankind accepted a simple truth, that they were not alone in this universe."Jordan read."Some worlds, man beloved to be home to their gods. Others, they knew to fear. From a Realm of cold and darkness, came the Frost Giants. Threatening to plunge the mortal world, into a new ice age. But humanity would not face this threat alone. Armies made up of the strong race of people called Asgardians drove the Frost Giants back into the heart of their own world. The cost was great. In the end, the Frost Giant King fell. And the source of their power was taken from them."

Rosalie watched as her father turned to the next pages of the book he held.

"With the last Great War ended, the Asgardians withdrew from the other worlds, and returned home, to the realm eternal known as Asgard."Jordan continued."And here, the Asgardians remain as the beacon of hope. Shining out across the stars. And though they have fallen into man's myths and legends, it was Asgard, and it's warriors, that brought peace to the universe."

Rosalie's eyes widen in awe as Jordan turned the book he was holding around so that she could see the drawing of Asgard.

The nine year old girl reached out and her fingers brushed against the old paper.

"Wow..."Rosalie remarked in awe.

Then Andrea Breisgau, Rosalie's mother and Jordan's wife, walked into the room.

Andrea Breisgau was a woman in her early 30s with wavy dark brown hair styled in a ponytail and spring blue eyes. She wore a periwinkle blue top with a pink collar and long puffed sleeves. Her jeans were black. She also wore dark purple flats with bows on them as well as a pendant with a dark yellow jewel on it.

"Honey, you're not filling Rosa's head with that mythology nonsense again, are you?"Andrea questioned with a disapproving tone.

Rosalie watched Jordan smile sheepishly at her mother, making her shook her head.

"At this rate our daughter will actually start to believe that those things are real."Andrea commented.

"They're not?"Rosalie asked sadly.

Rosalie looked over at her father in disappointment before he reached over and lifted the girl's chin up.

"Cheer up, Rosa."Jordan insisted."Just because people don't believe the same things as you, doesn't make your beliefs any less important."

Rosalie smiled at her father and he ran a finger across her cheek before grabbing ahold of her.

The nine year old girl let out a loud laugh as her father picked her up and placed her in his lap as he tickled her.

Andrea just rolled her eyes playfully and smiled at the sight.

"Come on, Rosalie."Andrea instructed."Time for bed. You've got school tomorrow."

Rosalie frowned and her father's tickling came to a stop.

"Just one more story, mummy."Rosalie pleaded."Pretty please with a cherry on top?"

Andrea stared at her daughter's pleading face before sighing.

"Fine, but just one."Andrea admitted with a small smile.

"Yay!"Rosalie exclaimed happily.

Rosalie snuggled into her father's embrace more while her mother walked away.

She could feel her father shake slightly as he chuckled and she nudged him slightly as if to tell him to just open the book already.

"Okay, okay."Jordan said before he opened the book back up."Now, what should we read tonight?"

"Can you read the story about the two princes?"Rosalie suggested."Luki and Tor?"

"You mean Loki and Thor?"Jordan chuckled.

Rosalie eagerly nodded her head.

"But we read that story every night, kiddo."Jordan reminded."Don't you want Sleeping Beauty or Snow White-"

Rosalie gives an adorable pout, interrupting her father.

"No more Disney Princess stories, daddy."Rosalie replied with her arms folded."It always ends with the prince saving the princess. Not the other way around."

"Well, okay then."Jordan replied with a smile.

Jordan then turned to the story Rosalie was talking about and the girl instantly sat up straighter once she saw the picture of Loki and Thor.

"As you know by now, Loki is an odd character to say the least. He's a master of manipulation and deceit."Jordan explained."He can astral project himself, so no one ever knows if they are talking to the real him. And you always need to watch out for his silver-tongue."

Rosalie smiled softly and then looked over at the picture of Loki.

He didn't look that bad or dangerous.

"He probably just needs a hug."Rosalie suggested.

This made Jordan chuckle softly while Rosalie's eyes scanned over the drawing of Loki.

Loki was drawn as someone in all gold green armour that had black hair and savage green eyes that seemed to make a shiver run up your spine even if they were only drawings.

"Then there's Thor Odinson."Jordan stated."Do you remember what he is the God of, Rosa?"

"Thunder!"Rosalie cheered in delight.

"That is correct."Jordan praised in approval."But he is also the God of lightning, storms, strength, the protection of mankind and a lot of other things. Though thunder is correct."

Rosalie smiled and looked down at the drawing of Thor in excitement.

Thor was dressed in metal armour with a red cape and in one hand he held the famous hammer Mjolnir. He had long blonde hair and gorgeous blue eyes.

One time Rosalie made a joke to her father by saying that Thor was going to be the next model for the Garnier Commercial.

Jordan smiled softly at his daughter before turning the page to the story Rosalie had been talking about.

Rosalie relaxed a little and snuggled against him and let out a content sigh as he began to read.

"Now these two didn't always see eye to eye."Jordan admitted with a hint of warning."In fact this story proves that statement and it all happened when Loki decided to turn into a snake..."

Jordan continued reading to Rosalie the chapter book of 'The Two Princes of Asgard' and after reading a couple of pages, his daughter fell into a deep sleep.

"Goodnight, Rosa."Jordan whispered.

Jordan tucked Rosalie in her bed and placed a small kiss on her forehead.

He then reached over and turned off the light before placing the book down on her nightstand before he walked out of the room and shut the door behind him.

As soon as the door shut, Rosalie's eyes shot open and quickly sat up from her bed.

The nine year old girl tried to hide her giggles as she grabbed the mythology book from the nightstand.

Rosalie quickly climbed under the covers of her bed and made sure she was fully hidden by the covers before she pulled out her flashlight and turned it on.

She quickly pulled the book up so that the two could see it and held the flashlight up so that she could see the pages she was on.

Rosalie flipped through the book trying to find a certain page.

She immediately smiled at the sight of Thor and her father's words rang through her head.

"Cheer up, Rosa. Just because people don't believe the same things as you, doesn't make your beliefs any less important."

Rosalie's eyes scanned over the drawing of the God of thunder and lightning.

She didn't know why she loved the myths so much.

Something about them just intrigued her.

All mythology did really, but for some reason Norse Mythology intrigued her the most.

Rosalie's fingers ran over the picture before her attention went on the page of Loki.

Thor's brother.

From her father told her, Loki was a trickster and the God of Mischief as well as the total opposite of Thor.

But he sounded more like the one into magic than joining firece battles like Thor.

Was he really that bad as folks say he was?

She couldn't help, but be curious.

Rosalie then turned to the next part of the book which showed a map of the Nine Realms; Asgard, Midgard, Jotunheim, Svartalfheim, Vanaheim, Muspelheim, Niflheim, Nidavellir and Alfheim.

In Norse mythology, the structure of the universe was actually organised into nine distinct realms that were interconnected by the ash tree known as Yggdrasil.

Though her mother told her it wasn't true due to being quite a religious woman.

Rosalie then quietly went off her bed with the book in her hands and carefully opened her bedroom window to look at the view outside.

She didn't open the window too much due to the cold yet windy weather.

Rosalie looked at the map of the Nine Realms in the book and then the sky, only to see it was dark and accompanied by sparkly night stars.

A slight smile appeared on Rosalie's face as she looked at the peaceful night view.

Maybe there was more out there than she, her parents or anyone else thought.

Rosalie then placed the book back where it was before putting off her flashlight and going to bed to fall into a deep sleep.
