This is something new for me: for starters, I've never written dragonball fanfic before. Secondly, I've never written an AU before. Thirdly, this is based off someone I watch online, so kudos to Masakox for inspiring this story. So yeah, I'm a fan of Dragonball, have been since I was a kid. When Dragonball minus came out, also Dragonball Super Broly, I fell in love with the character known as Gine, Goku's mother. An outcast saiyan, I can dig that, also a good hearted saiyan, I can dig that too. Masakox came up with the idea, (along with Havorock), if Gine was in Goku's place she could be a good protagonist. In all honesty, I wanted to originally write a version of "Gine goes to earth with Goku," but that's been done to death, so I thought I'd give this a shot as no one has attempted this yet as far as I know. I will be attempting to base this off Dragonball, Journey to the West, and Masakox's version of this story, if I release parts before Masakox does. Let's just say that I'm keeping the spirit of the story the same. We start with a basic background of the world and story.
P.S: I'm going to try to keep this in the style of original Dragonball, but I'm not perfect.
Long ago, on a planet called Vegeta, there lived two races: the Tuffles, and the Saiyans. The Tuffles were a highly intelligent species, with advanced technology, whilst the Saiyans were a race of incredibly strong warrior people with monkey tails. The Saiyans did not originate on this planet, being originally from planet Sadala, yet due to constant battle that ravaged the planet they were forced to relocate. The Saiyans went and found the new world, planet Plant. Upon first arrival to the planet, war broke out between the Tuffles and the Saiyans. Eventually, the two sides called a truce, the Saiyans overwhelmed by the Tuffles technology; some say a Super Saiyan God appeared, forcing the other Saiyans to end the war. There was an agreement: the Saiyans would be given some stretch of land on the Planet, in order to bring up their villages and keep their civilization there; in exchange, the Tuffles would be left alone in their civilization.
When King Vegeta the second rose to power, he decided he did not like the terms of stalemate; he believed the Saiyans should have been victorious, wiping out the Tuffle race. He had also discovered that planet Plant had a moon, but would only be full once every eight years, so the Saiyans could not access their full power. He had hoped that if the war were to continue, the fateful day would come where the moon would be full, the Saiyans would then unleash their true power and they could claim the planet entirely for themselves.
Thus, the war had reignited, and it was fought for many years. The Saiyan race already had problem keeping their numbers up due to infighting, the war certainly did not help those matters. Two years after the war had been fought; the skies were too cloudy to give the Saiyans their power. Some saw this as a sign that the war would never end and the Saiyans would never gain the means to win.
The Saiyans were strong, but they lacked a team spirit that coordinated well. King Vegeta the second started to get desperate. Acquiring some of the Tuffles' technology, and using their smartest minds, (Some Tuffle-Saiyan hybrids that were allied with the Saiyans, their only use being their intellect), King Vegeta regretfully sent a desperate message out to Glacial empire.
"To the most wondrous…and resplendent…Emperor Glacier, I am King Vegeta the second, the leader of the now united Saiyan race. I heard…tales about your…conquests and your…glory. My people are a race of mighty warriors that dream of battle and…"
This was quite difficult for King Vegeta. The script was crafted by the intelligent Saiyans helping him with the transmission, and he was reminded that they only had one chance to get the transmission right. By this point, he was sounding like a uncouth dolt.
"We the Saiyans share our Planet…Plant with another species called…the Tuffles, but they are not interested in…fair and honorable…combat. Instead they cower behind their technological armaments instead of using their innate strength to…undermine what it means to be who we are. It sickens us to the core! I'm afraid our very existence may be in peril. If we don't stand against them, and remind them to never underestimate us again, just because we stand proud, instead of needing fancy metal things to fight our battles for us."
There was a moment of silence as the Saiyans reflected on why they fought the Tuffles. The King continued,
"We fought opposition was hopeless, but then we heard legends about you. We think…you could use…a race of powerful warriors such…as ourselves within your empire. If you aid us against our neighbors, I will pledge al-leg-iance to you as your vas-sal. I hope you will consider my offer." He ended the transmission with a bow, and then barked, "How do you turn off this blasted thing?"
This caused a few of his attendants to face palm before they helped him. His other attendants were impressed; it was very big of the King to stoop this low for their people. If this worked, they would no longer have to deal with the Tuffles anymore, who treated them like animals for their strong fortitude. Who knows, maybe working for the Glacial Empire would be beneficial. Instead of fighting themselves or destroying their home turf in civil war, they could decimate others on other planets. Some Saiyans hoped that should they be allowed to get strong enough, they could rise above the low position they're stooping to. It would be a challenge, as according to legend King Glacier and Prince Cold were stronger and more ruthless than any Saiyan alive.
The fight continued, quite hopelessly. The Saiyans may have been strong, but the Tuffles' technology was too powerful. Many days had passed, weeks even; it even dragged on into months. The Saiyans were starting to wonder if their transmission even reached the Glacial Empire, or if the Glacial Empire even existed. Some were thankful that they didn't have to stoop below an emperor as his dogs of war.
The transmission however, had reached the Glacial Empire. Heard by Emperor Glacier and Prince Cold himself; they were taking so long to respond because they found the message humorous. Prince Cold would keep replaying it over and over again for a laugh, this barbaric warrior trying to make himself seem eloquent, tripping over his obviously fed lines.
Emperor Glacier was an ancient being, falling apart at the seams. He kept himself in a hover chair, wearing a breathing mask, and yet he was no less terrifying. His eyes were blood red, ice cold in their gaze; he had two sets of horns, one pair white and the other black. Each time he spoke it was with a booming rasp. Despite being smaller than his son, he was still the commanding presence.
Prince Cold was very top heavy, every muscle thick, including his long tail. Despite seeming like a brute, he was more pragmatic than his father.
During a replay of the transmission in the bridge of their main ship, Prince Cold regarded his father,
"You're not laughing, father. I personally find it adorable that these apes have managed to band together to learn such relatively eloquent verbiage for our amusement." Glacier turned to his son with minimal gusto.
"Indeed, I have heard stories about them: Durable…not very smart; adaptable and capable of fighting at a young age."
"Yet you remain unconvinced," Cold said while raising an eyebrow.
"You don't get it Cold," barked his father. "You give an ape a fish, and it will come back for more. Give an ape a fishing rod, and it will stab you through the heart with it." This made Cold recoil, not through fear, but through annoyance. His father was refusing to see the bigger picture, again. His father was stubborn, some may call him a traditionalist, but Cold would call him stubborn.
"I think it's a pretty good deal, father. We could dabble in this venture a little; perhaps give them some basic weaponry and…transportation, maybe a few of those nursing capsules that are going spare."
"Nursing capsules!" sputtered Glacier, "Whatever for?!"
"I heard they still breed like animals," chuckled Cold. "'Pregnancy' they call it; how antiquated, in fact, rather demeaning for the cavalry."
"What is your point!?" said Glacier.
"My point is, father, that if we help these Saiyans we could find ourselves in the black quite handsomely. Put simply, it's free real estate." The look on Glacier's face did not spell intrigue, amusement, or any positive emotion really.
"That was always your problem child: DEALS. You always have to make a deal. You don't make deals with lesser lifeforms. You break them. A populous hopped up on an idea of a 'partnership,' will always find a way to stab you in the back in the end."
Cold knew how to read people, analyze them, find a weakness and then strike, and it no different with his father.
"Don't tell me you are…afraid of some apes, father." It was a dangerous dance, two dangerous beings in one room; one who could break you with words and one unafraid to be ruthless. Glacier grabbed his son by the neck, it was thin and small, but it was strong. Glacier let out a roar.
"If you weren't my son, I would've struck you down for insubordination! Don't you get it! One rebellion is like a ripple in a Com-link; I do not want any ripples in my link!" Glacier let go of Cold's throat and smiled. "But you might be right this time, neither I, nor your loyal brother Ice have to be worried about these Saiyans. If they do something nefarious, it won't be my problem; you can deal with them, understood?"
"Yes, father," replied Cold meekly, subtly messaging his throat. He did not want his father to know that his grasp had actually hurt him.
"And remember my boy," grinned Glacier, "This endeavor is not a test for your succession. I will never allow you to ruin my empire." Cold nodded and made his way to leave. "Cold, one more thing," Glacier added. "While I may seem decrepit and broken, do not think for one second you can get one over on me. I still have the power to crush you into the dust."
That was the end of that conversation. Cold deployed his forces to help the Saiyans win their little war against the Tuffles. The Tuffles were all but wiped out, the few surviving ones were forced to work for King Vegeta under the intelligent Saiyans, serving as doctors and scientists, managing and developing technology and medicine which the Saiyans lacked. The planet was renamed planet Vegeta, named after the king who led the effort against the Tuffles. These Tuffles were set in the caste of intelligence, with no other option but to breed with the intelligent Saiyans they worked with.
Due to the alliance with the Cold forces, as well as Tuffles' intelligence, the Saiyans were gifted technology. Scouting scopes and machines: the scopes could read an enemy's battle, as well as a teammate if it was directed at them. The machines were larger, meant for official registry, meant to be used at the time of Saiyan birth or in the first arrival of the scouting devices. These devices would rank a Saiyan's power level, and these readings would mark which class each Saiyan would belong to, and which jobs they could have.
This determined the caste system of Saiyan society, as nothing mattered to a Saiyan more than how strong something was…or how good something tasted. The society was mainly divided into low or high class, as the war dwindled the Saiyan population to only a few thousand Saiyans.
High class Saiyans were regarded as nobility and the elite forces, tasked with fighting the greatest of foes and threats. Middle class Saiyans were few, but were mainly high standing soldiers such as colonels and generals, some acted as advisors to the king himself. There was the intelligent caste, which was considered outside normal Saiyan society, constantly working under the king himself. Then there was the low class, which made up the rest of the population. They consisted of foot soldiers, cooks, maintenance workers and pod technicians. Some became trainers for the low class, while the high class had middle class instructors.
Some other gifts included transportation pods and ships, not to mention nursing capsules.
Only the Saiyan elite got to use the single use pods, while lower rank Saiyans needed clearance codes and an official mission statement to leave on a bigger vessel. As for nursing capsules, there were some who wished they had been available just a bit sooner.
That's it for the war, next we move onto Gine's family's backstory and her early life. So...Stay Tuned!
