Chapter 1
Hanna noticed beaker full of sparkly blue smoke sitting on the table. She grinned. It was magic. Emma had been giving her lessons lately, so Hanna thought maybe this was what they would be working on today. Hanna reached out and picked it up. She examined the glass and wondered what it did.
"Hanna put that down!" Emma yelled.
Hanna jumped and dropped the beaker onto the floor, causing the smoke to rise into the air and surround the girls.
When the smoke cleared, Hanna looked down and noticed her clothes were too big and the table seemed to be taller than she was now.
"Hanna, what the hell did you do to us?"
Hanna looked over at her sister and her mouth fell open. Emma's voice was different and she didn't look like herself. Well, she kinda did… "Emma are we…"
"Toddlers. You turned us into toddlers!"
"It wasn't my fault! It was your potion!"
"You were the one who touched it! Why would you do that?"
"Why would you leave your potion out in the middle of the table? This isn't my…"
"Girls!" Snow came out from her bedroom after hearing all the fighting, not noticing the change in their voices. "What is going on out…oh my." Snow saw the sight in front of her and quickly put Neal in his bouncy seat. She went over to her little girls. "Emma? Hanna?"
The girls nodded.
"What happened?"
Emma looked up at her mom. "I was practicing a shrinking potion and she touched it!" Emma glared at her sister. "It exploded all over us and now we're…"
"Toddlers?"
Emma stomped her foot. "Yes!"
"Alright, Emma, calm down," Snow tried hard not to laugh at how cute the tiny version of angry Emma was. "We can fix this."
"If she hadn't touched it, we wouldn't need to fix this!"
"Emma." Snow raised her eyebrows at her.
Emma crossed her arms and rolled her eyes.
Snow looked over to her other daughter. "Hanna, why did you touch your sister's potion?"
Hanna shrugged.
Snow could see the tears starting to well up in her eyes. "It's alright, sweetie." Snow gently rubbed her arm. "I'm going to call Regina and see if she can help us."
"What about our clothes?" Emma asked.
"Oh umm…I'll see if Regina can magic you some new clothes too. You two stay here. I'll be right back."
Emma slumped down onto the floor.
Hanna walked over and sat down beside her. "I'm sorry."
Emma sighed. "It's okay."
"Maybe it'll be fun to be toddlers for awhile," Hanna grinned.
"I don't know about that…let's just hope Regina gets here soon and can change us back."
A few seconds later, Regina appeared in the loft. She walked over and knelt down beside the girls. "Well, what do we have here…"
Emma sighed and told Regina everything. Regina told them she couldn't reverse the effects of the potion, but that the spell would wear off soon. It could take a few days though. She wasn't sure exactly how long, but it would go away on it's own eventually. All they could do was wait. Before she left, Regina waved her hand, putting the girls in proper sized clothing. She left some more clothes with Snow too.
David came home a few minutes after Regina left. "Snow, where are they?"
Snow nodded towards the couch.
David looked over and saw the girls sitting next to each other watching tv. He couldn't help, but smile. "They're so cute."
"Aren't they?"
"But they're still…them?"
"Yeah they seem to still to be their regular age on the inside. Regina said that could change though. There's not really much we can do about it. The spell has to wear off on it's own."
"I guess we should enjoy this while we can." David walked towards the couch.
Hanna looked up and smiled when she saw him. "Hi Daddy."
"Hi princess." David sat down beside her. He glanced over at his grumpy faced little girl. "Hi Emma."
Emma looked over at him. "Hey." Her eyes quickly shifted back to the tv.
"What are you two watching?"
"Some stupid show she picked," Emma said.
"It's not stupid!"
Emma turned towards her sister. "Yes it is!"
"No it's not!"
"It's basically the stupidest show ever!"
"Hey you two. No fighting." David picked Hanna up, moved her away from Emma, and sat himself in-between them.
"It's a stupid show," Emma grumbled.
"No more saying stupid."
"I'm an adult I can say stupid if I want."
"Well you're not acting very much like an adult teasing your sister like that, so stop with the stupid."
Emma crossed her arms in a huff. "Stupid, stupid, stupid."
David raised his eyebrows at her. "Emma…"
Emma avoided his gaze. She didn't like the look he was giving her. She was still an adult, but why did she actually feel like a toddler right now?
"How about when this is over you get to pick a show?" David suggested.
Emma nodded.
"Good," David reached down and kissed the top of her head. "You two stay here. I'll be right back."
Emma looked over to Hanna. "Sorry I said your show was stupid."
"It's okay." Hanna scooted over towards her sister and covered them both up with a blanket.
"Okay, where's the remote?" Emma said a little while later.
Hanna held it up. "It's right here, but my show isn't over yet."
"Close enough." Emma grabbed onto the remote.
Hanna still held tightly to the other side. "They didn't even take the cake to the customer yet!"
Emma pulled the remote. "So what!"
"I wanna see if they like it!" Hanna pulled back.
"They're going to like it. Now give it to me!"
"No!"
"Hanna let go!"
"No!"
"Girls! That's enough! I just got your brother to sleep." Snow reached out and held onto the middle of the remote. "Give me this."
Neither Hanna, nor Emma released their grips. The three were now in a staring contest, none willing to give up control of the remote.
Snow turned to Hanna first. "Let go."
Hanna sighed and did what her mom asked.
Snow turned to her other daughter. "Emma give me the remote."
"Dad said it's my turn."
"But I said to let go."
Emma shook her head.
"Now Emma."
Emma could feel her cheeks start to turn red. She felt like she was going to start to cry, so she quickly let go and crossed her arms.
"Thank you," Snow said with a sigh. She pointed the remote at the tv and turned it off. "How about we go find something else to do?"
"Coloring? Really?" Emma said when she saw what her mom set down on the table in front of them.
"What's wrong with coloring?" Snow asked.
"You know we're not actually toddlers, right?"
Snow shrugged. "I'm not a toddler and I'm going to color." She sifted through the coloring books and picked out one with all different kinds of flowers.
"Me too," David said. He found a coloring book with airplanes.
Emma looked over at her sister, hoping for some back up.
Hanna just grinned. She liked coloring even at her normal age. "I think coloring is fun!" Hanna found a page to color in the princess book.
Emma groaned, but started coloring a page from the zoo themed book. She would deny it if anyone asked, but she was actually enjoying herself. Coloring a rainbow striped tiger and purple spotted giraffe was kind of fun.
