I haven't written anything in a long time. So with that being said. There will be grammar mistakes, mistakes in general. Spelling, not so much. I do have spell check after all. I may even use a word that makes sense in my head but it is garbage and misused. Please correct me if that is the case. I am sort of winging it here.
This fandom is pretty dead but I thought I would revive a little bit of this for those who enjoyed this pairing. I hope that you the readers enjoy this, I have had this story in my head since the final movie. I always wanted this to be continued, the movies that is, alas all good things must come to an end.
This story is some cannon, some imagination, some things that won't make sense until it does. Or doesn't, I shall call it continuity errors.
Ok enough of this whatever I am saying. oh... be gentle with the reviews. I appreciate all criticism, just not the flames. Oh almost forgot.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything Resident evil wise or its corresponding characters or IP.
Chapter One
New Beginnings
Pain... white hot pain is all that comes to mind. She faintly hears someone. A woman telling her to breathe?
"Mmpph" followed by some coughing
"ALICE?! Alice!?" cries Claire.
Both relieved and scared for her friend. They have been through a lot together including now surviving an apocalypse.
Add that to the bucket list.
The ground is unsettling, the smell is mix between a landfill that is full of putrid sour rot and old blood, the smell stings her nose, and Alice slowly is returning to consciousness. She feels like an old computer trying to boot up after an upgrade. She does a mental checklist:
"Legs... I can feel them. Okay, I feel my toes. That's good. I can maybe walk?"
"Arms... Yeah, I think I have a cut, it stings near my elbow."
"Why... why I am being annoyingly shook around?"
"Give me a minute…"
"Bluhhhmmph,"
Alice's eyes are still closed, she doesn't want to open them up just yet. She hopes it is a dream, but the smell is becoming overwhelming.
"My nose definitely works."
The yelling of her name makes Alice acutely aware that her hearing works. Aside from the slight ringing from the explosion she was not supposed to survive from, let alone the anti-virus.
"Yeah, I can hear you…" croaks Alice while slowly opening her eyes to sudden perfection.
The world is gray and washed out. Not Claire though, she brings color even in the darkest of places. Sitting beside Alice in the middle of a wasteland holding her good hand jostling her to wake up.
"She's beautiful"
Tears..
Tears of joy, tears of relief from everything that has transpired over the last 24 hours.
Tears that her friend is alive.
Claire lets out a breath she didn't even know she was holding. She wipes her eyes and sniffles, letting out another breath. This one to calm and collect herself.
"Am I sure I am not dead?"
"Claire is holding my hand!"
"I'm sweating..."
"Be calm Alice. Don't do anything stupid."
"Are you ok?" Alice's raspy voice echoes in the sea of the undead that surrounds her and Claire.
"Yess, you did it Alice" Tears returning to Claire's big blue eyes
Alice can see her own reflection in Claire's watery eyes. She could look worse, she supposes.
"Wait, why are you asking me?"
"Omg Alice your hand!?" Claire gingerly takes Alice's hand that Dr. Isaacs mutilated.
"OW, gentle" hisses Alice.
"Sorry" a blush creeps up Claire's rosy cheeks part from crying and another from hurting her friend.
"It's ok. It is just a reminder that I am here, I guess." Alice adjusts her eyes and takes a gander at her body and to really look at her hand.
Alice knows she is missing some fingers. However, she feels like they are still there even after the dreaded laser room seared her fingers off like butter while cauterizing at the same time.
Pushing down her anger Alice drops her hand and decides to get up, because there a rock she noticed is stabbing her shoulder and the smell is making her sick. Or it could be the pain, she can't tell anymore.
Alice goes to get up and Claire moves out of the way so she can help Alice get to her feet.
"Wooouuuh" Alice feels disorientation and decides to take whatever she is doing slow.
"Damn, I need a vacation."
Unsteadily, Alice finds her footing and is relieved she can actually stand on her own. Well, sort of, she is putting half of her weight on Claire, and she uses it as an excuse to put her head on Claire's shoulder. Almost nuzzling, Alice catches a wonderful smell radiating from Claire. It smells like baby powder.
"Was this her natural smell?"
How.. how ..intoxicating…
"Mmmbaby" Alice nonchalantly mumbles.
Soon as the words leave her mouth. A Wide-eyed Alice she realizes she may have just said this out loud. She lifts her head directing her eyes anywhere but Claire. Alice decides to distract herself.
"Coughing"
Ouch.
"Play it off Alice. So much for not doing anything stupid."
Claire helps steady Alice to lean on what is left of a nearby car.
"Did you say something?" Claire inquisitively asks.
"NOPE" Alice yelped.
Alice's heart was thundering against her chest, feeling a blush creep into her chest and dangerously moving towards her face.
"Oh. It's just... I thought I heard you said baby?" Claire says with a mischievous smirk across her face.
"Oh no, I said maybe. Maybe as in, maybe we should see what this thingy does, ya know. The red queen stuff?" Alice states matter-of-factly, ignoring that her voice just betrayed her.
"Right.. she will believe that"
If it didn't hurt Alice would have scoffed.
Almost disappointed, Claire nods and settles in by Alice once again in her proximity.
Alice sucks in a breath hoping Claire doesn't notice. She receives goosebumps traveling from the light touch of Claire's shoulder, which is a nice distraction to the lingering throb that is finding its way across her fingers to her head. Pain deciding where to settle.
Claire is noticing something different with Alice. The stoic badass is acting fidgety and nervous and she most definitely heard Alice lightly gasp.
"Let's find a way out of here first. Between the smell and your condition", Claire casually waves toward the piles of corpses, that clone Dr. Issacs brought to umbrella's doorstep.
"I would like to take care of your hand please. Stay here"
Claire hands Alice a gun, just in case. While she sets out looking for a car.
"Be back shortly" Claire smiles warmly towards Alice.
Claire starts walking away back toward what's left of Umbrella. On the way-out Claire remembered Umbrella had Humvees parked near the entrance maybe there is a salvageable Humvee or truck?
Alice watches Claire walk away half hearing what she just said. Her heart and body are disarmed by the smile coming from Claire Redfield.
Shaking her head out of her reverie.
"I must have a concussion" Alice surmises on why she her body is suddenly betraying her in front of Claire right now.
"Yeah, that's what's happened" I am concussed and most definitely do not have a crush."
Alice starts to examine her wounded hand again. She carefully bends what is left of her cauterized fingers and the ringing of pain finally decides and settles on where her fingers should be.
"Fuck, that was a bad idea," Alice spat grimacing.
Bending over, sucking in a breath trying to dull the heartbeat in her would be fingers, Alice sees out of the corner of her eye Claire pulling up with a proud grin.
The grin fades as she notices Alice clutching her hand. Claire pulls the Humvee in park and goes to help Alice inside. Once she feels Alice is settled, Claire gets in the driver side and decides what to do next. She hasn't been in this position in a while. Not having a purpose aside from staying alive, leading a convoy, being a leader. It feels foreign to her and it's unsettling.
"What do I do now the infection is gone?"
Pushing aside the unknown, Claire is determined to find Alice a place to heal up while she devises a plan on what to do next. While putting the Humvee back into drive with renewed determination.
"Let's find a first aid kit or something to help with those wounds."
Claire, hearing no response, looks over to see Alice who is staring at umbrella tech lost in thought. She smiles for the first time in a while. A smile of hope. She smiles for her friend that is alive, and well-ish. She smiles, finally knowing that this is a new beginning not only for her and her friend, but also for humans.
