CH 33
While back in Sydney, Lisa and Karen showed up at the house after the taxi drop them off. They walk up to the front door and knock onto it and waited.
"did you call mum to tell her we were coming" Karen asked
"Yes remember I left a message on the answer phone on Monday morning"
"Oh yeah" Karen knock on the door once again
"mum must be out"
"where would she go"
"good point"
"Excuse me" then turn to an elder women who walking up the path
"Yes" Lisa said
"Who are you looking for" Lisa and Karen look at each other with a frond then turn to the women once again
"This is our mother house we came to visit her even though it none of you businessmen" Karen said as she bang on the door
"It no good banging on the door, she not there any more"
"what the hell are you talking about" Lisa said yelling at the women whom she think is nuts
"You haven''t heard, Vicky past away last week"
"what" Lisa and Karen said at the same time in shock
"It true the funeral was on Monday, My husband and were there. I spoke to Peter my self, he said that Nikki been trying to call you both all weekend, leaving messages and your uncle Victor been trying to contact you for a month since she was rush into hospital"
"they never contacted us, your lying"
"Have you check your messages" the women asked.
Karen got her phone out of her purse and look at it to see her text in box was full so she went through them till she saw number of them from Pete, so she check them
"Lisa" Karen show Lisa a text message.
'Mum past away at 1324 hours today, call home when you get this message'
"When was that sent" Lisa asked Karen look at the time and date
"last Friday at two thirty" Karen said looking at her phone then to Lisa.
"mum dead" Karen said in shock
"I'm sorry for you loss" the women said
Lisa turn and walk over to a window and look in side "Every thing gone" Lisa said
"what" Karen walk over and look though the window then turn to the women
"where did all mum stuff go?"
"Ask Peter" Then Karen look through her phone list and press call button.
Nick just finish putting every thing in the dish washer and close and lock the door before turning it on when the house phone rings
"I'll get it" He called out as he walk over and pick up the phone
"Hello... who... who calling...hi auntie Karen... hey don't yell at me... no" then he move the phone away from his ear when she was yelling at him then he move the phone back to his ear
"I will not get dad cause you yell and swear at me and you got no manners, good bye" then he hung up
"Who was that on the phone" Nikki asked. Nick turn to his mum
"auntie Karen, she wanted dad"
"Well then you should of taken the phone to him"
"I know that mum, but auntie Karen was yelling and swearing at me and she didn't say please, she was demanding to talk to dad, I told her not to yell and swear at me and got no manners, then I said good bye and hung up" Nikki step ford pulling Nick into her arms
"did I do wrong mum"
"No, I'm prod of you" she cup his face
"thanks mum but why was auntie Karen so mean to me on the phone"
"i don't know sweetie" then she hung him once again
"Every thing ok" Nikki turn to Pete who walk into the kitchen
"Karen called Pete she was demanding, and she was yelling and swear at Nick while he was talking to her"
"don't for get no manners mum" Nick said.
"so you hung up on her" Pete asked
"After I said good bye" Pete smile
"you did good son"
"thanks dad"
"Pete she must got gotten our message about Vicky"
"Bit late. Hang on they were going to visit mum this weekend" Pete said
"that right I for got about it. They would of notice the house empty and would of check there phone messages" Nikki said
"then Karen would of called here"
"wondering what was going on"
"True" Then the phone rings so Nikki answer it
"Hello... hi Karen... no you listen here, I will not pass the phone to Pete... no I do not like your attitude Karen and I do not like it when you swear and yell at my son you nephew like that... no I will not... that is your problem, not mine" Pete put his hand out so she pass him the phone
"Karen don't you talk to my wife and son like that... I don't care"
Pete walk out of the kitchen with the cordless phone then they heard him yelling on the phone when Victor walk into the kitchen
"every thing ok" Nikki turn to him
"Karen call, Pete dealing with her right now"
they they heard him yell at Karen so Nikki cover Nick ears knowing what Pete is like with it came to dealing with his sister. Then they heard him swear over the phone while yelling at the same time.
"I never heard peter talk like that before" victor said
"I have but only to Lisa and Karen"
"sounds like they now know about Vicky"
"Yeah" They only could hear one side of the conversation for another minute then it was all quiet.
Then Pete walk back into the kitchen and put the phone back in it place then he turn to Nikki She move till she stood in front of him not taking her eyes off him. They look at each other for a few minutes then Pete pulled her into a hug as he calm down
"Want to talk about it"
"Karen wanted to where all of mum things are, who got the house, inheritance, things like that. You heard what I said"
"Yes we did"
"sorry about the yelling uncle"
"you got your reasons Peter"
"mum" she turn to Nick
"Yes nick"
"Can I have my ice cream now" Nikki laugh
"nick" Pete said in shock while Victor grin
"Well how about we walk down to the dairy and get one in a cone"
"You just want a milk shake" Pete said.
Nikki turn to Pete "that to" she said smiling "ice cream sounds good about now, come on then" Pete said.
They went and got there shoes on and Pete got car keys which also got the house keys on it and his wallet. They walk out of the house locking it up before walking down to the daily while talking and laughing.
When they arrived at the daily victor got him self chocolate ice cream. Nick got chocolate chip banana. Pete got him self a strawberry while Nikki got her self a coffee ice cream and Caramel thick shake. They sat out side at one of the picnic tables while eating it.
"This is so good but it a shame it not stronger" Nikki said as she was eating her ice cream
"Nikki I know how you like your coffee and this is the only way for you to have it till after the baby born" Pete said
"I know but still" she said while smiling.
They talk while enjoying there deserts. When finish they start walking back to the house. Nikki and Pete got there arms around each other waist while talking to Nick and Victor.
When they return home they got them selves a drink and went to watch a movie before going to bed since it been a long day for them all.
The next day the truck arrived to deliver all of the items that Vicky left for Pete. The two guys and Pete carry the items into the house. Once done, Pete sign the paper work before the guys left.
Then the four of them started sorting out where the china cabinets go then started unpacking the boxes. Nikki went and got her camera and took photos of each of the items
"Nikki why are you taking photos for" Victor asked
"Insurance and if any items get stolen at least we got photos of what they look like"
"good idea" Nikki carry on taking photos.
When every thing was put away they all relax for the rest of the afternoon. That night, Pete cook dinner while Victor and Nick was playing a game and Nikki was reading a book while her legs were up on the foot stool that Pete brought for her before he flew down to Sydney.
The next morning Nikki took Nick to school then she return back to work she she already spoken to Pete about it the night that the will was read out and he could spend time with Victor before he flies back home on Thursday.
When Nikki return back to work Steve welcome her back. They talk in his office for five minutes before she started work for the day.
The next morning Nikki was doing some typing on the computer when Steve walk over to her. "Lieutenant" she look up from the monitor
"Yes sir"
"Can you look for a boson for the next two weeks" He pass her a file
"Yes sir, I'll see what I can do"
"thank you" then he turn around when a lieutenant started talking to Steve as they walk away.
Nikki open the file and read what it says. Then she started making phone calls to find a temporary boson for a patrol boat for two weeks. By the end of the day there was none available. She she look at the file once again then she called Pete.
"Hello"
"hi victor, it Nikki, is Pete there"
"sure, he out side bring the washing in, hang on" Nikki heard Victor walk towards the back door
"Peter, it Nikki for you" Nikki waited then heard
"Nikki what can I do for my beautiful wife" Nikki smile
"Well I can think of a number of things Pete" she said smiling
"Oh I bet you can, so what can I do for you"
"Pete when are you planing on returning back to work"
"when Hammersley returns, why"
"Would you return sooner"
"Nikki what going on"
"I've been trying to find a temporary replacement of a boson on one of the patrol boats. He wife is due to give birth next week. But there was one to do the patrol but he ended up in hospital having his tonsils removed and there no other boson available"
"you ask me to fill in"
"Yes"
"How long"
"Two weeks on bendigo. I know it not Hammersley Pete. If you do want to go, ship sails Friday morning and would be back two weeks on Saturday the day before Hammersley returns" Pete thought about it
"what about your appointment?"
"that on Thursday"
"This week"
"Yes our appointment is hour after victor flies back home"
"there no other boson?"
"none I've spent just about all day looking for one on short notice"
"for two weeks" Nikki smile
"Yes for two weeks"
"Sure I can handle it, tell commander Marshal I'll fill in"
"your a life saver and I love you so much"
"i love you to, oh better go, our son arrived home"
"Ok see you when I get home"
"Ok" then they hung up.
Nikki pick up the files then stood up and walk towards Steve office. He was on the phone so he wave her in. she walk in just as he hung up.
"what can I do for you lieutenant"
"I found temporary replacement on Bendigo sir" she pass him the file
"you found one" he asked with his eye brows raised
"Yes sir"
"I've been trying for two days and you found a petty officer"
"Yes sir"
"Who" Nikki smile
"Petty officer... Peter Tomaszewski sir" he sat up in his chair
"your husband"
"Yes sir, I even talk to him about it and explain the situation. He said he will do it sir"
"Are you sure he up to it"
"Yes sir, I know Pete very well. After a week shore leave he starts going crazy and he will by Sunday. This way he can move on... it will be a start"
"Well then have him here on Friday morning at zero seven hundred"
"He will be here sir"
"thank you lieutenant"
"Your welcome sir" then she turn around and walk out of his office with a smile on her face.
On Thursday morning Nikki met Pete at the hospital since he was taking Victor to the air port. Pete saw Nikki walking towards him having a milk shake.
"Little one must have been hungry" Pete said as they hug and kiss
"Yes, did Victor get away ok"
"Yes he did" by then Nikki finish her drink and put the container in the rubbish bin before they walk in side while holding hands.
They saw the doctor strait away. He talk to them both as well Nikki giving her normal blood and urine samples before they walk into another room where the bed is.
Nikki went and put a gown on before getting onto the bed and nurse putting a sheet over her lower legs. Pete step ford and held onto his hand as the doctor put the transponder onto Nikki stomach and move it around while taking measurements. Nikki and Pete smile as there baby moved around
"Is every thing ok with our baby" Pete asked
"Yes, your baby bigger than a five month old"
"Meaning?" Pete said.
"you going to have a big baby when it born"
"nick was eight two when he was born" Nikki said
"Well this one going to be at least nine, ten pounds"
"that a big baby" Pete said
"Yes it is"
"Can you tell us what we are having" Nikki asked
"do you want to know"
"Yes so we will know what theme to do up the nursery" Nikki said
"And name our baby" Pete said
"ok, let see" he move the transponder around
"Ok well I can tell you for sure, it a girl"
"Girl" Pete said
"Yes, it a girl" Pete turn to Nikki and bend over and have her a kiss
"a girl"
"Yes so you know what that means" she said smiling
"no"
"I win the bet"
"Oh yeah, that bet"
Twenty minutes later they walk out of the hospital and went to get some lunch while talking about baby names since Nikki won the bet on the sex of there child she get to choice the nursery theme. They decided to keep the sex of the baby to them selves for a while.
