The beginning of one's life is among the most monumental achievements that humans can obtain. As such, for all those lucky enough to meet the opportunity of life, the achievement is signified by the joys of those around them.
However, that is only an ideal.
As youthful cries filled the room, relieved yet ecstatic voices should have followed. Yet, it seemed that only the wails of the infant made sound. The room appeared nothing like a hospital building. It was dark and cold, and the four walls were thick concrete. A brown-haired woman with white eyes, white as opals, dressed in nothing but a hospital gown, lay on the floor, while the man with obsidian-colored hair and chestnut eyes, assisted her while he knelt on his white lab coat. Their eyes were jovial, however their expressions also contained dread. The man deftly and carefully lifted the baby, wailing and squirming, and transferred it into the woman's arms, who cooed and embraced the newborn against her skin, promptly lulling it into a calm sleep.
"Congratulations," a new voice said. "Now, you know what comes next."
"Shinyu…" The woman muttered with obvious concern in her tone.
The doctor, now named as Shinyu, looked back at her with a reassuring smile. However, no smile could hide the fear he had in his eyes. "It's okay, Yumie. Don't worry."
Shinyu approached the source of the voice. It was a lean yet muscular man who wore the finest threads; a black, buttoned suit with a red tie. He came straight out of a movie scene, appearing as an agent, or a hitman. They walked out of the room as Shinyu closed the door behind him.
"Couldn't you give us at least a few minutes together?" Shinyu pleaded. "I just delivered my son."
"You know what we agreed on. Hand him over and we'll never track you and her down again."
The doctor sighed, tears forming in his eyes. "...Fine."
The agent smirked while Shinyu turned to open the door back to his wife and newborn son. However, just as he passed the doorframe, he suddenly disappeared from view before a black loafer collided with his jaw.
"SHINYU..!" Screamed a voice from the inside.
The doctor was now seen with his hands on the floor in an awkward position, with his lower body bending upwards and his left leg extended at the agent's face. He placed himself back on his own two feet with the agent's back against the wall, disoriented from the sudden assault.
"Damn it, they tricked me…!"
He made the gesture of a finger gun towards the dark room and a yellow orb of energy increased in size hovering just in front of his fingertips. Before he could fire, the doctor re-emerged from the room to send another flying kick, drawing blood and knocking the agent out cold. The doctor exhaled in relief as he readjusted his collar.
"Agent 27?... Agent 27…! Respond immediately!" called a voice from the unconscious man while Shinyu cursed from under his breath.
"That bastard," Shinyu responded when he saw the earpiece fall out of the man's sleeve. "Both of us violated the agreement, then."
Shinyu rushed back into the room, coming to kneel next to his wife, Yumie, and their new child.
"Can you stand?"
"I can't… I'm sorry… take him and run."
"...No. I told you not to worry."
Shinyu wrapped his arm around her back and the other below her knees. Yumie clutched onto the baby tightly while he sprinted out of the room. Shinyu lifted Yumie into his arms and sprinted out of the room. Agents burst through the door at the end of the hallway, shouting orders to capture and kill them. Despite carrying an adult woman with a baby in his arms, Shinyu's pace never faltered. He was never the strong and charismatic husband he wanted to be for Yumie, but he was blessed with a doctor's brain. It could respond to stimuli in moments and think of any solution to any clinical issue.
"I need to find the exit. Where… where's the exit…?"
As he spoke in pants, his formerly white eyes gained the color of a deep blue ocean. From his perspective, the surroundings appeared more refined and smooth as if he were seeing through a high-resolution camera that tinted his perception of the world around him blue. From the fainted footprints on the ground that were now clear as day to him, and the streaks of wind and air that were coming from one end of the intersection, Shinyu found it as he kicked open the metal doors that were labeled by a glowing, green exit sign. The couple escaped and pursued the forest that lay straight ahead, only a distance away.
But as they were coming in closer and closer proximity to the dense foliage, they saw a continuously growing light from behind them. Doctor Shinyu turned his head before he instinctively drove his foot into the ground to leap into a sideways dodge, narrowly evading the bright and immensely large orb of light that then reached into the sky and exploded into a spectacle.
"This is for kicking my face, you damn snake."
It was the agent from before, with a large purple obtrusion on his face.
Shinyu was relieved that the agent's Quirk hadn't reached him, but the familiar sound of wailing filled the air once again. He thought it was the baby and wasn't concerned by it, but the screaming was feminine.
"S-Shinyu…!" Yumie cried.
Shinyu returned to a full sprint, shocked into silence at the brief sight he saw. Yumie's severed foot.
"I-It's okay, Shinyu," Yumie reassured, her voice and eyes holding back the next onslaught of blood-curdling screams. "My Quirk will heal it soon. Keep running."
"Are you sure? You just gave birth… your body is weak... I need to stop the bleeding so that your Quirk can heal you faster."
Before any more attacks could be sent towards them and the agents chasing them on foot could catch them, Shinyu, Yumie, and the nameless child had disappeared into the forest.
"FIND THEM! DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN!"
Hours trickled away, yet the agents remained clueless, their efforts fruitless in the dense maze of the forest. Deep within the trees, Shinyu hastily sealed Yumie's severed ankle with the sleeve torn from his lab coat. As the bleeding stopped and wisps of steam exited the injury, relief washed over him.
"There, your Quirk should take care of the rest," Shinyu murmured, holding his wife and newborn son in a tight embrace. But the relief was fleeting, overshadowed by a heavy uncertainty.
"What's gonna happen to us?" Yumie whispered, her voice overflowing with worry. "We defied our side of the agreement. They'll pursue us relentlessly. It's only a matter of time before they catch up."
"Yeah... We're running on borrowed time," he acknowledged grimly. "I'd say we have about a week before we're found."
"Shinyu... What's our next move?"
Shinyu pressed his fingertips to his brow in a deep bout of thought. "We have to leave Korea. Head to Japan."
"Japan?" Yumie's eyes widened in disbelief. "But that's where my family is mainly based. It'd be suicide."
"Exactly why we should go."
Yumie's brows furrowed in confusion. "I don't understand."
"They won't expect us to go there," Shinyu explained. "They'll be looking in every corner of the globe except Japan because they know how cautious we've been of them. It's our best chance."
Yumie's conflicted gaze shifted to their slumbering child.
"...He's been asleep this whole time?" Shinyu observed, gently brushing his hand over the baby's soft hair.
"Yes, it's for the best he was," Yumie replied, a delicate smile on her lips as she looked at their son. "...Alright. Let's go to Japan."
As they held each other's hand tightly, Shinyu nodded with heavy determination in his eyes.
"From now on, we're Japanese citizens," he declared. "Our new name... Kanagi. It means 'crown' and 'calm'."
Tears welled in Yumie's eyes, a mixture of fear and relief. "It's perfect."
Shinyu mirrored her emotion as they shared a tender kiss with their son in their hands.
"What should we name him?" Shinyu asked, pulling away.
"Hmm... Considering we'll be living in Japan... Shoyu!"
"Shoyu?" Shinyu responded with a hint of amusement in his voice. "Sounds like my name."
"I named him after the strongest and most charismatic husband I know."
