Chapter 15

Rin stood in her room looking at the black dress that she wore. She refused to wear any color other than the color that she was used to, which was black. Her red-brown hair stuck out like a sore thumb compared to those who had darker hair. She was still rather surprised that she was even related to Aragorn. His hair was dark and hers was reddish. It was rather unfathomable to her.

She swallowed the lump in her throat as she smoothed her hands over the gown and decided to leave the room. Perhaps they wouldn't say much of anything about her being in a gown. She bit her lip as she met up with Lord Elrond, Gandalf, and Thorin who were walking up to the high table where they would be seated.

"Kind of you to invite us. I'm not really dressed for dinner." Gandalf said to Elrond before nodding his head towards Rin.

Rin nodded her head back at Gandalf as they slowly made their way up the stairs.

"Well, you never are," Elrond said as they went into the courtyard.

Thorin's eyes narrowed at what Rin was wearing. He hadn't expected her to wear a gown at dinner.

Rin cleared her throat as she sat next to Gandalf. This was going to be one awkward meeting that they were about to have about the swords and she knew that something was going to be said to not please the other, she just hoped that what she felt at that very moment was that she wouldn't be right on this. She nibbled slightly on the food that was before her, her stomach rumbling at the thought of food.

Elrond picked up the sword that Thorin had on him. He looked it over before explaining what it was. "This is Orcrist, the Goblin Cleaver. A famous blade, forged by the High Elves of the West, my kin. May it serve you well." He said before handing it to Thorin.

Thorin accepted it with a nod of his head.

Elrond then took the other sword from Gandalf looking it over. "And this is Glamdring, the Foe-hammer, sword of the King of Gondolin. These swords were made for the goblin wars of the First Age..."

Rin picked up her goblet drinking down some of the wine that they had. Her heart clenched in her chest wondering if this dinner was going to be something that she wasn't going to have to worry about or if she truly did have something to worry about. Her mind then went to her brother who was hidden from prying eyes. She could only hope that no one would see her with him. She knew that it would be hard to explain to them why he was hidden from the world.

How did you come by these?" Elrond questioned looking over at Gandalf.

"We found them in a troll hoard on the Great East Road, shortly before we were ambushed by orcs," Gandalf explained to Elrond while he continued to enjoy the food that was before him.

Elrond put his goblet down looking at Gandalf more sternly. "And what were you doing on the Great East Road?"

"Excuse me," Thorin said getting up and picking up his mug of ale.

Gandalf tried his best to explain how they found Glamdring and Orcist.

"Excuse me," Rin said softly as she moved away from the table to allow the two of them to talk. She held her goblet in her hand as she moved closer to where the dwarves were trying to eat their meals.

"13 dwarves and a Halfling; strange traveling companions, Gandalf. And bringing Rin into this."

"These are the descendants of the House of Durin! They're noble, decent folk. And they're surprisingly cultured. They've got a deep love of the arts".

Nori turned to the harp player behind him. "Change the tune, why don't you? I feel like I'm at a funeral!" He said rubbing his ear.

"Did somebody die?!" Oin exclaims looking around to make sure that they are all there and accounted for.

Bofur looked around the group seeing that they weren't having too much fun with the poor music that was playing. "Alright lads, there's only one thing for it!" He said jumping onto the table.

Rin raised her brow knowing that this was probably not going to be a good sign of what was to come. She could only hope that it wasn't going to be too bad of a problem that was to come.

There is an inn, a merry old inn

beneath an old grey hill,

And there they brew a beer so brown

That the Man in the Moon himself came down

one night to drink his fill.

The others joined in singing and began to throw food around enjoying themselves.

Thorin's foot tapped to the song that was being sung his eyes slowly wandering over to Rin who had a worried look on her face. His brows pinched together wondering what could be bothering her.

The ostler has a tipsy cat

that plays a five-stringed fiddle;

And up and down he saws his bow

Now squeaking high, now purring low,

now sawing in the middle.

So the cat on the fiddle played hey-diddle-diddle,

a jig that would wake the dead:

He squeaked and sawed and quickened the tune,

While the landlord shook the Man in the Moon:

'It's after three!' he said.

Rin ducked a flying piece of food that was thrown by Fili before seeing a small boy who was peeking his head around the corner to see what was going on. The color drained from her face as she ducked under some food that Kili had thrown and down the steps she went leaving the group of dwarves to have their fun.

She wrapped her arm around the young boy and pulled him away from the merriment not knowing that the King had his eye on her the entire time. "Estel… Cin tur- ú- n- hi."

"Im wanted na see."

"I dwarves tur- ú- see cin, Estel. Too dangerous."

Estel pouted as his sister led him away further from the site of the dwarves. "But they looked like they were having fun."

"They were Estel… But remember Lord Elrond doesn't want anyone to see you."

The ten-year-old huffed crossing his arms. "I know…"

Rin kneeled before him stroking some of his dark hair back from his face. "Did you miss me?"

Estel launched himself into her arms hugging her tightly. "Yes."

"I'm sorry I was gone for so long."

Estel sniffled holding onto her. "Are you leaving again?"

"Oh… Estel, I'm afraid so." She admitted softly. "I'm only here for a short amount of time… I'm helping the dwarves return to their home."

"Like we can't return to ours?"

"One day we will." She admitted softly.

This is the end of Chapter 15. I hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter. I tried my best with trying to write this chapter out. I think it turned out fairly well. We have some cuteness in this chapter with the adorable Estel being in this chapter. I think that he should be added to give some depth to Rin's character. There will be a little bit more Estel in future chapters. Please leave a review and let me know what you think of this chapter. Reviews help me keep going when it comes to updating. I can't wait to show you guys what happens next. I hope to have the next chapter out soon. Until next time.
