Prompt: "Is this one of those times when you want me to lie to protect your delicate emotions?"
"Prudence!"
Pru Beck sighed at Nate Ford's yell. After Sophie had brought a new client, one Teresa Palermo and her family, and the case they were making against Nicky Moscone and the mob, she and Nate had both been attempting to get Pru on their sides. So far, she had been able to avoid the both of them, but now she was being summoned into the tech room, since the team was now gathering there for the briefing.
Sophie was talking as Pru entered the room. "They have nowhere else to turn."
"Yeah, well, you know, he husband should have thought of that before he got into bed with Nicky Moscone. It's mob stuff. Not the kind of case we take."
"I disagree."
"Well, if you disagree and you feel strongly about it, why don't you write her a check?"
Pru sighed and shook her head as Sophie replied to Nate and then everyone began to talk over each other. That was until Alec spoke up. "Just take the mob out of it."
Nate looked confused at that. 'What? Take the mob out of it?"
"Hear me out. Isn't this just a breach of contract?"
Eliot piped up now. "These guys had a deal, right? And you boy, Ray, he lived up to his end, but Moscone didn't. and for that, there's not a court of law in this world this lady can go to."
Parker seemed to be on board as well. "Which is exactly the kind of case we take."
Nate still didn't seem to be on board, though Pru could see that he was starting to come around. "Oh, come on. I don't. Well, why Teresa?"
Sophie sighed. "I don't know. Well, her man's gone to jail for fifteen years, and she's waiting for him. For fifteen years. Do you have any idea how hard it is, to wait for someone?"
Pru covered her smirk as Nate sighed and looked resigned. "Yeah, okay. Let's go rob Nicky Moscone, a guy who kills people and lives in our city. Yeah, let's do that."
Sophie grabbed Pru's arm as the rest of the team left the room. "Pru, do you think that I came on too strong with this?"
Pru sighed. "Is this one of those times when you want me to lie to protect your delicate emotions?"
Sophie raised her eyebrow and removed her hand. "I'll take that as a yes."
Pru looked the grifter in the eye. "Just focus on the job, Soph. Come on, let's go start figuring out what we need to do."
