Sometimes Kurt wishes he could just move out. But the rent is too expensive in New York. He doesn't hate living in the loft. He, of course, doesn't hate his best friends. If only they were a little more quiet. Not just as a couple but in general. Laughing here, screaming there and singing. Practicing for classes at NYADA. But hello?! He has to practice and study too.
It's not the first time that he searches for peace in the library. He likes the library. It's not too loud, a café is directly next door and everything he needs in one place. But he hates to take the subway 20 minutes one way. After a long study session he just wants to lay down in bed and read a good book, listening to music or watch something.
After a subway ride to the library with a pit stop to pick up some coffee the chestnut haired man enters the library and sits down at a free table. For a moment he looks around. The window on his left and book shelves on his right. The staircase behind him so he doesn't get distracted by too many people and in front of him a cozy reading corner.
If only he could just sit there. Besides one other person it's completely empty. The person is a young man. Maybe his age? Sitting on an arm chair, holding the book in his hands while his mind is in a completely different dimension. Kurt sighs and takes out his notebook and his music history book. He puts on his headphones and turns on his study playlist quietly before he opens the book and starts his study session.
Blaine flinches when his phone starts to vibrate in his pocket. He was so into his book. What time is it? "Seb?" he takes the call and hears his best friend answer in a very guilty voice "Hi Blainers". "What did you do?" the curly haired man asks immediately. "I may or may not forgot my keys at home. I wanted to make us some lunch. Can you come home and open the door?" the other man asks.
"If I run I still get the subway. I'll be there in 15 minutes" Blaine answers. He ends the call and jumps up. Quickly he leaves the building, running to the subway station once he's outside. Right before the doors close he squeezes in, sighing in relieve that he still made it.
"I swear some day you will go out naked because you forgot to put on clothes" Blaine greets his best friend who jumps up at the voice "You're my hero". "Yeah. But while you make lunch I'll be in the living room and continue reading". "I will never get your nerdy obsession with the library and books" the younger man answers while they both go in.
"You don't have to get it" Blaine answers and leans back on the couch, wanting to take his book out of his bag. "Hey did I come back with my bag?" he asks but the other man shakes his head "Why?". "Damn. I hurried so much that I forgot my bag in the library. I guess I'll go back after lunch and ask at the lost and found department" the curly haired man says and turns on the tv instead.
With a yawn Kurt closes his book again. Enough studying for now. He needs another coffee, some lunch and a break. He'll just go to the café next door and eat there. The young man opens his bag and puts his notebook and book back in but before he can stand up he spots a bag.
Wait, Kurt remembers, there was someone sitting there earlier. Kurt didn't realized that the man left but he must've forgotten his bag. Short-handed Kurt stands up and takes the bag. Maybe he can find out who it belongs to? First he finds a book. The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo. It looks like it's been read a hundred times. A bit deeper he finds a wallet. With a smile Kurt opens it and sees the ID of the owner.
His smile fades when he realizes that he must look like a thief. He should've brought the bag to lost and found immediately but now that he got the ID he can just return it himself. He needs a break anyways. Who knows when this man comes back to get it. That's why Kurt shrugs it off and looks at the ID.
The curly haired young man on the picture is definitely the one who sat here before. His name is Blaine Anderson and he's the same age as Kurt is. After seeing the address Kurt looks up which subway he has to take before he puts the wallet and book back inside. Maybe he can ask the handsome man about the book because it's on his own tbr but he didn't have the time to read it yet.
Twenty minutes later Kurt stands in front of a door. The apartment according to the address on the ID. The chestnut haired man takes a door to open. But when the door opens Kurt is surprised. In front of him stands a man who definitely doesn't have the curls. Maybe he isn't at the right address after all? Or knocked at the wrong door? "Can I help you?" the young man asks and Kurt swallows before he nods "I'm looking for a Blaine Anderson".
"Blainers here's someone who wants to talk to you" the man yells before turning back to Kurt "One moment please". It really takes just a moment only until the cute, curly haired man walks up behind his roommate "Seb I think your lunch is burning". The other man's eyes widen as he runs back into the kitchen.
Blaine can only laugh at that and Kurt can't hide his own smile. Not only does this man look even prettier than in the picture but he also has a beautiful laugh. "Hey. I saw you in the library earlier right?" Blaine asks. The chestnut haired man nods "Yeah. I'm Kurt and I thought you might be searching for this". "My bag! I wanted to go look for it after lunch. Thank you so much" Blaine thanks as he takes his bag out of the other mans hand.
Their fingers touch but Blaine immediately feels warm. This beautiful man actually came here to make sure he got his bag back. "I should thank you in some way" he says and grabs his wallet out of his bag, pleased to see that nothing to see that nothing is missing. He takes 20 bucks out of his wallet, holding it out to the other man. But Kurt shakes his head "You don't have to pay me. I'm happy to help". "But I wanted to repay you in some way" the curly haired man pouts and Kurt has to smile again.
"Are you coming straight from the library?" the curly haired man asks and Kurt nods so he asks further "You studied right?". Again Kurt could only nod. "You must be hungry then. Let me take you out for lunch as a thank you" Blaine insists. This time the other man gives in "Okay but only because I'm really hungry". With a satisfied smile Blaine takes his bag, phone and keys "See you later Seb" before closing the door.
"Are you two brothers or something?" Kurt asks on their way out. "God no. We're best friends since high school" the other man tells with a laugh. This beautiful laugh. "Just follow me. I know a cute place where we can eat lunch" Blaine then says and leads the way outside.
They aren't brothers but best friends. Does Blaine have a girlfriend? Or a boyfriend? Is he gay? Bi? Pan? Straight? Any chance he might like men? It's the only thing Kurt can think about because he feels something. He definitely wants to get to know Blaine better. They haven't really talked yet but Kurt is already head over heels.
Shortly after the two young men enter the café and find a place a waiter comes shortly after to take their order. "So. What did you study for?" the curly haired man asks, "I study at NYADA and missed an exam two months ago so now I have to retake it" the other man answers with a sigh "I couldn't concentrate at home so I like to come to the library when I want to get out. I think I have seen you around more often. Could that be?". "Yep. The library is my favorite place. It's just so magical and I'm there almost every day if my schedule allows. To study or to read and hang out" Blaine tells and Kurt can see his eyes shine.
He chuckles "Maybe we can go to the library together sometime to hang out and read. What do you study?". "I want to go into teaching and I study at NYU. The library is my own way home. Hey we could study together sometime. I mean two different subjects but it's nice to have some company while studying" the curly haired man proposes. "Yeah I'd like that" Kurt says and gives the other man his phone "Just put your number in my contacts and I text you".
While Kurt and Blaine eat lunch they talk about everything and nothing, getting to know each other more. They can hardly look away, the beautiful eyes of the other are like magnets when one smiles the other does too, when one laugh the other one has to laugh too. They talk about Kurts roommates and about Sebastian, about college and the library.
"So how did you meet your two roommates?" Blaine asks interested and the other man immediately starts telling "We met in high school and were a part of the glee club. Rachel and I were best friends since day one and when Santana came out we were there for her. I know how she felt. Rachel and my dream was to go to New York and Santana joined us". "You knew how she felt because?" Blaine asks with shining eyes. "I'm gay and came out in my second year of high school and she in her third" Kurt tells, slightly worried that him being gay might push Blaine away.
"Hey. I'm gay as well. That's actually how Sebastian and I met when I transferred to Dalton. We bonded over the fact that we're both gay and are like brothers since" the curly haired man tells and Kurt has to keep himself from screaming. They are both gay. Maybe he didn't imagine the magic between them after all.
Not long after Kurt has to go home since he still has some stuff to do before it's time for dinner. Blaine decides to go back to the library and this time not forget his bag. "It was nice getting to know you Blaine" the chestnut haired man says with a smile. "You too Kurt. Text me?" Blaine answers. The other man nods "As soon as I get home". Both smile at Each other for a second before Blaine steps forward. They hug, short but tight, and while Blaine feels the butterflies in his stomach Kurt feels like he's flying.
