With the plan set in place, Mimic left the dorm room.
"Ok, time check out our new digs!" Surge giddily said to kit.
The dorm wasn't anything special, that's if you've haven't been staying in a rundown hideout for the past couple of months. The dorm looked like your typical hotel room. The floor had a black carpet, one that Surge couldn't wait to walk on with her feet after a long day. The walls were a warm white color. The main room had a bed(s), a refrigerator, and a closet. The bed was a size queen with a solid burgundy colored blanket and two white pillows. This wasn't a bed both Surge and Kit were used to since they've been sleeping in a twin XL bed for most of their life. However, it might not make that much of a distance with them sharing it.
The refrigerator was simple. It was thirty inches of stainless steel and with some advertisement flyers already clipped on it with kitchen magnets. Surge opened the fridge and was already filled with glee as she saw the inside of the fridge to be stocked with groceries.
Disappointingly to Kit, the TV was a bit behind compared to the rest of the room. It was a box TV, one that needed yellow, white, and red colored wire from the cable box to show any form of entertainment or news. It wasn't much but it's better than nothing.
Now it's time for the bathroom. Surge and Kit walked towards the dorm's entrance and turned left to open the bathroom door. There were pearly white tiles on the floor, a sink partnered with a mirror above it, and of course a bathtub.
Surge was already getting used to this place. She walked to the dorm's window in the main room and peaked out through the burgundy-colored curtains. There she saw the members of the Resistance at work. Each member appears to be busy performing a task or communicating amongst each other.
"I gotta admit, this place ain't half bad!" Surge said to kit.
Kit looked out of the window. It's nice and all but, there's just something he doesn't like about this. "Yeah, it's great but, do we really have to stay here?" He asked.
Surge turned around to face Kit, a bit puzzled with his question. "Why? Would rather go back to Starline's base where we barely had running water? or would you rather stay in a nice, cozy dorm?" she asked back.
"Yeah, I know but, do we have to live here in the heart of the Resistance with Sonic and his friends?" He questioned again, more worried than his first question.
"Look it's simple! All we have to do is just hang out here for a while until Mimic does his part in our plan." Surge explained.
Kit still looked unconvinced. Surge sighed. "Look, I thought you wanted to see Tails? don't you have a bone to pick with him or something?" Surge said.
With that, Kit didn't see the harm in staying in the Resistance HQ for a while. Kit still blames himself for being tricked by Tails into thinking that he was his friend. It seems like everyone just want him and Surge for their own personal interests.
"Right I forgot" Kit responded.
"That's more like it!" Surge said as she grabbed and rubbed her right knuckle on Kit's head. Kit managed to squirm out of her grasp with a smile on his face, appreciating the little bonding experience they just had.
Surged raised her arms out to stretch and let out a long overdue yawn. "I'd say we hit the hay. We already done the hard part in being accepted into the Resistance. And, even that was easy." Surge chuckled.
"Alright then." Kit agreed.
Surge walked to the closet and grabbed a towel and walked into the bathroom to take a shower. Kit sat on the bed as he heard the bathroom door lock. He waited patiently for his turn.
While Surge was taking her shower, she looked down and noticed the floor getting wet. Surge saw the water wasn't coming from the shower head but rather a leak that's dripping down from above. "Huh. We probably got some wet water damage from the roof." she said to herself. "Oh well, it's nothing I can't fix." she added.
After 15 minutes, Surge came out of the bathroom. "Your turn." Surge said.
Kit got up from the bed and walked towards the bathroom. Kit entered the bathroom and started undressing. He put his clothes into the hamper. He got the shower running. Surge regretted not looking into the closet before she took a shower. None of the clothes in it fit her style. All the options were a black T-shirt, jeans, sweatpants and shorts. "I'm gonna have to get my clothes washed if I want to wear them again." Surge said to herself. While looking through the bland collection of clothing, she heard a knock at the door. Already? Surge thought to herself. "In a minute!" Surge yelled out. "No rush!" a voice responded back. "Sonic? What the hell is he here for? It's like midnight for fucks sake!" Surge said to herself.
Surge quickly put on a pair of sweatpants and a black T-shirt and opened the front door. Sure enough, there was Sonic, waiting at the door.
"The hell do you want?" Surge asked.
"I'm just checking on you two to make sure there's no complaints about your dorm." Sonic answered.
Surge looked confused for a sec before realizing what Sonic meant. "Oh, you mean like, making sure the fridge works and everything. Right?" Surge asked.
Sonic nodded. "Yeah, that's pretty much it. So, is everything alright?" He asked.
"I'm good. But, Kit might be a while. I kinda used up most of the hot water." Surge lied.
"That's fine." Sonic answered.
There was an awkward silence between the two. "So...how are you liking this place so far? I know the tour we gave you may be a bit overwhelming and that little "incident" in seeing Whisper again" Sonic said scratching his head.
"Eh, it's okay. At least the room doesn't stink like back at Starline's base." Surge answered.
"Yea, I've bet. Glad you're enjoying yourself on day one in being with the Resistance." Sonic responded.
"It's okay." Surge answered again. "But, why is this place so huge? " Surge asked.
Sonic sighed. "Yea, you'll have to ask Amy about that. I wasn't part of the whole construction process of this place." Sonic responded.
"Anyways, I gotta go and meet someone. If you need anything, you visit me at my dorm room #1." Sonic informed before zipping away.
Surge sighed as she shut the door and waited for Kit. While she was waiting for Kit to get out of the shower, Surge was getting bored. Surge decided to pass time by checking the drawers in the living room to see what's in there. Most of the drawers were empty, with one exception being a drawer full of books. The first one that caught her eye was called "How to Be A Great Hero". Surge found it strange to have that in a drawer. Surge began skimming through the book. She couldn't really make any sense out of the book and most of it sounded like basic shit in being nice.
After some time passed, the bathroom door opened. Kit stepped out. Surge immediately turned her attention away from the book and to Kit. "Took you long enough" Surge said. "Sorry. It's been a while since I had an actual shower." Kit said apologetically.
"Whatever, you can go ahead and read if you want. I'm going to sleep." Surge said before heading to the closet and getting in bed. "You can sleep too after you're done with the book. Surge added before closing the door to the closet.
"Sure thing" Kit replied before closing the main dorm door and locking it. Kit put the book in the drawer. "I'm too tired to read." he thought to himself as he closed the drawer and got on the bed with Surge. Kit got on the right side of the bed to get some rest for tomorrow.
Surge fell asleep. She was glad to finally have a home, albeit temporary. Sure, they were sleeping in the heart of their enemy's base. But, for now? As long as they keep up their act of pretending to turn over a new leaf, it wasn't so bad. This was definitely a change in pace compared to Surge's default approach when taking down Sonic. She tried the direct approach multiple times and failed. Now is the time to use patience, something that is experimental with her.
As for what they will do when the plan is complete. Surge is pretty confident that her future would be looking bright. With the money and fame, she and Kit will finally have their happy ending.
As for Kit's thoughts. It's not like he really thought about what the future will be after their plan succeeds. All he cares about is that Surge is safe and succeeds in her goal. He doesn't really think about himself that much.
In Surge's eyes, Kit was like an annoying brother. She secretly enjoys his company but has a hard time expressing it but, Kit means the world to her. As long as they are together, both were confident that they could handle anything.
It's probably a good time to sleep, the first day of their infiltration was successful. It's time for some much-deserved rest. Surge and Kit both had the same thing on their minds before they closed their eyes: A goodnight's rest.
As they drifted off to sleep, they couldn't help but feel happy for the first time in years. They were together and that's all that mattered. They would never have to go back to that dark, dreary research base ever again.
With this newfound sense of peace, they finally allowed their exhausted bodies to succumb to the darkness of slumber. The sounds of their breathing filled the room. Surge's snores were loud but gentle and comforting. Kit's breathing was slower and more controlled. His eyes twitched every now and then as he slept. Surge and Kit slept peacefully. No more nightmares would haunt their dreams.
The two new recruits slept soundly as the sun slowly rose over the horizon, waking up all those in the base to the start of a brand-new day. "Ok let's get this show on the road" Surge yawned. Kit sat up from the bed and got up as well. "What's today's plan" he asked.
Surge yawned once more. "Let's start by getting something to eat, I'm starving" Surge answered. "Well, we got some groceries in the fridge but, our room doesn't have a kitchen" Kit replied. Surge got up and got out of the closet to put her shoes on. "Crap, you're right. It has to be here somewhere in this building. Otherwise, what's the point in having our fridge full? To torment us?" Surge said.
The two stepped out of their dorm to check out their surroundings. The two walked towards the left wing of the building and began walking towards the right. They saw a common room. The common room had a small round table with chairs, and a long couch facing a flat TV. To the left was the kitchen. It looked quite clean, with only a few dirty dishes in the sink. It had all the necessary equipment for cooking meals, a stove, oven, fridge, sink and microwave.
As the two walked in the common room, they were surprised by Tangle and Whisper who were sitting at the small round table. Whisper looked like she had just woken up. She was rubbing her eyes as she stared down at her cup of coffee on the table. Tangle looked to be a bit more awake than Whisper was. "Looked who showed up" Tangle said. Whisper turned to look and immediately wished she hadn't. "Hey, chill out. We're here just to cook ourselves some breakfast." Surge said putting her hands up to signal she came in peace. Surge had no problem picking a bone with the person she moped the floor with in the past but, it was too early for any kind of drama. She wasn't about to deal with it so soon in her day.
Surge and Kit went towards the kitchen to prepare some food for themselves. Surge was about to open the fridge when Kit whispered, "We should probably head back to fridge in our room instead of taking someone else's stuff from this one.".
"Who cares? If it's left in the fridge near the common room, then it's meant for everyone right?" Surge argued.
"I guess so." Kit shrugged.
"It's cool, if someone gets emotional about it then they shouldn't have left their stuff where anyone can grab it." Surge concluded.
Surge opened the fridge. To Kit's surprise, the fridge had no food in it. Kit was disappointed. Surge, on the other hand, was unfazed by the news. "Yea...looks about right. I wouldn't leave my stuff here either. Let's head to our room and grab some groceries and come back to the kitchen." Surge said. Kit sighed. Surge rolled her eyes at him. "Dude, get out of the "Oh woe is me" mode for one second, it's not that bad. I'm hungry too y'know" Surge argued.
Tangle, Whisper and Kit stared at Surge. Surge had to remind herself that everyone is probably expecting her to snap again at the smallest inconvenience.
"What? are ya'll for real? I'm not go- you know what? Forget about it. It's too early for this shit." Surge grumbled as she walked towards her dorm room.
As Surge was leaving, Whisper gave Tangle a concerned look. "It's ok" Tangle said, patting her arm. Whisper gave Tangle a small smile before taking a sip from her coffee. "What should we do?" Whisper asked.
"I don't think we can do anything. It's not like they are gonna try to rob a bank. They live here now." Tangle shrugged.
Surge s had forgotten which one of the dorm rooms was theirs so she started turning random door knobs. "So, which one was our room again?" Surge asked after the fifth doorknob. "The one on the end, to the left." Kit pointed at a room on the far left of the hall.
Surge grumbled. Kit rolled his eyes. Surge was about to make a snappy remark but decided against saying anything and just headed for the room. Surge was already feeling tired. This morning hasn't gone so well, she wanted to get to the kitchen already to make something for breakfast.
Kit opened the dorm room and checked the fridge. In the fridge was a wide range of items and ingredients to choose from. It was a bit overwhelming when you're not sure what you want to cook and thinking what you need (or want) to cook with. Kit decided to save himself from a headache and just grabbed some eggs, milk, butter, and bread. As Surge grabbed the milk and butter from Kit to balance the labor, they heard someone entering their room.
It was Sonic.
"Morning. Need some help there?" Sonic said, putting a smile on his face.
Surge didn't think this morning could get any more annoying. "No. We don't need help. You can go away now." Surge replied coldly. She turned around and started to head to the kitchen. Kit felt a little bad, but he did nothing and followed Surge.
As the two made it back to the kitchen, Surge saw that the other two had moved to the long couch in front of the TV watching the news. Surge figured they were scanning for any important updates on Eggman's activity. Not her problem though. Surge and Kit set down their ingredients on the counter near the sink. "All we need now is a pan and a non-stick spray" Surge said.
"I mean we could but, we don't need the non-stick spray." Kit responded.
"What do you mean? We need a non-stick spray for the eggs." Surge argued.
"Yea, we could do that but, we already have butter." Kit answered back. Surge looked confused but decided to not make herself look like a fool and kept her mouth shut.
"Don't you know how to cook?" Sonic said, now in between the common room and kitchen.
"Uh yea, I just didn't know you could use butter to cook eggs." Surge. Sonic smirked a bit, having an idea in mind. "Ok then. Make yourself and Kit, Eggs and toast. Without Kit's help." Sonic said with his arms crossed. At this point, Tangle and Whisper were eavesdropping and were peaking just above the couch from their seated position. Surge immediately started to blush as the spotlight had just been set on her. "Pssshhh, I can make that no problem." Surge bluffed. "Well, go ahead then. Kit isn't getting any less hungry" Sonic said. Kit was a bit worried for Surge. Surge was confident ninety percent of the time. It was clear as day for someone who had been with her longer than anyone else, that she is clearly not confident in herself at the moment.
"Right...first...you...uhh...get a bowl...right?" Surge asked looking at Sonic for help.
"Don't say it, just do it" Sonic said sternly. With no assistance of any kind from this point forward, Surge grabbed a bowl and placed it on the counter. Surge then took an egg and cracked it using a fork from the dishrack. She tried to open it over the bowl, but the egg wasn't cracked enough to be opened. Surge cracked the egg a few more times with the fork. She attempted to open it again and the egg opened with bits and pieces of shells falling into the bow along with the insides of the egg. "Ok...so far so good." Surge thought to herself. Unbeknownst to her, Sonic was shaking his head and still smirking. Tangle and Whisper was snickering quietly on the couch.
Surge then placed the pan on the stove. She turned the knob to "high" but no fire appeared. "Ok, something isn't right" Surge thought to herself. She turned the knob all the way down and back to "high". Again, no fire. Surge, now extremely upset, snaped her finger under the pan and sparked a flame. "That's actually pretty neat!" Sonic commented. Surge brushed the compliment off and continued to focus on the task at hand. She cracked another egg and opened it over her bowl, this time doing it slightly more smoother and efficient than the first. Surge then searched for and grabbed a non-stick spray from one of the cabinets and sprayed the pan. She then poured the eggs from the bowl onto the pan. Surge could her giggling coming from the common room. Tangle and Whisper started to lose control trying not to laugh so loud.
Surge was fuming and wondered what the hell was she doing wrong? Sonic, although enjoying this unexpected entertainment, admired the fact that Surge is at least trying. After a while, Surge flipped the egg using a spatula. She thought about what to do next as the other side of the egg was being cooked but wasn't sure if what she was about to do was the correct step. She took the egg off the pan and onto a plate.
"Ok, I've seen enough." Sonic said. Surge just dropped the spatula without a word and stared daggers into Sonic's eyes.
"You want me to cook breakfast for you instead?" Sonic asked.
"Whatever the fuck you want." Surge responded, clearly not happy.
"Yo! Whisper and Tangle! You want some breakfast?" Sonic asked. "Hell yea!" Tangle cheered, pumping a fist into the air. Whisper, just giving a thumbs up to Sonic.
Sonic dumped the egg Surge cooked, into the trash and began making breakfast for everyone. The entire time Surge was sitting at the round table grumbling to herself with Kit sitting next to her. Kit was too scared to ask how she's feeling. Sonic finished cooking breakfast and handed everyone their plates with an egg sandwich on it. Surge grabbed her plate and stomped her way to her dorm room. Kit followed behind her.
"Rude. She didn't even say thank you." Tangle muffled out with her mouth full of food.
"Eh, it's no problem. To be fair, I did just tease her just a moment ago." Sonic justified.
"True, but still. At the end of the day, you made breakfast for them." Tangle argued.
"I'll let it slide." Sonic dismissed.
Surge and kit ate in silence, Kit finishing before Surge. "What the hell was that?" Surge yelled, still fuming from earlier. Kit just stayed silent not saying anything. "You can fucking speak, you know that! Now talk!" Surge demanded.
"Well, you have a reason to be angry." Kit began "But, the fact that you were yelling and cursing at the Sonic was kinda unnecessary." Kit continued. "You were clearly uncomfortable with what was going on and that's understandable. However, that didn't give you an excuse to talk to him the way you did." Kit said as calmly as possible. He wasn't looking for an argument with her. Surge just stayed quiet.
"First off, I wasn't yelling. I raised my voice but, I wasn't yelling." Surge finally spoke. "Second, he put me on the spot and humiliated me! especially in front of that fox girl." Surge continued.
"Ok, you're right. You didn't yell." Kit responded. "As for the cursing...it was a bit of an overreaction. If you keep that up, we won't be staying here for long." Kit said, finally finished speaking and leaving to do whatever she plans to do. Surge sighed, getting up and heading out to do her own thing.
Hope you guys enjoyed my first chapter in my experimental. Criticism are welcomed.
