Having survived the fateful duel, Commodus is vengeful and lonely after the death of Maximus and the banishment of Lucilla. Caesonia Quintina, the daughter of Quintus (the general who betrayed Commodus), chooses to be held prisoner by the Emperor to save her convicted father. Will Commodus be brave enough to fight for his own sanity and blooming affections?

This story takes placed after Maximus was taken by the great gladiator trainer Proximo to become a slave fighter. He is resting in the training Luda one night when a young Pict warrior woman enters the grounds and becomes a dangerous distraction to both Maximus and the other gladiators. She will soon learn she must fight in and out of the arena for her safety.

Lucilla was forced to watch her brother and the love of her life engage in mortal combat on the Colosseum floor and both die within minutes of each other. Now she must cope with her haunting memories which have become a constant nightmare. At least they are a beautiful one.
