Chapter 7: Covert Operation: Mission at Cloudtower
At Cloud Tower, three wicked witches were casting an Extreme Extraction spell. The villainous witches had successfully stolen Princess Stella's ring a few days ago, but most of their time focused on unlocking the ring's power. They were crossed-legged and hovering a few meters off the ground. In front of them was the ring of Solaria. They wailed and moaned like women in pain as they stared blankly upwards. The witches chanting emitted a wave of purple light magic which began to circle Stella's ring.
The dark magic attempted to smother the piece of jewelry only to combust as a result of the ring not being powerful enough to balance out the spell. The ring clattered to the ground as the witches growled after experiencing such a painful landing. During the explosion, the witches did make contact with something, their heads colliding with each other before they toppled to the ground in defeat.
Knut exited Darcy's closet nervously once the smoke had cleared. He spotted the girls on the ground and covered his mouth so they wouldn't notice him laughing at their misfortune.
"I think one of your thick skulls broke my nose," Darcy said, covering her face in pain.
Stormy weakly held up her index finger while saying, "We have to cast a safety shield spell next time!"
"I take it that the spell backfired again?" Knut asked, cowering behind the closet door so they wouldn't hit him again.
"If you talk one more time, I'm going to break your arm," Icy threatened.
"Shutting up now," Knut said, shaking nervously.
Darcy sighed, staring at the ceiling. "That actually couldn't have gone any worse than it just did," she lamented. "And I'm pretty positive my nose is broken."
"Darcy shut up!" Icy snapped, rubbing her shoulder. "You've been bitching since we started this stupid spell."
"Not my fault we've done this twelve times," Darcy said, continuing to rub her nose.
Icy rolled her eyes with an annoyed expression. "No, it is because I haven't seen the Great Dragon materialize yet and I'm doing my all! So, one of you is fucking up!"
"Yeah, Darcy, do better," Stormy shamed her sister while sneakily going next to her other sister. She wasn't going to be the one to blame right now.
"You're really lucky my nose is injured right now, or I'd be using a counterspell to turn you both into chickens, but I need to ice my face," Darcy stood up and staggered her way to the mini-fridge near her bed.
"Well, I'm not involved so I'm going back to bed, night," Knut said, closing the closet door.
"I swear to the eternal dragon if you get snot on my clothes again, it's your ass," Darcy threatened, pulling an ice pack out of her fridge.
"We failed. Eleven enchantments where nothing happened and then an explosion…" Stormy sighed, holding her head down in defeat. "And then nothing."
"We're going to be stuck like this forever," Darcy said nasally. Her nose seriously was broken to a degree, but the ice pack helped with the swelling.
"What are we missing?!" Icy said, examining the ring. "WHY CAN'T WE USE THE RING'S FULL POWER?! Darcy, did you do a Realm-wide search for all the jewelry spells that exist?!"
"I spent five hours searching the web and barely found anything," Darcy replied. "The ones I did find didn't work, so don't blame me."
"Unlocking the power of the Great Dragon is gonna take more than a spell or incantation," Stormy surmised.
"Stupid fucking ring, not only is it ugly, but it's also completely useless!" Icy said, tossing the ring halfway across the room. "How dare you defy me!"
"You sure showed that ring what for," Stormy sarcastically said.
"Don't try that shit with me right now!" Icy threatened, but Stormy just rolled her eyes and walked over to her bed. "After all I've been through to get my hands on this ring, I won't be talked to like that!"
Stormy chuckled condescendingly.
"Stella's ring may be powerful, but— Oh my Dragon, I'm pretty sure I'm bleeding now," Darcy said fretfully. She pulled her ice pack back and found drops of blood coming from her nose now. "Okay, one of you really does have a thick skull."
Stormy grabbed some tissues and passed them over to her sister. "Try not to bleed on the carpet, it took us forever to clean it up last time."
Darcy groaned.
"Anyways, get real, guys. That cheap costume jewelry never held the power of the Dragon!" Stormy said, rubbing her forehead. "It doesn't take a genius to figure that out."
"Oh, shut up, you were the one going, 'This is definitely going to work this time!'," Icy taunted in a mock-high pitched voice. She groaned trying to compose herself. After a second the ice witch brushed her hair back before saying, "This is just a minor setback, nothing can deter us from reaching our ultimate goal, the power of the Dragon's Flame will be ours, even if we must start the search all over again!"
After saying that though, she winced at the sound of the purple duck waddling up to her while quacking. She looked up at him and grunted in utter annoyance.
"Don't come near me," she said with a menacing glare.
The duck didn't listen and continued waddling over before hugging the witch's knee. Stormy and Darcy laughed, the latter flinching in pain.
Icy growled, gripping the duck tightly before saying in an angry tone, "I hate you!" With that, she tossed the duck across the room towards her closet. As many times before, the purple duck slid to the floor and then sprang up as if nothing happened.
"Why don't you just kill it?" Stormy asked.
"I wanted to, but this is a surprisingly good stress reliever," Icy responded, refixing her ponytail.
"Okay that was disturbing even for you," Knut said through the closed closet doors.
Icy smirked at the non-compliment.
...
Bloom entered the Alfea library and searched high and low for any book that would reveal to her the true power of Stella's ring and why the witches were so obsessed with it. The library table she occupied was stocked with stacks of books about magical artifacts. She was met with odd stares as she looked through each book, searching for anything important. The students had never seen a person this committed. After two hours had passed by, she eventually found a book titled 'Royal Magic'.
She immediately flipped through the pages until she finally came across what she was looking for. In the book, she found summaries of all the magical jewelry belonging to all kinds of royal families of different planets. Eventually, she found what she was looking for, there was indeed a short passage dedicated to Stella's scepter of solaria which read:
"The Scepter of Power belongs to the Prince or Princess of the Sun and Moon of Solaris. The wearer of the ring that is gifted to them transforms into what they want and imagine it to be. Centuries ago, the Solaria Scepter was sculpted out of a stone immersed in a ray of light. This light continues to flow to this day and is only one of the many gifts offered by the sacred fire that was sparked by the legendary dragon. This dragon also created the enchanted universe of the magical dimension."
After reading this, Bloom became curious to know more about the mythical dragon and its sacred fire. What could this mean for Stella's ring? What could this mean for her own powers? And most importantly, what was Stella's father like if the girl was seemingly terrified of telling him about what happened?
"This isn't a lot to go on, but it helps," she said, scratching her head. "I've gotta tell the girls about this."
Bloom picked up the thick book and checked it out at the librarian's desk. Before she left, she noticed the librarian had been glaring at her. She didn't understand why until the lady shifted her eyes to whatever was behind the Earth fairy. She followed the librarian's gaze to find that she had been staring at the mountain of books that Bloom had left on the table.
"Uh, I would help, but I have a thing… Outside of the library… Bye!" Bloom rushed out of the reading room leaving the exhausted woman to sigh while rubbing the temple of her forehead.
...
Sometime later Bloom met back up with the Winx, sans Stella, in the flat and showed them the thick book.
"I found everything we need to know about the ring," she said. "Well… I hope at least."
"Boy howdy that's reassurin'," Tecna replied, dryly. "A thick book where you might have the information we need. Maybe if you had let us fight them, we wouldn't be in the situation where you had to do that. We'd still have the ring."
"Cool you're still being an ass," Bloom said with an eye roll.
"That's ironic comin' from an ass," Tecna replied, glaring back at the girl.
Ever since the fight with the witches, Bloom and Tecna hadn't been on the best of terms. Most of their conversation was peppered with insults about the other girl or silent glares. They already said harsh words to each other. Mostly Tecna calling Bloom a silly earth girl and Bloom calling her a dumb hick. It didn't help that once they made it back to campus, Griselda was waiting for them, and she wasn't happy about it. She wasted the next two hours scolding the Winx, pretty much condemning them for being 'so reckless, childish, and possibly getting themselves killed!'."
They would've been punished if Faragonda hadn't stepped in and surprisingly given them a pass on this transgression. To say this angered the deputy headmistress was a huge understatement.
When they made it back to the dorm, Bloom and Tecna went to their respective room, both refusing to apologize. It seemed they were both too stubborn to do so. It made things pretty awkward for the other girls.
Flora tried reasoning with Bloom, preaching peace, and letting things go, but the artist blocked out by drawing, listening to music, or practicing her magic alone and Tecna had to listen to a chipper Musa begging her to let things go as well, but she focused on her studies.
"Come on you guys, we're friends," the chipper girl said after a few seconds of silence, trying to ease the tension once again. "It's been almost a week since we had to deal with those witches. Being cold towards each other gets us nowhere."
"Let's just go talk to Stella," Bloom replied, refusing to respond to what the chipper girl had said.
The girls could agree on that and headed into Stella's room; her door was closed. She had been secluded almost the entire time since the fight. The others weren't sure how she was doing after what she went through.
The only person she had even talked to was Bloom, which involved lots of hugs, something she hated, mostly due to feeling uncomfortable with certain smells and warm bodies against hers, but she gave the Princess a pass since the girl had been deeply depressed since they got back to the flat.
Bloom sighed before knocking on the door, unsure if the Princess would even let them in. After a few seconds passed, the Princess's voice called, "It's not locked you can come in."
Bloom slowly opened the door where she and the other girls found the Princess sprawled out on her bed, book in hand and wearing reading glasses. She looked content especially compared to her isolation over the last few days.
"Greetings ladies," Stella said, flipping to another page. "Have you gals read Jack's Adventures? It's quite a fascinating read."
"You're reading?" Bloom questioned, pretending to be shocked. "I didn't expect you to be reading a chapter book."
Stella moved her eyes from her book with a curt smile. She removed her reading glasses, closed her novel, and sat up putting the book on her nightstand. "Oh Bloomie, never one to hold back on jokes. It makes me feel better. I know you didn't just come for that though; you're worried I'm not doing well, aren't you?"
"Well, I mean-" Bloom started, before being interrupted by Musa.
"Yes, we don't want you still feeling down in the dumps after what happened," she said, walking over and hugging the Princess.
Stella giggled, patting the girl on the back before pulling away. "I'm fine darlings. Yes, I was frazzled last week, but that was because I had just been released from a mind spell, but I am doing fine."
"Are you sure?" Tecna asked, sounding skeptical.
"One hundred percent, I'm not even knackered anymore," Stella said, walking over to her vanity table and reaching for a tube of lip gloss, and casually applying it to her lips. "I love orange-flavored lipstick. Anyways, your concerns have been heard, but I'm fine."
"Okay, so have you told your father about the ring issue?" Bloom asked. Once she said it though she regretted it as Stella tensed up, avoiding eye contact with the girls. "I mean, you don't have to answer that if you don't want to."
"My father doesn't need to hear about that because we're going to get my ring back and everything will be fine. Everything is fine. This is fine. I'm fine. Okay? I'm fine," Stella giggled again then plopped down on her bed. "Now what was it you wanted?"
The Winx, sans Stella, eyes shifted towards each other, unsure of what to say next. It was clear Stella was hiding her true worries about what happened and about her father, but she seemed to be burying those concerns deeply. She just kept a smile as she waited for them to say something. Just as she said what she had, Kiko entered the room as if he was beckoned to be there. He looked at everyone then at Stella. Without a second thought, he jumped up on her lap and rested there while purring softly and trilling.
"Why, what a pleasant surprise," Stella cooed, scratching the cat's neck. "Kiko hasn't paid me any mind since we met and now, he's on my lap. He must know how amazing I am."
Bloom bit her lip. Kiko only did that when he knew someone was depressed, he did the same to her whenever she felt down. She sighed before saying, "Uh, I found out more about your ring and wanted to tell you, but you might know most of it already."
"Eh, I might, but I'd love to hear about my family heirloom," Stella said, patting the bed so Bloom could sit next to her. "Father could only tell me so much about it. He did about as much research as I did."
Bloom chuckled, before saying, "It's a long and weird story."
She sat down next to Stella, flipping open the book. The other girls entered the room, Flora and Musa plopped down on the floor and Tecna sat down in the chair at Stella's vanity table. Once Bloom arrived at the page, she left bookmarked with a pencil and cleared her throat.
"All right, this is what I know so far: The ring is so powerful because it was created directly from sunlight, the purest source of magic in the universe. But the most interesting part is that some say the ring is extra special because it's made of the same light that created this legendary creature called "The Great Dragon"," she paused, turning to Stella. "Does this sound familiar to you?"
Stella pursed her lips as she tapped her chin before responding, "Hm... I know about the sunlight stuff, but the great dragon stuff is far beyond my scope, my tutors neglected to teach me about the being that created everything."
"Seriously?" Bloom questioned, confused. "How is that possible, you're the Princess of an entire planet and they never talked about this dragon thing?"
Stella averted eye contact while rubbing her neck. "Well… other things were going on at the time." She cleared her throat and refused to look into her bestie's curious eyes, "look, did you find anything else?"
Bloom paid her no mind and continued, "Well it was one of the many gifts offered by the Great Sacred Fire. After that, the Scepter of Solaria was passed down from King to Queen and took the form that the wearer sees fit. That's why it looks the way it does for you, but your grandmother's Scepter looked like this." Bloom turned the book, so it faced Stella. The other girls craned their heads and crowded Stella to take a look.
Her grandmother, a woman with red flowing hair and wearing a jeweled gown held a Scepter encrusted in multicolored jewels such as diamonds.
"Cool! It's got so many diamonds," Musa noted. The other girls mumbled their awe and agreed with the excited girl.
Stella however, looked up and shrugged, "I wanted to keep mine simple,"
Bloom moved the book back around and looked at Stella, "Yeah but what's interesting is that you're the first child born from a mix of the sun drop and moon dew." Bloom looked back down at the book, "That's pretty cool," she said in a near whisper.
"Yeah, I'm so excited I came from two people who spent my whole childhood bickering," Stella scoffed absentmindedly but coughed to try and hide her resentment. "I mean… they bickered, but like, in a cute marriage kind of way…"
"I get what you mean," Bloom nodded, smiling fondly at the memories of her parents back home in Gardenia. "Trust me, it's still really cool. Even though you're essentially a mix of both sun and moon, the Scepter is still, like, linked in your blood. Part of the lineal right of the Princess or Prince of Solaria. That means it belongs to you!"
"No bleeding duh!" Stella scoffed. "I could have told you that."
Bloom frowned, "Right."
"I don't even need to be here right now," Tecna stood and stretched out her arms above her head.
"Oh, give me a break, this was all I could find," Bloom sent a glare toward Tecna which was returned with a similar glare from the southern-sounding girl.
"All of this information is cool and all, but it still doesn't explain why those witches are so interested in it." Musa put a finger on her chin as if trying to work out the world's hardest math problem. The rest of the girls looked toward her, but Bloom groaned, falling on the bed flat on her stomach. Stella patted her head sympathetically.
"Well, maybe it's because of how powerful it's suppos' to be an' all," Tecna shrugged. "If it was really made by the Great Dragon, may they be real or not, then I can understand why they'd want it."
Bloom sat back up, "Wait, do you guys not believe in the Great Dragon?" she tried to meet the eyes of all of the girls in the room. Each girl looked as if they were deep in thought, thinking of their answers.
Stella was the first to speak, "I'm not sure if the Dragon existed for real or not. I always thought of it as a mythical symbol, but my parents are strong believers in it."
"I think it does exist, but as my papa told me most of the stories about it are very debated," Musa added.
"Personally, I believe it represents an ideal. Ya know, the embodiment of good versus evil." Tecna said.
Bloom scoffed which earned another glare from the towering girl. The other girls shifted nervously whenever the awkward tension returned, but Flora, who had been silent for a long while, spoke up, "It's an interesting thing really because some say the Dragon and some say God, but like, the Dragon is more commonly used. I, for one, think it does exist, but the elders such as fairies, witches, and wizards contributed more to creating the world."
"Agreed," Stella and Musa said.
"Ney," Tecna said with a raised hand, but she chortled after saying it. The other girls laughed with her. "I respect different opinions though, minus Bloom's."
"Ditto," Bloom grumbled. She scratched her head unsure of what to say next. She had always had her indifferent beliefs on religion back on Earth, but now that she knew magic existed, she reasoned some mythical being created the world, not a god per se, but something. "I don't know, with this being a magical world and all I wouldn't cross out the possibility that there might be a Non-denominational Dragon God."
"I'm usin' that," Tecna mumbled begrudgingly.
Bloom smirked glad she could get the Texan-sounding girl to agree with her on something. "Wait, is that why you guys keep saying 'Oh my Dragon' and 'OMD'?"
The group nodded.
"I try not to say it as much," Musa replied. "Papa told me to never take the Dragon's name in vain. So, when I do say it, I say it happily."
"I can tell," Stella and Bloom said in unison.
The Princess turned to her bestie before asking, "What do you guys say back on Earth?"
Bloom shrugged. "Oh my God, Jesus, Christ, Jesus Christ, and sometimes we say it in different ways," she chuckled. "Sometimes, I say 'holy shit', it's like something really powerful has happened or you saw something cool."
Stella giggled. "We say some of those variations here." she paused for a moment crossing her legs. "Is there a cool story behind your Dragon God?"
Bloom cleared her throat, "It's a long story that I don't want to go into, might be a dragon, man, star, fish, who knows. I'm agnostic back on Earth that essentially means-"
"We dadgum know what it means, we ain't idiots," Tecna replied dryly.
"Wasn't talking to you," Bloom said, averting eye contact with the girl, but showing an aggravated expression that only the other girls saw. "Either way, we have to figure out a way to get that ring back, if there is some strong magic in it, we should get it back pronto."
"And we will," Stella said, perking up. "Those wicked witches think they won, but I know we can think of a kick-arse plan to get my ring back."
"We should give them a name. Saying wicked witches and stuff doesn't roll off the tongue," Musa said.
"One thing at a time sho't stack," Tecna told her, trying to focus on the main topic. "First we gotta get that ring back."
"Yeah, I'm utterly useless without it," Stella lamented rubbing her ring finger where the piece of jewelry formally adorned it.
"Yeah, I heard in Magical Defense class you got beat by a Keekbug," Musa said giggling.
"What the hell is a Keekbug?" Bloom asked, chuckling.
Stella blushed so hard that her skin turned bright pink. "I swore those bleeding muppets to secrecy! They weren't supposed to tell anyone!"
Bloom laughed at the word muppets, but also at Stella's embarrassment, everyone else sans the Princess followed suit. She grumbled under her breath while crossing her arms.
"Right, you had your fun, now I need to rest," Stella said, standing up and begging to usher the group out of her room. "Reconvene before lunch so we can concoct a plan to retrieve my ring."
"You sure Stel?" Bloom questioned. "We don't want to take too long just in case those witches-"
"There's this interesting thing about the ring, if something bad did happen I'd feel it," Stella reassured. "It's been well over a week, and I haven't felt even a minor heartache. It's weird but I think we still have time. You trust me, right?"
Bloom bit her bottom lip. "...yeah."
"Good now that we've gotten that settled, leave," Stella said standing next to the door, waiting for the girls to exit her room. One by one each girl left, but as Bloom attempted to leave the room her bestie grabbed her arm and slammed the door while stepping in front of it.
"Except you," Stella said with a playful smile.
"Oh no, not more hugs," Bloom fretted, waving her hands in front of her and squirming to try and get away from the smiling girl. Despite her efforts, however, Stella still managed to grab her arm again and pull her into a tight embrace. "Please don't be the only reason you trapped me in here."
Pulling away from Bloom, Stella giggled softly. She held a finger up and gestured for Bloom not to go anywhere. She walked around her bed and reached into the drawer of her dresser, pulling out a box. Stella looked at Bloom with a grin, "I got you a gift for saving me."
Bloom's eyes shifted as she felt her body tense up. "Stel, you know I wasn't the only one, right? I don't really deser-"
"Don't even finish that sentence. You most certainly deserve a gift, you're the one who had to make the tough decision." Stella smiled fondly, retrieving a small red box from underneath her bed. "You could have left me for crepe's sake. You didn't. You're the greatest friend I've ever had- well… the only friend I've ever had." Stella held the box toward Bloom who took it hesitantly. "Look, if you don't like it, I'll gladly return it for something better, but you can't just pass up on a gift from a Princess. I put a lot of thought into this."
Bloom sighed heavily. "Fine." She opened the box and pulled out a necklace, a hot pink, possibly real leather, choker specifically with a large silver heart in the middle, like a buckle on a belt that held the leather band together. She whistled while looking it over. "Oh wow, this is really…"
"Amazing? Lovely? Adorable? Super versatile?"
"Gaudy."
Stella gasped and held her hand to her chest as if she'd just been shot or stabbed, right in the heart. "Okay, it is not garish. That is an adorable choker that I had specifically made for you and sent here. Do you know how weird it is to ask a tailor to make a choker? He thought I was insane… no offense or anything. Anyway, it'll look good on you."
"Nice save," Bloom smirked.
Stella took a breath and sent her friend a pleading look, "I know I said I'd return it, but I think you'd look cute in it."
Bloom thought for a moment, "You know what would look cute on you? That ring of yours."
Stella crossed her hands, frowning. "Let's not focus on that."
"All right. All right. I'll keep it, but I won't make any promises about wearing it,"
Stella clapped, smiling. "I'll take it, but I have to ask… uh…I mean no harm, but-"
"Why do I wear chokers?" Bloom said, keeping her eyes on the one she had now. She wondered if this was the pink color Stella had tried to concoct in the potions lab. "Or am I just guessing?"
"You're right, my apologies," Stella quickly answered. "It's just in Solaria it has so many meanings… none of them good."
Bloom chuckled. "It's cool, Earth is similar with their views on chokers, even my fellow gothies question it."
"Did you just say gothies?" Stella asked giggling.
Bloom's eyes darted to the Princess with a smirk. "That stays between us."
"Well, dish bestie, tell me why," Stella bumped her arm against Bloom's. "Is it something incredibly deep, emotional, ooh is it embarrassing?" Stella looked eager at the last part as she started bouncing on her toes.
"Dude, it's none of that. Mostly I like wearing them, they look cool and make me look awesome. Well, that and the trinkets are fun to fiddle with," she answered, removing her black choker with the dangling heart in the middle and exposing her partially paler neck. "Some things don't have a deep meaning."
"My word, you should add sunblock to your gorgeous neck at least," Stella complimented. "I have some cream for that."
"Shush," Bloom said, wrapping the choker around her neck and locking the back clasp. She walked over to Stella's vanity mirror and stared at herself in the choker. She resisted the urge to cringe at the hot pink, unsure of what to say. Her expression didn't help matters. She had a crooked smile and raised eyebrows as she stared at her reflection.
"Darling, isn't it?" Stella questioned, bumping her arm against Bloom's.
"Um…" Bloom started, but before she could finish her answer a voice popped in saying, Be nice.
Damn conscience. Bloom cursed back in her head. "It's… nice?"
Stella gave her a weird look but shrugged it off. She gave her best friend a quick side hug while saying, "You're my bestie for so many reasons and you deserve the best from me."
Bloom smiled nervously as Stella made her way toward her bed. The gothie spoke up again, "Uh, Stel?"
Stella turned to face Bloom but was surprised to see the girl fidgeting with the box in her hand, looking very nervous. Unknown to Stella however, Bloom was trying extremely hard to come up with the right words to say.
When her bestie took too long to speak, Stella replied, "If you honestly don't want it then-."
"No, no it's not that. I appreciate the thought put into this gift."
"Okay, then what?"
Bloom cleared her throat and looked Stella in her eyes. "Are you really, okay? With your ring being gone I mean?"
Stella smiled; a smile Bloom noted was just a bit too big to be sincere. "I already told you, love, I'm fine."
"Yeah… you say that. I'm just a little worried about you. You seemed really distressed about your ring and your dad finding out… he's not going to be livid, is he?"
Bloom noticed Stella stiffen. She moved her foot slightly to go to Stella but paused. What was she going to do? Where do you come from in this situation without being too nosy? She wasn't sure, but she wasn't going to ignore the elephant in the room.
"Stella, if something is wrong, then just tell me," Bloom said calmly walking towards the Princess. "You're still upset about what happened."
"Upset? Do I seem upset to you?" Stella questioned, somewhat surprised. She walked away from the girl towards one of her wardrobe closets and started flipping through dresses. She kept her eyes off the girl avoiding the interrogation. "I must be doing something wrong because I'm not upset. I'm just a tad stressed, yes, but other than that I am f-"
"Fine, yeah I get it," Bloom said, rubbing her forehead. "Except you're not, you've been stuck in here for about a week and you've stopped hanging out with us… why are you- "
"Does this dress look darling or what?" Stella turned around holding a hot pink bodycon dress as she deflected from the original conversation. "I have to wear this to a club if I haven't already."
Stella chuckled admiring the dress while Bloom let out an aggravated sigh. Kiko meowed softly trying to calm the tension, but it only made things worse.
"This is getting me nowhere," Bloom mumbled. "Stella, stop changing the subject and focus!"
"There's nothing to focus on, I. Said. I'm. Fine. Okay?" Stella cocked her head to the left and smiled widely, but her smile looked and felt so fake to Bloom. Something like Mitzi would show after making a snide comment, but with Stella, she wasn't being rude, she was hiding her rage. "So, if you could quit playing therapist and let me get to my book that'd be perfect."
Bloom rubbed the temple of her forehead, not sure what to say next without making the Princess snap at her.
Kiko seemed to agree with her as he calmly walked over to Stella and stretched his body upward on her leg. The Princess smiled and patted his head. If only she knew his intentions to comfort her.
"So… fine, you're fine, this is fine, everything is fine," Bloom said, nodding calmly. It was clear to her she wasn't going to get through Stella's walls anytime soon. All she could do was scoop up Kiko, grab the gift box and leave. "I'm going to try and find out why those witches are so interested in that ring. I might go back to the library or talk to Faragonda."
"Okay that sounds great, I might do some research as well," Stella replied, opening her door. "I'm so happy you at least tolerate the gift. Knew you would, bestie."
"Yeah... never really had a friend give me anything like this. Thanks," Bloom said, keeping it around her neck. "See you later?"
"Duh, we have to formulate a plan after all," Stella said giggling.
Bloom sighed, "Right… enjoy your book." She almost left before Stella grabbed her shoulder.
"Also try to at least talk to Tecna, the deafening silence and glares are taking a toll on dear Musa and possibly Flora," she said motioning over to Musa who was happily sipping juice in the kitchen. "She hides it well."
"Probably… I'll try," Bloom promised. Although she was secretly thinking, After she stops being an ass.
"Thank you, well I'll get back to reading… come back early if you want to just chat," Stella said hesitantly.
Bloom nodded with a reassuring smile. With that, the Princess slowly closed the door. She sadly sighed, placing Kiko on the floor. She unlocked the chain on the gift choker and stared at it, silently wondering how Stella could keep up a facade that well.
Unbeknownst to her, once Stella closed her door she slid to the floor as the panic settled in. She felt her eyes well up with tears, but she was too tired to fight back. Her phone began ringing as she sat there crying. She knew the ring was safe, but she wasn't sure how much longer she had left or the thought of telling her father… how would he react?
Outside Bloom placed the choker box on the first table she could find, put her regular one on, and left the suite.

Walking down the hallway, Bloom contemplated talking to Faragonda about what she'd learned in the library. The Winx were under specific orders from Stella not to tell anyone about her stolen ring. So, Bloom had to be very subtle. That is if she decided to talk to Faragonda.
"How am I going to talk to Faragonda without it being weird and awkward?" she mumbled to herself. The last time the history of magic was discussed the elderly woman tensed up and her warm disposition turned cold. Bloom didn't want to put her through that again. Stuck in her thoughts, she hadn't noticed the woman she was worried about, walking toward her.
"Bloom darling… Hello?" Bloom looked up in shock, having to catch her breath. "I didn't mean to scare you," Faragonda chuckled at the flustered girl. "How's it going?"
"Sorry, I didn't see you there. I'm good, thank you," Bloom smiled. Looking around, she noticed that she was just outside the Headmistress' office. "Huh, well look at that I'm at your office!"
"I noticed."
"Yeah, that- it- you are- we are- how are you doing? You look as Stella puts it, effervescent as usual," Bloom asked flustered. She crossed her arms with a nervous smile.
Faragonda cocked her head to the left, unsure of what was wrong with the girl. "I'm doing quite fine, and I hope you're doing well, now if you'll excuse me."
She shuffled past Bloom into the room, but the young fairy stopped her. "Uh, wait! Uh, um, you see I wanted to- but you're probably-" she rambled uncontrollably. Why was she so nervous? "I should go."
Faragonda raised an eyebrow concerned, "My dear, oh dear, oh dear, whatever you want to tell me must be urgent, come along." The headmistress ushered Bloom into her office and sat her down in front of her desk.
"If you're busy, Headmistress Faragonda, I don't want to bother you."
The woman chuckled as she waved the girl off, "Nonsense, I won't ignore a student in need, plus any work I have can be taken care of by Jeanie."
Bloom nodded, "Oh okay," She felt so safe talking to the Headmistress. It was weird for her. She was never close to any teachers before. She's actually had extremely bad luck with them.
"And as I've told you, Headmistress Faragonda is so droll, just call me Faragonda or Doretha," Faragonda said, patting the chair. "I never liked calling my elders Headmistress and Master, it sounded too formal. We're a family here at Alfea, at least we try to be."
Bloom nodded, mentally noting that in her head, but she still felt strange about it and wasn't going too far to call a faculty member by their government name.
Bloom was about to ask a question when Faragonda shuffled, a chair that magically moved backward so that the woman could take her seat at the wide desk covered in papers. She reached inside one of her bottom desk drawers and pulled out a plate of toffee chocolate chip cookies and a purple tea set. Even though it was in… a drawer the cookies and tea both looked warm. "Would you like some tea dearie? Cookies?"
Boom scooped up a couple of cookies and practically swallowed one whole in front of the Headmistress. The elderly woman giggled at the girl's eager appetite.
Unlike the cookies, Bloom eyed the tea warily, "Uhh, I'm not much of a tea drinker."
"You can't pass up what I made. Here, try a cup." Faragonda poured some tea into a cup and handed it to Bloom.
"Okay, thanks," Bloom relented, taking the fancy teacup. She sniffed the tea warily. Faragonda stared at her peacefully waiting to try her treat. After a second, she took a long sip, if it was bad at least she could chug it down at once, but as she swished it around in her mouth she smiled. "Mm, blueberry?"
"And lemon," Faragonda answered. Bloom held out her cup to ask for more to which the Headmistress obliged. While she enjoyed her tea, the Headmistress leaned back in her chair and sent a sincere smile toward the girl in front of her, "You know… Jeanie was positively fuming when she found out about your little mission to save Miss Davenwood. Went for twenty minutes about how you're a no-good group of rapscallions teens… her words."
Bloom almost dropped her cup straight on her lap, she'd forgotten about that. "Oh right! Please don't punish us, or just punish me! Punish me. It was all my idea to sneak out." She paused, focusing on the last sentence Faragonda said, "She called us rapscallions?"
Headmistress Faragonda chuckled, "Oh please, I'm not mad. Quite the contrary, I would've done the same for my friend. Jeanie can just be a 'by the rules' type of person, you know what I mean?"
Bloom nodded eagerly and sighed in relief, "Do you call her Jeanie to mess with her?"
Faragonda took a long sip from her teacup before quickly pulling it away and answering, "…Sometimes," she winked. The teen girl laughed and picked up her cup again, taking a sip. "Don't tell anyone I said this but… I look at it like this, you were going on a mission to save your friend and didn't get hurt and didn't hurt anyone else, thankfully all you did was find her, thankfully you didn't get into some battle."
"Yup!" Bloom lied. The excuse they came up with is they found Stella at the house but conveniently left out the part about the witches.
"Good," Faragonda nodded. "Plus, I've done something similar for one of my friends. It's what you do for the people you care about; she is your best friend after all."
Bloom smiled fondly into her cup, "So she keeps saying."
Faragonda gives her a knowing look, "I had a friend like you. Don't worry, you'll come around." After another sip from her cup, she cleared her throat, "Just next time… Be more careful, my student's safety comes first, of course."
Bloom nodded in agreement, "Of course. We won't let it happen again." Too bad that part was a lie. "So… you know a lot about magic… right?"
Faragonda nodded. "Yes, I've spent most of my life studying it, using it, and teaching others," she answered. "Let's just say I've had centuries' worth of practice."
Bloom paused from her tea drinking. "Centuries?" her eyes widened. "You said… that's hundreds of years- you're- Oh my God." Bloom grinned rocking in her chair eagerly. "How old are-"
"Bloom, you mustn't ask a woman's age," Faragonda said, dipping a cookie into her tea. She gave the girl a sweet grin to show she was kidding, but added, "let's just say a fairy godmother isn't a short-time gig."
Bloom grinned. "Oh my God, this is awesome!" As she was gushing with joy, she quickly remembered why she was there. "Oh uh, that's not why I brought up my question; you… What do you know about the Great Dragon?"
Faragonda tensed up again as she nibbled on her dipped cookie. The woman gulped nervously. Bloom swore she could hear a pin drop from the silence. This was worse than last time, but she just had to know.
"Well, I can see why you found it important to talk to me," the woman said, placing her teacup down on the desk.
"Yeah, I go straight for the jugular," Bloom joked, startling the woman. "Earth phrase."
"Right," Faragonda said, trying to compose herself as she straightened up in her chair. "You want to know about the Great Dragon. It's quite a long story, but if you're ready to hear it, I'll delve into a little of what I know."
"I'm ready," Bloom replied, matching Faragonda's posture as her body tensed.
Faragonda heaved a deep sigh as she folded her hands on her desk as Bloom had seen when she first entered this office before parting her lips to say, "What I'm about to disclose is something that is a soft spot in my heart, I wasn't exactly there to witness it, but… well like I said it's a long and complex story that I can try to summarize.
"Nobody knows when or how he was formed… nobody even knows if he's real, but there's a being that is believed to have created the universe called the Great Dragon. When he was awakened, he used his powerful and fiery breath to create a multitude of different worlds, created the sun, moon, and spread life across the universe."
She paused, placing a finger on her chin as she seemed to be thinking of her next words to say.
"There are many interpretations of the Dragon's origins. Some believe it's a female, some a male, some that it can change into different beings, some believe it did everything and is still with us, some think it went away and some simply believe the dragon is a state of being that the world was simply formed by elders and such and the dragon was a symbol."
"What do you believe, Faragonda?" Bloom asked, curious.
"Funny, I've never been asked that before," the elderly woman said with a surprised smile. "I believe he is real; I call the Dragon he, old ways and all, but I think he is real and contributed to the creation of everything… but I don't believe he's around."
"Why's that?"
"That leads into the next part of the story," Faragonda replied. "Well, it's believed once the dragon created the worlds and at the end of his journey, he landed on a world that would become known as Domino, the epicenter of the magical universe. He made it his home and eventually became one with the very planet itself. Obviously, Domino is- was real, but some don't believe a dragon would rest there."
Bloom tilted her head. "Was?"
Faragonda tapped her ring finger on her teacup as she trembled slightly. "It used to be a happy and prosperous place before dark forces attacked Domino and put out the Dragon's Flame once and for all. They were after the King and Queen, but once they were defeated, they destroyed the entire planet… and took those on it. The Magical Dimension hasn't been the same since."
"So, everyone on that planet… died?"
"I mean it's believed they perished, but I have hope they're okay… I have hope they're still alive and… safe in a way, because if they're not..." the headmistress paused, her lip quivering.
Bloom placed her hand on top of the woman's, and she gave her a soft smile, something she never usually gave faculty or anyone not close to her. "Don't lose that hope."
"Thank you, Bloom," Faragonda said. She slowly moved her hand from the young fairy's to grab a handkerchief from a top desk drawer and dabbed her eyes from the small tears forming from the corners. "I must ask Bloom, what brings so much interest in the Great Dragon's history?"
"Well after…" Bloom paused thinking about how to word her next sentence without revealing the full truth. "After we got away from those witches and such, Stella and I were curious about her ring and the history because we were just curious, and stuff like that. So, I was in the library and after searching for hours I found this thick book and found some answers. Also, tell the librarian that I'm sorry for the mess I left."
Faragonda chuckled, "My dear I have grown quite a liking to you, even though you and your friends seem to leave a mess wherever you go. I don't mind but I know Jeanie does."
"I'm glad you do, Headmistress, oh I mean, Faragonda," Bloom said, taking another sip from her tea. "But we are curious about the ring and what power it plays. Does it have some huge importance?"
"Hm… not really," Faragonda admitted. "Gifted to the great dragon, he gave it some power to the wielder, and it's been passed down for the last… couple thousand years. It's interesting, but it's not this all-powerful artifact, why? Did something happen to Stella's ring?"
"No," Bloom hastily replied. She had to change the subject quickly. "I'm just curious about this world and wanted to find out more. I just had a good excuse this time. I searched so much that I almost gave up and then the book just appeared… To be fair I cleaned out the section it was in, but still. Is it okay if I do this?"
"Of course!" Faragonda said, perking up. "I encourage learning about history and coming to me, I do get a bit emotional, but I have lived a long fruitful life and can detail as much as I can."
"Are you one hun-" Bloom started, but Faragonda brought up an index finger.
"I'm not telling you how old I am," Faragonda answered before the perplexed girl could ask. Bloom exaggeratedly snapped her fingers making both women laugh.
Bloom chuckled. She nibbled on her bottom lip and then added, "This is so weird, no offense Faragonda, but usually, the principal at my school is like… Jeanie."
"I understand, my former Headmistress was stricter than a Red Fountain drill sergeant," Faragonda chuckled while reminiscing about the olden days. "I try to be more relaxed with my students. Everyone should walk around with a smile."
Faragonda giggled, pouring more tea into Bloom's cup, a little droplet emptying the pot. "My word, we're out of tea. Darn, it'll take me thirty minutes to make another batch. My homebrew is bloody difficult to make perfectly."
"I can tell," Bloom said, licking her lips. "Well with that I should be on my way… after I finish my tea and cookies." Her eyes shifted toward the empty plate of cookies nervously. This can't be the end of the delicious visit. "You have more cookies, right?"
"Oh my, I'm not sure," Faragonda replied, tapping her chin. She pulled open another drawer and pulled out a jar of toffee chip cookies. Bloom's eyes had a twinkle as she danced around happily in her head. "Tell nobody about this."
"Secret is between us," Bloom said as the elderly woman opened the jar. She immediately snatched seven cookies from the jar as Faragonda watched on happily. "Faragonda, ever heard of Mary Poppins?"
Faragonda tilted her head confused. "No, is it one of those fairy tales?"
"More like an Earth story, you see you're her but without the umbrella, but mixed with the fairy godmother from this fairy tale called Cinderella."
"Go on," Faragonda said, relaxing back in her seat.
"Yes!" Bloom cheered. "Oh, and this show will be great to use on Griselda, a little show called 'I Dream of Jeannie' spelled with two N's."
Instead of leaving like she was planning, Bloom dove into the characters in fiction back on Earth that reminded her of the people she'd met in the Magic Universe so far. Another twenty minutes before Bloom realized she should probably get back and tell the girls what she found out. She had already finished her tea and filled her belly with cookies so it was probably time to go before she couldn't move from her full stomach.
She gave her goodbye to Faragonda and then left the office with a smile on her face, matching the elderly woman's.
...
Bloom walked down the hallway, smiling to herself as she thought about the conversation she had with Faragonda. She instantly fell in love with the fairy godmother and loved telling her about Earth and listening to her stories about the Magic universe. She paused in front of her suite door, giggling to herself. As she opened the door, however, her giggles were stopped by the boisterous laugh of Stella and the mixed chuckles and giggles from the rest of her roommates.
The Princess wiped a tear from her eye and noticed Bloom walking into the living area. "Bloom, darling, you're here!" She jumped over the legs of Flora and Musa who were sitting on the carpet with their legs out, and reached Bloom, grabbing her by the arm. Bloom would normally resist the physical touch but was too busy being happy that Stella was perking up. Leading her to the rest of the girls, She giggled once again, "we were talking about the Trix and how goofy the white-haired minger acts when she doesn't get her way,"
Flora nudged Musa, and they laughed out loud looking at each other. It seemed that the two girls would start laughing all over again every time they looked at each other.
Bloom sat on the single-seat sofa and looked confused. "I must have missed something. Who are the Trix?"
Musa tore her gaze away from Flora and caught her breath, "Oh, well that's the nickname we gave our three favorite witches."
Bloom looked at the girl, smirking. "That's a little goofy sounding, makes them sound like this cereal mascot back on earth. I don't think they're the type to eat fruit-flavored cereal. Bones and souls, maybe."
Musa started laughing once again, imagining the Trix on the front of a cereal box. "Earth culture is awesome so far," she said, nudging Flora.
The flower fairy nodded giggling.
Tecna, however, looked toward the red-haired girl and smirked. She stood by herself giving the girl another judgmental look. "Figures you'd have an issue with that, Fyrecracker."
Musa jumped in her seat and clapped happily, instantly forgetting that just a second prior, she was almost dying of laughter. "You called her by her nickname!"
The two girls in question looked at anything else but each other, Bloom awkwardly cleared her throat. "Yeah, cool. I can call you by your nickname, but it's a little more adult."
Tecna shrugged and confidently faced Bloom, "say whatever you want."
Musa slumped back down, "Guys, please… I hate seeing my friends fight. Everything is fine and it worked out, just… apologize to each other," Flora looked at Musa sympathetically and Stella looked a little guilty.
Bloom and Tecna looked at each other, unwilling to apologize first or even say anything. Bloom wasn't sure what Tecna was thinking, but she hated apologizing when she felt it wasn't her fault. She did what she thought was right to save Stella, but she didn't want to make enemies with her own roommate. Where would they go from there?
As Bloom prepared herself to change the subject, the calming voice returned after being silent for the last hour or so. Do the right thing, it'll relieve some tension.
You're starting to annoy me, Bloom subconsciously replied.
She cleared her throat again, "I'm not going to drop to my knees and apologize and I'm not going to say what I did was wrong because it did save Stella, but I can say I've been acting dumb, and I'm sorry."
"Right, apology accepted, and you were actin' dumb," Tecna replied, crossing her arms, but when she ended her sentence there everyone stared at her waiting for more. She sighed, "And I apologize fo' snappin' at cha. While I still reckon you were bein' more rash than a hunter who mistakenly shot his cousin thinkin' he busted into his house, it came from a good place."
"Why did the hunter have a gun at the ready?" Stella questioned. "Wouldn't he have locked his doors?
"That's not the point I was makin'!" Tecna exclaimed. "Just, know I am a woman of honah and it's right to apologize back. So, you know, I'm so'ry."
"Right, there we got that out the way," Bloom said, crossing her arms. "Can we focus on the matter at hand?"
"Agreed," Tecna said sitting down on the couch.
Musa clapped eagerly. This was as far as an apology the two would get and as close as they'd be for the time being, but it warmed the chipper fairy's heart.
"Look, the name is goofy sounding, but it fits them, and we're going to get that ring back... if everyone is on board?" Bloom stood and very obviously changed the subject away from herself.
"Doesn't seem I have much of a say in the matter now do I?" Tecna scoffed and folded her arms.
"Glad you're on board," Bloom responded dryly. She turned her attention over to the Princess who smiled back at her. "Stel, are you ready for this?"
"More than ever," Stella eagerly replied. "I seriously need my ring back guys, my fath- I have been lost without it," she stammered. "So, what did you find out about my ring?"
"Nothing much, I learned about the Great Dragon, but we can't use that information to retrieve the ring," Bloom answered. "This is going to sound insane, but we might need to go to Cloud Tower and get the ring."
"Whatever we do, we can't piss off the Headmistress there," Stella said, shivering in fear. "Griffin is just as terrifying as every other witch there."
"No, no, that's not what I mean… we need to find a way to sneak into their room and get the ring," Bloom explained. She was met with shocked and scared expressions when she gave this response. "Let me explain-"
"We are enemies again!" Tecna said, pointing her scarred arm at the girl angrily. "Are you out of gum chewin' mind! Sneak into Cloud Tower to retrieve a ring!"
"We can do it!" Bloom replied, pounding her fist in her open palm. "Maybe we can sneak in as students."
"Oooh clothing change!" Stella perked up but then frowned. "I don't want to wear witch clothes."
"We might have to," Flora replied after being silent for so long. The girls stared at her surprised, mostly from the fact she finally spoke.
Stella stood up, rubbing her chin. "Well, if we're doing this-"
"We shouldn't be doin' this though!" Tecna reasoned, gaining an eye roll from Bloom. "Is anyone listenin' to me, we should just talk to Griffin, she should be reasonable."
Stella stared at the girl blankly before saying, "A witch once stole my roommate's cell phone, and she went to get it back. Went to Griffin and explained everything. That wicked witch told her it was the witch's phone now and cursed her with jelly legs for a week."
The girls all stared at Tecna, who blushed angrily. She swallowed her pride before saying, "Cool, so you were sayin'."
"Yes, now magic could work for the outfit changes, but maybe…" Stella's eyes shifted to Bloom who looked behind her and then stiffened once she knew what her bestie was thinking. "Bloom… what size did you say you were again?"
Oh, I regret the sneaking-in-as-students plan. Bloom thought, getting angry at all the eyes on her.
"Ooo, we get to dress like Bloomie?" Musa said, bouncing on her bottom. "I love it!"
"Fuc- You're a- And I- The answer is no! Besides, we're all different sizes. Even if we were the same size, I still don't wear witch clothes! Being goth doesn't make a person a witch," Bloom replied.
"Right, but you still have dark clothing that I can tailor to fit our different body proportions," Stella replied quickly.
"Stella we ain't got time to grab her tacky clothes, resize them, and sneak into the school where we'll be questioned about who we are!" Tecna countered. "As much as I love messing with Bloom, I have to break it to you, it ain't gonna work."
"Thank you for agreeing with me while insulting me at the same time," Bloom dryly said, although she was being sincere as well. "Also, that's rich coming from the girl wearing a tracksuit in the summer."
Tecna shrugged. "I make this look good," she said. "As I was saying the moment we enter, we're caught. My ma told me that a witch and fairy can smell each other out like police dog sniffin' for drugs."
"Yeah, there you go," Bloom said. "As for the smell thing, not really, when I was at Tainted Paradise a few weeks ago shopping for a dress, these witches were surprised I was a fairy, and keep your snide comments to yourself, Stella and Tecna!"
Stella snapped her finger comedically before plopping down on the couch giggling. "Seriously though, how are we going to catch them by surprise if we can't even get into the school?"
Bloom scratched her head. "I remember these tunnels under the school at that dance. Let's use them to get to Cloud Tower! Before lunch today we go there and get the ring."
"How are we going to get in there? They lock those doors whenever there's not a dance," Musa brought up, scratching her head.
"Musa, there's more than one way to get into those tunnels," Stella answered. She smiled before adding, "I don't know where all the tunnels lead…but I know of one that we can go through without getting caught. The tunnel I'm familiar with leads to the woods which is not too far away. After doing some research on the underground tunnels I made a map that should lead us straight to Cloud Tower."
"That's really smart Stel," Bloom said, high-fiving her friend. "We might have to fight them, but I know we got this, we're all pretty good fighters."
"Don't you have trouble-" Tecna started asking Bloom, but the goth stopped her.
"Trust me, seeing the Trix's faces when we're about to beat their asses will make me transform this time," she answered.
"Indeed," Stella confidently agreed. "It's a Saturday and I have nothing to do for the first time in a while, but I'm focused on getting my ring back no matter the cost." She looked at each of the girls and smirked. She was so ready to shove it to those witches.
...
While the girls prepared for their mission, the newly named Trix were busy looking over the ring. The white-haired girl paced around the room mulling over many dark thoughts in her head, namely, how they'd use the power they were going to claim.
"First, I'll kill those who wronged me!" Icy stated. "No that'd be too obvious," She then mumbled with a sigh.
"I feel like she's not including us in her evil plans and that scares me," Stormy said to Darcy as the girl with glasses examined the ring with arcane instruments of various kinds.
Darcy sniffled and then winced at the pain of her healing nose. Her nose had a thick nasal strip on it after she visited the nurse earlier that day. This was the best treatment they could give her, and she wasn't in the mood to be looking over jewelry as her nose slowly got better, but her sister wouldn't stop complaining if she said no.
"You just came to this realization?" Darcy replied. "We can hear you, Icy."
Icy blushed nervously before shouting, "Shut up! Just tell me what you found."
"You're going to be pissed, but" Darcy paused, rubbing a smudge off her glasses with a cloth. "After being forced to examine the ring, with a broken nose still healing, it doesn't have any form that's similar to the dragon flame. It's just a magical ring, similar to other rings. We can use it for the stupid scepter aspect, but that's it."
"Cool, can I see the ring?" Icy asked calmly, holding out her hand. Darcy passed it over to her, surprised with how calm she was being, but before her and the tan girl's eyes Icy threw the ring on the ground and began stamping on it angrily while swearing. "Fuck! Damn it! All that time, fucking wasted!"
With that, she stormed into the bathroom while screaming and slammed the door.
"Yeah, we expected that," Stormy and Darcy said simultaneously.
...
Back at Alfea, once three o'clock arrived and lunch was starting, the Winx snuck away. Stella led them to one of the many hidden passages to the tunnels, makeshift map in hand, but after fifteen minutes of walking Bloom spoke up, "We've been taking turns forever, where is this magical door leading to the tunnels?"
"We're almost there, be patient, bleeding omega," Stella replied, annoyed. "This is a real secret spot that all the seniors blab about, and this is how they said to get there… they wouldn't lie about that… I hope."
"So glad you're confident about this," Bloom sarcastically replied.
"Shush," Stella said snipingly. "Just one last turn and… this is it!"
Stella and the group made the last turn at the end of this twist-and-turn trip and there it was. A large wooden door, by itself. There was no deadbolt, lock, and key, or even a sign that said keep out. It was just a single door. The girls were silent for a few seconds as they stared at the door, each with a varying level of emotion. Musa was enthralled, Stella was satisfied, Tecna was restrained, Flora was… relaxed and Bloom was nervous.
"A door deep in an empty hallway… this should be safe," she said, cutting the silence. She cautiously walked to the door and turned the knob, it was unlocked. "Cool, it's not locked either."
"Oh, just open the bleeding thing," Stella commanded.
Bloom sighed as she slowly opened the door; she was met with darkness which was to be expected as the door simply led to another tunnel. However, Bloom felt overwhelmed. They were actually doing this. They were going to break into Cloud Tower.
Bloom suddenly felt small. This was her idea, her plan to get the ring back but if it backfired, she could lose her friends let alone their lives. The girl pulled out her phone and turned on the flashlight, she was the first to walk through this unfamiliar tunnel.
"Okay, seems safe," she said but she was met with silence. She turned around to face the rest of the girls who were lingering near the doorway, they were reluctant to follow her. Bloom huffed and marched up to the Princess, grabbed her by the arm, and pulled her into the eerie tunnel. "We have a ring to get back!"
Stella whimpered, tightening her grip around the rolled-up map, as she was forced into the dark tunnel, only being lit by a tiny flashlight from her bestie's cellphone. The other girls followed suit, Tecna standing in front of Musa and Flora, and they made their way through the tunnels in silence, keeping their eyes open for any creatures that might jump at them.
There were no alarming sounds, the only sounds that could be heard were the shuffling of feet and the dripping of water pipes. The girls remained silent until they reached the exit that led outside the woods.
Stella breathed a sigh of relief. She hugged Bloom tightly. "I thought we were goners for a couple of moments back there."
"Mm-hm," Bloom said, letting out an aggravated cough.
"Shush, you were scared too," Stella jested, pulling away.
"That was very brave of us," Musa said, patting herself on the back with one hand and Tecna with the other.
The farm girl smiled, jostling her flatmate's hair.
"Yeah, well Stella, open the map. I hope it's accurate," Bloom said, wiping dust off her shirt sleeve.
"It is quite accurate," Stella replied, unfurling the rolled-up paper that had the directions of how to get to Cloud Tower once you exit the tunnel systems. "It's going to be a trek, but we should make it there in due time. Interesting fact, Cloud Tower has its own set of tunnels, probably filled with bodies."
"Less focus on ghost stories and more about directions," Bloom said, bringing Stella's attention back to the map. "Where do we start?"
"We walk along this trail and then take a left turn," Stella said, pointing towards a large patch of trees. She sighed with a disappointed look. "I shouldn't have worn my pumps."
"At least you're not wearing low-top sneakers," Bloom said, sharing the same look while adjusting her equally low-cut socks.
...
Back at Cloud Tower the Trix were preparing for a trek themselves.
"Do we really need to go out?" Darcy complained, adjusting the bandage on her nose. "We can go through the woods tomorrow. My nose still hurts."
Icy groaned. "You and that stupid nose!" she said, tossing the aggravated witch a jacket. "We need to clear our minds before we go back to searching for another artifact that holds the Dragon Flame, plus we've been inside all day. This room is pissing me off."
"Everything pisses you off," Stormy mumbled, adjusting her necklace.
"I heard that!" Icy hissed. She then turned to Knut who was busy sweeping and mumbling to himself.
"They make a mess and I have to clean it up," he complained. Right after saying that he felt a cold chill over his shoulder, he turned around to find a wide-eyed angry-looking Icy.
"Repeat that!" she snapped.
"I meant to say, I love cleaning up for you guys, it's fun," Knut replied, trying not to step on the witch's toes metaphorically.
"That's what I thought," Icy said, flicking the ogre on his ear, which made the poor beast twitch in pain. "Knut when you're finished cleaning, meet us in the woods!"
"Yes ma'am," Knut said cowering. "Just don't hit me again."
The witches exited the room leaving the ogre by himself. He kept sweeping for a few seconds then picked up some clothes laying on the floor and tossed them in the straw-woven hamper next to the bathroom. He looked around the room and then at his hands.
"What have I become, I'm their maid!" Knut exclaimed when he knew the witches were gone. "And I still have to vacuum. Dragon dammit I used to be a fearful beast and now I'm catering to spoiled witches. Who I hope doesn't hear me."
He paused waiting for a response but was met with silence. He sighed relieved. As he searched for the vacuum, the duck waddled over to him, quacking. Knut glared at it for a second, looked around and once he knew the Trix were gone he picked up the duck and patted it on the head.
"You're so cute!" he said, petting the duck gently to not squish it with his big hands. After so many weeks of abuse, the duck quacked happily. "How could she hate you so much? I always had a soft spot for creatures like you. I wouldn't even eat you."
"Quack, quack," the duck replied.
"Before I finish cleaning up, what if I give you a name?" Knut asked to which the duck happily quacked while flapping its tiny wings. "I knew you'd agree, what about Nukork, Trirut, Brekurk, Grozrog, Mazur?" Each name the duck stuck his tongue at with a disapproving look. "Those are the best ogre names! Hm…"
"Knut hurry the omega up!" Icy called from outside the door.
"Figures they hadn't left yet," Knut grumbled. He pondered a good name for the duck and then snapped his fingers. "I'll name you after my great grand-ogre, Pepe!"
The duck, newly named Pepe, flapped his wings eagerly and quacked eagerly to which Knut shushed him so as to not alert the witches. They already ridiculed him for not doing his job correctly, if they knew he had a soft spot for a duck, he'd never hear the end of it.
"Knew you'd like it," Knut whispered, placing the duck back on the floor.
Icy pulled open the door, looking at Knut with an annoyed expression. "I don't hear vacuuming and don't follow us."
"I have the gate ring at the ready," Knut replied with a nervous smile.
"Great," Icy replied uninterested, slamming the door behind her.
Knut sighed in relief once again and grabbed the vacuum to finish cleaning the mess they caused. Wasn't the first time, wouldn't be the last.
...
Twenty minutes later the group made their way through the tunnels after traversing through the woods. Bloom pulled a branch out of her hair after getting smacked by a large one while walking. Stella had removed her pumps halfway through the trek and the others were equally bruised sans Tecna. The farm girl seemed to be used to navigating through a forest.
"I seriously hope you get your staff back so we don't ever have to go through those woods again," Bloom said while using her flashlight to show the map so they wouldn't get lost. "Also, I feel like we're in the sewers over the tunnels to Cloud Tower."
"We better not be in the bloody sewers!" Stella exclaimed. "Or I really will be beating those witches with my Solarian staff!"
Tecna shushed the two girls as they kept walking before angrily whispering, "Keep your mouths shut, we might be heard."
Bloom angrily shushed her back. Although it wasn't to quiet her, just getting back at her. "We're in the tunnels, who's gonna hear us?" she turned her attention back to Stella who was focused on the map. Tecna grumbled silently towards the girl who paid her no mind. "You, okay?"
"Of course, away from the minor foot pain I couldn't be better, we're so close to getting my ring back," Stella replied, keeping her eyes focused on the map. "I still haven't felt anything bad happen to it."
"That's good," Bloom said, patting her on the back. "I have to ask, how are we going to find their room? We don't even know what floor they might be on in this weird school."
"Don't worry, love," Stella reassured. "Well according to a rumor, I heard last year, the way we're going leads directly to the floor the Trix are on."
"That's great and all, but your last great rumor led us through the forest where we got smacked with trees and I'm pretty sure I have a huge bug bite."
Tecna chuckled condescendingly. Bloom glanced at her and spotted the cocky grin on her face, but she wasn't about to ask why. Too bad the farm girl answered anyway, "It's not her fault, ya'll don't know your way around the woods. You two are such babies and don't understand a true forest. When you see a bear two feet away and have to fight off snake rats, then we'll talk."
"Wow, so interesting." Bloom rolled her eyes as Stella giggled. "Tell us more."
"Uh, yeah, we'd love to hear more!" Musa said, sounding interested. She wanted to maintain good energy as they made it through the ever-growing creepy tunnels. "What about those snake rats?"
"Don't get me started," Tecna said, turning away her glare from the two girls toward Musa.
"Would you look at that, we're getting closer," Stella said, shutting down any stories the farm girl had ready. "Just a little further. No conversation needed."
The girls soon approached the small set of footsteps leading to a large wooden door with a solid gold door handle. It was just as ominous as the door leading to the tunnels back at Alfea. Stella gulped nervously then carefully tiptoed up the steps and placed her hand on the door handle.
"Wait-" Bloom panicked, but Stella had already turned the knob and slowly opened the door, it pushed open outward. The Winx, sans Stella, backed away, but nothing seemed to happen, nothing bad at least. "Oh, thank God."
This feels weird but better than some hideous monster waiting for us, Bloom thought in her head.
The Winx stuck close to Stella as they followed her up the stairs and into the dimly lit hallways of Cloud Tower. They checked both ends of the hall and luckily no one was around. Everyone was probably away at lunch as well, thank goodness.
"Stella, we probably only have one shot at this, are you sure this is the floor?" Bloom asked the Princess.
"Would I ever be wrong about something this important?" Stella inquired with a sincere smile.
"Well-" Before Bloom could finish her sentence, Stella covered her mouth and shushed her. The bestie grumbled as the Princess checked around again to make sure the coast was clear.
"Don't make too many sounds," Stella said, removing her hand. "Come on, let's just find the room and get out of here."
The Winx made their way down the hall and made it past three doors before they came across one that stood out from the others. It was the Trix's room indeed, how could they tell? The witches decorated their door with separate signs of their names, and below it was a large black and red sign that read:
Unless you're one of the people who live in the dorm, don't think about entering this room or face our wrath!
"They would write that," Bloom snidely said. "Um, are you guys ready for this?"
"We done come this far," Tecna replied. "Unless you want to turn back again."
Bloom smirked before calmly opening the door. She walked in ready to fight but found that the room was almost empty sans a purple duck resting on what appeared to be Icy's bed.
"Well, that was anticlimactic," Bloom said somewhat disappointed. She was met with a strong foot funk odor but chose to ignore it because she had bigger issues on her mind.
"I think it was the right amount of climatic with a drip of anti," Musa disagreed in a friendly manner of course.
"Yeah, Musa's right," Tecna grinned, which made Bloom's skin crawl. She knew Tecna was reminding her that there was still beef between them.
"Well snide comments aside, what is that putrid odor?" cried Stella as she covered her nose. She pinched the bridge of her nose. "It smells like the barmy ogre they have around them all the bleeding time. Dragon, let's just find my ring and get out of here."
Stella closed the door to make sure no one spotted them; she looked around the room. The Trix's room was smaller than the dorms back at Alfea with only two floors taking up the room. There were three unmade beds and the one in the middle was the biggest and most elaborate looking.
"Yeah, that is definitely Icy's bed," Stella said, pointing to it with disgust. The resting purple duck helped prove it.
Not only did the room smell of ogre but it was cold, colder than all the tunnels they had traveled through. The girls parted ways and started searching all corners of the room. Stella shoved her feet back into her shoes.
"It's too dirty in here to be walking barefoot," she said out loud. "This place is so disgusting I don't understand how the girls are allowed to live like this. They're witches I know, but really?" she ranted while walking towards the dirty pile of dust in the corner next to Darcy's bed.
She recognized it by the picture the girl had of herself unsubtly placed on her nightstand. As she made contact with the witch's bed, she felt her body tense up. Staring at the witch who put her under a spell that caused her to lose her ring made her clench her fist in a fit of rage and ripped the covers and sheets off her bed and tossed pillows on the floor, she stomped on the pillows with her pumps as the other girls looked on in shock.
Stella grabbed the picture frame from the nightstand and was ready to smash it on the ground, but Bloom rushed over and took the frame from the Princess's hand before she made a sound loud enough for someone to hear them. The other girls looked on concerned.
"Stel, breathe, okay? Breathe," Bloom comforted. "We can't get caught and you're driving yourself insane. We're going to find the ring here, just breathe."
"Um, you're right," Stella whispered, catching her breath. "Silly me, I overreacted there. Excuse me… let's just look for my ring."
The girls went back to searching, turning the place upside down. Tecna ran up the stairs to investigate the top half of the room while Bloom studied the shelves that had everything, books, pots, rotten food, and dolls. Lots of creepy dolls. Flora and Musa started exploring the walk-in closet.
"Hey Bloomie look what I found," Musa cried as she came out of the closet holding a massive weapon that looked like a baseball bat but with spikes protruding from it.
Bloom spun around, "Did you find the- Oh…wait that's actually pretty cool," she grinned as she walked over to Musa to get a closer look at it. She grabbed the bat and looked it over with admiration and intrigue. "You know this reminds me of a show back on Earth about zombies who-" Bloom stared at Musa who was just as interested as she was in the weapon but stopped herself, "Like playing baseball."
"That sounds amazing!" Musa exclaimed Bloom patted her on the shoulder while placing the bat on Stormy's bed.
"Hey, look what I've found." Tecna called holding up a purple doll punctured with needles "Kind of creepy ain't it?"
"Just as creepy as this," Bloom said, holding up the bat.
While the others went back to searching, Flora allowed her eyes to wander around the room.
The walls were painted gray, the floor was a dirty cactus green, and the windows were stained-glass red. A shiver ran down her spine. Not only was this room ugly it was devoid of warmth and joy.
Flora cleared her throat speaking up after a long while of silence. "No offense to the Trix, but this place looks like a dump, don't they have any bins?"
Stella chuckled as she showed Flora the dirty corner that was left salvaged. "They don't need bins when their room's the school's dump yard."
Flora knelt down to have a closer look at the disgusting rubbish heap, but instead of being disgusted she spotted a small glimmer hitting her eyes, "Hey Stella isn't that your ring?"
"My ring?" she shouted. Flora pointed to the shiny object on top of the dirty pile. Stella shoved the girl out of her way and without a second thought reached into the heap of dirt and before her eyes was the coveted ring of Solaria. She immediately placed it on her finger to see if it was tampered with and was pleased to see it still fit and everything. "My ring!" she cried happily while trying to remain quiet.
Stella took the ring off and turned her ring into a scepter and then back into a ring. She spun the staff around her head and placed it firmly on the ground with a satisfied smile. She let out a happy sigh before adding, "Ah, thank goodness it still works. It's good to have you back."
Stella thanked Flora by giving her a quick hug.
"Yes, now let's scurry out of here befo'e we get caught," Tecna interjected as she ran down the stairs. "We might get turned into toads."
"Yeah, let's get out of here," Bloom agreed fretfully.
Bloom opened the door preparing to leave, but then quickly closed it, her face nervously flushed, "We're not going anywhere."
"People outside?" Tecna asked rhetorically.
Bloom nodded.
"A lot?"
Bloom nodded again.
"Well, thanks, Bloom, a dead end," Tecna said, shifting the blame to the artist. "Now the Trix will find us and beat us or turn us in."
"Or both," Bloom added, brushing some stray hairs from her face. "Also, shit on me later we gotta find a way out of here."
Bloom looked around the room, searching for a door to find a way out before the Trix arrived, and entering the halls wasn't the best option. The others stood by unsure of what to do next. She nibbled her hangnail but after a second spotted a red blood-colored door, she blinked unsure of how to react, but then casually walked to the door.
"Bloom?" Stella called.
"We have to go this way, it's another way out," Bloom responded.
Tecna groaned. "This is not the time to listen to your sixth sense, we've gotta get outta here!"
"Maybe we should check again they might be gone," Musa suggested, checking Tecna's watch. "Although lunch is about to end in a minute."
It's where you want to go. The voice in Bloom's head said and without a second of hesitation, she opened the door and walked inside. Musa followed after her then Stella, Flora, and lastly Tecna.
...
The girls walked through a new set of tunnels in silence as Bloom seemed to be leading them on the path out, she remained silent the entire time.
"I can't believe those witches have a door leading into the tunnels, that is stranger than a fish walkin' on a leash," Tecna pointed out after the long amount of silence.
"It was rumored a lot of rooms in both schools have secret doors leading to the tunnels, but they're supposed to be locked as well," Stella said. "I have no idea why there's was unlocked."
"Yes, very peculiar," Musa agreed, rubbing her chin.
Stella walked closer to Bloom and patted her on the back, "Got any quips you'd like to add?"
"Must focus," Bloom replied mindlessly. She kept walking until she saw a black door labeled, 'Archives Room' to her left. Bloom shook her head, snapping out of her trance-like state once she saw the sight in front of her. It felt like the answer to all the questions she had so far. This might be exactly what she's looking for.
"I just want to stop here for a sec," Bloom said, opening that door. "It's their book chamber, it might have the only other book that exists about the Great Dragon."
"That's grand and all, but we gotta go," Tecna said, pointing down the narrow path that led to the end of this maze of tunnels. "We ain't got time for your curiosity."
"We can sacrifice three minutes to find a book about the Great Dragon!" Bloom snapped, but then pulled back once she saw the girl was shocked at her reaction. "Sorry, um, just a few minutes?"
"Fine," Tecna relented with the others nodding in agreement.
Bloom entered the room, the others following behind her, and they all looked around in awe of what was before them: The Cloud Tower Archives Room. Unlike the gloomy halls of the school, the Archive room was well-lit and packed to the brim with books and scrolls. There were occupying bookcases, stacked on top of each other on floors, empty desks, or showcased atop a book podium. The books looked like they were brand new, and the room gave off a warm wood-furnished smell. It felt so weirdly welcoming.
Whoever created this library wanted something nice in this decrepit old school. The strangest thing was there wasn't a soul in the room, you could hear a pin drop from the silence.
"Wow," the Winx girls said, breaking the silence.
"This is their archives… who knows what's in these books!" Bloom took a book from the shelf without thinking and flipped through its pages. "I- We should look through these to see if we can find out more about the g- the ring. We got time!"
"Um, she's right," Stella agreed reluctantly. "I doubt anyone has even known we've left."
She had to stick up for her bestie while the others seemed to be looking at the curious girl who was mindlessly looking through books.
"Yeah, and look at all the wonderful books," Musa said, cradling a thick novel in her hand. "So many to read!"
Flora silently nodded. Tecna's shoulders slumped, and she silently began looking around in regret. She had an inkling something bad was about to happen, but she didn't have much say in the matter.
...
As the girls scoured the library, Bloom searching for anything about the Great Dragon, Griffin was in her office finishing up lunch while looking through papers on her desk.
Unlike Faragonda's office, Griffin's was eerie and strange, filled with skulls and other possible human bones, large bookshelves were behind her unlike her sweeter counterpart who had a giant window behind her, but to the side of the room. The curtains were closed as the woman hated sunlight shining through her office that was lit only by the desk lights in her room, six in total in different spots. She was able to change the color and turn them off with a switch on her desk.
Her desk was a simple large mahogany wooden desk. Her desk chair was a large leather chair and the occupying desk chairs in front of the desk were three leather stools, no comfortable seating around here.
"Hm, so that's what happened to my car. Well I should be angry, but I'm rather impressed how they got the eggs on my seats when the door was locke–" Just as she was focusing on her apparently egged car, a large dome-shaped object started blinking red rapidly. It was Griffin's crystal ball alerting her.
"Hm, well would you look at that," Griffin said, dark smoke emitting around her body as she smirked. "We have a few intruders in the archives room."
She waved over the crystal ball to get a closer look at the intruders, the Winx, and zoomed in on Bloom who was flipping through a book while mumbling to herself.
"I know a fairy when I see one," Griffin said, tapping her finger on her desk. "Well, this just won't do, but if they want to pay us a visit let's give them a warm welcome!"
Griffin cackled before taking a bite of her muffin and then quickly spit it out in disgust. "I told that deli I wanted blueberries, not bananas!"
...
Back in the archives, the Winx girls went through the vast array of books and intriguingly flipped through them, finding new information and interesting secrets.
"This one's about a fairy named Eleanor De La Rochefeu, she helped defeat a swamp creature that was destroying a kingdom," Musa said, speed-reading the book. "Oo and this is about a witch by the name of Adaglide."
"She was a Queen of the Agamendom Kingdom and seemed to be very beloved," Tecna read. "A witch who was beloved? Ain't ever heard of that befo'e."
"Oh Dragon, I love learning about stuff like this!" Musa eagerly said with Tecna agreeing with her.
Stella flipped through a small book with an intrigued look on her face, "This is quite interesting, the history of every witch and fairy that ever existed, all in here."
"Yeah, well, we've searched through many books, how about we high tail it outta here," Tecna advised, checking her watch. "Bloom, you done yet?"
"There's got to be something in here about the dragon or what my powers are," Bloom muttered under her breath, scouring for another book on the large bookshelf before her. "There's got to be something here. Anything."
The other girls looked at her as she walked around the library looking for any book that could answer her questions.
"We should probably head out," Tecna advised.
"I have to know where my powers come from, I don't even know why I'm a magical being. My whole story could be in one of these books! Please, just one more minute," Bloom begged.
Tecna checked her watch warily. "I'm givin' yo' two."
Bloom nodded while walking around the room one more time looking through the shelves for anything about the Great Dragon or fire powers. She wasn't sure what to pull out, were the books organized alphabetically or by powers? The former wasn't going to help her out much and if it was arranged by magical abilities, she couldn't find a single book about a dragon or fire.
She let out an exhausted sigh as she stopped by a podium. Rubbing her forehead, she looked down at the book on it and she could swear it was sparkling like Stella. She checked over her shoulders, she hadn't noticed the book until now. She reached towards it carefully preparing to open it. Before she could see if it held the truth, the book began to glow brighter and vines manifested from it, wrapping around the bewildered girl's arm.
"Shit!" Bloom screamed as the vines tightened their grip around her arm. Tecna ran over and helped pull the girl away and break away from the quickly tightening vines. Both girls ran towards the group, and they backed away nervously as cackling came from the book and it split open as the pages began to flip through it at a swift pace.
"Fairies, you have made a dreadful mistake trespassing on Cloud Tower grounds, entering our archives, and placing your filthy hands on our books, prepare for the worst!"
"That was Griffin, we need to start running," Stella said quickly. "Now!"
The girls attempted to race out of the room, but the door slammed shut and then vanished before their eyes.
"Nice try," Griffin teased, continuing to cackle. Her next sentence had a raspy, demonic tone to it that sent a shiver down the girl's spine. "Don't worry the fun's just about to start."
Tecna patted the wall that once had an opening at it. Yup, it was gone, and they were stuck there.
"I don't want to sound like no pessimist, but we are fucked," Tecna said as books began flying off the shelves and the lights flickered on and off.
"Took the words right out of my mouth," Bloom agreed. "So, what's the plan headmistress witch, you scare the shit out of us, and then what?"
"Oh please, this is fun, don't you fairies like having fun?" Griffin questioned. "You like fun, you like messing with us and annoying us and ruining our days, so I'll ruin yours!"
The room began shaking, the girls stumbled, some falling over and hiding under tables. Stella yanked Bloom to her side and angrily whispered, "Maybe don't piss off a powerful witch right now, hm?"
Bloom shrugged, but inside she was scared. She felt at fault since she was the one who practically ushered the group into the archive room, to begin with, and now an upset headmistress was wrecking hell in the room and didn't show signs of stopping. Heaven knows what she had planned next.
"We have to get out of here!" Tecna exclaimed, holding up her hands as electricity started to form around them. "Thunder Missiles!"
Tecna shot a green beam at the wall, but it had no effect. Only smoke came from the blast, but there was no hole for them to escape. Tecna shook nervously as she checked around the room for another way out.
"Not even a scratch," Musa said mystified. She looked over at Tecna who seemed to be sweating.
"Well, if one energy blast didn't work, how about five?" Flora piped up, cracking her knuckles. "I've been holding in enough energy, you girls?"
"It'll require us to transform," Stella said, eyeing Bloom. "You think you can do it?"
Bloom felt the fire in her chest had returned as she felt a strong emotion coming on, not of rage anymore, but of courage. She was ready to transform again. She smiled as she looked at her hands and saw the bright red glow return. She looked over at the other girls who shared the same bright glow, and, in a flash, they emerged from the light fully transformed in their fairy forms.
Stella's sparkly orange one-shoulder crop top, matching short shorts, and knee-high boots.
Flora's sparkling fuchsia and orchid one-piece off-the-shoulder mini dress with a pair of shorts underneath, matching fingerless gloves, a green choker adorned around her neck, and ankle boots.
Musa's sparkling red top with a translucent pink belt, a matching mini skirt and shorts, and knee-high wedge boots. Her pair of purple headphones rested atop her head and purple ribbons were wound around her forearms.
Tecna's distinctive sparkling lavender full-body suit with powder blue sleeves, a thick purple whip wrapped around her waist, helmet, and matching ankle boots.
And lastly, Bloom's sparkly light blue heart-shaped cropped halter top and mini skirt and shorts, fingerless gloves, and ankle boots. All their different colored wings fluttered eagerly. She could feel strong energy emitting from her body like she could take on the world.
"Power convergence on three!" Stella commanded by holding up her hands as bright light energy formed around her hands.
"On three!" Bloom said, feeling hot energy around her hands and praying in her head for this would work. She never used a power convergence before, but it was the best time to see if it worked. "One… two… three!"
The girls screamed the same spell name, and it shot out a powerful enough blast that broke open the wall and gave them an entrance. They raced for their lives down the dark and empty hallway, but it seemed to be going nowhere. They even passed by the archives room a few times; thanks to Griffin the place had become a maze.
They all stopped to catch their breath.
"There doesn't seem to be a way out of this place!" Flora huffed. "It feels like we've been going in, like, circles. Is this route even on the map?"
"It's like we're in a maze!" Bloom said, breathing heavily. "She does all this for breaking into a library?!"
"That's Griffin, she's great at messing with those who piss her off," Stella replied, checking over her shoulder. "We're lost! We're bleeding lost!"
"At least we're out of that hellscape," Bloom said, trying to look at the positives. "What's worse that can happe- damn it why did I say that?"
Right when she said that the girls heard hissing and small clattering footsteps. The girls groaned as creatures came from the shadows.
"ARE THOSE GIANT SPIDERS!" Bloom shouted terrified.
"Actually, they're red catapose!" Musa corrected. "They're giant spiders with strong venom that can kill a person within twenty-four hours, and they almost killed the entire royal family centuries ago."
Bloom glared at the girl. "You couldn't have just said 'Yeah, they're giant spiders' and moved on?"
"I felt it needed explaining!" Musa exclaimed with a nervous smile. She fearfully climbed on top of Tecna's shoulders as the spiders quickly approached the girls. "Sorry Techy."
"No problem I understand," Tecna said, grabbing hold of the girl's legs, and tightening her grip.
"Great, we might die," Bloom lamented, taking a few steps from the catapose. "This Griffin nut job is going too far now!"
"Funny thing, cataposes reside in these tunnels frequently and-" Stella explained, but once she was met with an intense glare from the ever-raging fire fairy she bit her bottom lip.
Bloom began to seethe as she felt her hands become hot and her heart started pumping faster and faster. She clenched her jaw while the spiders descended from the ceiling and left from the side of the walls. She shifted her eyes, resisting the urge to scream.
"That is enough!" she shouted, holding up her hands. She eyed a few of the spiders approaching and with all her strength yelled out, "Flame sphere!"
To her surprise, and the other Winx, fireballs began releasing from her hands onto the spiders destroying them into pieces. She aimed more fireballs while continually yelling, "Flame sphere!" She wasn't sure where she came up with the name, but it sure did pack a powerful amount of fireballs that seemed to be destroying the creatures before her eyes.
After shooting one last flame sphere, Bloom dropped to her knees, breathing heavily. "I think… I can taste the blood in my lungs."
"That was really ace and all, but…" Stella paused and pointed to the dead catapose. They started to regenerate in front of the girls as if nothing had happened.
Bloom was ready to curse in anger but was too busy catching her breath.
Musa hopped off Tecna's shoulders and stepped in front of the exhausted fairy and held up her hands while shouting "Manifest shield!"
With those words, a magenta dome shield formed around the group preventing the catapose from reaching the girls and biting them. Musa kept her arms up as she was keeping the spell up. More and more cataposes came from the shadows and soon the hallway was filled with them.
"Yeah, I love helping friends, but I can only keep this shield up for so long," Musa frantically said, keeping her nervous smile. "So, if someone could come up with a bug-killing option that'd be fantastic."
"As much as I love friendly creatures, I think I can take care of them," Flora spoke up. "Musa lower your shield and girls, fly up quickly."
Musa looked at the nature fairy warily, but after a second of worry she made her dome shield vanish and the girls flew up with Flora, she reached into a pouch on the side of her hip and sprinkled it over the bugs while calmly saying, "Erapnus Sparthus Sirisus."
A creature that looked like a giant ant-eater, manifested from the catapose. It began to snack on the other creatures like candy or ants like the ones back on earth.
"This is by far the strangest shit I've seen," Bloom remarked, unsure of what else to say about what she was witnessing right now. "How did you learn this?"
"Professor Palladium's lessons came in handy especially for getting rid of giant creepy crawlers," Flora answered.
"Yeah, but where did it come from?" Bloom questioned. "Is it real or a manifestation of your mind? If it's the latter, will the spiders just fall out, and… Why do I feel like this all amounts to 'It's magic, don't question it'?"
"Short answer: It's kinda real and kinda isn't, and yes don't question it," Flora replied. "You've got to pay more attention in class, Bloomie."
"Oh, after this I'm paying attention to everything!" Bloom said, keeping her flight above the ant-eater monster. "Ant-eating monster… that's one for the books."
Although everything seemed to have ended well, she felt something was off while the spider eater finished eating catapose and then disappeared into ashes. The girls returned to the ground, surveying the area for any more spiders.
"Something tells me we're not out of the woods yet," Bloom skeptically said.
"I agree with her for once," Tecna said, suspicious.
"Hey, let's not sell ourselves short," Stella said confidently. "We simply dealt with the problem efficiently!"
Musa cleared her throat as she pointed at a slowly and horrifyingly forming creature from the remains of the ashes that once were the giant ant-eater. The chipper girls frantically turned her towards the horrifying monster that was once a mix of ant-eater and catapose.
It was a red amalgamation of grotesque mouths with razor-sharp teeth and wide-opened eyes. Its claw-like arms swatted through the air ready to lash whatever was in sight.
Bloom let out a defeated sigh. "I regret life right now," she mumbled, grabbing Stella's arm. The Princess had frozen in shock and seemed unable to move.
The other girls flew through the maze as the monster chased after them, but soon approached another sealed door. Their shoulders slumped in defeat.
"What should we do now?" Stella quavered, hiding behind Bloom.
"We got no other choice, but to take it on!" Tecna said, readying her attack. Her arms were raised while bright pink electricity sparked from her hands. The other girls agreed with the same nod.
Facing the monsters, prepared to fight the girls all had bright lights of energy manifesting from their hands. The monster crept towards them ready to attack, but the Winx were ready to deliver a powerful blast.
"Strike!" Tecna shouted.
Everyone blasted the monster with all their might. They succeed in destroying it as it exploded before their eyes. Tecna quickly formed a shield before whatever remnants of the monster could hit her or the other Winx who hid behind her. Bloom looked with amazement at what they had done.
Stella pointed at the sealed door, ready to mention their next problem, but Tecna instantly charged and rammed into it forcing it open.
"Oh, well thank you Tecna," Stella said, wiping dust off her stomach.
"What in tarnation is this room now?!" Tecna cried. "We just keep enterin' random-ass rooms!"
"I've heard of rooms like this, but I never thought they really existed," Stella answered although the question was rhetorical. "Witches are very messy creatures! Instead of organizing their items, and cataloging their stuff, as they do their libraries, they just chuck everything away like this. Basically, a junk closet."
"I have a ba-" Musa was ready to say, but Bloom covered her mouth.
"We're not doing that again," she said.
Too late though as Musa yelped in fear, "A puncture beetle!"
God damn it! Bloom cursed in her head.
"Fret not, I have this under control!" Stella said, turning her ring into a staff. She felt pretty good being able to do that once again. "Sunburst!"
The blast was so powerful that while it did destroy the bug, it also set numerous papers on fire!
"Thanks, Stella," Tecna sarcastically said.
The girls grouped together as the fire began to spread, the air became constrained, and the door was blocked from the flames trapping them in the room and preventing them from breathing.
"What are we gonna do?!" Stella asked. "Bloom, can't you do something?"
"I'm still learning to use fire, but I'm not a fire bender yet," Bloom said, covering her mouth.
"Guys," Musa said, coughing and shaking. She began hyperventilating. Flora patted her back as the girls looked on at the approaching flames. First catapose and now fire, they were doomed.
Bloom swallowed hard, unsure of what to do next and noticing she wasn't having as much trouble breathing as the other girls, but she started to feel pain in her chest.
This is all my fault. They're all here because of me! If only I hadn't touched that stupid book, none of this would be happening! Thanks a lot, Bloom!
It's not your fault. A voice consoled her. I can help you.
Oh please, you're just a voice in my head, you can't do jack shit! Bloom criticized. I'm gonna die, I don't need comforting words!
Listen to me! The voice commanded which startled Bloom since it had been calm so far. Follow my voice, dear Bloom. Look in front of you, fan the flames and walk through them, do not fear it.
Bloom took a deep breath and began walking to a wall, the flames parting along the way.
"Bloom stop!" Tecna warned, but the girl didn't seem to be affected as the flame kept moving away from her legs.
"Are you walking through the flames?" Stella asked, flabbergasted.
She still didn't answer as she approached the wall and a round metal door appeared behind the burning tapestry that she removed calmly.
"Was this here the whole time?" Bloom whispered under her breath.
It's a secret passage. Come with me. Follow me. I... will lead you... to safety.
"…okay." Bloom unconsciously said, touching the door and opening it with ease.
"It's a way out?!" Stella questioned, but Bloom wasn't listening. "How did you do that?"
"Come on, let's get out of here," Bloom mumbled, focusing on walking out of the room as the voice coached her like a comforting friend. She left the room.
"What about-" Stella started until Musa grabbed her arm tightly and led her through the opening.
"We'll discuss this later, let's get the fluff outta here!" Musa said, rushing out of the room along with the other girls.
...
The girls walked in silence as they kept close to each other, making their way through the tunnel and looking over their shoulders. Bloom was a good distance away as she silently walked down the path, seeming to know where she was going.
"Okay, I might as well say it," Tecna said, cutting the silence. "How the omega did you do that?"
She motioned to Bloom, but the girl didn't answer as she kept walking. Stella pulled away from the group and went over to her. She placed her hand on the girl's shoulder while saying, "Hey, you can snap out of it, you got us out of there."
Bloom blinked, stopping her feet, and shaking her head in confusion. She seemed to return back to reality as the voice said, I'll let you lead the rest of the way.
"What the hell just happened?" Bloom asked, rubbing her forehead. "Why are we back in the tunnels?"
"You led us out," Stella reminded. "Remember darling?"
Bloom's eyes shifted as she blushed tensely. "Right." She pulled Stella to her side and whispered in her ear so the others wouldn't hear her, "I heard this voice in my head, it was telling me how to get to safety. It was a sweet, kind voice that spoke to me through the flames… am I going insane?"
She wasn't exactly sure at first why she was telling Stella of all people, but then remembered their conversation about secrets and she wasn't ready to tell the others, except for Stella. She hoped the girl could keep a secret.
"I'm not exactly sure, but whatever it was," Stella whispered, staring over at the girls. "It saved our life, and you saved our lives, but I'll keep it between us."
She then pulled away and said aloud, "That was some fantastic intuitive thinking." She hugged the girl tightly. "It got us out of a hot spot, that's for sure! Get it? Hot. Spot?"
Bloom groaned.
Musa chuckled softly.
Flora shook her head with a smile.
"Ha-ha, Stella, you're a riot, now can we get out of here, my dogs are barkin'," Tecna said, rubbing her feet.
"Hey, our plan worked out, didn't it?" Stella said, adjusting her ring. "The witches don't have my ring anymore! The Winx battled a shite ton of monsters and we're safe!"
She looped her arm around Bloom's and led her down the path, humming as her bestie stared at her annoyed for a second, and then smirking. Hey, this might've been a hell of an adventure, but at least they got to walk out safe.
...
By the time the Winx made it back to Alfea the sun had set much like their last few adventures and dinner was soon approaching. They groggily walked through the halls, detransformed making their way back to their dorms.
"I wish we could just teleport to the rooms, but I'm so knackered that I can barely stand," Stella said, resting her head on Bloom's shoulder. "I wish I had been more prepared to wade through the forest again."
Bloom groaned. "Nobody told me fairies could get that tired from fighting."
"On the bright side, we can hop into our beds and act like none of this happened," Musa reasoned until they made it to the door.
The Winx let out a collective groan once they found Griselda standing at their door, tapping her foot with an equally annoyed expression. Her cocked brow made Bloom want to scream.
"You just adore causing a ruckus, don't you?" Griselda questioned rhetorically, through clenched teeth. "Come along."
The girls dejectedly followed behind the woman to the one place they were hoping to avoid: Faragonda's office.
...
Faragonda's hands were folded together on her desk, a displeased look on her face as she stared at the guilty Winx in front of her. This was the first time the elderly woman looked upset at them, and it hurt, to say the least.
After a few seconds passed, mostly with the woman letting out a long sigh, she started talking, "You want to know what happened after lunch today?"
The girls remained silent.
"You don't have to answer, I'll do it for you," Faragonda said, sounding frustrated while rubbing the temple of her forehead. "After finishing lunch, I received a call from an old friend, Headmistress Griffin. You met her, and had some fun, right?"
Bloom gulped, unsure if the woman wanted her to answer. Before she could explain the situation Faragonda continued talking.
"Well, she called me and told me about all the fun you had retrieving a ring… was it an important ring?" she paused, a small smile on her face, but this one was strained like she was struggling to remain her jovial self. It reminded Bloom of her mom when she got upset at her but restrained herself from snapping. After a moment of silence, she waved her hand to the group to talk. "This is where you answer my question."
"Um we-" Bloom started, until Stella of all people jumped in.
"It was my fault!" she said taking the blame. "I lost my ring, some girls… found it and refused to return it so I begged my friends to infiltrate Cloud Tower and get it back."
"Then I led us into the archives room without thinking and that's when Griffin spotted us," Bloom added, not wanting her bestie to be in too much trouble.
"I wanted to help!" Musa added as well.
Flora nodded. "Me too."
"We're all to blame, not just Stella, not just Bloom, we all are!" Tecna finished.
Bloom smiled at Tecna joining in on taking fault for what transpired a few hours, she was happy all of them agreed to take the blame without saying anything to each other. It was like they all knew they had to stick up for each other. Even though they were about to be punished, it was worth it.
"Do you realize what damage you've caused?!" Griselda chided. "You set fire to one of their storage rooms!"
"Griselda, I got this," Faragonda said, holding up her hand.
That was the first time she called Jeanie by her last name; it even surprised the fuming deputy headmistress.
"I try to be a calm person, I try to give students chance after chance, but there's only so far I can go," Faragonda said, her smile disappearing and changing into a disappointed expression. She tapped her fingers on her desk while saying, "Griffin was furious, more furious than she usually is, and I have to agree. What were you thinking? Were you thinking? You think it's just okay to be engaging in vigilantism like this and causing thousands' of dimar in damage?"
Bloom opened her mouth, but Faragonda put up her hand to silence her.
"I don't care what explanation you have!" she sternly scolded. "You withheld information from us, snuck into another school through the restricted tunnels without even asking if it was okay, which it isn't and would've been met with swift denial, caused a ruckus that culminated in a fire that again caused thousands of dimar worth of damage and all because you couldn't tell us what was really going on?"
Faragonda glared at the girls. Bloom averted her eyes. Faragonda's glare was ten times worse than Griselda's. She felt like her grandmother was scolding her.
"Well, you know how Griffin is!" Stella said. "She would've sided with them or kept it or… please don't tell my father."
"Your father is the least you need to worry about," Faragonda said, continuing to tap her fingers on her desk.
"Took the words right out of my mouth," Griselda said with a smirk. She seemed to revel in their joint anger.
"We- we're sorry," Bloom mumbled.
"I wish sorry could fix the damage you caused," the elderly woman somberly said. "What you did was unacceptable!"
"Unthinkable! Intolerable! Just plain improper!" Griselda chastised with an extended vocabulary that was met with an aggravated glower from her boss. "Right, you're mad right now. Shutting up."
"Thank you," Faragonda cleared her throat. "We cannot tolerate this kind of behavior at Alfea which leads me to…"
Faragonda turned her attention to her cohort who was nodding with her arms crossed, but when she met eyes with the woman she jolted while shouting, "Oh you mean me!"
Faragonda went, "Mm-hm." Then covered her eyes with her hand.
"Seeing that these students went out without permission, and caused extensive damage I suggest they be grounded, and their magic powers revoked until you deem the adequate allotted time."
The girls gasped in shock. It got worse once they saw the Headmistress nod in agreement.
"You can't do this!" Bloom snapped.
Faragonda shrugged in response. "I'm sorry Bloom, you broke a serious rule, and I cannot allow that, remember what I told you? Your safety comes first, and you did something very dangerous that could've killed you! You have to be punished, it'll only be for a short time, and it doesn't even hurt."
"This is so fuc-" Bloom was ready to cuss, but was met with a joint glare from the headmistress' and a tight grip on the arm from Stella. She swallowed, rethinking her word choice. "This is freaking dumb!"
"You may think what you want, but rules are rules," Faragonda said. "This'll be quick and painless."
"Oh, this is going to be good!" Griselda said, pulling a chair from the front of the desk and plopping down. She quickly hopped up and opened up one of the elderly woman's magic desk drawers and pulled out five medium-sized bottles. "Okay, go now."
Faragonda sighed. "I hate having you in here when I do this."
"Can we have one last protest?" Musa begged.
"No," Faragonda replied, standing up and spreading her arms open as a large amount of green light energy formed from her fingers. Her lips parted as she shouted. "Powerus Revokurus Magicus Suspendus."
In a flash, the girls were zapped with the green energy and Faragonda's words echoed. Nothing happened at first, which relieved Bloom, but soon she felt herself floating.
She was ready to freak out, but the opposite happened. She started feeling… sleepy. Her eyes felt heavy. Looking around she saw the same happen to her flatmates. She was too weak to protest, everything felt good even if she was mad. Soon the girls fell fast asleep as her powers were stripped from their bodies. Faragonda was right, it was quick and painless, and their powers were removed and placed into the open vials atop her desk then sealed.
...
"Wait, stop!" Bloom shouted, waking up from her hour-long slumber. Her eyes shifted as she felt something soft underneath her. "I'm not in the office, am I?"
She sat up and looked around unsure of what just happened. She found herself in her dorm room. Kiko was sleeping soundly next to her, unaffected by her waking up. She scanned across the room and saw Flora on her own bed, sound asleep as well. One minute she was in Faragonda's office, then next she felt like her feet were floating and the next thing she was in bed.
She staggered to her feet, feeling groggy now. Whatever that spell was, drained her of any energy she had left. She went over to Flora's bed and nudged her shoulder to wake her up.
"Flora? Flora, wake up," she said.
Flora yawned, lifting her head from her pillow. "Whoa, what's with all the noise, a girl is trying to slee–" she paused, noticing she was in her bed. "Weren't we, like, in Faragonda's office, or was that a part of my dream?"
"The former," Bloom answered. "Glad to hear you talking again."
"Thanks," Flora said, getting out of bed without feeling as tired as her flatmate was. "Let's go check on the others."
"How are you- never mind," Bloom said following behind the girl. Once they entered the living area, the other girls were on the couch, sharing the same depressed expression, even Musa, who was resting her head on Tecna's shoulder.
"I'm guessing the power-revoking thing was real and not a dream either?" Bloom asked rhetorically.
"They even took my ring," Stella replied, holding a pillow to her chest. "Whenever fairies are power-revoked, it lasts for about a week or two… I've dealt with it before, I just…"
Stella tightened her grip around the pillow as she went quiet.
"You don't have to talk about it," Musa comforted, rubbing Stella's back, and now resting her head on the Princess's shoulder. "What matters is what we're going to do for the next week for fun."
"Yeah, it's not like we can go to classes," Tecna said, crossing her arms. "I feel worse than a child bein' caught with her hands in the cookie jar."
"Oh, we still have to go to classes, we'll just be forced to sit out," Stella corrected.
Bloom chuckled, sitting next to Stella. "Just like back on Earth." Once she noticed the girls giving her the same exasperated expression she shrugged with a small smile. "Come on, it's not that bad, this next week will fly by."
"Yo' just sayin' that because- " Tecna started, but then paused and waved her hand in defeat. "Eh, maybe yo's right. At least we're not in worse trouble."
"Got a plan on how we can get them back Bloomie?" Musa asked sincerely. She had an innocence in her eyes that Bloom regretted letting down.
She simply shrugged. "My plan is to get ready for dinner and a long amount of no powers and hoping nothing else happens that'll fuck us over."
"Agreed," Musa said eagerly. "Let's get ready for dinner!"
Tecna shook her head. "I'd rather not be around Headmistress Faragonda fo' a while."
"I'll just stay up here and order something," Stella mumbled. "They can deliver certain foods here, you know. I just never felt like dealing with those dingy delivery people."
"I'm with Stella," Bloom said. She wasn't in the mood to face Faragonda either after seeing the disappointment in her eyes.
Tecna chuckled with a jostling of her hair. "Eh, food makes everything better."
"We can have a flatmate dinner together!" Musa said, her jovial energy returning. "We can order cake and cookies and chips and strawberry dipped apples and-"
"Piz-za?" Stella suggested with a smile.
"If we're doing that, you better order a vegan pie as well," Flora reminded.
"Did Flora just talk?" Stella questioned, surprised.
"Yeah, I was shocked too," Bloom said laughing. "You haven't talked that much for like the whole day. What gives?"
Flora blushed. "Oh, me? I was just practicing silent meditation."
The girls waited for her to elaborate more on that explanation, but the formally silent girl just nodded silently. As if that explained everything.
"Yeah, that makes sense," the girls mutually decided aloud.
...
Later after ordering two large pizzas, one regular meat lover and one a vegan cheese pizza, the girls kept to themselves while eating their pizzas, except for Bloom who walked over to Stella's room, pizza plate in hand, and knocked on her door. She had a surprise.
"It's unlocked," Stella said, fluffing a pillow on her bed.
"You probably want to answer the door yourself," Bloom called from the other side.
Stella cocked her head perplexed, but walked over to the door and opened it, and found Bloom standing before her wearing a special piece of jewelry around her neck. It was the silver heart plate with a hot pink leather band lovingly around her bestie's neck. Stella could barely contain herself.
Bloom smiled. "Mind if I join you?"
"Of course!" Stella eagerly said, inviting the girl in. "You're the best right now, you know that?"
"You don't have to state the obvious," Bloom replied with a smirk. "Now, tell me more about that book of yours."
"Book?" the Princess tilted her head but quickly gasped once she saw the book on her bed. "Jack's Adventures! Yes. Take a seat and I'll tell you what I've gotten to so far… or maybe the whole thing, this is my fifth time reading it, and… I'm really happy right now."
"Breathe," Bloom said, sitting on her bed and taking a bite from her pizza. "Also, I had to listen to Tecna laugh at me for a few seconds, so you owe me."
"This riveting and dangerous tale of Jack Lordeberry will make up for it!" Stella said confidently. She plopped down next to her and pulled the book close to her chest.
Although she wasn't saying it, the Princess perked up having someone to talk to about this book or anything it seemed like, and Bloom felt the same way as she enjoyed her pizza.
"Lay it on me, Princess," Bloom replied with a nudge to the girl's shoulder. The girls laughed and spent most of the night talking about the book and Earth culture and just random stuff. It didn't matter what it was, they could talk all night and everything bad that happened today was overshadowed by their conversation and growing friendship.

A/N:
End
I really enjoy writing this story. Writing stories can be difficult for me, but I enjoy working on this as my first fanfiction (after many failures in the past lol). Exploring the world of the winx club again is a lot of fun and I enjoy it. Learning about stuff I didn't remember was in the show, expanding on the characters, and just adding my own spin to things is something I've always wanted to do and I'm glad I could do that with Winx Club.
Oh, and I wanted to add I didn't rewrite the characters and such like I did because I hated them in the show. I love the show even to this day, this is just my little twist and flip of them. Bloom is my favorite so far though lol. All right, enough about that I will see you guys next week for the grounded episode. I love writing these especially with my vast knowledge of tropes, live action shows and cartoons similar to winx club, take that sheltered childhood! :)
See ya guys.
