Jamilah knew that she had to find him one day. She could feel it deep in her bones.
She knew she had to.
For several months now, she'd been thinking long and hard about how she could find her missing older twin brother, but the problem was, he was kidnapped as a baby! There was no possible way on what he had looked like…
Until Jay came with the other 3 VKs.
Jamilah and her two remaining brothers, Aziz and Emir came up with a theory about how Jay might be their long-lost brother.
Maybe Jay was their missing brother, maybe not. Who knows?
Either way, Jamilah had to find him. Not only she could get to reunite with her brother, but he could also reunite with his real parents, Aladdin and Jasmine.
Ever since Jahir was kidnapped at 3 weeks, the parents were utterly devastated, especially Jasmine as she carried him and Aziz for technically 9 months, only for him to be taken away from her as revenge.
Neither Jamilah nor her two brothers couldn't stand to see the pain in their mother's eyes, but at least she glimmer of hope that she could see him one day, right?
Hopefully.
"I dunno, no matter how hard I had doubts about Jahir coming home, there's a voice telling me that one day, I can see my Jahir," Jasmine said truthfully with a hint of sorrow in her tone.
"That's the spirit, Mom!" Jamilah smiled at her mother. "He will come home. Just have faith that he will come home…"
Whenever Jasmine had severe doubt, it was always one of her kids who had to encourage her not to give up on her child. And that's why she was always thankful for the 3 of them.
"Jamie!"
"Huh?" Jamilah was snapped out of her reverie and turned to see her best friend, Nina, the twin daughter of Tiana and Naveen. She was also Aziz's girlfriend as they had just dated recently.
"You've gone pensive again," Nina told her. "It's been like the 3rd time since week you lost focus in class."
Jamilah flushed. "Oh, sorry. I guess I've been thinking too much then."
"Eh," Nina flipped her hand back and forth. "It's fine. Grammar is boring anyway and half of the kids trying their best to pay attention. Lol."
"Oh, so is Grammar over or-"
"We have 3 minutes left until Grammar is over."
"Ah. I can't wait though!" Jamilah said. "Can I borrow your notes? I wanna see where I left off."
"Sure, Sweetie! Here," Nina gave her friend the book so that she could quickly jot down some notes she had missed before the bell went off.
Jamilah and Nina have been best friends ever since they were toddlers and recently, they had rekindled their friendship after not talking to each other for a little because Jamilah was dating the infamous Chad Charming who had abused her terribly. And she didn't want to get into that now.
Thankfully, the bell had gone off, signaling that Grammar class was over for the day.
Jamilah and Nina sighed in relief as they as well as the other students gathered their things before leaving. They were glad that Grammar was the last class of the day.
"Don't forget to bring in your assignments on Monday!" The teacher, Ms. Jones called out.
Most students mumbled a response as they left class.
Meanwhile, Jamilah and Nina were having a conversation about Jamie looking for her brother as they headed towards the lockers.
"So your parents, especially Aunt Jasmine still have doubts about her son coming home?" Nina asked, her eyebrows raised.
"Yeah," Jamilah nodded. "It's either one of us or Dad had to reassure her that Jahir is alive and he's coming home."
"Oh," Nina stared at her friend sadly. "Poor Aunt Jasmine. I can't imagine what she was going through now."
"Yeah," Jamilah sighed softly. "Mom is depressed. Very, but Dad and Granddad are with her, cheering her up."
"Hmm, has she ever been to a counselor or a therapist?"
"Yeah, but she's still depressed."
Nina didn't say anything after that.
As soon as the girls found themselves at their lockers, they opened their lockers and placed their books neatly into their lockers when Nina's phone went off.
Nina frowned as she took out her phone from her skirt pocket and checked it.
It was a message from Aziz.
A smile started to form on Nina's face and Jamilah noticed.
"I know that look," Jamilah began as she slammed her locker shut, and turned to her friend. "Lemme guess, it's Aziz, right?"
"Uh huh," Nina nodded excitedly without taking her eyes off her phone. "He's asking me out on a date!"
"Where?"
"At Tony's Pizza," Nina replied.
"Sweet!" Jamilah smiled. "Tony's Pizza is probably the best place to have a date. I hope you have a good time!"
"Aw! Thanks, Sweetie! I will and I'll spill you with the deets!" She let out a tiny squeal while Jamilah laughed.
Shortly after, Nina gave her best friend a quick hug before she left as her boyfriend was waiting for her outside at the school.
As soon as Nina was out of earshot, Jamilah let out a sigh, and slid herself onto the cold tile floor, resting her back against the locker.
Don't get her wrong, Jamilah loved to see her best friend happy and she was glad she chose her older brother as Aziz was a great guy and all. However, Jamilah wasn't ready to date again anytime soon although she was thankful that she had Li'l Shang in her life as he was a genuinely kind person she only saw him as a friend. The Agrabah princess was still reeling from the emotional, physical, and mental abuse she'd endured from her ex-boyfriend, Chad Charming, and was fearful that she would get into another relationship again.
So, for this year, Jamilah's main goal was to take care of her mental health and find her missing brother and that's all that matters to her at this moment.
While Jamilah sat alone on the floor looking around absentmindedly, Jay came by and saw her sitting on the floor.
"Hey, Jamilah," Jay greeted as he raised a brow. "What ya doing on the floor?"
"Hi, Jay," Jamie replied. "I'm sitting on the floor as you can see."
"Yeah, but I don't see you as the type to sit on the floor where everybody walked and spit out their gum."
Jamilah slightly scrunched her face. "You have a point but don't worry, the kids at Auradon Prep don't spit out their gum on the floor."
Jay shrugged as he still wasn't entirely convinced. "If you say so."
"So," Jamilah began, changing the subject. "What's up?"
"Eh nothing much, I'm heading to Tourney practice now."
"Sweet!" She gave the long-haired boy a small smile. "I guess I'll come and watch later."
"Ooh, do you wanna come see me sweat and flex my muscles?" Jay teased lightly as he wiggled his eyebrows and winked at the girl.
Jamilah rolled her brown eyes, playfully of course.
"Ew, no."
"Aw boo," Jay pouted, feigning hurt, and Jamilah rolled her eyes again.
"Anyways, I gotta go. So I'll see you later," Jay said as he waved Jamilah goodbye and left quickly.
Jamilah just shook her head in amusement but in all honesty, she liked Jay. At first, when he and the other 3 VKs came to Auradon Prep, Jamilah and her brothers were wary but as soon as they got to know him a little, Jay was a cool guy. Too bad they couldn't hang out more to know him well.
In all honesty, Jay reminded Jamilah a lot of Aziz as Aziz was the type of guy to be funny, caring, and kind.
Then Jamilah paused for a moment. What if Jay was Aziz's twin brother?! Since they act alike.
But Jamilah shook her head, that wouldn't make any sense! Lots of people who aren't related act alike, so it would most likely be Jay acts like Aziz since he chose good along with Mal, Evie, and Carlos.
She sighed softly as she slowly rose to her feet, straightening her skirt as she slowly made her way to the library with the thought of Aziz and Jay having similarities in her mind.
….
"Jamilah?"
"Huh?"
"You've spaced out again."
"Oh, dang it!" Jamilah cursed softly as she placed her two fingers on her forehead.
Jamilah was having a 30-minute Chemistry lesson and revision session with Shang(he skipped a grade so he's a Senior) and so far, Jamilah was buried in her thoughts for most of the lesson.
"Are you okay, Jamie?" Shang asked, concern laced in his voice.
She nodded. "Um yeah. This is like the second time lost concentration and buried in my thoughts."
"Are you sure?" Shang looked at her skeptically. "We can end the session if you're not in the right head space to focus."
"No," Jamilah said firmly. "It's just-"
"Are you thinking about searching for a lost brother?
"Yeah."
Since Jamilah and Shang were close friends, she was comfortable telling him about her missing brother, and in return, he told her about his younger brother who died at 16 weeks.
Shang sighed softly as he leaned back on his chair, crossing his arms. "Have you found any clues?"
"No," Jamilah bit her bottom lip. "No luck or no clue."
"I'm so sorry, Jamilah," Shang told her. His hand then stretched across the table took Jamilah's soft hand, and started rubbing her knuckles gently with his thumb. "But don't give up. Keep searching until you find him as he is out there somewhere."
Hearing this coming from her friend made Jamilah smile lopsidedly. At the same time, she felt something as soon as Shang took her hand. Maybe it was a tiny spark? Or something else? She doesn't know but at the moment she felt reassured.
But Jamilah was still not interested in dating Shang, and Shang knew that so he respected her decision and gave her time to heal.
"Thanks, Shang."
The older boy gave her a gentle smile. "You're welcome. You wanna finish this revision on Coulomb's Law?"
"Yeah," Jamilah nodded. "I still don't fully understand that law."
"Alright, let's continue," Shang said as he helped Jamilah with her revision.
While Jamilah was revising her work, she mulled over Shang's words and yes, she will find her brother one way or the other.
As she hoped.
AN: This is my first Jay-centric story, kinda inspired by Stolen Half. So, I'm quiet nervous so I hope you like it!
