Sisters Divided – Part 19:
Flora's dreams that night had been plagued with darkness and nightmares… mainly nightmares about Gellert's capture and Vinda had been there to reassure her every time. The French witch had wondered if the separation would have an effect on Flora, especially now the connection between Flora and the Wizard had developed in the way that it had. It was doubtful the witch had got much sleep but she wasn't showing it as the group came face to face with each other.
"I'm going to take Vinda out for breakfast," Flora said before moving to grab her coat, "then we'll probably be gone for a while and return around dusk," she said.
"Flora…" Tina spoke before watching her sister as she grabbed her coat and head outside with Vinda following close behind. She glanced back at Tina before following Flora down the stairs and outside.
"Now I simply must take you to my favourite place in New York," Flora said, "well my favourite breakfast place," she said as she looked at Vinda, beginning to lead the way through the streets of New York.
The French witch had never been to New York before so everything was new to her and she was observing how the city worked whilst listening to the bits that Flora was trying to tell her. It appeared the witch was fond of where she'd grown up.
"How do you know that professor?" Vinda asked as they finally reached the restaurant that Flora had been steering them towards, "you can tell me once we're seated," she said.
Flora made her way into the restaurant and smiled as she was greeted before sitting down in a chair by the window.
"She's Tina's best friend who helped out after our parents died," she told Vinda, "Lally's mother would help us so we could remain in the apartment," she said before sighing softly, "it's partly my fault that they're dead as I caught dragon pox and mother cared for me but she and father both caught dragon pox and died."
Vinda listened to what Flora was saying before she nodded. That would be something that she would have to speak to Grindelwald about when they returned. She hoped that she would learn more about Flora during the trip. She looked at the menu and wondered what Flora would have but she had her suspicions after looking at the menu.
"I suspect you will be having French Toast with strawberries," the French witch smirked as she watched Flora with interest, "syrup as well."
"Naturally," Flora spoke with a chuckle as she looked at Vinda before ordering her food with orange juice and then listened to see what Vinda had ordered.
The two spoke about random things as they waited and ate their food as Vinda questioned Flora carefully about what she knew and she knew to be careful how much she pushed Flora with questions. Despite the fact that Flora trusted her there were some things that, when touched upon, that Flora may close off and that was the last thing anyone needed, not least her as she was the only female confidant that Flora had.
Eventually the two left the restaurant and went to look around the shops.
"New York has always been my home and that it remains because it's all I've ever known," Flora spoke, "it's home and that is what comforts me. I wish to come back more but I am not sure that will always be a good idea as Gellert will worry too much and he doesn't deserve that at all."
"Your home will always be here but, for now at least, your home will be with us and Gellert," Vinda said as she watched Flora looking at some dresses that she was clearly interested in. She wanted to update her wardrobe and that was something that could be done now.
"I also need to stop borrowing your clothes… although I am keeping that pink dress. I'm sorry Vinda but that is not your colour," Flora said as she looked at Vinda before casually sidestepping the witch, "I did ask for that rather," she said before moving around and looked at clothes.
"I think I have enough," Flora spoke after 20 minutes of looking around, "with the clothes that I got at home, I will have enough outfits for a few months."
"A few months?" Vinda said as she looked at the pile of clothes in Flora's arms, "That should be more than a few month's worth."
Flora laughed out loud before looking at Vinda.
"I don't share the same style as you remember," she said with a smirk before going to pay for the clothes she wanted to buy.
After discreetly sending the bags back to her bedroom, Flora decided to show Vinda the delights of Central Park. It was a fond place, full of happy memories with her sisters and that was something she wanted to refresh her mind on before she would leave again.
However before that happened Flora took Vinda to Jacob's bakery where she ordered a box of pastries for herself and Vinda to eat in the Park. Vinda looked at all the creations and wondered what they were inspired by, Of course the witch didn't know which creatures lived in Newt's Case as Flora never spoke about the Case as she knew that Grindelwald may try and take it and that was the last thing she wanted.
It wasn't too much later and the two were sat in Central Park and eating whatever pastry they wanted. Vinda didn't want to admit that the pastry was rather tasty… for a Muggle baker at least. She watched as Flora spoke about anything she wished to share before the weather began to turn chilly as the sun began to set.
Rather reluctantly, Flora led the way back to the Goldstein apartment she'd made the promise to her sisters that she would be back in time for dusk. Partly because she knew it wasn't safe and partly because she wanted to help Newt with the creatures and their evening feed. She greeted her sisters before descending into the Case and headed off to find Newt.
