I'm fairly closed to finishing writing this so I thought I should start posting it before everyone forgets the series exists. Same rules apply as ever: This series only tries to stay in continuity with the seven Harry Potter books and eight Harry Potter films.

For those needing a refresher on the basic set-up of this series: While their children were in Hogwarts, Ginny was killed and Ron and Hermione split up, leading to Harry and Hermione remarrying to each other. They have a daughter together, Nymphadora Ginevra Potter, who is now in her last year at Hogwarts.

James married Emily Longbottom, daughter of Neville and Luna and younger sister of his best friend Martin. They have two children, Tracey and Joshua.

Rose married Scorpius whilst still in school, with the result that their daughter Gemini is in the same year as Rose's half-sister Nymphadora. They also have a son, Balthasar.

Albus was killed when he was in his 20s. His girlfriend Melissa later gave birth to his son, Albus Potter Dorrans.

Lily married a muggle, Gordon Preston, and had a daughter, Amy. She has since left him for Martin Longbottom, who has two sons from his own estranged marriage.

Hugo married later in life than the others to his former classmate Marie Lucas.

Nymphadora is dating Bradley Wood, the grandson of Oliver Wood and Katie Bell. Aside from him and Gemini, her closest friends are muggleborn Beverley Cardogan, Maxwell Jordan (grandson of Lee Jordan and Angelina Johnson) and Flavia Lupin (daughter of Teddy and Victoire).

Harry has an estranged son, Philip Nave, who was the result of sleeping with Romilda Vane whilst under the influence of a love potion.

Enjoy!

CHAPTER ONE: Fears for the Future

Harry Potter looked into eyes filled with hatred. Possibly the most burning hatred he'd ever seen. Hatred greater than that he'd felt from Draco Malfoy or Snape. Greater than Rodolphus and Bellatrix Lestrange. Greater even, perhaps, than Voldemort. Eyes that looked disturbingly similar to his own.

"And how are you, Father?"askedthe owner of the eyes, his voice dripping with contempt.

"Philip,"Harry attempted. "It doesn't have to be like this."

Philip Nave, the son he didn't even know existed until he tried to kill him, gave a scornful laugh. "Oh yes, I've heard all this before. I can see the error of my ways and be invited into the bosom of the great Potter family. No doubt after a stint in Azkaban first, like you gave my mother before you killed her. It's too late for that, Father. Too late for anything except for you to die. Avada Kedavra!"

"Harry! Harry!"

The voice, more familiar to him than anything, jerked him awake, to the sight of Hermione's eyes, filled not with hatred but with love and concern for him. He looked around, taking in his surroundings. The Hogwarts Express, the place where he'd first met Hermione Granger…Hermione Potter, the woman who was now his wife, no longer a student but a professor at Hogwarts like him. And Philip Nave was…

Well. Not there.

"You were having another nightmare about Philip,"Hermione said, as if it was supposed to be news to him.

The nightmares had become more and more frequent ever since he'd been abducted by Philip during the Triwizard Tournament a few months earlier, forced to take part in a ritual that had made Philip stronger and nearly killed Harry himself.

"He's still out there,"he said quietly.

"He's not here,"Hermione pointed out. "James and the Order have searched the whole country, so have Scorpius and the Ministry. Even Inquisitor Nazarov."

Harry had turned sixty the previous year. Not old by wizarding standards, but old enough for him to have realised that some things should be left to the next generation. The Order of the Phoenix, reformed by him twenty years earlier in response to a resurgence of Death Eaters, was now led by his son James. The Ministry was led by Hermione's son-in-law, Scorpius Malfoy. He trusted both of them. Nazarov…not so much. Whilst he knew Nazarov was loyal to the ministry, somehow his interpretation of his orders had put him and Harry at odds many times over the last few years.

"I know,"he agreed. "But he's somewhere. And he won't just leave us alone. Sooner or later, he'll be back."

Hermione couldn't argue with that.

The couple's daughter was having less dark thoughts.

Nymphadora Potter, about to start her seventh year at Hogwarts, was elsewhere on the train, in one of the student carriages. Her semi-regular entourage surrounded her: Her boyfriend Bradley Wood; her niece Gemini Malfoy, the daughter of her half-sister Rose; her muggleborn best friend Beverley Cardogan; and her niece and nephew, Tracey and Joshua Potter, the children of her half-brother James.

"No Triwizard Tournament this year,"Bradley pointed out.

"I was never really in any danger,"Nymphadora reminded him. "As it turns out." Her status as a champion had caused no end of concern among her friends.

"And no-one from Durmstrung,"Gemini added. The fact Philip Nave had managed to get into Hogwarts as part of their delegation remained a sore point.

"We'll be too busy with our OWLs,"Tracey suggested. "Or NEWTs for you four." She shot a resentful look at her younger brother. "I suppose you'll be all right."

"Still got to choose my electives,"Joshua pointed out.

Beverley sighed. "Do you think it will just be a normal year?"

Nymphadora understood her concern. Their first two years at Hogwarts had been blighted by the terrorist group the True Way and the schism between Harry and his one-time best friend Ron Weasley, back when they ran the Order and the Ministry respectively. And since then they had been shadowed by Philip Nave and his grudge against her and her family. She tried to think of something comforting to say to her friend.

Then she gave up.

"No, probably not."
