"How can I be the granddaughter of Palpatine?"
Rey's tone was filled with dismay as she asked herself the question. She wasn't sure she wanted to even know the answer. Her face was overflowing with the horror she was feeling from the terrible truth she'd learnt. She was aghast that the evil Emperor who had returned from the dead and intended to destroy all the Jedi was her own grandfather.
"I can't believe it! I don't believe it! I won't believe it!"
Rey paced back and forth in her appalled state. Next to her, the Force Ghost of Luke Skywalker watched. The spirit of legendary Jedi was a lot more calm and collected compared to the outraged young scavenger.
"I've never heard anything so unbelievable, Master Skywalker!" Rey hollered disgustedly. "Being told that the Sith Lord person I'm destined to bring down - just so happens to be my family!"
"I know how you feel," Luke murmured softly. "I was just as horrified when Darth Vader told me he was actually Dad Vader."
"It's not true, is it?" Rey looked at her ghostly mentor hopefully. "I mean, Palpatine is my grandfather? That's impossible?"
"Search your feelings," Luke said, using the same words Darth Vader had told him during his own shocking revelation. "You know it to be true."
Rey tensed up. She placed a hand to her heart as she felt it racing inside her chest. She realised what she was denying was true. She was indeed the granddaughter of Emperor Palpatine.
"No..." Rey whispered, closing her eyes as she imagined what her childhood had been like if her evil granddaughter had been around to raise her.
"Whoops-a-daisy!"
Young Rey giggled happily as she was tossed into the air. She came down to land in Palpatine's hands before he threw her upwards again. The Sith Lord was using the Force to make the small child go up so high. He could've easily left her to fall to fatally hit the floor - were it not for the fact she happened to be his granddaughter.
As Rey landed in his grasp again, Palpatine held her closely. He gazed at her from underneath his hood, a wicked grin spreading across his hideous face.
"Are you going to be like your grandpappy when you grow up?" he asked ominously. "Are you going to rule the galaxy like me?"
"Yes, Grandpappy," Rey answered innocently, too young to grasp the terrible ambitions her vile guardian was trying to corrupt her little mind with.
"Good girl!" Palpatine sneered. "You're my grandchild alright!"
"Tell me a story, Grandpappy!" Rey begged. "Pleeeaaassse?"
"Very well..."
Palpatine sat down onto a nearby swing. He perched his granddaughter onto his knee as he prepared to bond with her through their storytime.
"Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?"
"No, Grandpappy."
"I thought not. It's not a story your mommy and daddy would tell you - if they hadn't left you to be raised by Grandpappy. It's a Sith legend..."
Rey shuddered. The idea of being raised through her childhood by Palpatine was too ghastly to bear. She had been better off living her life on Jakku all alone if her grandfather was as corrupt and wicked as the Emperor.
"Wel I refuse to accept I'm a Palpatine," Rey told Luke. "I'm a Skywalker! Just like you, Master Skywalker! I'm Rey Skywalker!"
"Impressive!" Luke huffed. "Everything you just said was wrong!"
THE END
