Nope, your eyes are not deceiving you, The New Dragon is back for another run.

So yeah, I know this was a very popular story in it's first run last year, but I wasn't very happy with how I went with the story, barely did any chances to the plotline that I think could've been changed due to the OC's presence or OC's decision to stop it if it doesn't have a big effect on the timeline. And yeah, Brom's death was one of the things that I did not change because I was stupid.

However, I'm going to give the story another shot after reading some others and being inspired by them, having the drive brought back.

This story was inspired by Alagaësia's New Dragon by Commentaholic - Alpha 02, Draumr Abr Wydra (Dreams of Fate) by Pyramus Savage-Fang, and Sleepysaurus Rex's Riftverse series in which his character becomes King Ghidorah in Alagaësia.

Big thanks to them for being an inspiration. If you haven't read their stories, seriously go check them out. They deserve the love and attention.

Now about this story. The OC's name is still Michael, he's going to find himself in Alagaësia as a dragon, will take the name of Ancalagon, and also be paired with Saphira because of course he will. I will say nothing else about the story because... that would spoil it.

Oh, and in terms of Michael/Ancalagon's dragon appearance, think of a smaller four-legged, black-scaled version of Smaug from the Hobbit movies.

Disclaimer: I do not own The Inheritance Cycle. I only own the OC Michael/Ancalagon.

The New Dragon

-Chapter 1-

"Oof!" I grunted as I got bumped to the side by a tall figure, almost dropping my copy of Eragon while my backpack containing copies of the other three books of the Inheritance Cycle series slipped off my shoulder to the ground. I yelled at the tall guy indignantly, "Hey, watch it!"

"Sorry Michael, I didn't see you there," Nick said as he picked up my backpack and handed it to me.

I rolled my eyes, I wasn't even that short! How could he not notice he was about to bump into me? "What, you had your eyes glued to naked pics of Megan Fox on your phone, again?" I asked him sarcastically, though he has done it once.

"Hey, nothing wrong with checking out one of the hottest babes ever!" Nick said defensively, making me roll my eyes. I swear, ever since the Bayverse Transformers movies came out, Nick's had one insane crush on Megan Fox... and the release of that movie, Jennifer's Body, did not help matters.

I mean, yeah Megan Fox is hot as hell, I'll admit that, but I wouldn't go and look at nude pics of her as often as Nick does. Only once and that would be it.

I'm only seventeen and a hot-blooded guy who liked the opposite sex, sue me.

Nick spoke again as I retrieved my heavy backpack from his grasp, "Man, Mike, what do you have in there? Bricks?"

"Nah, just the books of the Inheritance Cycle," I answered. He gave me a blank look. "The Eragon series," I said, as if explaining to a little child, which was the only way to get through to him when he had his daily "brain lapses".

"Oh right, I forgot. That was a cool movie!" Nick said, breaking into his classic 'I feel stupid' grin.

"NO!" I yelled, "THEY BUTCHERED IT! I'll tell you WHY it SUCKED! One: FEATHERS ON SAPHIRA! Two: THEY SKIPPED 2 MONTHS OF STORY PLOT! THREE: THEY…"

"Calm down Mike, you're making a scene." Nick said, raising his hands in a calming gesture. Sure enough, several groups of people had stopped to watch my rant. Now that I'd been stopped, they moved about their own business. Peter, Jaymes, and Anthony ("Stoker") walking up to Nick and I.

Peter was chuckling, "Man, Mikey, you really went crazy for a second there! Forgot how much of a hate boner you have for that movie." This was quite the remark, coming from the senior "most likely to get away with murder" and a close second in the category of "most likely to pull a prank on you". He was also very, very weird. Stoker nodded, his red-tinted, prescription sunglasses flashing in the midday sun.

Jaymes was a bit more understanding. "It's okay Michael, most of us just lose it now and then….TV IS GOODER THAN BOOKS!" he finished, yelling the last part. Did I mention that James and Peter were also neck-and-neck in the "who's crazier?" race.

"Shout louder, I don't think they heard you in Russia." Anthony remarked sarcastically to him, getting a playful shove from Jaymes.

Yeah, this was how it is with us. Me, Jaymes, Anthony, Peter and Nick. We were all seventeen years old and in our final year of high school, ready to take on the big scary world beyond.

My name is Michael Draven. I'm nothing special, your typical born American who's seventeen and trying to live his life through the hardships that come with it. You could look at me and just pass me off as any other normal guy my age. I had dark hair, hazel eyes, fair skin, stood at 5'7, the average good height for a guy my age. Now what is there to say about me? Nothing really.

In terms of personal history, I'm an orphan. My mother died last year due to Cancer, and my father... he was never there to begin with, abandoned my mother and I before I was even born. Didn't attempt contact or anything. When I asked my mom explained that they met in a bar, one thing led to another and they slept together, causing my mother to be pregnant. But she assured me that she did not regret getting pregnant because it gave her the most special thing in her life: me.

When my mother fell ill, I did all I could to provide for her. Trying to earn a living, to support us, but in the end... I couldn't stop time and she passed on holding my hand. It's been a year now, and the pain is still there. It will always be there. Without her, I felt so... lost in the months that passed, but I had my friends to support me as best as they could. But every now and then, as I struggled to maintain a life for myself, a place to live, job hunting and earning money, I sometimes wished she were still alive to help me, to offer advice.

She always did that for me when I was struggling.

I lived in New York City, in the apartment my mother I lived in before she passed. Now it was just me, struggling to pay rent which was due soon and I was already overdue on two payments. But I had promised to pay back... I just needed more time, but I know that I can't keep playing that game forever.

Life is such a bitch at times.

"So, you boys got any plans for today?" Nick asked as we started making our way to class. "I'm just going to chill at home."

"I'm going to the local library in the city, got some online studying to do." Peter replied with a sigh. He wanted to get into College, so he was taking online courses while he was still in school. It was so he could be accepted as soon as he finishes school and applies for college.

"I'm going to go home, cozy up in my bed and play Assassin's Creed." Jaymes said, causing us to roll our eyes in amusement. He was such a huge fan of Assassin's Creed, he bought every single game.

"Can't say I'll be doing the same, got to babysit my nephew this weekend." Anthony said with a huff. "I'm stuck with the Devil's child."

"Harsh." I commented with a wince.

Anthony shot me a look. "You'd call him the same if you saw what he was like as soon as he's out of his mother's view... little shit."

"What about you, Mikey? Got plans for today?" Peter asked after shaking his head at Anthony.

I sighed. "Got to try and pay off my rent which is due up soon... and somehow pay for last month."

"Dude, you've gotta let us help you out with that." Jaymes said, stopping us in the hallway. "You're only going to end up on the street with the way you keep going. We've offered to pitch in with what we've got."

"But it won't cover two months of payments, James." Nick countered. "Trying to maintain rent for an apartment, especially in Manhattan, is a challenge. You need a lot of money, and I don't think any of us are as rich as Bruce Wayne or something."

"And I wouldn't ask that of any of you." I said firmly. One thing I never did was ask my friends for money. The way I see it, it was my problem so I should handle it. I appreciate their support and offers to help, but I wouldn't ask that of them. "My problem, my job to handle it."

My friends shared looks before they sighed and reluctantly nodded in acceptance.

If only I was aware of how much life was about to change for me on this day...

The day soon came to an end. School was finished for the day, and I was now walking down a street in the direction of my apartment, currently reading Eragon. I have always been a big fan of the Inheritance Cycle series, so much that my mother got the entire series as a birthday present before she passed. I've read the four books over and over again as the story keeps you interested and going, wanting to know more.

I soon reached my apartment and frowned when I saw a truck, one of those types that you'd use to fill the back up with living objects, furniture and the like... and I recognized some of the stuff being loaded as mine!

"Hey! Hey!" I shouted as I ran over. "What's going on here? This is my stuff!"

"Got an eviction notice." The man said as he showed an eviction notice to me and handed it over. I read it and my eyes widened. "Landlord of the building gave us the key to go ahead and get started."

"Without speaking to me! I live there!" I exclaimed in anger.

"Lived." The man corrected. "Sorry, kid. Should've paid your rent."

I nearly crumpled the notice into a ball due to how angry I was feeling, but I held myself back and breathed in and out before storming away.

So that was it... I was homeless. I only had my backpack, which held my books, my iPad (Which I'm very thankful was not taken from me), and a picture of my mother which I always kept with me.

I sighed and took out my earphones, plugged them into my iPad, and then clicked on the audiobooks app and clicked on Eragon. Yeah, I had the books downloaded on my iPad as well, just in case I was unable to read the books themselves, I'd have them on my iPad to read.

I stuffed my hands into my pockets as the narrator spoke, lost in my thoughts as I tried to think of what to do now. I was homeless, only had what was on my back. I... I had nothing.

Suddenly, my iPod began acting weird. The voice of the narrator began speaking words that I knew, FOR A FACT, were not in the book. They sounded like blurred versions of words in the ancient language. I caught part of one word: Skulblaka, and then another: Moi.

And I didn't even see the oncoming car until it was too late.

Pain erupted in my side before I was sent through the air. Time seemed to slow down as everything around me blurred, becoming a muddle of colors, my entire body feeling as if on fire.

As everything started to go black for me, I swore I heard a voice.

Do you want a second chance at life?

I don't know if it was just my imagination or the madness of death, but I felt compelled to croak out a 'Yes' as best as I could with death claiming me.

Then you shall have it. Another world is in need of your help and aid. But, you will be reborn in a form more suited to fit that world. But be warned, if you fall prey to the dark desires that come with being reborn in the chosen form, the urge to conquer, to dominate, to shed the blood of your enemies and prey for sport, and the desire for power. If you fall to these... you will become something truly monstrous.

I don't know what the voice meant. For all I knew, it was just my imagination as death claimed me, the madness that would come, but my vision finally blackened and I passed on to the afterlife...

When I awoke, I felt sore everywhere and my eyes felt like they were being held down by boulders. Using my arms felt weird as I tried to get up. The ground beneath me did not feel like the sidewalk of the school but…different. While getting up, I noticed the shift of weight about my body. Did I get fat all of a sudden? Once I was on my feet, I immediately fell face first onto the grass…

Wait… grass? The blurs soon transformed in figures and shapes. Becoming clearer to show bushes, trees and grass all around me. I was… in a forest? Or rather, looking down, I caught on to how my location around the trees, grass, bushes and branches looked burned. It was like a circle or fire and the forest stretched on from every angle.

What the hell? Am I in the Amazon Jungle or something like that? And why does everything look… smaller?

I tried to get up from my feet but failed again. Confused by this, I took a look at my body to see what the problem was… and my blood turned cold.

I had scales…

W-what? What the hell?! By the structure I mistook my body to be one of a dog. But giving a closer inspection proved I indeed had a tail but the black as night scales seemed to be of a reptile or something close to it. I also had claws on my... feet? I had four legs that were not human by any means.

I turned around and sprinted behind to catch sight of black above my head. Then collided with a tree in the process.

Ow.

Despite hitting the tree going full force, the pain was not that bad. Especially when compared to the fire from before. Once the pain, both physical and masculine went away, I glanced to my left shoulder and that's when I noticed an even crazier thing.

I had wings…

They looked real. Hell, if I scooped closer to the sun, I could see tiny veins on 'em. I tried to extend them to get a closer look but failed. Like trying to raise a tool with telekinesis. I gave up soon after, realizing how futile my attempts were.

What's going on?! My ears…flapped? I heard water in the distance, but there was no water around me, just grass. Water? I could use it as a mirror… without thinking twice I bolted for my next destination, unfortunately I forgot that I still had no control over my movements and fell with my face hitting the grass. Again.

I spit dirt and other things out of my mouth, Catching a glimpse of sharp white teeth. What the fuck was I?

After trying many times, I was finally able to walk a few steps without falling to the ground. Even if the improvement was about holding whatever tree or branch I could find to stabilize my height.

This is so goddamn infuriating! Without thinking I suddenly let out a loud growl. I stopped as soon as I heard myself... growl? Did I seriously just growl? Ok, I have to find out what the hell is going on. I had to know what I was turned into.

I finally reached the river that cut the forest into two. A herd of deer was on the other side of the river drinking from it. Once we saw each other, they turned and ran away like a predator was chasing them.

I padded over the side, my tail slashing at whatever it found along the way. I braced myself with a deep breath and looked down. My… maw fell open.

What stared back at me... was a dragon. A black-scaled dragon, with huge teeth that looked like it could crush steel into scrap metal, powerful looking jaws, a pair of burning orange-yellow color eyes with a slit in the middle like a cat's.

I... I was a dragon?

I'm a goddamn dragon!

What the hell is going on?! I yelled, trying to do it out loud but all that came out was a roar that made birds fly away. Seriously, what the hell is going on?!

And that's it for the first chapter. I hope it was good for you all and catches your attention. I was thinking of different ways to go about this, like having an ancient being known as The Elder or something save Michael as he dies and offer him a second chance, making him a dragon and also warning him of the dangers with being a dragon, and maybe even have one of the Eldunari aid Michael in his journey.

But I decided not to. I did somewhat go with the first idea, have a mysterious voice talking to Michael as he died and give him the offer, and even warning him of the dangers with being what he is to become.

Either way, I hope the story interests you all. Leave a review to let me know what you think.
