This is a bit of a departure from what I normally do, but I remembered an old fanfic that I read several years ago when I was still in high school. This fanfic was never finished and seeing how it was only one chapter away from genuine completion I thought I would write this as a means of getting myself personal closure for this story.
For those curious about the context. The author is the very talented Silver Umbra and the stories leading to this will be linked below.
Comforting Her (The Original Short Story)
Moving Forward (The unfinished sequel this oneshot was made from)
The Meeting (Where some of the references/plot points are drawn from)
With that said here is a Liliopshipping (Uxie x Azelf) with some other stuff thrown in there.
Years had gone by since that fateful day. The one where they were supposed to recognize their unrealized feelings for each other. Where they could put behind all those pent up feelings and just admit it to each other. Instead Azelf had fled the scene entirely leaving a flummoxed Mesprit and an especially irritated Uxie alone in her cave. With her plans completely in shambles Uxie grumpily returned to his library. Leaving Mesprit perpetually stuck at this game of cat and mouse. Worse still the two had extended their isolation from each other to Mesprit just as much. Try as she might she never could get the two of them alone together. Not from lack of trying, but the two had grown wise to her antics.
The only times they ever were in the same room anymore were the immensely dull meetings Arceus held at the Hall of Origins. Azelf was asleep from her continuous downward spiral and Uxie had been desperately trying to hide his concern by burying his yellow head in an especially large thesaurus.
Azelf felt a pair of small paws on her shoulders, shaking the sleep out of her. She groaned loudly and briefly feared that Uxie was breaking the ice forming between the two of them. "Heya Azzy! Meetings over!" That unmistakable childish pitch. Blinking the sleep away she groggily acknowledged the pink cat in front of her. "Hey Mew…" That depressive grip had loosened ever so briefly speaking to her former partner in chaos. Though ever since he and Celebi got together he rarely caused as many problems anymore. She for her part was far too tired to give him the means to cause that hysterical mayhem. "Need something?" He shook his head then stopped contemplating how to word things. "Well, I wanted to know if you were up for some gaming tonight? " She yawned and internally jumped at this chance to avoid whatever nonsense Mesprit planned for her today. "Sure
"Just ah… before I go… I gotta let Celebi know… well…" His flustered reaction never failed to amuse her and she held up a paw for him to stop. Only speaking when he very quickly got the message for silence. "Dude, you can just say you wanna kiss her before you go." She grinned slyly and he grinned back sheepishly. "That obvious?" Azelf nodded and gave his arm a playful punch. "Don't take too long tiger." With that said the willpower fairy stretched the remaining sleep away and floated out of the room. For once looking forward to the day ahead of her.
Mew nodded to himself, satisfied with his work. Then he was immediately intercepted by the pink pixie of emotion. "Well?"
"She's a total mess, but she agreed to some games." Mesprit nodded nervously, tapping her small paws together waiting for the second part of her plan to fall into place. Said second step flew in and Mesprit immediately threw her paws onto the green time fairy's tiny shoulders. "WELL?"
Celebi calmly took Mesprit's paws off her shoulders. "He's a total mess, hasn't slept in maybe a month, and he's been pretending to read that dictionary for the past four months now." "I know all of that! What did he say about talking books?" She loudly exclaimed, still far too close to Celebi for her comfort. "He agreed." Mew chimed in at that point, "Seriously? Don't get me wrong Celebi you're amazing, but he must REALLY be stressed out if he's agreeing to this." She nodded at both the praise and at his accurate summation. "Awesome… Things are falling into place…" Celebi and Mew exchanged looks and he nodded. "Yeah about that, I'm meeting him at his cave." "And Azzy and I are meeting at her place." The pink and pale blue fairy's eyes shot wide open. "WHAT?!"
"EEP!" He rushed behind the safety barrier that was Celebi. She simply placed a protective hand on his head and gave Mesprit a look best described as "Drop it." Mesprit refused, focusing all her fury on the time fairy. At this point she was centimeters away from her forehead gem embedding itself in the time fairy's skull. Celebi once again calmly pushed Mesprit out of her personal space and cooly responded. "I'm giving him a day away from all this chaos. Mew is giving Azelf some breathing room for everything too. You should take a step back and do the same."
With a defeated groan Mesprit collapsed against the white marble wall. Mew cautiously approached her, Celebi keeping a hand on his tail just in case she needed to pull him to safety. "Hey, so not to sound too overbearing. Just, maaaybe you need a break too?" Her head darted up, golden eyes burning with frustration. "J-just uh… it's uh…" Mesprit's stare was proving too much for the small cat to handle. "Uh…Celebi help!" She shook her head and playfully shot his request down. "You're doing great, Mew." His eyes turned back to face Mesprit's. Her's still burned as a raging inferno. Her paws clenching and unclenching ready to grab him by the throat and drain him of every ounce of emotion he ever had felt or will feel. Steeling his nerves he tensed his body and answered. "We're just worried about you is all!"
At that moment he darted away from Mesprit's reach and into the much more merciful embrace Celebi offered. He was clinging to her shivering with primal fear written all over him. Celebi held the same unamused look, softening ever so slightly looking down at him. She stroked the top of his head and let out a hearty sigh. "Well, there is one option." He fake gasped and held his paws to his cheeks. The fear he felt moments ago completely evaporated. "Celebi! I told you that in confidence!" She shook her head and continued playing the ridiculous game. "Oh sorry, I guess it was an honest slip of the tongue…" Her acting was absolutely abhorrent and only served to further annoy Mesprit. "Aw well… I guess at this point we'll have no choice but to tell Mesprit what we know…" Mesprit was absolutely not playing THIS game with Mew again. She lost her cool in an instant and let that frustration amplify her voice for the both of them.
"AH! Enough of this! What are you two hiding?!" Mew scrambled behind Celebi, heading poking out from behind her shoulder. "So Ar-Ar may have seen the success of that last big meeting and may be planning to hold one of those later this year!" Mesprit's eyes widened and looked to Celebi who silently nodded in confirmation. Attendance at these things was ALWAYS mandatory.
She felt that desperate flickering flame in her gut ignite like a blazing furnace once again. Mesprit shot up eager to make preparations for this inevitable meeting. Only to meet the familiar sting of her tail being yanked by her own momentum. Hastily turning to the source, she incredulously stared at the same eerily calm Celebi. She held her tail with her free hand "No, you can start planning tomorrow. Today you are going to relax." Mesprit continued to glare at Celebi as her free tail twitched indignantly. "Don't test me, I can convince Palkia you want to spend the day listening to his lectures." Mesprit's feral demeanor dropped entirely knowing full well that Celebi was more than capable of living up to that kind of threat. With one last defeated sigh her aggressive demeanor faded and she muttered to herself, "I guess I can see how Jirachi is doing…" As she left, Mew cheered, flying around Celebi repeatedly. Once he had done that enough times for his liking, he darted back to Celebi wrapping both his arms around her in celebration. She let out another sigh, but smiled and returned his hug all the same. "Yeah, I know. I'm awesome."
Not sure how long this is going to wind up.
This was originally intended as a one-shot and currently stands to be maybe 10 chapters long depending on how I split them apart.
