A/N: And here we are, the long-awaited sequel! Hope you guys enjoy!
Chapter 1: Friends, Go! Legends, Go!
The sun slowly rose over the quiet Pallet Town. Lillie yawned wide, stretching as she got out of bed. Snowy, sensing her trainer was awake, opened a sleepy eye curiously.
"Vul?"
Lillie smiled, and gently rubbed her head, making the Vulpix smile.
"Good morning, Snowy."
Smelling food being cooked, Lillie entered the kitchen to find Delila making a big breakfast.
"Good morning, Miss Ketchum."
"Lillie dear, I've told you to just call me Delila. As far as I'm concerned, your family."
"Sorry Miss- I mean, Delila."
Delila giggled before flipping the flapjack over in its pan.
"Speaking of Ash, where is he?"
"Oh, probably still asleep. Could you go wake him, please? Professor Oak wanted me to give him a message."
"Sure thing."
Lillie crept into her boyfriend's room, finding him sound asleep with Pikachu stretched out across his stomach. Smiling, Lillie gently shook him.
"Ash, come on, its time to wake up."
Ash didn't stir, just simply turned over while mumbling in his sleep.
"Come on Ash, you can't spend the whole day in bed!"
"Mmm, I don't wanna."
Lillie sighed, annoyed. But then, she got an idea.
"Oh well. I was hoping to share this stack of Pancakes with you, but-"
This got Ash's attention, and both he and Pikachu bolted awake.
"Ah man, I haven't missed breakfast, have I?"
"Not yet, but you will if you don't get in the kitchen!"
"Come on Pikachu, race you to the kitchen!"
"Pika!"
With that, the two of them ran out of the room, leaving Lillie shaking her head.
"Boys."
Rejoining the family, she found Ash happily chomping awake at a tall stack, with Pikachu on the floor happily licking a ketchup bottle. Delila smiled and took a seat at the end of the table while Lillie took a seat next to Ash.
"By the way Ash, Professor Oak told me he wants to see you after Breakfast. Something about a new opportunity or something."
"Sounds cool! You want to come with me, Lillie?"
"Sure, I don't see why not."
"Awesome!"
"Ash! Don't talk with your mouthful!"
"Sorry."
Lillie and Delila just laughed. 16 years old, but he's still the same Ash.
After breakfast, Ash and Lillie got dressed and headed to the lab. There they found Professor Oak loading up his car with all kinds of equipment.
"Professor Oak? What's all this stuff for?"
The professor turned around, smiling when he saw Ash and Lillie.
"Ah, good morning you two! You see, a colleague of mine is opening a new research facility in Vermillion City today, and I thought you might like to come along. I know you'd never turn down a chance to learn more about Pokémon, and I thought Lillie would like a chance to see more of Kanto. Are you in?"
Ash and Lillie grinned broadly, and climbed in. A few minutes later, the trio was on the road, making small talk while they drove.
"Are you enjoying Kanto so far, Lillie?"
"It's a lot different than Alola, that's for sure. But it's a beautiful region."
"Glad to hear it."
"Hey Professor Oak, have you heard from Gary? After the Alola League, he kind of disappeared."
Professor Oak shook his head.
"No, the last I saw he was headed for Sinnoh. When I asked what for, he said it was top secret, but not too worry. The boy is 16, he knows how to handle himself."
Ash nodded in understanding, perplexed by Gary's secrecy. After an hour of driving, they reached Vermillion City, and Oak parked the car in front of the Pokémon Center.
"The buildings not too far from here. I need to take care of something real quick, so you two go on ahead. Go up the road, and you can't miss it."
"Got it. Come on Lillie!"
"Coming!"
Sure enough, the two of them found the site in less than a few minutes. It was a large, impressive building atop a hill, looming over the rest of the city. A large banner over the gate read "Cerise Laboratory Grand Opening."
"Hey, that's the place we read about on that poster!"
"Yeah, it is! Small world."
The two began climbing up the steps, only to be stopped by a Pokémon neither one of them had seen before. It was small and yellow, and resembled a Corgi.
"Woah, who's that Pokémon?"
"Yamp Yamper!"
"Yamper, I guess."
Despite the aggressiveness Yamper was showing, Ash was too excited to care and picked him up.
"He's so cute! Hey there little guy, where are you from?"
"Ash, I wouldn't do that If I were you! It might-"
Lillie's warning was cut short by a big bolt of electricity shooting out of Yamper's body, shocking Ash until he fell to the ground.
"…Do that."
"Yamper! What'd I say about doing that?"
Yamper immediately perked up, and ran to a red haired girl coming up the stairs behind them. The girl rolled her eyes, before she saw Ash and immediately rushed over to him.
"Oh my gosh, are you okay! I'm so sorry, Yamper can be real hostile towards strangers. He thought you were intruders, and well…"
Ash chuckled while she helped him up.
"It's okay, I shouldn't have picked him up like that. I'm Ash, and that's Lillie."
"My name's Chloe. My dad runs the laboratory."
"Wow, that must be really cool!"
"Its…whatever."
On getting a better look at Chloe, Lillie realized something.
"Wait a minute! You're that girl from a week ago. The one who was chasing that guy going after a Pidgeot."
"Ugh, don't remind me. Sorry about that, Goh's a nice guy once you get to know him, but when it comes to social interaction, he's hopeless. Guy would rather spend a day trying to catch a Pokémon than actually learning something to help him in life."
"Its cool. I know what it's like to get excited over a Pokémon."
Just then, they heard a commotion from down the hill. A large group of people were running towards the harbor.
"What's going on?"
"A powerful Pokemon was detected coming towards the harbor!"
This got Ash's attention, and he immediately set off after the crowd.
"Ash, wait! What about the opening?"
"I'll be right back! This I got to see!"
Lillie just shook her head, annoyed.
"Boys."
"Tell me about it."
Down at the waterfront, Goh checked his phone to make sure he was reading the news feed correct.
"According to this update, that Pokemon should be arriving right about…"
"Look!"
Glancing up from his phone, Goh could see a large shape shooting through the water. Grinning, Goh readied a Pokeball.
"Whoever you are, you're mine!"
At last, the unseen figure emerged, revealing it to be a Lugia. At once, the entire crowd drew out a Pokeball, ready for battle.
"Alright, let's do this!"
"With all of us working together, we can't lose!"
The Lugia remained unimpressed and using its giant wings creating a massive gust of wind that blew all of them away. Undeterred, Goh was just about to throw his Pokeball when…
"Woah, a Lugia! No wonder everyone was so excited."
Just then, a kid with a Pikachu on his shoulder came running onto the scene. Lugia, assuming he was just another trainer wanting to catch him, prepared to attack, but Ash held up his hands in surrender.
"Woah, woah, its cool! I'm not going to hurt you. I just…wow!"
Sensing that the boy's intentions were pure, Lugia smiled, bending down and scooping him up onto her back before taking off.
"Woah! Hang on tight buddy, we're in for a wild ride!"
"Pika!"
"Wait for me!"
Without even thinking, Goh ran off the pier and jumped, hoping to grab onto Lugia…
Only to fall short, the stranger just barely catching him in time and pulling him up onto their mode of transportation.
"Thanks."
"No problem. I'm Ash."
"Goh. So…"
Before their conversation could continue, Lugia dived underwater, nearly making the two scream out in terror. Their fear was soon overridden with awe at the magnificent underwater world around them, with Water type Pokémon swimming all around. Sensing their excitement, Lugia smiled. He'd be sure to give them a ride they'd never forget.
"And so, it is the mission of the Cerise Laboratory to provide a safe and healthy environment for the research of Pokemon to…"
Professor Cerise's speech was interrupted by a loud cry as Lugia swooped down, dropping Ash and Goh off before departing, much to everyone's shock.
"Thanks, Lugia!"
"Yeah, that was awesome!"
"Ash!"
"Goh!"
The two teens turned towards Chloe and Lillie, who were pushing their way through the crowd up to them.
"Are you two alright?"
"We're better than alright, we just had the ride of our lives!"
"Yeah! We went underwater, then into the sky, then…"
"Ahem."
Everyone turned to see Professor Cerise glaring down at them, making the two boys chuckle nervously.
"Um, sorry. Didn't mean to interrupt."
The Professor's frown turned to a smile as he laughed.
"Ah well, I guess that's a good stopping point. I now declare this Laboratory open!"
The crowd cheered, while Ash and Goh breathed a sigh of relief.
After the crowd had dispersed, Ash and Goh told Professor Cerise all about their adventure. They even showed him some of the pictures they had managed to take, which intrigued the Professor greatly.
"Remarkable! And all of this on the back of a Lugia, you say?"
"Yeah, it was awesome! I've ridden lots of Pokémon, but that was something else!"
"Yeah! And to think, I wanted to catch it."
"In a Pokeball? You know Lugia's a Legendary, right?"
"So? It's still a Pokémon!"
This gave Professor Cerise an idea.
"Say…how would you two like to do this full time? I could use two keen adventurers like you for field research. I'll even pay you."
Ash and Gohs' eyes went wide with excitement.
"Really? Getting paid to study Pokemon?"
"Really. I even have a spare bedroom you two can use!"
"We're in, aren't we buddy?"
"Pika!"
"Count me in! This will bring me one step closer to catching Mew!"
"Oh brother, here we go again…"
"I heard that!"
"You were supposed too!"
Professor Cerise then turned to Lillie.
"How about you? Care for a job?"
Lillie thought about it for a minute, then nodded.
"Of course! After all, where Ash goes, I go."
"That's my girl!"
"Oh by the way, Goh. Here's today's homework."
"Oh…great, thanks. Not like I'll need it."
"I heard that!"
"You were supposed too!"
Ash and Lillie laughed as the two chased each other around the lab. They could tell this was the start of a great new adventure.
A/N: Phew! First chapter down. I know this followed the original episode pretty much beat for beat. The first few chapters will be like that, just until the plot gets in motion. As for Ultra One Shots, I'll still update it, but only when I can think of a good story to do that can't fit in here. The main reason I did it was to set the characters up where they needed to be for when this story started, and to tie up lose ends from the previous story, both of which I feel have been accomplished, but that doesn't mean I don't want to do more with it. For now, its more of the Pokemon Chronicles to this story. Until next time, smell ya later!
